I absolutely love these old B&W series: Mr Wong, Charlie Chan, Mr Moto, Sherlock Holmes, Hitchcock, I could go on & on. Great stories, solid actors, wonderful sets & mood, cars as big as boats, oh the fashions of that age, all in shoe string budgets. What’s not to like?
Thank you my friend for sharing these timeless gems.

I get so much pleasure from these delightful old movies. They are, I suppose by today's standards amateurish and corny and obviously produced on a fairly strict budget but I cannot think of a more pleasant way to pass an hour or so. Today's 2 hour epics are tedious, boring and difficult to watch and enjoy. Thank you so much to whoever has made these films available.

      I also fully agree.
It is just sad to me how many of these great movies are so unknown and underappreciated. Especially series like this, where Boris Karloff does a masterful acting job showing great care and respect for the character.
It is sad to think they likely would never be made today or would be turned into such an action packed flick that so much of the subtleties that make these movies so special would be lost.

I have always loved watching the old black and white movies of the 1930's , 40's and 50's weather they be suspense , comedy, or horror . My favorites are the " who done it mysteries like Holmes, Chan , Mr. Wong, others like them as they really kept you guessing till the very end. So many twists and turns . I'd think " oh he or she did it" untill they would wind up murders in the next scene or so. These are the kind you cannot take a break while watching unless you wait for the commercials or pause them if they are on video! They are getting to scarce on cable or satellite so thank you for making these available.

Street's first name is Sam in at least one Wong film but Bill in others. & in The Fatal Hour Wong says he was only able to help w/past cases due to their association w/the Orient. But in the prior Mr. Wong Detective, zero Chinese/Asian aspect, correct?

Imperial (not emerald) jade is most rare; Ming Dynasty 1368-1644. Original carved pendant shown would reveal that, but it turned into a rough chunk (continuity lapse) joined by other pieces, which could not be identified by a dynasty, thus far less valuable, but still be rare imperial. Have seen all 6 episodes. Sure won't miss Grant Withers. Learned he was once married to Loretta Young and teamed 9 times with Ford/Wayne, ending his career at 54 "so unhappy" per his suicide note.

The fact that there is no super heroes representing gender swinging misfits from Berkeley or Harvard says a lot. A story plot and a battle of virtues. Society is the victim along with some standing persons who have justice in mind. I believe even in our so called modern era we can learn a lot about the human character and values.

Fine actor as he was, I don't think Karloff was right for this role and I find it incredible that audiences would accept that a detective Captain would be allowed to have his girlfriend alongside him on every case -- almost as incredible that RUclips should be allowed to force-feed advertising almost every sixty seconds without one word of protest from its audience.

I love these movies but that girl gets on my nerves. Also couldn't they have gotten someone closer to an Asian to play Wong?

This was 1940. Japan and Germany had already declared war on the future "Allied Powers" in Europe. The US (at least President Roosevelt did) KNEW it wouldn't be long before it, too, was dragged into the conflict and, yes, Mr. Wong was Chinese (the Chinese would later be an ally against the Japanese who had years before invaded their country), he was not Japanese. The US was not as enlightened as it is today (he said sarcastically) and was already weary of people from the Orient-they made no distinction between Chinese and Japanese.

Cute movie, but that detective, screaming at people all the time is very irrating! Ruins the movie.
