Over time I have come to develop a great admiration for Mark's style of diving into the details, and talk about the things that most people want and care about. Mark and Arthur got to be the two best Guys for APS-C and all types of Sony Camera reviews out there. Genuinely appreciate all You Do.
Really a tough choice but ZV E1 is like a Lamborghini engine in Suzuki chassis while A6700 is like a descent & well balanced Audi (family crossover suv) which is not the best but is surely dependable & durable for every situation over a longer period of time. I will rather sacrifice for A6700 as my camera as it seems more sensible to me overall when I am going to be dependable on it for next 4-5 years.
For my needs and already owning the a6500 the a6700 is the clear choice for me. I do more photos than videos and I’m not a blogger. The low light performance of the ZV-E1 is far superior than the a6700 (and a6500) but that’s about the only great advantage I see for what I need which can be compensated easily for photos with a flash. At the price difference the a6700 is the clear winner (and I already have APS-C lenses). Thanks for the great comparison. I keep thinking it may be time to upgrade to the a6700 but I think I’ll wait to see what happens with the a7Cii release.
which camera did u pick? i have the a6500 too and i do a lot of video but, photos too. i was thinking about the A6700 for a cheaper option or, A7C II, for fullframe sensor and hybrid fullframe option.
I would say the best bang for the buck is going to be the ZV E10 ii...however now im going for the a6700, with 4k60 better rolling shutter and weather sealing..dont need the EVF but maybe i will learn to love it
Kudos to you for your very great and very practical, and no-nonsense, no-BS, reviews! Also like the 1080p comparisons, as ironically enough, especially with Sony there are many cameras (basically all their previous APS-Cs, including the ZV-E10) where the 1080p is pure soft undetailed garbage (a 720p or 540p upsampled digitally to 1080p size). Compare that to the Panasonic S5 (or other, or M43 Panasonics) or to some Fujis, where the 1080p is crystal-clear 1:1 detailed (real detail, not oversharpening). And thus it's nice to know that the a6700 (same as FX30) is decent, and the ZV-E1 is (same as FX3, A7S III; and also the A7 III in this regard) good regarding 1080p detail. Not necessarily Pana S5 good, but good enough maybe.
Good point - I usually don't notice these things but even on my old 1080p pc monitor the 1080p is noticeably soft where Panasonic proves 1080p can be excellent quality. It is like these sensors are designed for 4K natively.
I just got the ZV E1 following the price cut in the U.K. My goodness, coming from APSC the image is stellar. S Cinetone straight out of camera, no messing, beautiful. Unit definitely has a more filmic look a smaller sensor cannot capture. Worth every penny so far, the low light is fantastic and the autofocus, I had it on insect and it was tracking a small bee even in flight. Filming for 2 hours today, not continuous but a lot of footage and camera on nearly all the time, 4k 30 10 bit and it didn’t even feel hot. I’m perplexed by the cases of people saying it’s shutting off just on menus- defective units?
Air flow - a reviewer that experienced overheating in his studio said there was no overheating while traveling in S Africia in 100F temps and he attributed that to always being outside with a breeze. When (if) I get the ZV-E1 I'll add a fan that goes where the screen goes - my brother did that with his A74 works great and allows the camera to be left on (idle) for long video shoots like dance performances.
I personally do a lot of travel vlogging (mainly for others) & I shoot in bursts so the overheating was never a concern of mine - I'm also coming from my ZV-E10 & I prefer the ease of use during this learning curve of truly understanding my camera & I feel like a camera targeted at "Gen Z" dedicated for vlogging just makes the most sense. Most of the benefits the A6700 offers are photography based & I do more video than photo, so it was a clear win for me. The only downside is the price + lenses, it's gonna be tough finding good quality used FF lenses, but I love that B&H has a payment plan for purchases so I'll definitely go that route for anything too crazy. Love the channel though, keep up the amazing work.
Thanks Mark, been waiting for this "specific" comparison and the stabilisation tests. What I understood from another source is that on ZV-E1, for DAS, it upscales from 2.94K to 4K, but as you said, there was no perceivable loss. But I guess, your comparison pushed me really towards A6700.
Thank you Mark for another flawless presentation! Especially for a low light sensitivity test. ZV-E1 performance is so impressive! My little zv-e10 definitely needs a big brother now ツ
mark, thanks for this review. you’re one of my top RUclipsrs when it comes to this stuff. i’m a photographer first & do not really vlog nor video. but i have the zv-e1 for the past half year, and it’s my choice for indoor selfies when using the sony GP-VPT2BT shooting grip; better selfies than any smartphone. i have the iPhone 15 pro max. it’s also my choice (versus my canon R6) for day trips. i am considering buying the 6700 for my son, but that’s another story. thx again.
You’re absolutely correct. Both cameras a great, but if I had to choose just one of the two, the it would be the a6700. I already own the ZV-E10, and I’ve purchased several APS-C lenses to go with it. The a6700 would be a significant upgrade from my E10, plus, I don’t have to buy more glass. As always, great video. 🍻
Great video. I own the ZV-E1 and have been impressed by the quality of the sensor. Thinking of picking up the a6700 as a small hybrid camera for travel, photo and video. While I’m in the Sony ecosystem, I’ve also been quite interested in the Fuji X-S20. Any chance we might get a comparison between the X-S20 and the a6700?
I am so much in between both. I am shooting street, people and producing travel videos with a lot of b-roll. I am currently on a Fuji X100V because its form factor/compactness but i noticed that my video creation increased. I am considering switching to Sony cause its outstanding autofocus and their capabilities to make use of catalyst browse to achieve almost handheld non shaky footage. I am not a pro so i pretend i don’t need full frame but i like the compactness of the ZV-E1 more and also prefer the bigger screen. Another advantage is that the full frame 35mm 2.8 will provide enough bokeh and is truly a tiny setup too. I barely use the EVF on my Fuji. But on the other hand as said i am doing this as a hobby APSC is cheaper. i wish the ZV-E10 II would have IBIS i guess that would be the best choice. As it hasn’t, would you go for ZV-E1 oder A6700?
This is dumb, but the front dial as well as the mode dial for picture, video, and S&Q on the A6700 got me lol. Super simple, but it's little things like this that makes things soooo much easier for me.
Great Sony coverage Mark. I'm wondering if you've noticed any difference in stabilization on the ZV-E1 between Sony and 3rd party lenses. I've got the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 on mine and even at 28mm on dynamic active stabilization it doesn't look as stable as your footage. If it's not the lens maybe your ninja walking classes are paying off?
I want the Sony A6700 because the overheating, the crop and price of the Sony ZV-E1. I feel like the Sony A6700 is almost as good in low light situations and is significantly cheaper.
I ended up getting the A6700. I liked the fact that it was a hybrid and could do both picture and video well. I've had it for 2 months now and have really enjoyed it.
Great video! I’d appreciate if you compare the noice during night between the a6400 and the 6700… I believe the new camera improved a lot for night shooters
You and Diane have me like I could go for either the A6700 or the ZV-E1 and I am seriously torn between the two cameras. I’m deciding now and I’m really torn.
I think for non-pro run n gun street video the ZV-E1 is better not for photos but due to the wider angle of view there is more room for AI auto framing to work and the stabilization and 12MP full sensor readout involves less processing and is more than enough for video. Overheating can be deal with by opening the display and adding a portable fan / heat sync. In studio a small silent fan can be aimed at the camera. Smaller and "slower" f4 lenses can be used do to the sensors iso performance and fake bokeh can be added with the defocus button reducing the need for bigger more $$ heavier f1.4 lenses.
So…for events…overheating is something that you really want to evoid…and simply only for this reason…a6700 is a better choice…or fx30. Also from my experience…i never bring iso more then 12000…in a verry verry bad situation of no light at all…but beople want to make day from night and this is realy degrading the real scene… A verry good comparison and thanks for the work that you are doing.
what is the best full HD video camera up to around 1200€ you would recommend? I see for instance ZV E10's full HD video is way smoother than that of a6700
Great video and it's make me mad there Is no perfect camera because I shot both photos and videos and currently I own a 6600 but I think if I will upgrade I will go for zve1
Thanks for posting the excellent list at 18:22. I had a really hard time finding what the ZV E1 exclusive modes were (although I think product showcase is exclusive as well, right?)
Hi Mark, Can I ask one more question? At 1:27, it appears that the A6700 makes you a bit slimmer / skinnier, even when zoomed in. is this a product of having a smaller focal length, I know that a 16mm is equivalent to a 24mm, but I'm wondering if the person in the middle of a 16mm APSC vs a 24mm Full Frame looks skinnier?
The field of view and distortion should be identical but if you measure the color checker and you will see it is more narrow on the left vs the right. I think the cameras are mounted side by side but if two lenses are being used APS-C & FF they are not an identical focal length. He mentions in 2:20 the lenses are close and check 2:33.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis My guess is they will based on recent release of features in the RV, etc. Sony seems to aggravate via lack of firmware updates rather than Canon-like cripple hammers lol. Curious that it didn't make it into the 6700 but I'll chalk that to just not migrating to APS-C yet. Maybe not enough headroom in the downsampling vs full frame.
You had me with the low light comparison. I have an α6100 which Id like to upgrade and Im mostly into video. Do you know how much cropping is needed when using APSC lenses without active stabilisation on the ZV-E1? Like the Sigma 16mm, will it end up at something equivalent to 24mm or does it have more useable area on the ZV?
nice one Mark! for me I'm going with the a6700 as a B cam - the 1 memory card slot kills me but gonna have to live with it and buy premium cards hoping they don't give out
Really curious on the rate of failure of SD cards. Understandable that a professional would be super freaked in the event it did happen, but what's the chance? 1 in 1000, 10000, 100000? More? Seems so unlikely
Watching this a year later and I have the perfect solution to this dilemma: Buy the two of them!! 😅😅 Which is why I am getting the a6700 in a few days to add to my ZV-E1. The main reason I am getting the a6700 is because I need that mechanical shutter action and ability to sync the shutter for flash speeds (which the ZV-E1 disappointingly cannot do; sync speed for flash on the ZV-E1 is a dismal 1/30s) And I think also the 26 MP and also to find a good fit for my existing APSC lenses. That being said, asides the overheating, I love my ZV-E1 for what it can do. By the way, do you think there's ever gonna be software update that reduces the overheating tendency ever? Or have you found a decent fix for the overheating? Thanks for your videos. Love the sense of humor
I stream on Twitch for about 6-12 hours a day, 5 days a week. Always stream at night and my AC vent is directly above my PC desk setup, so I’m debating on which camera I should get
Mark Bennett's, you're doing something wrong. Take the a6700 1080 from this zv-e1 comparison video and compare it to the 6700 1080 in the zv-e10 comparison video. The 1080 from the zv-e10 comparison is much better compared to this current video. How do you explain this?
You’re right - the original video in the zv-e10 video must have had an error - I tripled checked and the metadata still says it is 1080, but it is clearly too sharp to be 1080. It must have been 4K even though the metadata says it is not. The 1080 in this video is correct and the one you should judge it from. I’m going to cut it from the other video.
Would the 11 mm on ZVE1 have better bokeh than using it on A6700? Does an APSC lens on full frame only have the same quality as on APSC camera? Looked nicer on ZVE1, but just a bit. I bought the ZVE1 this week. The 11 mm isn’t vignetting. I think it went into APSC mode. Someone said the camera didn’t have APSC mod.
Everyone thinks you have to shoot Full Frame to be a pro but the woman who documents Christopher Nolan films among other things is shooting with a 5 year old Fujifilm camera. I think I’d get the 6700 if I was starting over for 6k sensor with the ability to crop with photography.
the 16mm 1.4 at 1.4 for a6700 and the zv-e1 with the 24mm GM 1.4. they are extremely comparably in quality - I’ve done many tests with them, but of course I’m doing this on my own so there is some variation in where I am standing. The zv-e1 will have a blurrier background as I explained in the video
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thank you, fantastic video! - I'm torn between the two :) - I still have my Fuji X-S10 for photos so I don't care so much about megapixels/mechanical shutter. The ZV-E1 is appealing, but the overheating is putting me off.
Hi Mark, Me again. Wondering if you could help me understand something, I've tried looking it up extensively but I can't seem to get enough information to make me believe I have a confident answer. Can the ZV-E1 record in 12-bit raw? Or is this one of the differences between the A7Siii and the ZV-E1 ?
Thank you@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis ! Can I ask one more question? At 1:27, it appears that the A6700 makes you a bit slimmer / skinnier, even when zoomed in. is this a product of having a smaller focal length, I know that a 16mm is equivalent to a 24mm, but I'm wondering if the person in the middle of a 16mm APSC vs a 24mm Full Frame looks skinnier?
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Don't you think I should buy a Blackmagic 2.5K? I know it's old but I want to know your opinion as I think you can recommend me a better option.
Are you using 180 shutter rule on the Stabilization tests? My concern is that there will be more artifacts when there’s motion blur. Is the reason I could use catalyst browse, it always looked bad
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis 🫡 no wonder the handsomeness was extra smooth, thanks! I’m shooting my paid gigs with LUMIX S5II and absolutely love it, but am looking to get something compact for travel/personal use, it’s going to be between one of theses two bad boys, so just the video I needed 🤓
Greeat comparison! I'm intending to get a A6700 to replace either my ZV-E10 or my A6400... ❗I'm a bit worried about overheating issues tho... Have you ever experienced any of this with the A6700? Most of the time it's around 30~35°C in here 😂 And sometimes I've got to record some long clips (40~80 minutes - mainly in 4k 24/30p). - That being said, I've never had any issues with the 6400 nor with the zv-e10... Do you know if the A6700 overheats faster than these?
The a6700 is a more powerful camera so will likely overheat faster than those two. If you’re shooting at 30+ degrees for 40+ minutes,I would get the fx30
I'm a person who do both photos & videos just for fun. Does the 6700 photos have better quality or the ZVE1, since it's 26mp aspc vs 11mp fullframe. I know for video only, the zve1 win the battle, but to do both, its so hard to decide. Note : i dont really care much about the viewfinder.
the zv-e1 takes excellent photos. unless you’re printing large or cropping a lot, you won’t have an issue. You still get that fantastic full frame look with that shallow depth of field if you want it. Sonce you don’t care about the viewfinder and it’s for fun, I would lean toward the zv-e1.
Thanks man, you rock. I just subcribe to your youtube channel recently and learn like a bunch of new things. One of the best ever.@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
Does the A6700 wobble in the corners like the corners when using the 11mm like the ZV-E10? I didn't see any in your test with the 15mm but just wondering if there would be a difference with a wider lens.

ZV for (pro-vlog) video, A67 (and a few lenses for the price of ZV) for a regular people.
Thanks for adding 1080p tests. It's so helpful!
The color rendition and quality of the ZV-E1 is so great and true to life.
Thanks for these thorough comparisons with the A6700--super helpful in making a (still-difficult) decision. Appreciate the work you do.

Thanks for posting the excellent list at 18:22. I had a really hard time finding what the ZV E1 exclusive modes were (although I think product showcase is exclusive as well, right?)
Same here, we need an all product chart - never seen so many models from Sony at once.
I can get a zv e1 for 1800$ usd brand new. I guess thats a pretty good deal even when compared to the a6700?
it is a good deal for sure
The larger sensor image will always have more internal contrast and resolution , more dynamic range , look more real !
It does have some advantages for sure
Hi Mark,
Can I ask one more question? At 1:27, it appears that the A6700 makes you a bit slimmer / skinnier, even when zoomed in. is this a product of having a smaller focal length, I know that a 16mm is equivalent to a 24mm, but I'm wondering if the person in the middle of a 16mm APSC vs a 24mm Full Frame looks skinnier?
The field of view and distortion should be identical but if you measure the color checker and you will see it is more narrow on the left vs the right. I think the cameras are mounted side by side but if two lenses are being used APS-C & FF they are not an identical focal length. He mentions in 2:20 the lenses are close and check 2:33.
Thank you for your review. I have noticed that you didn't compare the autofocus. Is one camera better than the other one ?
I want the ZVE1 even though I have the A7IV. I have GAS so bad.
literally same
everyone does.
What is better, a hammer or a screwdriver? It depends on what you want them for.
It really does
Wonder what the chances are that Sony throws in dynamic stabilization into the A7CII, or will they maintain it as the unique draw of the E1.
That's a good question.
Do Dinamic stabilization on zv-e1 gave good results in low light?
You had me with the low light comparison. I have an α6100 which Id like to upgrade and Im mostly into video. Do you know how much cropping is needed when using APSC lenses without active stabilisation on the ZV-E1? Like the Sigma 16mm, will it end up at something equivalent to 24mm or does it have more useable area on the ZV?
It blows my mind that Sony didnt put a ZOOM ROCKER on the a6700 model . It was included even on A5100!!
Do low light and dynamic range test of Sony zv e1 vs A7iv vs a6700
Mark your videos are super cool and entertaining I have started calling zv-e10 Dougie now. I actually referenced you in my latest video, thank you
How does the Sigma 16mm works with Sony stabilization? 7:45
Thank you for doing the jogging test! Could I expect same stabilization on a6700 + sigma 16mm?
it won’t be as good with the sigma because the stabilization works best with Sony native lenses
Is the 1080p recording sharper than on the zv-e10? Because i feel like Sony 1080p doesnt look pretty good, at least on my zv-e10.
Excelente video 👏
I appreciate the running vlogs. Excellent effort!
Now if you could just get your wife to film a BTS view of that... 😁
She’s too busy laughing
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis😂
nice one Mark! for me I'm going with the a6700 as a B cam - the 1 memory card slot kills me but gonna have to live with it and buy premium cards hoping they don't give out
Really curious on the rate of failure of SD cards. Understandable that a professional would be super freaked in the event it did happen, but what's the chance? 1 in 1000, 10000, 100000? More? Seems so unlikely
Really if it's a B cam that runs for a longer time, get a FX-30
제대로 된 비교네요... a6700 은 크롭바디 , E1은 풀프레임 가격은 100만원이나 차이가 난다. 영상 사진 비교는 거의 차이가 없네요... 렌즈 운영면에서는 풀프레임이 좋은데...
Will you do a comparison video for the a6700 to the older A7C?
yes
And oh yeah, also the weather-sealing. With the ZV-E1 when I look outside and its raining, I am sad.😔😔
This is the way 🤣
I stream on Twitch for about 6-12 hours a day, 5 days a week.
Always stream at night and my AC vent is directly above my PC desk setup, so I’m debating on which camera I should get
6-12 hours a day - I would get the FX30. That level of streaming would be much better off with a fan but in

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks for explaining
Hi Mark can you recommend a small gimbal for a Sony ZV1M2? Thx😊
yes - the crane m2s is great. amzn.to/3vrTmLu
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thank you and Happy New Year. I have a Action 4 and I'm going to order the Sony.
Una maravilla!!
Everyone thinks you have to shoot Full Frame to be a pro but the woman who documents Christopher Nolan films among other things is shooting with a 5 year old Fujifilm camera. I think I’d get the 6700 if I was starting over for 6k sensor with the ability to crop with photography.
This is so good 👍
Hi Mark, is there a Lumix S5ii vs ZV-E1 comparison in the pipeline?
They are very different - But I will look into it
Excelente camara
What lenses and apertures were you using for your side by side tests? - what is the total weight comparison with comparable lenses on both system?
the 16mm 1.4 at 1.4 for a6700 and the zv-e1 with the 24mm GM 1.4. they are extremely comparably in quality - I’ve done many tests with them, but of course I’m doing this on my own so there is some variation in where I am standing.
I have a Lumix s5 iix from the sony a7 IV. If you include the FX30, which one of these three would you pair with the Lumix? Thank you :)
FX30 probably
Excelente video genial 🆗😸
I'm really torn with these 3, A7IV vs ZVE1 or a 2nd hand A7SIII
So tough for sure. But for video only - the a7siii will likely give you everything you need
Hi Mark, what is your detail level setting (sharpness) on the Sony cameras?
in s-log 3 -7 and I sharpen in post. In Standard profiles I leave the default 0
superb 🥳
Hi Mark,
Me again. Wondering if you could help me understand something, I've tried looking it up extensively but I can't seem to get enough information to make me believe I have a confident answer.
Can the ZV-E1 record in 12-bit raw? Or is this one of the differences between the A7Siii and the ZV-E1 ?
This is a difference yes - the ZV-E1 does not have the ability to record raw over external output like the A7SIII
Hello, I want to buy a camera for a music video, what is your suggestion? a6400 or ZVE10 or R50 or Z30 or Z50 or you suggest me another camera thanks❤
The ZV-E10 would be my pick
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Don't you think I should buy a Blackmagic 2.5K? I know it's old but I want to know your opinion as I think you can recommend me a better option.
Are you using 180 shutter rule on the Stabilization tests? My concern is that there will be more artifacts when there’s motion blur. Is the reason I could use catalyst browse, it always looked bad
I was doing 180, yes. 1/50 for all shooting 24p
Hi, Mark. How much crop in Active Stab on A6700? Is it the same crop on ZV-E10?
it is only 10% on the a6700. it is much larger on the zv-e10 (about 40%)
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis great! Thank you Mark
if you're going for a cinematic look, ZV-E1 is the answer.
Which one do you prefer Mark?
I personally use the ZV-E1 a lot more. I'm a video guy and it's amazing for video
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Amazing! thank youuu! Keep up the great work!!!
For longer video keep the zv-e10, problem solved.
What are your thoughts on the ZV-E1 vs the ZV-E10? I’ve been set on the e10 for a while and I’m getting ready to purchase but now I’m torn.
Or the 6700 vs the e10
I’m did a whole code on the ZV-E10 Vs th a6700 just a few days ago. check that one out 👍
zv e10 at $599 or a7mk2 at 799, which one is a better value at the price?
for video the zv-e10 - for photos, the autofocus on the a7ii isn’t as good - but the quality can be better in the a7ii if you use the camera well
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thank you :) Cheers apple juice :D
Does the A6700 wobble in the corners like the corners when using the 11mm like the ZV-E10? I didn't see any in your test with the 15mm but just wondering if there would be a difference with a wider lens.
No it doesn’t wobble with the 11 - you can see it in my a6600 review
