Steve Walsh - lead vocals/ keyboards & percussion, Robby Steinhardt (big hair) -lead vocals/ violin , Phil Ehart - drums , Dave Hope -bass , Rick Williams -guitar and Kerry Livgren (blond hair) guitar/ keys. A talented band.

Kansas was a great band from the 70's. Their musical style is a fusion of hard rock, southern rock & progressive rock. "Carry On Wayward Son" & "Dust In The Wind" are their 2 biggest hits. But they had other good songs such as "Point Of Know Return", "Hold On", "People Of The South Wind", "Play The Game Tonight", "Fight Fire With Fire", "All I Wanted" etc.

Back in the day when this was hot for some reason Kansas NEVER played in Nebraska. I lived there so a buddy and I had to go to Red Rocks Colorado(God's Cathedral). Very well worth the trip and a nice ride on a couple of Harleys with our girls. 300 miles each way with roughly $1 a gallon for gas on bikes. Hell yeah.😎😎
I've seen them since then with the new band members in Reno (Harrah's former outdoor venue) Still killin' it.
    I still have this LP./Album.
"Point of Know Return" and "Dust in the Wind" are two other awesome songs from that era 45 years ago.
They're still played on classic rock radio.
    "Surely Heaven waits for you"😇😇😇😇😇😇😇
The best thing about watching these reviews is how people react when it keeps getting better and better.🤩🤩🤩🤩

Kerry Livgren the Guitar player wrote most of the bands best songs. Carry On and Dust in the wind for example. He left the band to play Christian Rock and his band AD was amazing check out "We are the Men". He did an album called Seeds of Change with Ronnie James Dio as a guest singer on a song called Mask of the Great Deceiver.

Great reaction and thanks for sharing. The big Red Haired singer is Robbie Steinhardt (RIP) and he sang lead on some of the songs but he was the violinist on most songs and always sang harmonies with the other lead singer and organ player and composer Steve Walsh who also played bongo drums on this song. Kansas has tons of amazing music. Dust in the Wind will allow you to see Robbie play the violin and is a much softer song. 'The Wall'' is another great song. 'What's on my Mind' 'Curtain of Iron' 'Hold On' 'Point of Know Return' these are all amazing songs. 'Closet Chronicles' 'Lightnings Hand' so many, so many great songs. Enjoy watching. This song was also the unofficial theme song for the TV show 'Supernatural' and Kansas played this song for the cast at Comic Con in San Diego. Chris

Several hits in early rock had medieval themes, most likely coming from folk and classical influences. This is one of them. Great song!

Great reaction as always, ladies. This came out when I was in junior high and it was such a new sound at the time, and there were so many great bands just dominating the charts and the airwaves, and Kansas was one of them.
It's interesting because they were some what older than me, but they lived or most of them rather came from about 30 minutes away from where my hometown is. In fact, by the time I got to college, when I was a freshman, my roommate was from Topeka Kansas, because he was already 3 years older than me and he was in the music scene there, and had some of their hand-me-down band equipment incorporated into his massive audiophile stereo system. We pretty much won all of the stereo wars, lol.
Robby steinhardt is the name of the guy with the huge hair and beard, and here you see him doing backing vocals and tambourine, but he is also capable of doing lead vocals, really they have multiple lead vocalists in the band and they're all great at backing vocals, but he was a signature part of the Kansas sound with his violin.
His song from a slightly Later album which also became a huge hit, and really they had tons of hits, is called Dust in the Wind and I'd be surprised if you have not heard it somewhere. But that is Robbie's song and he does play a lot of violin on it and sings it. And it's beautiful and haunting and humble.
Another huge hit of theirs is called Point of No Return, from their iconic album Point of Know Return, and it also tells a story, just like this song, and it's really amazing.
    Always fun watching you guys.❤

Kansas were closing recording sessions of their album Leftoverture, when Kerry Livgren (lead guitarist) introduced this idea of his to the band...and it became this song, which was their first breakthrough hit and their career skyrocketed immediately. Great song! Greetings from Finland!

They were ready to pack up and leave - final day in the studio and not expecting any more recording - when Livgren walked in and said he had one more song he wrote the night before that they should consider. The were blown away, laid it down that day, and history was made. Their Record Company president (Don Kirshner) couldn't believe what he was hearing when he heard it. All the money he provided them was finally paying off.
So this was the hit that almost wasn't.

But the second time was in a much smaller venue. The first one was like 20,000 seat arena. This time it was maybe 1500- 2000. They killed! Some groups are just better in small, inclusive venues.

But give props to the guitarist with the white Tux...Sharrrp looking dude--Sportin' the afro hair and switched from acoustic to electric in a 4-count! Imagine at some remote dive in Deleware an anouncer gets on stage: ".... only three of you here, and I can see you all now, will know of this band, but with no further ado....DOVER. Let's hit it", ha.

Oddly enough, I met Steve Walsh (the original lead singer) back in 1984 or ‘85 when I was about 10 or 11years old. Lived my whole life in Fayetteville or Peachtree City GA. At the time he was (still is as far as I know) living in Peachtree City. The younger of my two older sisters had a best friend there and her family were neighbors. She invited us to visit.
I knew of Kansas. Even though the height of their success was the mid 70s with this song and “Dust in the Wind”, I was familiar.
At that time I imagined it was ‘weird’ that someone like that would be living just a few miles away in GA. Heheh.
He was incredibly cordial and showed us around the house but mostly his home studio. I was a bit star-struck but not really.
I only became so when I later became a huge fan of the band as a teen when I really got into classic rock. Haha!
I met his son, Blu, in the early’00s at a pool hall in Fayetteville when his friend ‘outed’ who’s son he was. He seemed a lil embarrassed. Heheh. I told him how’d I’d met his dad as a kid. He was amused.
(Of course, as a kid, I was unaware Walsh was only recently no longer in the band.)
Big mama! You’re absolutely right! Those talented musicians always make everything look easy!
I say that as someone who’s played bass (and does computer-based music for a couple of decades), since I was 15 in 1989.
Also, lil Momma (I’m just makin up names here lol)…let that gal have some huge, furious 1970’s hair! 😂
And….dont let hair be your guide! I had long hair all the ladies adored in high school. Now it’s mostly gone and the rest is closely shaved….thankfully there are ladies that dig that too! Haha!
Ooo! Yes! Dr. Pepper! Yes! She’s makin a lotta sense! Heh
    Wow. Rambling. Thank you, ladies!
    Ya’ll all stay lovely!
Love and light to you and yours! ❤🙂

A classic! If you want something really 'epic' by them (like "Xanadu" by Rush--something that takes you on a journey and has amazing musicianship) I'd recommend "Journey from Mariabronn" (which is based on a novel, "Narcissus and Goldmund"--the song actually made me go back and re-read the novel, which I hadn't read in decades :D) or "Song for America" (which has a good theme about ecology/conservation). If you want something that just rocks out in a breathtaking Southern rock style, I'd go with "Down the Road" (which features Robby singing lead). There's also a beautiful 'anthem ballad' song called "All the World" which features both Robby and Steve sharing lead vocals.

A couple of reaction suggestions. Triumph (band) , Lay it on the Line from the 1983 US Festival . Another , REO Speedwagon, Roll With the Changes from the Midnight Special .
