If someone didn't tear up from this, I would be somewhat shocked!

I only played the remastered edition of this game, and I haven't even finished it. But, this song elicited a reaction from me that no other video game has made me elicit... True sadness... Nothing can compare to this song and the loss of Kharak. A true loss... I will never forget this song or the game it came from.
May the souls of our brethren be laid to rest as we move forward in search our new home; our homeworld.

"Agnus Dei" is one of the songs that when I hear it, I still feel the heartstrings tug at the first strategy game I ever played that actually made teenage me *angry* at the enemy. I felt loss. Amazing game. I want the sheet music.
    Also, the Latin translates to:
Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.
Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.
Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, grant us peace.
    (Damn appropriate to the theme).

Well hello there fellow System Shock lover...
I first heard Agnus Dei in the game, but I'd known Adagio for Strings before...it's interesting how it's been adapted - played on organ it sounds so different. It, like Toccata and Fugue in D Minor is among my favorites - great played on the Organ, great played with an orchestra arranged by Stokowski...two VERY different peices despite being the same.

Another interesting fact here 2 years later. Another interesting fact here 3 years later, these words are spoken during catholic mass every day in English and Latin. Growing up, we sung the words in Latin every day during mass.

I wouldn't say the game was remembered only for this song. But I can say this, you never, never forget this song. I hadn't played this game for almost 10 years when my brother told me to look up adagio for strings. I remembered exactly where I heard this haunting melody.

Tears of Karan is based on a song that was inspired by the cruxifiction of Jesus of Nazareth.

@ahall9839 it's very mournful. It speaks of the death of christ and begs for him to have mercy on humanity. The words are spoken during catholic mass every service as a mournful chant to beg God for forgiveness. Lmao. Part of the words say have mercy on us. It's nowhere near happy.
