THE MARNER MOVE 🏒

- Learn Marner's nasty breakaway move he used in the 2021-2022 season to score a beauty shorthanded goal.
To the casual fan it might not have looked like much, but hockey players know how difficult that edge work is to pull off at top speed. The mohawk "skip step" Marner used not only helped him protect the puck from the defender, but it also seemed to freeze the goalie allowing him to fire in a backhand goal.
Steve shows us a number of edge work warm-up drills we can use to help us get the edge work needed to pull it off, then breaks down the Marner breakaway move at the end of the video.

Steve's edge work is elite. Always continually pushing out excellent + free content. The "mohawk" is so underrated and kids need to realize it teaches about the use of inside and outside edge work. And if you want to be more relevant; watch McDavid, MacKinnon, Crosby if you ever want to see how important inside/outside edge work translates into elite skating in the NHL
this guys skating is absolutely elite. "okay, lets go"
Steve skates sooo smooth
I used these moves back in the day high school 2002. When I saw Cale Makar use it top speed at the Pepsi center it put a smile on my face. A couple weeks ago he went end to end with a little mohawk action. Makar the offensive minded Dman is fun to watch.
Steve, you're amazing, I love your videos. You explain the moves so clearly, and your demonstrations (especially your skating) are incredible.
So smooth
Great move. Going straight into my practice book. Kids are going to love this move. Add a clean deke to the right at the beginning of the move to move the defender's stick to the right side will create lots of room to go around. I like it. Just need to practice a bit before I show the kids. Great stuff as always!
This really cool! You can really see his style, and your skill, in your breakdown of these moves
Sick breakdown!
Your balance and edges are insane
Thoughts and prayers for my sprained ankle 😂 this is a tease!
😂
i wish coaches taught mohawks more when i was a kid. its such a popular technique now
The Marner move is banking the puck off the roof during a crucial playoff game.
Steve 🤩 the best!
Wow, incredible. You are such a smooth skater.
I am going to do this for one of my practices
Brilliant
Can't wait to do this on the ice
Okay? Let’s go!
It's crazy I was doing this move when I was about 13 years old . I'm 40 now..I played as far as Junior Hockey ..tremendously heart and talent ..just had wild side of me that got me in a lot trouble..not a day that goes by that I don't live with some regret. But hey, I'm alive, I have 4 amazing boys and a wife.
Wow
Amazing skills ! Marsblade holder ? how does it feel ?
Ok? Let's go.
I had hockey camp there iss in London ontario
This the Crosby move.
I've never seen Crosby do it quite like this on a breakaway, but he is the OG of the Mohawk

I can't get my feet like that to do mohawk on the outside edges.

Would love to see some Kaprizov focused videos, so creative with his skating
My hips hate me when I try to mohawk. Fuck that guy, j/k. 😂. Love this guy btw.
Thought this was gonna be a tutorial on how to shoot the puck over the glass. Disappointed.
