I’m shivering watching the safety standards in that factory. Several moments in the process of building a dumbbell can cost you an arm if you’re not paying attention.
Yeah, and it makes so much more sense when you think about it. From a manufacturer's standpoint, it's both cheaper and easier to have circular billets for each end of the dumbbell then cast a hexagonal rubber coating on top of it.
@@MushookieMan To cast it all at once, you'd need a furnace to melt iron ore and then cast it. The energy required for that would make the process less economically viable. Equipment cost would be significantly higher as well. Plus, you'd have to get the casting perfect every time-any defects or unevenness would mean starting over. If you scaled this up, say to 100 units per melt, you'd likely encounter defects statistically. With this method, the steel is already melted and shaped, so it only requires a few steps to assemble, making it more efficient overall.
Yes maybe we'll invent a machine that partially cancels gravity to make the dumbbells lighter. Then the person doing the workout can use the same anti-gravity machine and say to his friends "Look guys! I'm doing 50 reps dumbbell press with 120 lb dumbbells and not breaking a sweat!"
