  • How to Play Street Dice: Street Craps is a great way to play the game of craps. No need for the casino, table, or fancy layout, just some cash and a set of dice. There are a lot of similarities between street craps and casino craps. The dice game basically revolves around the familiar pass & don't pass bets that is found in casino craps.

No tutorial on street games is complete without covering
    1. Cheaters-and how to spot them
    2. Cheats-what are the most common ones in each type of game, what are the potentially most costly ones
    3. Personal safety-detecting potential for violence and danger signs you're about to get robbed.
    4. Law-street games are illegal everywhere, but enforcement of laws vary from location to location and also based on the dollar amount being gambled. A friendly game between friends is one thing, but you're in a different league entirely when you're playing with (and against) strangers who are very likely degenerates, con artists, violent criminals, or all of the above.

Long time ago while drilling oil well in TX the rig was down a while. The roughnecks had a craps game where everybody anted up. 7 or 11 won and craps resulted in a lost turn. The dice passed to the left. A player had 2 chances to hit the point but could "chance it" one time w another ante. Rules changed constantly as we voted and the rule was written on a blackboard. Say the rule was that if a 4 rolled (not the point) the dude to the right had to put another ante in. The 5, dude on the left and so on. The pot got huge fast as there were about 10 men playing.

In order to calculate the combined odds of winning or losing on the first roll and in the point rounds, we'll need to break it down a bit. Let's start with the odds on the first roll:
    Winning on the first roll (rolling a 7 or 11): 8/36 = 2/9 ≈ 22.22%.
    Losing on the first roll (rolling a 2, 3, or 12): 4/36 = 1/9 ≈ 11.11%.
The remaining chance (66.67%) is that the shooter rolls a point number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10). If this happens, the game continues, and the shooter will keep rolling until they roll their point again (a win) or roll a 7 (a loss).
Here are the probabilities of winning or losing during the point rounds, based on what the point is:
    For points of 4 or 10, there are 3 winning combinations and 6 losing combinations (for a 7). This gives a win probability of 3/9 = 1/3 ≈ 33.33% and a loss probability of 2/3 ≈ 66.67%.
For points of 5 or 9, there are 4 winning combinations and 6 losing combinations. This gives a win probability of 4/10 = 40% and a loss probability of 60%.
For points of 6 or 8, there are 5 winning combinations and 6 losing combinations. This gives a win probability of 5/11 ≈ 45.45% and a loss probability of 55.55%.
Now, we need to adjust these probabilities based on the likelihood of each point being rolled:
    The shooter rolls a 4 or 10: 6/36 = 1/6 of the time.
    The shooter rolls a 5 or 9: 8/36 = 2/9 of the time.
    The shooter rolls a 6 or 8: 10/36 = 5/18 of the time.
    So, combining these:
    The probability of winning after the first roll is 22.22% + (1/6 * 33.33%) + (2/9 * 40%) + (5/18 * 45.45%) ≈ 49.29%.
    The probability of losing after the first roll is 11.11% + (1/6 * 66.67%) + (2/9 * 60%) + (5/18 * 55.55%) ≈ 50.71%.
So in a game of street craps, the shooter has roughly a 49.29% chance of winning and a 50.71% chance of losing over the course of the game, starting with the first roll and including any necessary point rounds.

Heh I'm not a big gamer, but I like anything involving applied math, and there is a ton of applied math when it comes to dice games. Or any game of chance. But I'm a fan of dice. You've got the geometry of the dice themselves, especially non-cubic dice. They tend to have very interesting shapes, mathematically. Then there's the obvious statistics. Especially if you're using 2 dice. A lot of people don't think that it's easier to roll a 7 than a 2. That sorta thing. I've always enjoyed engineering, especially electronics more. So I've never been big into statistics, but I think I've just found a practical way for me to get into statistics. I guess I've learned a little bit about statistics, like about the properties of what makes a sequence random. Which it turns out are the complete opposite of what we think it is. There are lots of great videos explaining this.

Also after a point is established the bet doubles. Thats what they mean by 1 and 1 more, 10 and 10 more. 10 to establish the point and 10 after the point. Makes a $40 main. There are always 2 people in the main. The shooter and the fade. After losing the shooter becomes the fade and the fade rotate out the main while the next in line becomes the shooter.

a good side bet should have more action, we would always take sister numbers, like you get the 6 for $5, and I'll take the 8 for $5. If the point or big red is hit before with number we double the side bet. play goes like that til the side bet is resolved. A larger side bet is uptown against downtown. If you want bigger swings side bets can go to hardway combinations or 2/12.

Kool video. I grew up playing street craps with my lunch money. No win, no eat. We used to play side bets too. Example. If the shooters point was 4, the shooter would say, “I take Joe-10 for $5.00 or whatever amount (4&10) and another player would say, “I give you Joe-10” & then the bet is made. The shooter gets the 4 & 10 to win & the fader gets only the 7 to win. Then if the shooters point is 5 or 9, then the shooter would ask to take 5 & 9 or another player would say, “I give 5-9. Here the shooter gets the 5 & 9 to win and the fader gets only the 7 & 11 to win. Same thing if the point was 6 or 8. The shooter or person taking 6-8 gets the 6 & 8 to win & the fader gets the 7, the 11, & all the craps to win. All these bets were even money. Thatʻs how I learned craps growing up on Oʻahu. We played at the Bus stop, in the school bathrooms, or at a friends house. I never learned LV style craps until 1991 when I was 19yrs old at the Cal. I used my Uncleʻs old I.D. My 1st trip to LV I only used to play the big 6-8 because I felt as if this had better odds compared to how we played craps back home because you only lost with the 7 instead of the 7, the 11, & all the craps. No casinos in Oʻahu only Chicken fights where they have crap games but its played like street craps style like I mentioned above & not like how it is in LV.

      * Of course you`re right: I watched other videos of street dice games and it´s very common to hear people betting "paired" side bets (10-4, 9-5 and 6-8). Due to the fact that except from 10-4 against 7 should be the only fair bet...Is there a way to "balance" the other ones (6-8 and 9-5)?.
      * When you recommend to bet single numbers (and not to bet "paired" ones) in 6:18 when you bet a side bet (10) after the point (9)...I thought it was called a "come bet" and also thought the bet was 1-1 (10$ vs 10$ as an example). Am I correct?
      Thanks in advance.

      @ColorUp  3 года назад +1

Daniel Rama del Castillo you balance the bets, by betting true odds money, but not typically done in street dice, and they just play 1:1. As far as the example you stated, it would not be a come bet in the traditional came because you don’t get the benefit of the 7/11 winner on the “come out” roll for that new number.

Hi. I really like your videos. I've been looking at videos on how to play craps. I really like your videos. Someone showed me how to play street craps. I think they do the double numbers to equal a one to one odd. For example if you bet on the six-eight (six and eight) You loose with seven, eleven, and three. If you bet the five-nine you loose with 7 and 11. If you bet the four-ten you loose with the seven or seven and two. Anyways, not sure if I'm correct, but it makes sense this way. Anyways, thank you so much for your videos, because I always wanted to learn how to play in a casino. Now I do, but still need some work. LOL

Are rules are much simpler. Roll the dice wait on your point ( 2, 3 , 7, 11, 12 are not points), when you get your point, keep rolling till you hit, if it lands on 7 you crap out. Simple

So on the come out, a roll of 2, 3, and 12 lose, just like in casino craps.
But does the shooter keep the dice like in casino craps? They haven't sevened out yet, so I'm assuming yes?
Was hoping to see a 2, 3, or 12 rolled in the video on the come out roll. Didn't see one rolled, unless I missed it.
Also, question on side bets. Couldn't an equal side bet (1 to 1) be like "I'll take 5 and 6, you take 8 and 9," or even "I'll take 6 and 8, you take 3, 7, and 11"? Just so long as the odds of the rolls being made are even, you should be able to make it a 1 to 1 bet. Maybe I'm over complicating it though?
Interesting video! Might just start playing this with friends at parties after the pandemic is over.

This is one of the only craps video that I 💯 agree with 😂
Every bet he mentions, with or against the shooter, and side bets on the numbers with fair odds, is a great bet!
As long as everyone gets the same number of turns as shooter, this game is a completely FAIR game for every player, which is NOT true of craps (or any other game) in the casino, where every bet has a "house edge".

    • @ColorUp
      @ColorUp  2 года назад +1

      Yep, fair game

For the main bet (not the side bets), doesn't the don't player have the mathematical advantage? If I'm understanding it right, the main bet has the exact same rules as the passline bet on a regular craps table, which has a 1.41% disadvantage.
So if the don't player wins on the 12 (instead of pushes on the 12), doesn't this mean that they're basically the same as the house?
It obviously doesn't matter in the short run, and most people who play street dice probably don't care about the exact odds.
But it seems like if you played it this way for a long time and bet more when you weren't the shooter, you'd be more likely to come out ahead.

    • @luxlance
      @luxlance Год назад +3

What if they make another pot and the shooter rolls a 7 on the come out roll? Does the shooter win the pot and the side bet because the 7 came out before the 4? Or are side bets off during the second come out roll?

  • @Siberius-
    @Siberius- 3 года назад +5

So you're more likely to win the come-out roll (winning the money), but you are often FAR more likely to lose rolls after that... (losing the money).
The thing is, you only get 1 shot at rolling the 7 with the come-out roll (the most likely number you'll roll by far, compared to the 11 or whatever). Then if you miss it, which you will, most of the time... you then gotta try and roll some other number that could be way shittier than a 7, and the other person gets to win the money with a 7.
BUT, since you keep rolling until one of the 2 numbers comes up, it's exceedingly more likely that you lose your money. Like every time the shooter lost the money here, as they statistically should.
The math just doesn't seem to make sense here... you get 1 chance to roll a 7, but they get endless chances after that (ignoring the other numbers for the moment, I'm bad at statistics).
Seems like the strat is to put out as little money as possible each time as the shooter, and hope the other guys puts out a lot of money as the shooter, and wait for him to lose more than you lose (which statistically would happen). Why would the shooter put out a load of money...
Then the side bets are just straight up equal probability betting... which is at least far more incentive to put money down. I can see why side bets are a thing. Also makes the money move quicker, rather than rolling all day. I wouldn't dabble in side bets though. I'd rather stick to the part of the game where I have much higher odds than my opponent.
Wait I missed something entirely. So you only lose the dice if you 7-out. Meaning you roll a 7 in the second half, losing the money. Otherwise you remain the shooter, over and over again (winning or losing the money in the first half). Which, doesn't seem to "fix" anything.. it would make it worse, since the shooter has it worse, so you want to get out of that as soon as you can. Seemingly.
Also the annoying complicating unequal odds craps numbers for the side-bets didn't show up here. Like, apparently:
Crap number for 4 and 10 is 7
    Crap numbers for 5 and 9 is 7, 11
    Crap numbers for 6 and 8 is 2, 3, 12, 7
    ___
I think I'd change it to likkkkke:
The first half is the same (where the shooter has double the odds of winning, though it's only 1 round).
Then with the second half, you have your point number (which you hope is close to 7 in value). The other person needs you to roll a 7, for them to win the money.
But, there's only 3 rolls, to either win the bet with your own number, or for for no numbers to come up, or to lose via the other person winning with a 7. Which takes 6 rolls on average, so that's a reasonable 50% chance to have the shooter lose their own bet, WHICH is just talking about 7s and ignoring the probability of the shooter rolling their point-number (I'm bad at statistics lol).
So if no numbers are rolled (you survive), and then you as the shooter get the money that you had bet.
Maybe 4 rolls would make it more even, which is ideal. You want people to only bet a little bit of money at a time.
Yea 4 rolls. Since the shooter can win via the other player not rolling a 7, AND they can also win via rolling their point-number (which could be good or shit). So 4 rolls probably makes that even enough (plus the shooter gets 1 crack at taking the money in the first half, with better odds than the opponent).
It's likely far easier to roll a 7 in 4 turns, compared to the shit (probably) the shooter rolled earlier (their point-number).
Can also do side bets the same way. 4-10, 5-9, 6-8 (they just stay in play like usual).
Side bets can get silly though, and the odds aren't even. I think a good idea would be to have the same 3 pairings, say you do a 5-9, you then get to pick which number you are (say the 5), and the other person in the bet is then the 9. Whoever's side bet number out of 5 or 9 comes up first, gets the side bet money. Much more simple than some other ways, and the odds are the even.
That would be faster paced (not rolling all day, or almost forced to have a million side bets going), more exciting and tense... whilst keeping the same numbers and stuff as the original game.
So the first half is the same, double the odds for one roll for the shooter. Then in the second half, you see if you can make it out of the 4-roll pressure cooker alive with the money (or maybe if you rolled something decent, you might win the money before the 4 rolls are done).
I think there is enough incentive to then bet money, but not TOO much incentive.
Gonna have to experiment with it.

    • @tzadiko
      @tzadiko 2 года назад +4

Too long to read, but you're getting it wrong. It's about a 50-50 chance of shooter winning or losing. To be exact, there is actually a tiny advantage of 1.41% for betting against the shooter.
But if you're concluding that there's a huge difference, then you're doing it wrong.
You're right that the shooter has the advantage on the come out roll, but he has an equal disadvantage on the point round so it evens up almost exactly.
I have done the calculation myself and come up with the same result of 1.41%, which is quoted on countless craps websites. Look up Pass Line House Edge.
Since the Pass Line is a little tricky to evaluate on a gut level, almost every craps player has the wrong idea about it and doesn't take full advantage of its low house edge.
I've tried to convince people that if they think Pass is a bad bet, then they should also think Don't Pass is a good bet. But that logic never gets through, and they insist on avoiding both Pass and Don't Pass. 🤷
Another thing that I can't convince people about is the Come bet. Most players hate the Come bet even worse than the Pass bet. My response is (1) how can you hate one more than the other? They are exactly the same. And (2) if you hate the Come bet, why don't you love the Don't Come. Same result... it doesn't get through.
