    The reduction of the size of the “claws” makes this a much more appealing case without loosing the “nod to history” of why they existed. And the time zone jumping hour hand is a nice reference to the trans global aircraft which was this watches namesake 😉👍.

    After watching this vid a year ago I had a lot of affection for this watch. While on vacation I stopped in a boutique and tried on the new speed master. I so wanted to love the new speedy… I didn’t. While talking to the sales person she said I have a new constellation in the back. It’s new white ceramic dial with blue strap. Why don’t I show it to you.
    That’s all it took for me. I love my constellation.

    Genta meets Grand Seiko! Surprisingly nice - I'm not normally a fan of the Connie and it's 'mirror clasps' but they are toned down here, as you say. I'm surprised they have yet to create a bracelet as the market for this type of watch is very bracelet leaning, though I like the strap.

    Thank you Alexander. Very nice presentation. Dial is really nice, almost meteor like. Is it the construction of the coaxial that makes things on the thicker side? Not sure why it’s thicker then the aqua terra, but maybe it is the bezel that seems to be straighter with a crystal that comes over the edge. Resistance to 15,000 Gauss is very impressive and it looked very sharp on the wrist. I think however the aqua terra grey blue or green dial would be my pick to have the 8900 movement. On the rubber they are awesome, and I like to have the option of swimming with my watch. Omega is definitely doing some good things these days adding a lot of variety.

    I very much appreciate the redesign of the Constellation. The case is more streamlined now, has the sloped profile of the Globemaster, and it has more elegant handset and indices. I prefer the 39mm model released in the same 2020 year, though one thing I don't like is that the center links on the newly designed bracelet do not taper with the bracelet this creating a confusing and unbalanced look.
    The Constellation 41 is a really nice watch but that 14mm thickness is too much for a 3 handed 50m water resistant watch, and the evidence of that is the Seamaster 300 Professional being a diver with a rotating bezel with 300m water resistance in a 13.7mm thick package. If I had to make an educated guess, the 5.5mm height of the 8900 movement is what makes this new Constellation so thick.

    • @WatchAdvisor
      @WatchAdvisor  3 года назад

      @@WatchAdvisor Alexander I agree that a thicker movement means a more robust and long lasting movement, but at what end does a movement becomes too thin to a point it becomes physical and mechanically compromised? We can compare this watch to the ROLEX Explorer 39 which has a 5.37mm thick movement. Close to the thickness of the 8900 caliber housed inside the Constellation 41 but the Explorer case still manages to stand thinner at 11mm in height with 100m of water resistance.

    Once again a great review Alexander. Thank you.
    That dial looks fantastic as the light moves around it, the non intrusive roman numerals on the bezel are also very well executed. The general finish looks also up to the expected standard of this watch. I completely agree the 'claws' are much better on this model than some others over the years. The METAS certification is also definitely a good mention given we are surrounded by things that are creating magnetic fields (sounds like a good title for a music album from an acclaimed French electronics musician). I do have a few thoughts why this watch does not make my ever changing shortlist though at the moment, not all watches on my shortlist are ever purchased but it's nice to have the list.
    Looks wise the strap looks great and is very well done however you would be restricted to Omega replacement bands so choice would be limited.
    5 Bar water resistance is fine, but I have an old METAS certified Pie Pan Globemaster 130.33.39.21.03.001 with the same 8900 movement and no screw down crown that is 10 bar and similar dimensions. Maybe it's the case construction differences. Not a deal breaker but I guess I prefer my old Globemaster. On a personal note I think the constellation should also have the old observatory medallion represented on the case back even though no one will give a pair of dingo's kidneys if it's not present as they will not see it.
    In summary.
    - Do I like like watch? absolutely
    - Would I consider purchasing this watch? I guess I would but there are other watches that are higher on my list
    - Do I like the 8900 quick hour change v quick date change. Quick hour change to cycle the date wins for me, really useful when travelling and not having to reset the time. As shown you can move backward the date also.
    - The band clasp is a mechanical dream I have the same mechanism on my old Pie Pan leather band.

    • @WatchAdvisor
      @WatchAdvisor  3 года назад +1

      Anthony, thanks for sharing your with us! Very interesting!! The 50 meters water resistance are not top, yes... But in daily live & use absolutely sufficient, also due to the fact that the cases are tested for much more to absolutely guarantee these 50 meters... 100 meters would have meant a bigger and thicker case...

    Great looking dial, but at 14 mm thick I‘ll pass. I‘ve never really liked the Constellation in the past, but this version does look really good. But I can‘t get over the thickness. In general, watch companies really need to reduce the thickness of modern watches.

    • @WatchAdvisor
      @WatchAdvisor  3 года назад

      Reducing thickness means losing quality ... Thin movements look good, but clearly offer a poorer “mechanical” quality ... If you don’t make compromises in quality that’s the way to go... You have to try the watch on your wrist to find out that the size is ok ...

    • @cedshred1676

      @@WatchAdvisor I disagree that reducing thickness = decreasing quality. Habring2 Felix 7 mm, GO Sixties 9.4 mm, JLC Polaris 11.2 mm, Rolex Yachtmaster 16622 11.6 mm, even the Tudor Blue Bay diver is only 11.9 mm. @@WatchAdvisor If you own one watch then it is not important, but if you own a collection of watches then not having a quick date change is painful. On average, you have to do about 30 full rotations of the hour hand to set the date correctly when you decide to wear the said watch. At least it is better than the older style (still found on watches from some brands, such as Nomos), for which you have to go back to 9pm and then past midnight to advance one day.

      It does not look anything like meteorite. I actually preferred the black sunburst dial by quite a bit when I purchased my 39mm Constellation, though the white-gold hands, indexes, and markers of that version made probably the biggest difference; they looked really beautiful in combination with the back dial.

      it's just personal.
      IF you wear it everyday, you don't have problem.
      But for people have many watches to rotate,
      if you didn't wear it for a week, you will need to rotate the hour hands 14 turns in order to get the right date.
      Not to say if you didn't wear it for more than a week.
      I could only ignore the date when I wear my GS GMT as it's extremely painful.
