I am still at a loss as to how the AT-AT gets in and out of a star destroyers, i would also like to see how the star fighters dock or lock onto the carriers, again in SW the tie fighter seems to have 1000 ways of attaching to the roof of the hangar and each movie does it slightly different
There is this dropship carrier thing that looks like an Imperial MTT that carried the Hoth landing party to the surface. Only exists in Legends as far as I know and it would dock into the wall at the rear of an ISD's big hanger.
Very very big shuttles akin to a Union class dropships in Battle Tech. Tie Fighters via drop cranes ala Star Furies in Babylon five, which is why they are seen to just drop down in Return of the Jedi. You may want to reconsider the name of this particular world. There is a copyrighted hard science fiction setting called The Orion's Arm Project, owned by a group called Orion's Arm Universe Project Incorporated. The similarity in names would cause considerable confusion, given that the premises of the settings differ so fundamentally.
You can taste the Dawn of Victory in this one. I have always enjoyed the wiki and that delicious original map of the Orion Arm, so I’m happy to see DoV influencing this proposal! Definitely getting my vote.
Such a missed opportunity that the sins of a solar empire mod never saw the light of day. I ran a Dawn of victory campaign using the palladium RPG books and the party had a blast.
I like this idea, especially it’s focus on geopolitics, and seeing what you do with evaluating other universes I’d really love to see your genuine take on varying ideologies
While there's nothing wrong with trudging on well trodden paths, the lack of concrete factions and power dynamics due to the its nature as a concept showcase made this setting feel flat compared to the previous ones. Though as a Filipino, I wanna see how the Japanese and the Americans will explain what the hell happened down here to summon a literal eldritch nightmare. Also, theorising the post-post-post-modern iterations of world ideologies is always fun. The exercise usually reveals a lot about the author and their worldview so wanna see your take hehe. Cheers!
Umm, I thought this was about the Orion's Arm Universe Project. If this setting wins, you should come up with a new name to distinguish the setting from the already existing Orion's Arm.
I am surprised that someone else here knows Orion's Arm. Without a doubt the best made hard science fiction universe in existence today, if it wasn't so abandoned and the lore of the empires and systems/planets were developed more, it could easily be the best fiction universe in history.
@@Godofredo12024It’s definitely not abandoned, there still is a dedicated growing community that still update and adds new entries of lore into the Encyclopedia Galactica. However I will say outside of that, there’s not much expand into other medias. But that doesn’t stop anybody from attempting though since it’s a collaborative project for anybody that is welcome to contribute.
@@SeranCOG I know. But when you see the Wiki you see a lot of various planets, systems, archailects, religions and more which are given to understand that they are important but then they are simply 2 lines of explanation which are like "they were something important 2 thousand years ago although it is believed that they were born before the Technocalypse" or something similar to that but no more. If it were better known, with better artists, a better union of the lore (in my opinion) and more mini-stories, it would be the best fictional universe ever made.
@@Godofredo12024well they are currently working on cleaning up the lore and the wiki in recently years. So far they have been doing a great job that the wiki and their main page isn’t so cluttered/outdated. They also have been updating many of the low quality cgi art with better art pieces from fans and commissions alike. And they have edited out and cleared up many inconsistencies between entries in the wiki. You should definitely take a look if haven’t visited their project’s website in a while. they have done a lot renovating and it so much better quality than years ago
@@Godofredo12024You’re welcome to contribute! I’m currently working on a project on discord to add multiple major star systems, cultures, and clades to the setting! The reason work is so slow is because it’s volunteer work, and most of the mod team is in their 30’s, 40’s, or even 50’s, and have careers and personal lives that take up most of their time.
I was curious to see how this final candidate would go and indeed having the point of divergences be set back a few decades like here is probably a reasonable choice for a multipolar non-Earthcentric interstellar Humanity. I only know of "Dawn of Victory" from a few google images and wiki links, but a modernized version would be fascinating to see. All 3 of these candidates have been great to watch & I'd enjoy any of them. I look forward to seeing the winner.
Don't think anything can really top the story of the GTU tho but I guess your divergence can't always be some alien scum probably why humanity is more fractured here no great unifying enemy like the GTU just an unexplained anomaly
I remember there was a Sins of a Solar Empire's mod called Dawn of Victory. Sadly it never complete. Same 3 factions - Democratic nation(I forgot it's name), Communist & Axis.
OK, before I even start watching, I feel the need to mention there is a sci-fi setting called Orion's Arm. Not sure if that's too close or anything, but might be worth noting.
@@anothermilkshake Issue is more of confusion, I'd say. Having two settings with similar premises with similar names could get weird. Also, pretty sure this video used the word Sphere to describe the territory. OA uses "Terragen Sphere".
@@The_Frustrated_Optimistnever the less that Orion's Arm is an already grounded classic so anyone going off their direction is immediately vaporized in obscurity.
This world is probably most likely to win, so I’m glad that it seems good, but I hope one of the others win, just cause I like the ways things can branch more wildly in them.
I really like this one, but after the Stellaris campaign stories, it would feel too much like doubling down on the success of GTU. Post-apocalypse or fantasy would be a breath of fresh air for Templin.
I like this setting, and also feel like there's a touch of Muv Luv in the "fall of Earth" prologue (especially Alternative V/Operation Babylon with the post-evacuation glassing of Earth), just swap the BETA for the Scinfaxi. The recurring problem with this sort of interstellar setting is that you turn every world into the sort of single-biome, single-government, or single-city planet that plagues the genre, when logically every settled planet would have, well, a whole planet's worth of content. On one hand, you can zoom in and out or move all over the place to cover whatever your story needs, but you could do very similar on the scale of a single planet, just trade planets for countries, with major corpos either at the country level or slightly below. If anything, I'd be most interested in the middle setting here, at the front edge of the colonization effort. Earth could be the place for "normal" stories, colony convoys for some of that BSG drama, and the fledgling colonies themselves for the real pioneering drama and governments that are cooperating on their face while trying to secure an edge at every turn.
@@argosime I'm just saying if they're going to worldbuild to demonstrate how to worldbuild, I'd rather they do something new, not something very similar to something that already exists.
@@SignificantNumberOfBeavers Lol both of the other settings are generic too. People keep acting like Tyrell is somehow unique as if a magical environment being taken over by tech isn't a trope by now, and taangali is just another post-apocalypse setting
They are all fascinating in there own ways. But I think there is something special about the second low fantasy world. I always love a good humanity against a higher power story and doing it just as things like guns and steam engines are being discovered is so cool. Also a big fan of the classic elf dwarf orc and human dynamic.
I would recommend out of respect for the existing Orion's Arm Universe Project that you may want to rename this setting so it doesn't steal the thunder of that one. If it wins! I personally will be voting for Tyrrell. WW1 meets LOTR and Warhammer is my zone right now!
Ah, Dawn of Victory, my beloved. Glad you’re still developing this, Swiss. You influenced me in terms of what modding could be and how important strong writing was for a creative project. I admit, I struggle to live up to your example- but I do still try.
Well, I will be the first to admit that some of the background I wrote for the UK IN SPAACE on the DoV wiki was probably not the best.... but I had a lot of fun doing it and it was good practice! :D I'm really looking forward to seeing what the Templin Institute can do with the Orion Arm... so it gets my enthusiastic vote!
Please make sure to incorporate gigantic economy’s into his project, the scale of intergalactic production is almost always underwhelming and when it is done right it is a really awesome aspect, “solstice 5” is a short film that I think captured the incomprehensible scale of a galactic economy perfectly
And how I am to make a decision? Both previous option were very good in they own way. Really Orion arm look slightly like super-chaotic mass effect, with many competing factions and threat of anihilation looming on the horizon. World of Tyrell could be actuall high-quality take on quite popular stuff going around wich is most of the time just "hahahaha I have better toys" Taangali Wastes have potential to just do about everything, but extreme unpredictability wich you voiced in its preview is quite concerning, still, so many cultures of so many different technological level (some perhaps even capable to reach interstellar travel) is just endless weil of possibilities.
A niche concern I have is that, since this is going to be a Cold War tale, with seemingly Liberal vs Fascist vs Communist factions I would just say that tropes about each of these should be reflected on and also avoided. Especially for the Comintern faction, that the stereotypical trope of Stalinist Space Communism really would be missing out on so much narrative of alternative and competing leftist factions (both democratic and anti-democratic) and would help differentiate them from whatever the Axis faction would be.
Bingo. I said in a comment somewhere else that it would be good to see lots of remixes or poorly understood ideals. Look at how Kaiserreich popularized Syndicalism. Communards and communalists, maybe a couple flavors of anarchists or go wilder with labor-focused but very hierarchical combos based on medieval guild politics or something. If it seems odd, consider that it might be hard to take over a country, but it's pretty easy to make sure that you're on the same starship as all your buddies.
Agreed--I'd imagine there'd be a ton of tension between the orthodox Marxist-Leninists, Trotskyites (who now want to bring revolution to the entire *universe*, not just the world), and anarcho-communists like Emma Goldman and Volin
Yup, a Soviet retread would be pretty boring. Seeing a Revolutionary Front with different kinds of leftists factions like Marxist-Leninist, anarchist, etc. vying for control would be interesting. Basically, less Command and Conquer, more Kaisserreich.
Who cares about the commies lol, hopefully the "faꜱᴄist" ideology has evolved into some sort of "Might Makes Right" hyper-ruthless meritocracy; where the dividing line is now between The Strong & the ᴡeak instead of bigoted prejudices like race or ethnicity.
That was a really good one. I always like such scenarios and this one needs to be explored and extended. It's not the bold bright future, rather Mankind never learns its lessons as our history sadly tells us.
The comments section and my brief familiarity with this universe led me down a rabbit hole. I first heard of the Dawn Of Victory Project because of a piece of art when I was looking for War of the worlds fanart. I found the piece of art of The First Scinfaxi War and briefly looked over the universe and thought it was a neat worldbuilding project that wore its inspirations on its shoulders. It reminded me of my own project. And when I saw that art in this video... This is something special to Marc. Marc created Dawn of Victory back in the day. That's something I just learned by doing some research through the old sites. This seems to me like an attempt to recapture a project that Marc put his passions into, but life had him move onto other projects like the Institute itself. I'm going to vote for this because I can relate to having a rough project that I want to go back to with my new skills and make it better. It's how my own worldbuilding project has gone for the last decade. PS: Road to War remix is fantastic and I love the ideas of post-alien invasions too
I remember when dawn of victory came out and being really sad when it ended. I really hope this wins, I always wanted this universe to be fleshed out more.
I thought that the first proposition was my favorite but this one... As someone doing world-building on a sci fi universe in the Milky Way with a big point made in imagining ideologies, their enemies, political systems, their transformations and their interactions, this is absolutely great !
Personally, I’m voting for fantasy world war one because it’s a completely unique idea that’s never been done before - Almost every story or universe that takes place in our future humanity where we colonize the stars is a story about a Cold War or complex alliances (like starfeild) - The most interesting part is probably the past where 1933 humanity had to fight a cancerous alien but the setting it takes place in doesn’t look like anything that unique
@@nathansmith5931 Fantasy WW1 is not a completely unique idea lmao. Dieselpunk is an entire genre based on placing fantasy elements within the inter-war period. In fact, there's already another RUclipsr (Monster Garden) that's working with an almost identical concept to Tyrell for his worldbuilding. Believe me, you'll be able to satisfy your "magic with guns" itch pretty easily; it's a common trope lol
in my personal opinion the war of the 30s and 40s is the most interesting idea of this setting as is the follow up to the evacuation. Supposing this one gets the pick i'd like to see more of that or more on the creatures that killed the earth.
This is my second favorite of these settings, so I'll leave a comment here too. I don't have much to say except that this is a very big setting. To really do justice too it, and your goals of geopolitics, there's a lot of detail you'll need to go into. Otherwise you risk doing what star wars does, minimizing the planets to tell stories of the stars. It might be in your comfort zone, but there's a lot of it to do.
I remember being so invested in Dawn of Victory 2289, I was so sad that it wasnt super active. I thought the project was dead. I am so glad you might revive it. I hope you make the factions more unique though, would love to see how almost 300 years of living in "civilizationary isolation" changed the 4 factions.
dude I'm from the Philippines, if you want to add more information about where it originated you could incorporate local urban legends like the biringan. locals told stories of Biringan City, an otherworldly place inhabited by engkantos. But instead of beautiful palaces or fortresses reminiscent of mythical cities like Lothlorien, Biringan is somewhat like a black urban city filled spires and cathedrals instead of skyscrapers.
This is probably the one getting picked, which is kind of a shame. While interesting enough, this is the bread and butter of the Institute. How much more intriguing would be the more unorthodox setting of the Wastes or WW1 fantasy world?
DoV!? Is this the actual launch of Dawn of Victory?!! Yeeeeessss! I've been waiting for this since it was pitted as a mod for forces of corruption. This will be amazing. I also worked a little bit on DoV, writing a few pieces on the wiki. I really want this one to win
So I'm curious, what's gonna happen to the settings that don't get chosen? Are they gonna be given away or just discarded? It'd be a damn shame to see any of these amazing settings just forgotten. Honestly they're all really good.
Dawn of Victory, man I miss this sci-fi setting. I always wondered what happened to it. Well I know what I'm voting for in the polls since I want to see this project come back to light. As an old Pacific State, especially among Filipinos goes, EVER LOYAL TO MACARTHUR, HE GOT US OUT IN THE PHILIPPINES, HE'LL GET US OUT IN ANY MESS! I hope that there is a chance to explore the stories of the Filipino survivors and discuss on how they faired in the Pacific States if that part of the lore ever comes back.
friend! A month ago I was thinking about the setting for a board game that I am developing, and it "occurred to me" (sorry George Orwell) of a cold war between the three blocks of the Second World War, which stagnated and grew until it reached near space. , but after seeing such a work of worldbuilding captured in this incredibly well narrated, illustrated and edited video, mine feels like monopoly lore hahaha. Incredible work, one of the best things the entire Templin Institute team has done. Thank you for accompanying me on so many sleepless nights. strength and encouragement, this is just the beginning of something much bigger!
The Story of the Orion Belt has extreme Nausicaa (later studio gibli) vibes. With the strange fungus growth. I also love the different societies. It would be interesting to explore how the different societal structures evolve and at what point there is the "great filter" where the society either either is stagnant and cannot evolve further or degrades and cannot reach space again. As I read the comment about logistics, I have to say I love the phoenix class ships from halo and the Spirit of Fire. There is so much logistics in that ship, whole factories to terra form planets and build weapons to supply armies! If the ship is preserved they can only run out of people to fight.
I quite like this idea. It has echoes of where I wish the halo universe had gone post Bungie. And that is into the direction of a interstellar cold war, in Halo you have two factions that are the military leaders, one with it's entire leadership and administrative center completely destroyed, and the other with it's leadership intact, but so much of it's industry completely destroyed. Each struggling to reassert authority over the litony of breakaway states and new factions that are forming in the wake of the last interstellar war.
The premise seems a bit too busy, you could make a whole setting out of just that first part with the great powers of WW2 fighting an alien planet cancer. Honestly, I'm more interested in that.
I was thinking the opposite. Lose the boring alt-history "war of the worlds" introduction, replace it with something simple like war or anthropogenic climate change rendering the planet uninhabitable. Make the "last evacuation" more somber and depressing than outright traumatic. Then focus on the interstellar cold war which becomes much more realistic if humans never had an outside threat unifying them and if they only have other humans to blame for the loss of the homeworld. Let the last "holoimage" (or whatever) of the brown uninhabitable rock that was Earth be a chip on every human's shoulder. Turn it into something that every student across every world is taught, except it's been misappropriated and it's become propaganda for every superpower to blame the others for. Meanwhile the actual truth is ambiguous and lost to time.
@@jerichoshepherd2106 So we are in agreement about the premise being too busy. It needs to have either the ww2 planet cancer or the space cold war. Having both is just too much.
I can't decide between Taangali and Tyrell. I'm not too big a fan of Sci-Fi unless it's more like Dune, where there seems to be archaic systems in place. I'm way more Into fantasy, Orion Arm sounds great, but doesn't exactly resonate with me So I think I'll be choosing Tyrell
Holy crap. I thought it sounded familiar. I was actually following it on Sins of a Solar Empire. I hope to see this world finally fleshed out, and maybe playable in the future!
I voted for this but the other two settings are great too. I want to see more from all of them. The Templin Institute needs to implement cloning technology.
I like this one, for being a space setting, for one, I've wanted to see a really new one a while. As for the sensitivity issues, I imagine a lot of these powers and ideologies probably would have had to adapt, maybe fail and reboot, just with everything going on, and over that time and space. ...for instance, maybe Japan's more interesting when it's modernizing/balancing with tradition. I could see, for instance, in that timeline, Japan can't really mess with Manchuria cause the rest of their empire is getting alienified, ...factions like Tojo's lose influence, maybe you have a more modern guy like Yamamoto and of course the Navy and what follows rise to prominence, even basically like be Shogun, and you know, maybe all kinds of other powers spawned versions of themselves that are less or more problematic than the real-world atrocities. (Which leads me to wonder if they have FTL travel/comms? )
Dawn of Victory 2289 was an amazing sci-fi/alternate history scenario but I agree it needed a little work when dealing with real world historical ideologies. However the Orion Arm sounds like an awesome way to reboot DoV and update it at the same time. So I vote for this!
I am Extremely excited As i originally followed your work before Templin when you did "Dawn of Victory" and even messaged you a few times about it. Seeing you reimagine that setting like this is beyond exciting to me and i cannot put into words how much this has made my day.
I'll be voting for this one. It's an interesting idea, and seems the best fitted of the three for the sort of techniques the Templin Institute most enjoys using.
I thought I rememberd that mod, but I was actually thinking of a different "alien invasion during WW2 made humanity move into space" mod to a space game.
Was that Dawn of Victory? I am sure it had faction that is correspond to Allies (Democratic Federation), German (Greater German Reich), Soviet, Japan, and other minor nations but in space
Somehow Rebel Moon gets two full movies while fantastic stories like this are left to 20ish minute summary videos. Maybe in a few years we will get original world building like this on the big screen. Thank you for all the work put into this.
I was of the opinion that we had seen too much military scifi from the Institute already, and rather supported Tyrell. But I do want to see more Dawn of Victory.....
Once you get past the origin story of an alien cancer consuming earth in the 1930s this idea is really just the same as starfeild - I’m voting for the low fantasy option because it’s just such a unique idea I’ve never seen before
Man, I really want Tyrrell to win, fantasy struggling to deal with industrialisation is such an underutilized setting, whereas space opera is admittedly far more common sight, which regretfully leads me to think that Orion will win, which in my opinion would be disappointing...
Yeah, it would be nice to have a more unique world win, but it looks like this one is winning - I’m still voting for the low fantasy option and hoping it wins
I really enjoy all 3 potential worlds, leaning toward the last 2 and probably this one takes the cake. They all have great bones I feel and wish all 3 could be made or maybe in the future they can all be explored. Either way I'm sure you'll do right by them.
Since the Orion Arm is currently the frontrunner of the 3 settings, I'm hoping that at least Templin will add some ideas from the Taangali Wastes as well to expand on the frontier part of this setting. I hope a modified version of the convoys/Prime Convoys get included here, maybe even as a replacement of megacorps that are kinda cliche now imo.
One thing to consider, as others have mentioned regarding scale inconsistencies in other franchises like Star Wars and Star Trek, etc., because we have 3D applications like Blender which are widely available to the public, it is possible to now build "scale models" that are 1:1 with typical human size and not just ensuring ship and vehicle sizes, but also interior to exterior.
Every sci-fi world has World War II elements, I really don’t see anything that unique about this other than the origin story so I’m voting for the world war one fantasy because I’ve never heard of any idea like it
This idea isn’t bad, but it is basically just another futuristic human civilization colonizing our region of the Galaxy locked in a Cold War, there are hundreds of bucks in video games imagining the same exact thing for example Starfield - The most unique part of it is probably the war against that alien cancer in 1933, but the time where the story actually takes place is pretty much every sci-fi future of humanity - I’m voting for world war one fantasy because I’ve literally never heard of that idea before and it’s completely unique rather than something that has been done a thousand times before
Templin, I am so fucking mad rn. Everything you've described- even the name, is what I have been working on for 3 years now. Except the name for mine was Perseus Arm as they'd just found a way to travel there 😂😊
I get what you feel bro, cause my years-long project have similarity to the Tangaali. Though I'm not that worried since fundamentally, it's waaay different
I vote for the orion arm series, I'm probably plus months late for the voting but i got the time to watch these vids so again my vote goes for the orion arm series.
I'm happy that you mentioned kaiserreich, because often political ideologies tend to be misreprensted (I'm on the left and I'm tired of people reducing left wing political systems at the gouvernement does stuff there's lot of red and a glorious leader that goes by big brother ...) And going back to kaiserreich I always loved the fact that there is a lot of nuances between the different flavors of ideologies presented (I mean the commune of france is a clusterf**k of left wing in-fighting and I love it for that) Anyway the multipolarity of the setting is going to be a marvel to watch if it does end up ahead in the poll
Scinfaxi "Shining hair", shining maned horse, child of Dagr "Day" & Nott "Night", ridden by Dagr, twin of Hrimfaxi "Rime hair", ridden by Nott. what time period of the Orion's Arm setting are we focusing on?
An interesting premise, one with a lot of potential with how grounded it is in history. If I may, I'd like to point out a few areas I personally would hate to see ignored outright if you choose to develop this setting further. If you're going to be taking cold war geopolitics, the political blocs of the early 1900s, and then have these come together 200 years later in space after the Earth has been destroyed, you would be remiss to neglect the lasting impact of colonialism and imperialism and the role they played in the historical Cold War. You've already mentioned how the neglect of the world powers towards their colonial subjects exacerbated the crisis, but your focus then largely pivoted after that point to focus on the actions of the political blocs. I understand that the impact of colonialism and imperialism isn't on your list of themes, but given your chosen inspirations and tenets, it would be foolish to neglect them. There's a reason why many anti-colonial, anti-imperial, anti-racist, and anti-fascist movements adopted communism as a guiding ideology.
Looks like this is the one that's going to win. Personally I voted for Tyrrell, but this could be good too. They'll have to make an extra effort to make sure this doesn’t just feel like another Stellaris Invicta season.
I'm open minded about this one. The theme or whatever is innately more interesting than the previous one. My only worry at start is that the community votes for this one simply to get another GTU. Which was honestly fantastic, but we don't need to repeat old territory. I have faith in this channel not to do that. Let's see something new and exciting! Also, at first glance the title "Orion Arm" immediately sent my my to the Orion's Arm worldbuilding project. One of my favorites. So far I'm still more interested in Taangali, but lets see what this has to offer.
I mean, Cold War successor staes made from run-offs due to a overgrown alien earth is different from a grizzled nation that kicked back an alien invasion.
This is tempting. I feel the need to know how Earth managed to develop interstellar technology within 2 centuries at a fraction of resources available in OTL, especially since exponential economical growth we enjoyed thanks to automation and computers would come much later. Not to mention just what kind of interstellar technology are we talking about: ramjets, Alcubierre, wormholes, something stranger... Still, I think that Mad Max/Roadside Picnic lovechild that is Taangali is too original to pass on. Also, unrelated, but am I correct at seeing the influence of Annihilation in the way that Outgrowths are realised?
And there's the scifi world! Hmm, seems fairly by the numbers at a glance. I'm seeing familiar tropes and empire archetypes, but Templin brining their geopolitical flair to even well-worn tropes sounds like it could be interesting. Though directly working on nations and ideologies from the real world are liable to backfire in the form of internet drama. :V And to think I've gone from ready to go for the military sci-fi world right away to struggling to pick between all three! Though as others have noted, Orion's Arm is an existing name for another, relatively hard scifi worldbuilding project. Just to keep in mind.
Given the what happened to earth, its impossible that the superpowers wouldnt have some sort of plan in place in the event such a thing was encountered again, even if the plan is as basic as "if you see a planet whose biosphere looks like this, split the planet in half".
The "War of the Worlds: Goliath" by-way-of "Anihilation" origin of the setting doesn't seem to mesh very closely with the results. It's like they're two separate stories.
I just hope that this will be more niuansed then good na dad guys. I would love to see diffrent systems of goverments working but working with positives and negatives.

The name Orions arm is taken by an excellent and innovative science fiction verse.

plus it allows us to have cool ass landing scenes with ships dropping off tanks into the battlefield, or mechs being shot into the surface from orbit

Optimism is certainly one way to call it.
I’ve personally really liked the mad max setting. It has so much potential for anthology type story telling. Literally can be whatever you want
I can definitely see that. Almost any generic post apocalyptic setting could host many kinds of stories
It also feels like if you can have mystic elements to it too if you wanted.

It's the actual name for a spiral arm of our galaxy. Thats like claiming Alpha Centuari or Deneb.
Well, damn. Now I want all 3!
Though I have a feeling this one will win. Pity since I really want the others!
God they're all gold, it's gonna be so hard to pick. Whatever wins though, I know it'll be an awesome journey to see it come together.
Yeah, honestly hoping the fantasy one wins, that one killed it.
Me reading this after finding out this won 😐.
@@Starsmasher287Yeah like with the battle groups ... so much wasted potential
Muv-luv mention
I am reminded of a more aggressive version of the Annihilation film
Been a fan of the old Dawn of Victory setting for while, so if this is similar to that it’ll get my vote
"If this is like what I already like, I'll like it"
@GrievousInflux what is wrong with you?
"This thing is similar/inspired by the thing I already like" is a perfectly valid reason to like something.
As someone who is currently writing about a scifi set in the Orion Arm, I am intrigued.
Same xD
Wouldn't all fiction set on earth count lol
Same, though Orion arm is only one of the three/four arms colonized.
Tyrrell also arguably infringes on Game of Thrones, since it's only one letter away from House Tyrell and is pronounced the same way.
@@russman3787 Tyrell is a real world name and has been used in soooo many IPs. There is no infringement
@@wynsonrao5177 I guess so. It could still be a little confusing given the popularity of GoT though.
Absolutely love this idea.
There is a huge gap in my heart for science fiction and this looks and sounds really promising.
Ah, Dawn of Victory, my beloved.
Glad you’re still developing this, Swiss. You influenced me in terms of what modding could be and how important strong writing was for a creative project. I admit, I struggle to live up to your example- but I do still try.
Yeah, I remember that whole Dawn of Victory thing - I stumbled across it a few years back, but never realized it was a Templin thing.
Well, I will be the first to admit that some of the background I wrote for the UK IN SPAACE on the DoV wiki was probably not the best.... but I had a lot of fun doing it and it was good practice! :D
I'm really looking forward to seeing what the Templin Institute can do with the Orion Arm... so it gets my enthusiastic vote!
World of Tyrell could be actuall high-quality take on quite popular stuff going around wich is most of the time just "hahahaha I have better toys"
Taangali Wastes have potential to just do about everything, but extreme unpredictability wich you voiced in its preview is quite concerning, still, so many cultures of so many different technological level (some perhaps even capable to reach interstellar travel) is just endless weil of possibilities.
Yeah my big concern here is that they'll just kinda have the Comintern as 3 red scare caricatures in a trench coat.
No matter how many times I watch this video, the phrase "deeply beautiful melodies of color" will never fail to send a chill down my spine.
That was a really good one. I always like such scenarios and this one needs to be explored and extended. It's not the bold bright future, rather Mankind never learns its lessons as our history sadly tells us.
The Scimfaxi, the antagonist of an unsung war.
Personally, I’m voting for fantasy world war one because it’s a completely unique idea that’s never been done before
-
Almost every story or universe that takes place in our future humanity where we colonize the stars is a story about a Cold War or complex alliances (like starfeild)
-
The most interesting part is probably the past where 1933 humanity had to fight a cancerous alien but the setting it takes place in doesn’t look like anything that unique
I won't mind if this one wins, but gosh, Tyrrell has convinced me
in my personal opinion the war of the 30s and 40s is the most interesting idea of this setting as is the follow up to the evacuation.
Not to be confused with the Orion's Arm hard sci-fi project.
dude I'm from the Philippines, if you want to add more information about where it originated you could incorporate local urban legends like the biringan. locals told stories of Biringan City, an otherworldly place inhabited by engkantos.
This is really good SF! I wouldn't mind seeing a series set in this universe! ^_^ Very well done, Templin Institute! Very well done, indeed! ^_^
So I'm curious, what's gonna happen to the settings that don't get chosen? Are they gonna be given away or just discarded? It'd be a damn shame to see any of these amazing settings just forgotten. Honestly they're all really good.
Maybe there'll be another round of worldbuilding a year/years later. Like how returning empires appeared for Stellaris Invicta Season 2.
@@chaosfire321 Fair, guess we'll fine out
Dawn of Victory, man I miss this sci-fi setting.
Given the audience of the channel, I feel like the odds are stacked in favor of this setting winning. I hope one of the other two does instead.
I KNEW this sounded familiar! I remember seeing a bunch of posts about this setting on Reddit with lots of concept art
No wonder this won the vote. What an amazing World.
Looking forward to how the Institute develops this World.
The premise seems a bit too busy, you could make a whole setting out of just that first part with the great powers of WW2 fighting an alien planet cancer. Honestly, I'm more interested in that.
I agree. They feel like two separate stories, and I'm also more interested in setting an alternate-history Earth battling against cosmic horror
@@mikedangerdoesgo play fall of man
I was thinking the opposite.
Maybe the could just split it into two stories in the same setting, maybe as alternative timelines based on what happens to earth.
...gaaaaaaah you did not make choosing easy. I haven't voted yet and I am not looking forward to agonizing about it. All of these are awesome!
I can't decide between Taangali and Tyrell.
I'm not too big a fan of Sci-Fi unless it's more like Dune, where there seems to be archaic systems in place. I'm way more Into fantasy, Orion Arm sounds great, but doesn't exactly resonate with me
So I think I'll be choosing
Tyrell
You guys know that there’s another similar worldbuilding project that’s been around for a while called Orion’s Arm…
Holy crap. I thought it sounded familiar. I was actually following it on Sins of a Solar Empire.
I hope to see this world finally fleshed out, and maybe playable in the future!
Glad to see people still remember that mod.
I voted for this but the other two settings are great too. I want to see more from all of them. The Templin Institute needs to implement cloning technology.
We're working on it, but it's so expensive.
What happens to the other ideas when one is chosen? Can anyone take heavy inspiration or even flesh them out themselves?
I mean they can’t stop you from doing that lol
Maybe there'll be another round of worldbuilding a year/years later. Like how returning empires appeared for Stellaris Invicta Season 2.
This is by far the best, most expanding, ready for filling any niche story setting
I am
Extremely excited
As i originally followed your work before Templin when you did "Dawn of Victory" and even messaged you a few times about it. Seeing you reimagine that setting like this is beyond exciting to me and i cannot put into words how much this has made my day.
So hyped. Super under rated channel
@@johoey4726 His me of was dawn of victory.
What I remember is something else.
Somehow Rebel Moon gets two full movies while fantastic stories like this are left to 20ish minute summary videos. Maybe in a few years we will get original world building like this on the big screen. Thank you for all the work put into this.
Dawn of Victory! I’ve always wanted to see this IP grow into something more than the wiki page, please make this a thing!
I was of the opinion that we had seen too much military scifi from the Institute already, and rather supported Tyrell. But I do want to see more Dawn of Victory.....
Once you get past the origin story of an alien cancer consuming earth in the 1930s this idea is really just the same as starfeild
-
I’m voting for the low fantasy option because it’s just such a unique idea I’ve never seen before
Well, while Tyrrell gets my vote, I can comfortably say whatever wins I'll be happy! All 3 settings are good, looking forward to what comes next.
Man, I really want Tyrrell to win, fantasy struggling to deal with industrialisation is such an underutilized setting, whereas space opera is admittedly far more common sight, which regretfully leads me to think that Orion will win, which in my opinion would be disappointing...
Yeah, it would be nice to have a more unique world win, but it looks like this one is winning
-
I’m still voting for the low fantasy option and hoping it wins
yeah or the Taangali Wastes one.....
That idea has been in my mind for years as a story concept. Sucks it lost
I do love me some geopolitics, maybe we add that to the Taangali Wastes?
I really enjoy all 3 potential worlds, leaning toward the last 2 and probably this one takes the cake. They all have great bones I feel and wish all 3 could be made or maybe in the future they can all be explored. Either way I'm sure you'll do right by them.
This is by far my favourite
Since the Orion Arm is currently the frontrunner of the 3 settings, I'm hoping that at least Templin will add some ideas from the Taangali Wastes as well to expand on the frontier part of this setting. I hope a modified version of the convoys/Prime Convoys get included here, maybe even as a replacement of megacorps that are kinda cliche now imo.
considering this is the kind of SciFi i am working on myself, this one has my vote.
This is a beautiful mix of Halo, Mass Effect, War of the Worlds, Star Wars, and the Expanse.
A ww2 themed military scifi sounds absolutely badass. Definitely getting my vote
Every sci-fi world has World War II elements, I really don’t see anything that unique about this other than the origin story so I’m voting for the world war one fantasy because I’ve never heard of any idea like it
Wait this is DOV Timeline?!
This is Dawn Of Victory timelines!
This is happiness.
This idea isn’t bad, but it is basically just another futuristic human civilization colonizing our region of the Galaxy locked in a Cold War, there are hundreds of bucks in video games imagining the same exact thing for example Starfield
-
The most unique part of it is probably the war against that alien cancer in 1933, but the time where the story actually takes place is pretty much every sci-fi future of humanity
-
I’m voting for world war one fantasy because I’ve literally never heard of that idea before and it’s completely unique rather than something that has been done a thousand times before
I'm a sucker for military sci-fi,
I really like this one as well!
Tough choices in the whole line up.
Looking forward to the results.
The details are what matter man, not the broad strokes. Keep at it!
I'm getting "7 hour war vibes" of the Half life series from this.
I vote for the orion arm series, I'm probably plus months late for the voting but i got the time to watch these vids so again my vote goes for the orion arm series.
When I first clicked this video, I had thought this was going to be about the Orion's Arm project.
This is great, it has so much potential for lore and world building, I hope it wins
I'm happy that you mentioned kaiserreich, because often political ideologies tend to be misreprensted (I'm on the left and I'm tired of people reducing left wing political systems at the gouvernement does stuff there's lot of red and a glorious leader that goes by big brother ...)
And going back to kaiserreich I always loved the fact that there is a lot of nuances between the different flavors of ideologies presented (I mean the commune of france is a clusterf**k of left wing in-fighting and I love it for that)
Anyway the multipolarity of the setting is going to be a marvel to watch if it does end up ahead in the poll
Honestly same. Vive L'Commune!
I'm so glad that Dawn of Victory gets some kind of a return. I was sad when I learnt that the mod was canceled.
Well, they’re all really good.
Holy, wait I recognize this, Dawn of Victory!
I'm glad this vote is so difficult. Several good options.
I want them to cover Orion's Arm eventually
And to think I've gone from ready to go for the military sci-fi world right away to struggling to pick between all three!
Though as others have noted, Orion's Arm is an existing name for another, relatively hard scifi worldbuilding project. Just to keep in mind.
I think this one is much better than the other two.
