- Tommy "The Duke" Morrison (24-0, 20 KOs) vs. James "Quick" Tillis (38-17-1, 29 KOs) in a heavyweight bout scheduled for eight rounds at the Trump Taj Mahal (Mark G. Etess Arena) in Atlantic City, New Jersey. January 11th, 1991.
Morrison was an amazing fighter. Very exciting. Amazing left hook!
Morrison actually did do a damn good acting job in Rocky V for someone that wasn't an experienced actor.
The left hook King,The late great Tommy Morrison,RIP.Much Respect.
SSG.Michael Fox Williams The left hook king is joe Frazier, Frazier took Ali’s 0 and knockdown second-prime Ali twice.
Frazier's left hook was better
Absolument !
No Tommy was bigger faster stronger and quicker than Joe Frasier. Tommy's left hook was superior by far. The ones who says Joe's was better must be smoking some really good stuff.
@@bobbihill3569 Fraziers hook was more consistent and violent,he could hit you with it over and over where as Morrison would stop throwing his if he was out of gas
Humble dude..R.I.P. Tommy Morrison 🇺🇸
morrison was a destroyer
Rip Tommy
He was and still is such an inspiration to me I'll never forget him
He was down a couple of times in the ring and in life but always came back
Especially the girl he would brick in, they definitely hot taken out
@@Andy-we6hg¹ v😢😮
5 years before this fight, Tillis went the distance with Mike Tyson. In this fight, he gets knocked out by Morrison in the first. The boxing world is an interesting place.
Boxing is a tough sport man !
@@theinformationbomber7102 It sure is. Women and men who engage in combat sports are different type of people. They have a lot of bravery and physical prowess. I think that they have much more than the average person. 👍
@@KrazeeClark you replied 7 years later well I didn't expect that but tilis was washed up here and he was fully motivated when he fought mike the thing with Mike was that he was only 19 and it was still his 20th pro fight in the same year so it was exhausting for him but still he won comfortably and it was a pretty good fight
tilis came to fight and wasn't intimidated
They fought two different fighters, "Quick" was already on three losing fight streak when he fought Tyson, and 22 losses in Morrison fight. His last best win was against washed up Earnie Shavers, in 82'. At least in Tyson fight and before he fought with grit and decent skill. After that he was clubfighter at best.
Damn we miss you Tommy... TCB
The greatest left hook in heavyweight history! Period.
It was really a thing of beauty; the speed, compactness, and power all in one, and could be thrown at any angle.
horseshit!
No... Period
Tremendous punching power. Awesome.
Morrison could have been up there with the best of them, RIP Tommy !
@UMBRELLA CORPORATION he was a notch just below the best
@UMBRELLA CORPORATION Tommy beats Wilder.
El Jefe nah
He was
@@jshxdx2886 Tommy would have knocked Wilders head off his shoulders in the first round. Deontae Wilder was a power house, no doubt, but that was pretty much the only thing he had going for him, while he was still an active fighter;
Don’t get me wrong, I certainly wouldn’t wanna piss the man off.
That being said, his skill level was the equivalent of Razor Ruddock in his heyday.
Morrison could easily step inside Wilders long looping windmill punches, and counter with a flurry of devastating liver shots.
Causing Wilder to gasp and drop his hands.
Then Tommy caves in the side of his skull with one of those savage left hooks.
Wilder gets lucky if he manages to catch Morrison with one of those right hands.
However, a prepared Morrison would have most likely beaten Wilder to the punch.
Early Tommy Morrison was one tough customer, ROCKY movie was huge distraction from real goal, RIP Champ !
im glad I witnessed the 80s and 90s great heavyweights rip
Lucky. I am witnessing this era which I am grateful but it is nothing compared to the 80s/90s
I'll never forget we were speculating on what was going to happen in this fight.. My Dad(RIP) said "OK now Tommy is gonna cream him.. You know why? Cause he's related to The Duke!" After the fight he said "You see!!"
Nice story kid.God bless u
Simply the best. The sad story of a very talented boxer. The best left hook.
Morrison did what Tyson could not...knock out Tillis. In fact I thought Tillis should have gotten the decision over Tyson.
Ur fucken jokeing right tyson beat him to the punch and dropped him in the 4th but tillis showed heart and a great chin and was Acctually able to come into a fight in top shape morrison didnt beat anyone that wasnt washed up
He was also lost to Bruno. How was Bruno vs Tyson????
RIP to you in heaven Tommy .I hope your giving some boxing lessons to some newbies , as well as meeting and talking with all the best of boxing champions .
His right uppercut was also deadly
Yes it was!!
Much has been said about Morrisons power which he definitely had but he also had very fast hands. Great speed.
Tommy was always fun to watch. What a stud.
pure power in that left
With a combined record amateur/pro 343-24-1 with 315 KO's. Tommy was one of the best boxers from that era in time. RIP champ!
I've watched all of Tommy's fights that were televised, and this was probably his sharpest effort. Flawless against Tillis, who was a better journeyman than you'd think (he once beat an aging Earnie Shavers and went the distance with Tyson).
TheRmm 1976. Yes Tommy was tremendous that night. Aside from that flawless KO, he didn't even get hit once. He was perfect in this one.
tommy morrison and mike tyson are the best boxing champions of all ages
This is amazing, just to think the 350x 3 wheeler I have was not even made yet at this time and it still runs like it did then is crazy lol
STALLONE WOULD'VE BEEN HEARTBROKEN OVER THE LOSS OF TOMMY MORRISON, AS AM I#RIP WARRIOR/LEGEND👍👍👍
I sure miss fighters like tommy and tyson. The power, the charisma, the excitement of those events hasn't been matched for me. A tyson exhibition in 2021 proved it. 90s heavyweight boxing was so good.
Morrison is a credible knock out fighter ..
Tillis went the distance against Mike Tyson. This version of "Quick" Tillis was nowhere near as good as he was against Tyson. Of course Morrison's left hook was tremendous back then.
Rip champ
he died way too young..
That's what happens when you choose a self destructive lifestyle
@@TheJpep2424 well not all the time
The power of that last shot almost knocked him sideways, what power.
How many years was this after Tillis fought Tyson ? Tillis took a lot of hits by Tyson. Tommy nailed him early on and down he went. Just wondering.
Tyson vs Tillis 1986. Morrison vs Tillis 1991
RIP "Duke"
Props to Tillis to have the heart to keep getting up...
Def my fav fighter
Hard to believe Tillis took Tyson all 10 rounds when Iron Mike was in his prime. Tillis was the first boxer Tyson could not KO. And Morrison destroyed him in 1'52" !
Tillis was older and not in his Prime for this fight but impressive show by Tommy none the less.
Gees - if there could ever have been a fight for the ages in this time period that didn't happen... Tyson v. Morrison 🙌
Too bad, so sad 😞
It was a pleasant surprise to see Tommy talking about Stallone and Rocky V before the fight. Great upload.
Tillis was 0-8 against top 10 heavyweights, but when he was up for it,he was a very good fighter.
Thought he only lost three fights total.
@@dicktracy762 Morrison yes 3,Tillis lost 22.
Besides being able to swat, Tommy had the best lookin trunks in the business! 🥊
This is a point of Tommy's boxing career where he really beefed up. The time between the fight with Mike Robinson and this one, he gained close to 20 lbs., in a span of about 18 months.
Miss you man
My his soul rest in peace .Tommy had power when he hit right it was all over..
RIP Tommy Morrison !
thank you!!!
Left hook master The Duke Tommy Morrison... We miss you dear...
R.I.P tommy
At this point, tommy was one hell of a specimen. Great shape here.
Tale of tape had Tommy reach at 76in for this fight while his reach was listed as 78in against Pinklon!
thomas! Lol wonder if they kno how to measure?
Well, that was quick!
Tommy Morrison was clearly a bigger hitter than Mike Tyson. Tommy has a significantly higher KO rate, and he KO'ed James Tillis and Donovan Ruddock, and Pinklon much faster than Tyson.
+David Keir
Thomas, Tillis and Ruddock were way past their sell dates by the time Morrison fought them. Tyson beat them when they were live bodies.
It took Morrison 8 rounds to knock out Carl Williams. Tyson knocked him out in 93 seconds. Ah, the selective reasoning.
+Heavyweightboxing Fan Morrison had a bigger left hook than Tyson, but Tyson had a devastating right hand that Morrison couldn't match. And of course, Tyson was a superior overall fighter.
+Heavyweightboxing Fan Yes but again you not looking at the time discrepancy in breaking down things... Tyson fought better versions of both.Ruddock was years past his prime when Morrison struggled with him. Pinklon was ancient and tillis here is nothing like the one from the mid 80's. I wouldn't say theres anything clearly about that statement that either hits harder,Tyson still k.od the better guys.
by tysons 24th fight he had 22 ko's where tommy had 20. mike also fought these guys much younger. i loved tommy as a fighter but his power wasn't on tyson level and his handspeed wasn't even in the same universe. plus mikes right hand could also crush your ribs and break your jaw where tommys right was pretty useless so they knew just to watch for the left which made him more predictable. if you wanna see what a power puncher would do to tommy, watch the ray mercer fight. and mercer wasn't near tysons level. plus tyson had a chin. he had to be worn down the whole fight to get knocked out where again in the mercer fight its apparent morrison didn't have the best chin. plus he was all offense, no defense where mikes bob and weave peekaboo style actually made him tough to hit
Tina Springer Mercer had one of the best chins ever...only Wlad klitchko k.od him with a chin shot and Mercer was older then. Mercer also said Tommy was the hardest hitter he ever fought. Morrison may have poor stamina but hes certainly on Tysons power level. Morrison had a great right uppercut he just rarly used it.Its the same uppercut that buckled Ruddock who said Morrison and Tyson hit about the same.Tyson was just the better fighter all around.
morrison is the best ever
tillis went 10 rounds with tyson
plus 4 more in a hard fought 4 round exhibition match a year later ,a couple of months before Tyson fought Larry Holmes.
As a Tyson fan..i will admit this is 2 opponents Morrison destroyed thar fought Tyson..Tills and Pinklon Thomas..Morrison beat both alot quicker.
@@coryanthony5134 tillis was fat amd washed up and pinklon thimas was washed up when tommy fought them he wouldnt have beat them at their peak
Morrison fought these cats way past their prime. Tyson would destroy Morrison. Sorry Pal.
@Roger Martin pinklon wad aslo badly beaten the 1st rd by tyson and had a nasty cut like he did in his fight morrison
Tommy Morrison annihilated quick Tillis.
this kind of says the Duke punched harder than tyson . Tillis took some heavy punches from tyson. and went 10 rounds
Tommy was a harder puncher for sure. But tyson was a hard puncher who pretty much always through terrific combos which made him deadlier.
Tayson vs. Tomy?????? TOMY TOMY TOMY TOMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yes!
:) :)
wow this was a spectacular performance from Morrison....thum up
Unbelievable talent
The Best of Tommy Morrison !
If Morrison only had a better chin, he would've been unbeatable!
If my momma had balls, she'd be my father.
Yes but also look at his journey... fighting with aids does not help and the mercer fight i am pretty sure it wasn’t about his chin but more about the deadly shots of mercer.. anyone would had fell ..
Is that a Man or a Black punching bag?Mismatch for sure.. RIP TM
Tillis wasn't a bum. He stood 10 full round with Mike Tyson. Winning couple of rounds. He was a hot prospect once.
R.I.P. TOMMY.
Imagine how great Morrison would be if he didn’t ruin himself.
Trump did a lot for boxing and ufc , it’s a shame the way he’s portrayed in the mainstream media now
tillis must've been a bigger fan of ali than I thought, he even mimics the way ali prayed in his corner before his fights 6:27
Bre Fujimoto yes thats right i noticed that he prayed like ali
tommy morrison escel mejor boxeador detodos yo soy fan de el
pues llegas un poco tarde xque murio en 2013.
To put things in perspective. James Tillis took Mike Tyson 12 rounds !!
The Quick Tillis that took Tyson 10 rounds (not 12) in 1986 was five years younger and in better shape though. Still, it is a credit to Morrison's speed, power, and punching accuracy that he was able to dispatch Tillis so quickly. I don't think there were too many other guys who could have done that to him in less than one round even at that point.
If Morrison could have only been as in shape and focus in this fight throughout his career.
I read that in Tillis's book fighting cowboy.
James "Quick to go down" Tillis
James quick Tillis took a prime mike tyson to the 10th round and made tyson look ordinary....sad to see tillis like this.
Truth.
According to whom? Morrison dropped Tillis the first time with a hard, clean hook. Tillis not only got up, but absorbed a few more hard shots without going down before that big right uppercut-left hook combo dropped him a second time. Tillis then got up again to take more punishment. The last punch, which landed, sent him falling off balance along the ropes, but it was the ref who stopped it on the 3KD rule. Tillis didn't outright quit or fake being KO'd and the punches he took were legitimate.
Hmm I didn't know Bill Caton was his manager as well.
Is that why a Tyson fight never happened?
Impresionante
I thought Tillis was from Tulsa Ok
Tommy had pin point accuracy with his punches in this fight. He always hit hard but he was finding the spots in the couple minutes it took him
I often wonder.... if tyson, foreman, Muhammad Ali could have faced this fierce very strong punch of Tommy Morrison????? I know Tommy was a faded fighter when he met Lennox Lewis... but really in this day how many guys would have been nailed like this?
Yes they would
Morrison and Tyson would have been a good match
Q curro... impresionante
Tommy very skill ..and strong
check out his son. tray Morrison. 18-0👍
I like tommy guns too
That's not the same Tillis who went to war with Tyson. Way past it. Had no business in there.
shavers and tyson couldnt do that, tilis is very robust, morrison is a beast, tysoon and shavers hit flush too
Quick tillis is older here and out of shape, but tommy morrison is a tough man, tommy fought great
Tillis was fucken old and fat
You are missed Tommy
So quick as his name
A Morrison like that would have beaten Tyson
Cortez stopped it too soon.
8:05-8:07...…when the ref asks and says "you alright?you'll be all right"....most likely you aren't going to be all right.lol
Strange since tillis went all the way with Tyson. Think it was a bad day for tillis anyhow
If 'recall' serves, it seems that Tillis went the distance with Tyson -maybe he was the first person ever to go the distance with Tyson. THIS "quick"......or shall I say 'uber washed up and SLOW' Tillis doesn't even look like a shadow of a shadow of a shadow of his former self; he ain't got nothin.'
Tommy "The Machine" Gunn has got some good power in both hands -quasi-comparable to Tyson.
Apparently tommy didn't protect himself at all times...cost his life RIP
Wow 17 losses for Tillis going into this bout...he wasnt that quick
Tommy was really good looking. Just saying.
When he was young yes. Had movie star good looks. He lost his looks right quick tho. Looked late 30s by the time he was 27
@@DMAN590 True that. That's what partying heavily done due.
James "Over the Hill" Tillis
yup!
Morrison still dropped Tillis like Ivan Drago dropped Apollo Creed.
Even Tyson couldn’t finish James Tillis.
That’s gotta say something.
Over the hill or not.
WHATS SO AMAZING TILLIS HAD 17 DEFEATS OUT OF WHAT? 20 SOMETHING FIGHTS
No,\. 57 fights.
I CORRECT MYSELF TILLIS HAD 38 FIGHTS WITH 17 LOSSES
Tommy Morrison was ok, not the best and not the worst.
Better than ok, but not a top heavyweight for sure.
That was fun.
