  • THE THREE KINGS: Playing in cinemas from Sunday 1st November - On digital platforms and DVD from Monday 16th November 2020. Order from Amazon► amzn.to/2HXhLj1 - A brand-new feature length cinema documentary, THE THREE KINGS, is being released in the UK and Ireland this November. From the Oscar and BAFTA-winning producers of Diego Maradona and Senna and the director of I Believe In Miracles, THE THREE KINGS is the definitive film portrait of three men who were born in the central lowlands of Scotland within 30 miles of each other - and went on to change the history of football: Busby. Shankly. Stein.
    Cinemas across the country will be playing THE THREE KINGS from Sunday 1st November, with participating cinemas listed on threekingsfilm.co.uk. The film will then be available on all home entertainment formats from Monday 16th November. Matt Busby, Bill Shankly and Jock Stein all came from mining communities around Glasgow where the call of the pits was only drowned out by a call of the pitch, and only then if your talents warranted it.
    THE THREE KINGS offers a fascinating look at three remarkable men and managers. How their upbringings shaped their lives and their football teams. How they became the best of friends and how they became the fiercest of rivals. Each man arriving in three great British industrial cities and changing the life of the people forever. Glasgow, Liverpool and Manchester.

    "Matt Busby is the greatest manager who ever lived. I mean I'm not saying I think he's the greatest I'm saying he is the greatest, facts can prove that. He's an inspiration to anybody, always willing to help you and he would never guide you wrong, I think many men have gone to Matt for advice, he's an inspiration to everybody" William Shankly.
    ps. Both Shanks and Stein should have been knighted for their services to football. Without doubt Liverpool's and Celtic's greatest ever managers!

      @Chaz Buchan "Stein refused his knighthood mate" No he didn't. He was never given one. He was due to get one after winning the EC but after 4 Celtic players were sent off in a match with an Argentinian side this was downgraded to a CBE.

      @@KryptonitetoallBS what's disgraceful about that is Stein has no involvement in the escalation. Racing Club players systematically and intentionally aimed to injure Celtic players to gain an advantage(this was before substitions), this happened repeatedly over the 3 legs that happened and in the 3rd Celtic players felt so outright cheated by the referees of the intercontinental cup, they fought back at every foul.
      By all accounts Celtic were cheated.
      Despite all this, in modern 2 leg rules, Celtic would have won on away goals. It only went to a playoff thanks to cheating and biased refereeing. So the fact Stein, who was a protestant btw, was denied even being eligible for an honour of that magnitude because of corruption in football, is shameful. The reason the 1967 European Cup win was so influential is because how rampant corruption was at the time that Stein genuinely told the players not to expect to win and to just go and play football. Celtic won the game 11 vs 12.

      Having watched this u can argue stein was the greatest he also won the European Cup the same as Busby a greater achievement given it was celtic. Alex Ferguson has a greater record than Busby and paisley a greater record than shankly. Having said that without these great managers laying the foundations the latter's wouldn't have had their success.

    Superb for younger people to get the chance to see the story of these great men and to see how they shaped their clubs to be the giants they still are today. There is footage on youtube for people interested in these legends in a doc called 'The Football Men: Busby, Shankly & Stein' also.

    one of the best documentaries ive ever seen. im a 26 year old from Ayr and i will forever carry with me the deeds these men brought to our game. We have lost the passion that these gents brought to the game and I hope one day clubs can get the managers they deserve not the ones that are financially correct

    Watched the full film & thought it was brilliant as for the best of the best out the 3 of them imo it's big Jock simply for winning the European cup with 11 players within a 30 mile radius of Celtic park I'm a bit young to remember sir Matt in the 60/70s but my old man used to say if he had to pick a Celtic boss other than Jock Stein he would have loved to seen him or Shanks at Celtic park easily 3

    This was an excellent doc. BUT I have one question:
    WHERE can I hear the music at the end of this doc? Not the credits, just before? Where we see the kids playing football down the street as the camera follows them, as it talks about the game being open for all, how Shanks, Busby and Stein are the heartbeats of British football. The music during that bit.

    Ranking 1 to 3. Stein, Shankly, Busby that's the gospel. Hail Hail

    • @KryptonitetoallBS
      @KryptonitetoallBS 3 года назад +4

      @Chaz Buchan Shanks himself said that Busby is the greatest manager ever. No-one has done what Busby has, no-one and probably never will. Tbh if we're talking about the best managers Clough has to get a mention also!

    • @KryptonitetoallBS
      @KryptonitetoallBS 3 года назад +2

      @Chaz Buchan He actually won the big cup twice out of 3 attempts, now that's a phenomenal record when compared to Steins 1 out of 10. And the other consideration for Clough was he won things with a "comparatively" small club compared to giants like Celtic/Man United.
      I do not consider winning trophies however to be the only important factor when judging a manager, otherwise Paisley would be included with these 3. For me it's building something from nothing and with what financial assistance. Where would Liverpool be without Shanks? He built that club, pure and simple.

    • @KryptonitetoallBS
      @KryptonitetoallBS 3 года назад +2

      @Chaz Buchan The fact that they had a team of local lads wasn't down to Stein's management. Those players were already there when Stein joined. What Stein brought was discipline, motivation and tactics which is fantastic in itself but he didn't recruit that team!
      ps. I don't want to split hairs but JJ was from Saltcoats which is 32 miles from Glasgow. Still nevertheless it's something which we will never see again.

    • @KryptonitetoallBS
      @KryptonitetoallBS 3 года назад +2

      @Chaz Buchan Sorry I picked the wrong one but whoever it was it proves my point. He wasn't a Glaswegian he was an Ayrshire man !!!

    • @KryptonitetoallBS
      @KryptonitetoallBS 3 года назад +3

      @Chaz Buchan The 3 biggest supports in British football are Rangers, Celtic and United. No other club comes anywhere close and I say that with 45 years of watching football all over the UK and a few European tours too. However having a huge support isn't as important as it once was. Having hugely wealthy owners is more critical as Chelsea and City have proved.
      It's a shame the SPL is so poor. It desperately needs a strong Aberdeen, Dundee and Edinburgh clubs to put Scotland on the map. Since 1992 Rangers and Celtic have fallen behind their English neighbours massively due to the appeal of the PL. It's a real shame.
