After filming this iconic beast for Stance Wars I knew how unique it sounded and how awesome a POV run would be! So we mic'd up Niko's car and sent him out to capture this! Hope you enjoy that flutter as much as i do!

I first saw this ride in the Stance Wars Seattle 2022 video and I must say it's one of a sick ride. Not only does it look beautiful but that turbo spooling and blow off valve sounds are music to the ears.

the manual throttle operation with sequential is definitely sth you dont see often
If it hasn't been set up for automatic ignition cut, you have to lift when upshifting. I believe he's doing clutch for the smoothness

Is the audio being recorded from inside the cabin or out the car?
I have a video on my channel how I mic up cars check it out! But in this case one in the engine bay near intake and one at exhaust. At points you can here the go pros scratch audio I bring it sometimes so you can tell the difference between the audio I am capturing vs what the go pro is.

What exactly determines if a sequential transmission requires the use of a clutch or not? Obviously they all need them for starting in first (or at least usually), but I thought they usually didn't need one for shifting.
Sequential transmission is and "I" patter box with precise gear engagement. Unlike the H patter you will never miss shift unlike an "H" pattern especially in a matures racing or drifting. You still should use the clutch and I do. Sequential boxes can use clutch less shifting but it's something that has to be worked in to the tune of the car.
to do clutchless shifting it needs to have a switch on it to cut ignition. Usually when you tune the car you set it up so that you can do it
Edit: it's basically like a quick shifter on bikes, except bikes already have the sequential gearbox
This gearbox uses dogs, you can hear it’s whine. Therefore he just needs to let of throttle a bit and slam that gearbox.
And btw, i don’t see any parts of him slamming it, it’s not good for the gears but since they aren’t synchros they won’t break.
Actualllyy, after a bit of research it’s a bit more than just what i said.
So there’s like 3 different aspects to a shifter, firstly: Pattern. Can be Sequential or H pattern, Sequential being back and forth to change gears in a sequential fashion whilst H pattern allows for skipping gears and putting it in neutral instantly.
Next are how the gears are cut: Either straight or helical. Straight just means an easier engagement (iirc) and a stronger gear, but a louder audible sound. Whilst Helical, depending on angle, will be much quieter, and is harder to machine.
Finally, engagement: Dog rings, or synchromesh rings. Synchros are what most people are used to, great for street use as they won’t easily push into gear until the two gears rpm’s reach the same RPM. Dogs use physical divots to push them into place, so you have to lift throttle to let off load on the gears, then throw it into gear to get them to engage. They engage instantly. Only problem is that they aren’t the easiest to use, and can easily damage your gears.
