Regarding Frieren saying Himmel probably didn't know what the flower meant, we know from an earlier episode that Himmel was really knowledgeable about flowers. Love this kind of world building and consistency.

Notice that Fern's bracelet the Lotus is in full bloom, showing that love has or will blossom fully into it's full form. Frieren's ring, however, is still a simple bud and hasn't bloomed yet, showing that Himmel's love will never fully come to fruition, even if it still exists and is still eternal.
I think one of the major themes of this whole series is exactly what you point out - the gradual reveal - to Frieren, as she remembers, and the audience -of how much Himmel loved Frieren. He shows it in so many ways (like leaving statues behind for her so she will not be lonely) but she cannot understand what he is showing her and he never pushes it, understanding the chasm of time between them (notice the clock is positioned between them when he is putting the ring on her finger). Himmel and Frieren are honestly so tragic when thinking about it. Himmel clearly liked her but kinda just accepted that he wouldn't be able to do anything due to the difference in lifespan and frieren's lack of emotion in general. Oh Frieren has emotions and was clearly into Himmel. She just doesn't know how to process them. Remember that Frieren was a young girl when the Demons destroyed her village and she spend the next 50 years with Flamme in training. Flamme and Frieren lived in obscurity all their lives so as to not make a name for themselves. They needed to be unknowns so that the Demons would always underestimate them. After Flamme's death, Frieren took that notion into the extreme by living in the woods, away from civilization and barely interacting with people just for the bare necessities and learning the news. She literary has no experience with emotions, be they romantic or platonic or social norms. It’s probably just because it would be complicated. He is a human and she is an elf. I think elves do love and obviously frieren shows signs of love and affection so many times. @priestofthighs3013 Yeah. And we have to see what comes out next year. That said, this has been a banger year for anime: Hell's Paradise, Heavenly Delusion, Oshi no Ko, Vinland Saga S2, Frieren, Apothecary Diaries etc.
Pretty much the theme in this story as a whole is "not knowing what you had until you lose it." And Frieren is only now understanding what everything meant. This new journey helps her re-contextualize and understand everything that has happened to her during her previous journey with Himmel's party. She remembers everything. She just didn't understand it before. Which is why to me, this anime brings out a feeling that's kinda hard to describe. The happiness in finding out that you had something special. But also the sadness that you *had* it but it's long gone. Also, if you missed it, it was planted earlier how the guy on the carriage they were riding was a merchant of accessories. And 'accessories' is the medium of story-telling this episode. And with that detail, it's not as surprising when this traveling merchant of trinkets would have a spell to look for anything that got lost. Even the fact that the lost ring was way back in the place where the demon bird picked them up fits the theme. E.g.: She lot the ring back there. Then in her time away, she finds out what the ring means. And by the time she picks it back up again, she's sees the ring in a new light. Almost like she picked up a completely different thing now. Previously, she's always looked at the ring like she's just not sure about how she should feel about it. But at the very end here when she said "maybe," that little smile told us exactly how she feels about it now.
This episode was so damn good! It literally took 1 episode for Sein to earn his stripes after joining the party. He needed to have that moment real quick to hook people into liking and respecting him, and this episode did it for me
Himmel was the hero, not for his skills or strength.... but because he was always true, for Frieren the quest was just a memory, for him... it was his whole life this anime is so well rated because anyone can relate to the story, it reminds us to live here and now, dont waste time

2:12 It goes deeper than this. We already saw Stark never understood how other people celebrate birthdays. He only ever got his favorite bigass hamburg steak, and didn't understand the significance til Fern was stressed over HIS birthday. Even so... he lived for so many nears never celebrating it in his most formative years, so it doesn't really matter to him at all, just his friends. I grew up Jehovah's Witness... my first and last Halloween was at age 2, I never had a birthday party, and basically never went to anyone else's until earlier this month... and I'm 41. I stood out in the hall during the pledge of allegiance in school (no loss there), and didn't get a christmas present until about 4 years ago. Thanks to all that, i can't even remember my immediate family's birthdays, and have just felt alien during every holiday but St. Patty's for my whole life. That's the problem. Stark's young enough to grow that appreciation, but it's rough having no emotional point of reference to celebrations everyone else calls special, unless it's more a general party with little to no meaning or tradition behind it.
Considering that elves are basically immortal and have little interest in procreation, I would imagine that elves probably take a hundred years or more of personal interaction before they develop romantic feelings for another elf. Elves just live on a completely different time scale from humans.
I'm pretty sure the quick sand spell was just her trolling. You could easily just use the levitation spell Finding a lost item is actually pretty general
well frieren said, that elves don't have feelings like affection or desire to have children. So I think she'll probably could never show these feelings to Himmel, but just recognise him as a good friend.

That's the problem. Stark's young enough to grow that appreciation, but it's rough having no emotional point of reference to celebrations everyone else calls special, unless it's more a general party with little to no meaning or tradition behind it.
This episode again highlights the "time", time to find the right present, time to fix something broken and time to search for something you lost.
Roshi: Damn, carriage ain't goin nowhere like this...
Bojack: 👀
The extra few seconds at the end of the video is much appreciated
Considering that elves are basically immortal and have little interest in procreation, I would imagine that elves probably take a hundred years or more of personal interaction before they develop romantic feelings for another elf. Elves just live on a completely different time scale from humans.
My kingdom for a Blue Eye Samurai reaction T-T
It just got renewed for season 2!!
NAH THAT FUCKING BEAR ANIMATION CLIP KILLED TF OUTTA ME
The horse was running for his life!!
Can't blame the horse
Frieren Ep 14 is my everything and this reaction gave everything 😭💕
Why are those spells always so specific?
- Spell to get someone out of the Quicksand...
- Spell to find a lost item...
Because someone made them to be specific. They don't occur naturally.
it's already been established from the very beginning there a spells for specific things and how frieren likes collecting them.
I'm pretty sure the quick sand spell was just her trolling. You could easily just use the levitation spell
Finding a lost item is actually pretty general
i love the ending guys good job editor
If you ever driving an Uber with Roshi as a passenger... pray your car doesn't brake down!!! 😂🤣😂🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
8:28 Nah this part killed me 😭 Heiter just fell 😂😭
8:53 Bird-er
謝謝!
Its cool to see Fern and Stark bonding naturally, with no anime BS to speedrun a possible romance
poor HIMel his love so pure and gentle 😅
Please add the "YOUR NOT MY DAD🗣" from Roshi as the new line for the show😂😂
I fucking died at the commentary about the carriage 😂 especially Roshi about the horse logic 😂😂 ❤ love it
well frieren said, that elves don't have feelings like affection or desire to have children. So I think she'll probably could never show these feelings to Himmel, but just recognise him as a good friend.
If you re-watch episode 1 after Himmel is buried, Frieren is holding on that same ring (at around 16 min in, you're welcome)
I'm dying at Roshi killing the horse lol
da fuc* man!
Flat tire, guess we push the car off a cliff lol
After reading ahead in the manga all imma say is Himmel DEFINITELY had feelings
This is the same ring you see her looking at right after Himmels death as well. She truly does cherish it.
Fun fact: when Himmel was putting the ring on frieren a clock was in the middle of them showing that the only thing that stands between them this time it’s sad but true😢
Also, I got appreciate the animators for putting that there they cooked ❤
Saw this on another channel
Notice that Fern's bracelet the Lotus is in full bloom, showing that love has or will blossom fully into it's full form. Frieren's ring, however, is still a simple bud and hasn't bloomed yet, showing that Himmel's love will never fully come to fruition, even if it still exists and is still eternal.
"A Spell to rewind time" how is he so good at predicting shit? Its unreal😂😂
Yo, that's why I'm watching these reactions. You get the mellow, chill vibes during the episode, then come here and get the belly laughs
Bro was an accessory merchant, makes sense he would have a spell to find lost ones
14:08 😳Yeah that would be crazy...
i wish they reacted to Pluto but since they are reacting to Frieren im still super happy 😭💕💞💓
Frieren headpatting is like conforting a kid which is what every adult are. They are just pretending to be adult but are kid inside
Man it's going to take a while until we catch up to the manga, but will be wroth it when we get to that one moment. Manga readers, you know what I'm talking about.
Roshi in some demon time bro? Just shoot the horse cause the carriage is destroyed?😂😭
Frieren is the patron saint of dudes that realize the cute cashier was flirting with them 5 years after the fact
Not Roshi out here Vox Machina’ing the horses 😭
Another Episode of Himmel being HIM
I love how it kept rolling after the outro.
lmao sheera really went "this is a nice journey, be a real shame if something happened" 🤣
How convenient? That guy is an accessory merchant, remember?
Fern tryna become a fellow stark family fiction character herself 🤣
