So now that the Suirei reveal is here...did you guys notice that throughout the show they kept showing us Suirei's side profile/her looking behind? 👀 the same angles her male persona was shown in the alcohol poisoning and seaweed episodes
Have not read anything,, so this is entirely a thought game of what if... OK so some hypothetical stuff here. The emperor does not have an heir, nor an empress. The concubine to give him a son will likely be promoted to empress, and that will in turn boost the standing of her family and their business. So there is no clear succession of the throne, but what if there was a less concrete one. Like let's for argument sake say jinshi was either the emperors younger brother, or illegitimate son from before he took the throne. The palace could have used the baby death to do a swap, then lie about jinshi age so the general public/most officials would never connect a "24 year old jinshi" with the baby born in the palace 19 years ago. This would give the emperor's bloodline a secret heir to protect their connection to power, while keeping jinshi away from assassinations. In the tea party episode, an official said the emperor's younger brother was too sick to leave his room so has never been seen at ceremonies or court. Because if nobles wanted to replace the emperor, you first have to remove all heirs, then you can have a coup to replace emperor. And a "weakling sickly brother" would treated as a minor part of a coup plot to replace the emperor.
When they were swapped, both babies were alive. The baby under Ah Duo/Feng Ming care died later. We still don't know why they were swapped. The stated reason was "An Emperor's son receive better care than an Emperor's grandson" (meaning the son get better doctors and attention). Although in my mind a grandson from the first son should rank higher than a second son in the succession queue.
@@hadihariman9704til the guy actually becomes Emperor not really. Any son is the direct bloodline of the Emperor, every grandson is a kid that may or may not be the next heir so while technically higher in succession, def not higher in terms of importance and care.
The fact that Jinshi's age is the same around Maomao's just gives another reason that he is the emperor's son, in fact, Jinshi can be the second in line of the succession but he doesn't want that. When we think that emperor's is in his mid 30 and Jinshi is still a teenager, this is just add the basis of that reason. With the addition of "Ah Duo is actually Jinshi's mother" speculation, this is really something for the political side of this story, because for now, he is considered the emperor's brother.
The one thing bad about the 2nd cour OP is that it spills a lot of the 2nd cour episodes with the various scenes shown during the intro: Jinshi and Maomao's jaunt around town, Suirei waking up in the coffin, Jinshi performing the ceremony ritual, and even some other upcoming scenes. It can ruin the surprise for the viewer by seeing scenes beforehand.
I don't know if Loulan's people are involved, but she definitely wasn't the one sneaking around. That was Suirei It seems like her dressing up is confusing the Emperor and he struggles to recognize her. Since her ladies in waiting all look like her, maybe they're the ones sleeping with the Emperor and she doesn't want to get pregnant herself for whatever reason.
For some reason when we got to that part again, I started to wonder if the Emperor could be related to a person with face blindness and that's why he can't "recognize" LouLan when she dresses differently. I don't actually think that's the case, but oh the drama it would cause. Also, I don't think the Emperor is sleeping with her at all, just visiting her.
@@kflowers8276Well usually when they say 'visiting' in this context, the anime means sleeping. Which is why he doesn't 'visit' Lishu. I think he's sleeping with the ladies in waiting that are pretending to be her
@@kflowers8276She also uses a lot of make-up and might alter her appearance with that. Maomao said something about being unable to tell how her face really looks like because of that, I think. This would help with switching places with her ladies in waiting.

16:55 Finally. Carlie is on the right track there, at the end. Now... transport the same issue to the new concubine. Or all concubines, for that matter. Jinsi is a potential threat to ALL of them, because he's the actual first heir to the emperor, NOT any of the potential sons of any of the concubines the emperor has now. The only issue for the moment is, that he's widely considered to be the son of the previous emperor, and thus the brother of the emperor, not his son. As long as this remains, and he's officially the brother, he can't be the heir. But of course, the Emperor knows he is his son, and it's pretty clear some others know this as well. And for those, there is always a possibility that Jinsi will be recognized as his son (by the emperor), and therefor displace any later sons of any of the concubines (and notably the new one, and her father), have. It means Jinsi is and remains a threat to anyone hoping to get in line for the imperial seat for her son or his grandson. It's not that difficult to comprehend.
@@fluffytigers What? What are you talking about? It's all derived from the episodes that we've already watched, there is nothing in it form future ones. Carlie herself made already the basic connection, she just didn't project it on the new concubine and her father.

I suspect Loulan's dad just wants to maneuver her into becoming empress. That way the heir would be a member of his family. Noble clans controlling the throne through marriage and offspring is just court intrigue 101, so that's my main guess. Because right now she's not even top 2 consorts. Which would then mean, protecc Gyokuyo and Lihua
I'm surprised everytime how Lishu is still alive with her maids, who act very careless. With her death, the maids will have to go, too. She is an easier target with her allergies and lax security.
@@Ash_Wen-liyep, as long as she’s alive is one less spot to a powerful family to sneak a daughter that is actually old enough to sleep with the Emperor
I know this is pre recorded but I hope this might help anyway. Empress Dowager means "the Widow Empress", a title equal of Mother Queen. The Empress Dowager is the most powerful position in the rare place, even more powerful than The Empress. It is the royal title the previous Emperor's wife take after their husband's passing, so when The Emperor marry, his wife will be called The Empress, but after he die she will be called Empress Dowager. and they are talking about the (Previous) Emperors Dowager not the (Current) Empress Dowager, So not his mother but his grandmother.
I don't know why, but I suspected Jinshi's maid of being Suiren's mother at some point and it all being a conspiracy. Then again Lady Gyokuyou seems suspicious to me because she has a bit of a different background compared to the other concubines as far as I remember.
@hadihariman9704 I just realized I mixed up their names even in my comment. Lol Their names are so similar my mind went to family relation. Not to mention, Suiren said she had a daughter at some point.
