ESPECIALLY if they know the latter since the Emperor having another son wouldn't matter if that information became public.
I think that the main disagreement between Jinshi and the Emperor is that Jinshi wants to fully commit to the lie. He believes that he can’t realistically be legitimated as the heir, because it is difficult to explain why they lied for 18 years about him being the Emperor’s brother, and some factions within the empire will dismiss the new story and assume that they are lying now to screw over the eventual rightful successor.

I actually think that Jinshi is Emperor and Ah-Duos son. The "emperor's brother" was actually the child that died, but Jinshi and that baby were swapped after their birth, although I am not sure if Ah-Duo and/or the Emperor know of that fact.

you have to understand that the scene on the stairs has a certain weight for the role that Jinshi has in the Court. an identity that he hides. Maomao during the time spent close to Jinshi has understood that he is not a simple eunuch, but every time she discovers new information about him, she prefers to ignore it because she thinks that knowing the truth could create problems for her. but you might already guess who Jinshi really is.
Agreeee, the music is incredibly well directed in this series. (and Jinshi DOES look great 😌) like you discussed, Lakan there was prolly shocked for multiple reasons (could be any, could be all): - that Maomao ended up in that severe of a state (maybe he sussed out something bad was gonna happen just not exactly what) - that Jinshi came out with Maomao (maybe he figured Jinshi was high up in the rank but not the position exactly) - lastly, that someone as high up as Jinshi willingly carried her out himself in front of all those people considering his status P.S. love how they hinted Jinshi participating in a ceremony in earlier episodes (i.e. him going vegetarian for a while)
I think it's def the first 1. as I believe Lakan knows Jinshi is royalty as he made a statement that only one would be able to oppose Jinshi, that one person being above Jinshi would be the empereror. 3. is a possibility but I really think it's just Lakan carrying for his daughter and def got angry she was hit, but was prob shocked at the state she ended up being.
Lankan had implied earlier that he knew Jinshi’s position. I guess since it was vague, maybe he actually had the wrong idea and Jinshi just assumed he knew?

There actually is a meaning to it. Its actually frowned upon for nobles to run, its considered disgraceful and a peasant thing. Thats why Maomao was scolded for it earlier on in the series.
Suddenly being pushed like that to the wall, even though he wasn't injured, that may impact him somehow maybe. Also yeah, ceremonial clothes may be heavy & carrying Mao Mao, maybe just to make sure he won't fall and make things worse. He did not know how bad her injury that time (but seeing her face and foot that time, it looked really bad indeed), it's like carrying her carefully not to injure her more maybe. Also, he could still be in shock like what just happened, why Mao Mao was there, etc
Jinshi has some military training as he could sword fight, and talked about the camps, so he likely has some experience with wounds. That leg wound was not bleeding enough to be immediately fatal and would likely stop once the dress became saturated and started to adhere to the skin and clotting began. Jostling someone with a severe head wound by running with them could actually kill them. Today, EMT's wouldn't move her at all until they stabilized her spine regardless of that leg. They would apply pressure but Jinshi is alone with everyone being too scared to do anything given what nearly happened to a royal. He's also got to maintain his dignity, it can be life and death in Imperial China. He's honoring her by carrying her, but being frantic and yelling about her might actually get her killed as people could use her to get to him. It's not out of the question for him to walk slowly regardless of the manga panels. I think the anime just really wanted to hammer home how subservient EVERYONE was to him.
Lakan def cares for his daughter and he antagonizes Jinshi because he's the dad that's assessing his daughter's boyfriend. Obviously they aren't together yet, but Lakan def knows Jinshi is royalty and Jinshi has interest in Lakan's daughter. Lakan def is intelligent but as you've seen, he's pretty laid back and rather lets other people do the work. He has a general idea of what is going on but doesn't prone further unless it directly intrigues him or is his responsibility. He knew something was up with sabotaging the royal proceedings and was there waiting for his daughter to solve it most likely. Lakan himself seemed shocked more on his daughter being hurt is my bet.

So about Jinshi not hurrying while carrying an injured Maomao, its considered rude for those of the upperclass to be in a hurry and to run. Its a public perception thing. Maomao was even scolded for being in a hurry earlier on in the series and is why everyone stares at her in scenes when she is running.
Plus, he obviously has military training (we've seen him sword fight and he talked about the camps) so he's probably got some experience with wounds. The head wound was the most dangerous (she really shouldn't have been moved - we know now) but I'm sure be can tell that the leg wound isn't serious enough to be fatal (in fact her dress will probably stop the bleeding in a few minutes as the blood clots) It will need to be cleaned and stitched for healing but she's not likely to die.
Previous cases in previous episodes: The warehouse case (explosion, theft), excessive salt case (former warehouse manager - Master Kounen), rare food/seaweed/food poisoning case (current warehouse manager), metalworker case - it seems like random cases but those are connected in this episode. If case like Master Kounen happened like a year ago, this is like a long-term plan to kill someone...shows how important that someone is.
If Maomao is Lakan's daughter... that means she is potentially noble herself. All that would be needed would be for Lakan to publically acknowledge Maomao as his daughter, and she would immediately be elevated in rank to the same social class that the main consorts are. And judging from what is said about Lakan's family being among the most powerful in the kingdom, that also means Maomao would be catapulted into the ranks from which high-ranking noble families choose their marriage partners. Like say, the Emperor's family. HOWEVER... I suspect the reason Lakan hasn't done that is because he doesn't want her to become just another pawn for his family to cement alliances with. I also suspect Maomao understands this and wants to avoid that fate as much as possible, which helps explain some of her reluctance towards her father. But its something to watch out for as the story continues. Maomao and Jinshi appear to be on a long term path towards one another, and sooner or later, Maomao won't be able to avoid some rather substantial promotions in rank.

Legitimacy can be bestowed retroactively, and in any case, there is plenty of precedent in Chinese history for bastards becoming legitimate simply by being acknowledged by the father. The LNs make it clear that this is an option for Lakan in regards to his daughter, tho - at least up to the point I've read - he has not yet said anything about why he hasn't done so. It'll probably be a plot point somewhere down the line.

They will also obviously not have any ranking guards guarding an eunuch's ceremony (if any at all). Eunuchs are considered "Yin" in energies, much like women are considered the same, so they do not perform most ceremonies or rituals (there are some which are performed by high ranking consorts or the empress though). Here we see Jinshi wearing a robe with dragon imagery, which is often used for high ranking officials (which does not include eunuchs no matter their position in the court). Depending on the dynasty, it can also be exclusive only to those in the Royal Family. A very interesting detail if you look at the design of the dragon, it has 5 claws which we consider a "true dragon". Officials are not allowed to wear that particular design, they are only allowed to wear imagery of dragons with 4 claws. So for those people who understands the significance of these, it pretty much cements that he has never been an eunuch and he is actually widely recognized part of the royal family, otherwise he wouldn't be wearing those robes and be the head of the ceremony. And this is done without saying anything at all, pretty masterful story telling.
That was not a ceremony for eunuch. Only a royalty performs ceremonies, like praying to the gods etc. All the small accidents seem to have been made to look like accidents with the intention to harm the royalty that will be performing the ceremony.

That's the position he got swapped into (and the actual brother died under Ah-Duo's care), and that's why he's never present at court affairs, because it's Jinshi off doing whatever Jinshi does. Man season 2 is such a banger. Granted it couldn't have become so without all that setup from season 1. I love this show. But certainly not as much as Jinshi loves MaoMao. That boy loves her so freaking much.

Jinshi is the emperors brother. Only reason I'm "spoiling' this is because I'm pretty sure ,as the audience, you're supposed to get that by this point in the story. Maomao is still in denial about it and hasn't put it together yet. It's a little confusing because Maomao is normally so observant and gets things fast, but she has a blind spot for Jinshi. Jinshi is the child of Ah-Duo and the previous emperor, but was passed off as the Empress dowagers baby in the swap. So in reality Jinshi is a half-brother to the current emperor, but is essentially a full brother because of the baby swap.

Nobody is supposed to know JinShi is of noble birth. Only a certain few. Him walking out like that is like revealing it to the world

The Emperor's sick brother... isn't that Jinshi? That's the position he got swapped into (and the actual brother died under Ah-Duo's care), and that's why he's never present at court affairs, because it's Jinshi off doing whatever Jinshi does.

L' ultima scena jinshi porta in braccio Maomao in segno di rispetto, un membro della famiglia reale salvato da una serva. E' un gesto simbolico che fa uscire allo scoperto jinshi ( non è il suo vero nome)

Man season 2 is such a banger. Granted it couldn't have become so without all that setup from season 1. I love this show. But certainly not as much as Jinshi loves MaoMao. That boy loves her so freaking much.

Hmm... A bit disappointing. You both weren't cooking.... at all. I'm not understanding how you missed all the clues that were strewn around when Maomao was researching the issue with the ceremonials. Maybe I was expecting too much, but... At some episodes, you guys are really quick-witted and grasp things like it's nothing, but now you were both... very slow on the uptake.
Breath of fresh air honestly. Doesn't mean they're slow, it's just a good anime with a lot of subtle clues not everyone will catch until it's revealed.

Jinshi is the emperors brother. Only reason I'm "spoiling' this is because I'm pretty sure ,as the audience, you're supposed to get that by this point in the story. Maomao is still in denial about it and hasn't put it together yet. It's a little confusing because Maomao is normally so observant and gets things fast, but she has a blind spot for Jinshi. Jinshi is the child of Ah-Duo and the previous emperor, but was passed off as the Empress dowagers baby in the swap. So in reality Jinshi is a half-brother to the current emperor, but is essentially a full brother because of the baby swap.
