Back in the '60s, many of the boys tried to recognize the cars when the new models would come out. They pretty much all looked different from the rest of the cars.
Grant Withers married that cute Me icanbabe you see IN "RIO BRAVO" He was behaving GOOFY and she feared for her life..fled. He continued to worsen until there was no coming back from it. Ugly last years of his life.
The ship burning in the beginning of the fillm was actual footage of the SS Morro Castle in 1934 of Long Beach island. The captain had died the night before and the Chief Officer was in command. The ship lost power quickly and the ship drifted ashore off Asbury Park. The fire burned for 2 days. 135 of 549 passengers and crew members were lost. Ship design and crew deficiencies added to the disaster.
A ship like the Titanic was supposed to be Unsinkable and elegant fillled with a lot of rich people and the people most drowned within a matter of hours. The people on that ship were stuck aboard the ship and for two days while that ship burned and nobody wants to think of people being burned alive they can deal with somebody drowning or freezing to death within hours then being burned to death within a two-day period of time.
@@GypsyRoaddog Can someone explain when Mr Wong sees the Chinese men for answers in that room he meets a young man sitting at the head of the table then when it switches from Mr Wong there is an old man sitting there, then when it finishes the scene again a young man is again sitting at the head of the table. and don't those men do anything except sit at that table ?
I have never been seen Boris Karloff playing in a movie, not even "Nosferatu", or "Frankenstein", BUT I have to say "Thank You" to YOU, Because Of You, I can see what the Real Actor Playin Trurlly Means, Have only Shinny Days, and Goodluck !!!
she was a cutie-love the stylish head wear she and other females in these type of movies always wore. Of course Grant Withers' hat is legendary, just as was his perpetually cranky disposition.
For a father who loved his daughter very much the girl totally seemed unperturbed by her father's death & just bothered with her boyfriend she for once didn't show any interest to catch his killer just wanted to clear the name of her guy strange isn't it ????? But yes on the whole great acting by Boris Karloff.... Enjoyed the film
William Stelling, who played Dick (the young man accused of murder), never had a leading role but appeared in some major movies, including GONE WITH THE WIND, FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT, WUTHERING HEIGHTS, and THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR.
The Mr Moto movies are fun as well. In a few, Number One Son Jimmy Chan shows up when Mr Moto is a guest lecturer and he "helps" Mr Moto as much as he helps his Father LOL. All these movies were great!! I watched with my Dad. Even the old Dick Tracy Movies-Boris Karlof played a bad guy then and was ah-maze-ing!!!!! He never got the credit he deserved for his acting!! From bad guy, to Mr Wong, to The Grinch, and everyone in between!!! He was a very underrated actor!!
Let me get this straight ; a British actor playing a Chinese detective with a police detective who argues with a newspaper reporter while calling themselves helping the Chinese detective who don't need their help to solve the case ? And the whole movie is done el cheapo ?
I didn't care for Keye Luke playing Mr Wong as much as Mr Karloff, Mr Karloff had all his own magic, and Grant Writhers and Marjorie Reynolds and him cutting her feather in her hat was great.
They reused some footage from a previous film. It's still done today, to a certain extent, but since this was made during the war years, it's not surprising.
Not one person has commented on the prominent filming error that starts around 19:30 when Wong sits down with one member of the Tong to talk, and in the next clip, that person is suddenly an old man. Not the best editing! Still love these movies.
I was equally surprised, as I came here to make just that comment. it is because they re-used footage of Mr. Wong consulting with the Tong from "Mr. Wong in Chinatown" (or whichever one had the jade smuggling) for the first part, and then cut to the new actor for the new dialogue.
Never made Mr Wong's acquaintance till this week. Now I've seen four Wong films in four days. I'm not even a fan of this type of mystery but Karloff is fun to watch. Also I like the way Marjorie Reynolds plays Bobbie Nolan. But I'm getting tired of Captain Street. I don't think it's Grant Withers's fault, it's more a matter of how the character is written; he's too easy a foil for Mr Wong. Too bad the series apparently never paired Wong with a really smart cop; it would've been a welcome change.
I always thought Boris Karloff (nee William Pratt) was a tall man ! , but in the Wong series he appears on the short side at least compared to Grant Withers.
at about the 11 minute mark, Question from Grant Withers to the father of the suspect....."Where's you son now?" Answer..."I don't know" reply, "you don't seem very certain about that?" Now my question is how did the the Police Captain (Grant Withers) expect him to be certain about something he didn't know? he is not certain he doesn't know? weird dialogue
ALot of these old movies have LOW volume but not all. There are two series posted that I can barely hear but as near as I can tell only copies out there. Headphones don't work for them.
This is a really good mystery, good humor, acting, and directing. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching! May the Sauce be with you.
Wow! The cars from 1940 and previous years surely had character. Thanks for the posting.
Back in the '60s, many of the boys tried to recognize the cars when the new models would come out. They pretty much all looked different from the rest of the cars.
Boring Karloff was one of my favorite actors and I really enjoy these movies because I had never heard of them thanks so much for sharing
Thanks for posting Im enjoying watching Mr Wong Films
Thanks for watching! May the Sauce be with you.
Grant Withers the great Good cop Bad cop in one! He adds so much to the movies he is in.Be Blessed all watching.
Grant Withers married that cute Me icanbabe you see IN "RIO BRAVO" He was behaving GOOFY and she feared for her life..fled. He continued to worsen until there was no coming back from it. Ugly last years of his life.
Was Googie Withers related to Grant Withers
@@seanh4841I don't think so.
this is a good one! Boris Karloff has class and distinction.
My favorite, police broadcast.....”Calling all cars, calling all cars.. Be on the lockout “......
It's fun to see the same sets used from movie to movie. Monogram didn't waste a cent!
Really fun, and even a bit scary at times. Quite a plot twister. Thanks so much!

Great to be actually learning something while I fritter my life span glued to Boris Karloff. Thank YOU!
I wonder why we continue to hear about the TITANIC, but not of the SS MORRO CASTLE?
@@sandimartinez4879 1500+ died in the Titanic disaster. Numbers count.

Lawrence sounds and LOOKS like he may have been on that ship. I think he needs to be investigated
I just loved the verbal duel between Marjorie Reynolds and Grant Withers
Me too! Right up there with Bogart and Bacall...

Sadly Boris was not in Nosferatu. He was an excellent actor!
Love Marjorie Reynolds. Stunningly beautiful, and she can act too.
she was a cutie-love the stylish head wear she and other females in these type of movies always wore. Of course Grant Withers' hat is legendary, just as was his perpetually cranky disposition.
And sing too
As always I enjoy all of these Charlie Chan movies including this one ......excellent writers
Great movie, now i need to see more in this series. Boris Karloff was so amazing. His charisma and acting still shined, despite the weird makeup.
Love these old movies

Well her father was dead and she didn't want to lose her future husband too.
I definitely prefer Boris Karloff as Wong, over Bella Lugosi. Lugosi makes Wong sound like he's part vampire. LOL
Very good movie,thank you.
What a score 🤗 what movie haven't seen these in a while 😀 Appreciate you.12 stars.Thank you.have a tremendous day.

When we were young we were beautiful on the outside... after 65 years it's all in inside..❤️.....
The picture is great. The sound is a little rough. Great flick!
Love love love Boris!! Mr. Wong is great!!
Karloff has terrific presence, quite scary when he chooses. Good acting by the rest of the cast too. I think I prefer Mr Wong to Charlie Chan.

Yes, Dick Tracy meets Gruesome. Good stuff. Since I put the comment up, I’ve watched more Charlie Chan and they are good. Especially the early ones.
Known Unknown agreed!!! They are just fun!!! If you haven’t seen it yet, I suggest Charlie Chan at the Wax Museum......it’s one of my favorites!!!
I like them all. Why does everything have to be a contest ?

Great Movie Merry Christmas 🎄♥️🇺🇸🙏
nice, very good- but I have seen where they used the same backdrop from Charlie Chan movie by the sea.
There were at least three scenes in this film which were used in or taken from other Mr Wong films too.
My favorite episode!
They had Keye Luke play Wong but not enough name recognition so they went with Boris Karloff.
I didn't care for Keye Luke playing Mr Wong as much as Mr Karloff, Mr Karloff had all his own magic, and Grant Writhers and Marjorie Reynolds and him cutting her feather in her hat was great.
@@parrot0051 Actually if I’m not mistaken, Keye Luke played in the final 6th Wong, not the first. I’ve been binge watching these, hope I’m right. : )
" for the love of Mike" was a much used slogan.
at 19:20 he sits down with a young man, at 19:45 he speaks to a man with a long beard and white hair. then at 21:40 the first man is seated again.
They reused some footage from a previous film. It's still done today, to a certain extent, but since this was made during the war years, it's not surprising.
Yea I asked this question above too some kind of physic possibly ? and Bellaq Lugosi as Mr Wong ? not as good as Mr Karloff.

$1.00 a cocktail? Take me to that bar!!
Love Boris as Mr. Wong and Colonel March. I'm wondering if more are available than just these? Here's hopin🤞
The deceased man did not elicit much sadness. The news reporter was only interested in the headlines.
Seems like they’ve used that bar and office in a few other shows. Small changes of course.
I'm fairly certain that I could never love a man who called me "dummy". Nope!
My wife calls me dummy and I still love her, just saying!
didn't Marjorie Reynolds play Danny Thomas's wife in tv series?
No she played Wm Bendix's wife in Life of Riley ..Marjorie Lord played Thomas' wife
I always thought Boris Karloff (nee William Pratt) was a tall man ! , but in the Wong series he appears on the short side at least compared to Grant Withers.
Should also watch Mr. Moto movies
sure enjoy Marjorie Reynolds in these, Bobbie Logan is a real Torchy Blane :D
Mr Wong ? Oh dear !
I'm curious to know who wrote the music for this.....very intelllesting.....no?

Sigh. :)
Too many commercials 😡
Get RUclips Premium. No commercials at all.
An illegal shipment of Chun King Chow Mein!
19:15 to 19:34 same guy taking to Wong at 19:45 It's a different guy 🥴🤔.
Reusing footage was, and still is, a common practice. Considering this was during the war years, it's not surprising.
I knew who did it from the beginning!
Everyone smoked in the good old days. Even newborn babies.
Ha, ha ashes made readable. We need them to work on all the redacted files 🤣
😂😂😂
too easy --all that trouble --and so easy
Looks like a good movie but it has no sound.
fix your sound -- it has sound
Put in your hearing aids...
Mr. Wong can find your sound.
