    You're pretty handy, how about building a trailer the way you want it? Maybe start with a cargo / box trailer and go for it. You could do a lot with a 6x12 trailer.

      So they have places like "The Van Build" and all sorts of nomadic gatherings in the desert during winter months and it looks like a great community and they all help each other with their builds. A quality trailer would only be a few thousand dollars (USD) and you could build one out to your spec with actual home furnishings that would be a lot more durable. Insulate it to your needs, wire it to your needs etc...

    • @kevink8765
      @kevink8765 5 лет назад +1

      @@SlimPotatohead I'll bet someone as handy as you could get a basic trailer frame, rough out a basic teardrop trailer and modify it as you go on the road. Or start with a basic teardrop, something like Primal Outdoors trailer from drifter trailers and modify it as desired (I have no association with Primal Outdoors or Drifter Trailers other than also watching the Primal videos.)

    • @johnseymour5223
      @johnseymour5223 5 лет назад +2

      I was going to suggest that as well so I second the Idea. Slim would probably come up with something unique and very interesting to watch. Also they are better constructed than most travel trailers. I want a cargo trailer to convert to a "Bunkie" for a guest room at the cabin. and possibly use myself sometimes as a weekender.

Your current travel setup is awesome, but there are other low-impact, frugal, & minimalist ways to travel, as well. Long distance travel via Amtrak or even Greyhound, with easily transported kit including backpacking gear & maybe a bicycle or electric bicycle for transportation when you arrive. Modern nomadic lifestyle. The opportunities are endless. Looking forward to your next chapter!

    Tip: a homemade fine mesh chicken wire sleeve that goes on top of the stove pipe works great as a spark arrestor.

      How about a flapper trap like a tractor. Keep out rain

    • @CriticalRoleHighlights
      @CriticalRoleHighlights 5 лет назад

      They work because there's a lot of force pushing the flapper open every time you give it revs. A wood stove has a constant flow of low-pressure exhaust and will most likely not be able to push with enough force to open it. Add to that, you need the pipe completely open when you start a fire or you'll smoke yourself out of your trailer, which means you'd have to keep the flapper open anyway.
      He could just take a cheap galvanized pipe cap and wrap chicken wire around it as well. Add to that, rain is really only an issue when you're not running your stove since the heat will instantly turn it into steam. Heck, a 90 degree pipe at the top with a 45 degree angle cut would stop the rain as well.

    Slim, I watch your videos to share your adventures and see a bit of the world through your eyes. Your trailer and your DIY mods have been interesting but they are not, IMO, the key to what makes your videos interesting. It is your storytelling ability that I most appreciate. Your honest description of your ideas, experiments, and experiences are what make it seem like I am coming along for the ride rather than just getting a canned report. I would welcome your sharing your new adventures, wherever and however they take you. Please just don't radically change your honest storytelling style.

    Your supposed to light the packaging on the fire starter, not open it up and break it apart. The paper wrapping starts the block.

      I've done both ways. Breaking it up makes it last longer. It's great for starting damp wood that needs a little help.

      A friend of mine gets a hatchet and breaks up a full size log. Then wraps the chunks in newspaper. Not ideal for a wood stove in a trailer but that's what he does for his home fireplace

    And that’s the difference between a Canadian and an American.
    Canadian sees bear prints... no big deal. Hears gun fire... becomes concerned.
    An American hears gun fire... no big deal. Sees bear prints... becomes concerned. 😱

      Think a lot depends on where the American lives. In Montana, Alaska, here in the California Sierra, bear, cougar tracks outside our place are the norm, as are hearing gun fire since we hunt. It's the two legged animal that can cause us problems.

    You have entered that sweet spot on viewership, where you can do other things and most will follow. I have been trying to build my channel for several years now and although I enjoy doing hiking videos my viewership is mostly in the A frame mods. So enjoy the fruits of your labor and do new things, I hope to also do new things on my channel once I get more viewers.

      Hi Slim, have you thought about buying a cargo trailer and converting into your own camper? You seem to be pretty resourceful and talented with making stuff, it would make for a great video series as well. Also since your Aframe is pretty much done for, you could always salvage components off of it and use it in a conversion camper, such as the windows, door, bed, counter, etc. Just a thought. Anyway I really enjoy watching your videos, you re a free spirit and an inspiration .Cheers.
