Absolutely mate, it's possibly one of the only cases where "value for money" doesn't mean it's a bit crap but cheap. It's a genuinely lovely made seriously accurate bit of kit. Definitely should make the big brands sweat a bit.

Hi Iwan. The HW98 is a lovely rifle but I have to be honest I'd be stunned if it outshot the Cometa. This may sound brazen but I'd put a Fusion against any out of the box springer on the market today. It takes a lot to beat a 0.36" group at 45 yards unsupported.
Give one a try Iwan I guarantee you won't regret it.

My thoughts exactly, I won't mention brand names but how often do we hear "I bought an XYZ for £600-£800 and after tuning it the rifle shoots lovely!". It's the same for PCP's but you can add another digit to the price tag.

Right well that answer the question on wether we are getting the metal trigger, and that bluing is stunning or it certainly looks it in the video, I have the usc walnut and to say that rifle is accurate is an understatement I can shoot it more accurately than my laser glided 95 and that is a seriously smooth shooting rifle, but I can do anything I can with the usc as I can with the 95. Me and my brother where recently having a shoot off with our cometa's we where shooting the inch and a half spinners at my best of 56 yards and my brother stretching out to 61 yards. But I have upped my scope to one of the first focal plane west hunter scopes so as soon as I get a bit of dry still weather I will see how far I can push it. But I will definitely be getting one of these 100%. By the way I would just like to give a quick message to all airgunners, be wary of your neighbours, my brother had word's with a female neighbour 3 weeks ago she was one of the local nut job's, my brother just told her to go away or he would phone the police, the woman threatened to kill him. An hour later the police helicopter was hovering above my brothers house, he was out talking to other neighbours about this woman, next thing 15 armed police pulled up to his home and like an sas raid went into his home, he walked over and said what the hell where they doing and telling them he was the house owner, I second latter he was smashed to the ground with machine guns pointed straight at him. He was bundle into the back of the van with charges that he had held his neighbour as hostage with a shot gun to her head, he does not even own a shotgun. They then took all his airguns, anyway it had all been caught on camera and he was released the next day without further action and all charges dropped. It turned out the woman had rung the police and said she had been taken hostage by my brother and he was holding a shotgun to her head. She has not even been questioned or arrest for lying. But the worst thing was that when he got his rifles back they where battered his brand new cometa has big gauges out of the stunning walnut stock and his other rifles where even worse, the police are not bothered and refuse to even speak to my brother about them. So he is going to try and see what can be done legally but it's not looking good. So as I say be very careful out there the less people know that you have rifles the better and definitely don't get in arguments with anyone.

Nice review Dan, As you know I have a Cometa Compact Star in. 177. I also have from new HW98. If I could only keep one, it would be the Cometa. It shoots jsb Express spot on. Also shoots Spitfire Domes almost as good. The only downside is the springs. Mine has been back to ASI who has repaired it under Warranty. But come back shooting just over 10ft lbs. Will put a kit in it to see how long & WW kit last. Would buy the fusion laminate if they have sorted the springs. Easy gun to repair & work on. Nice to see you back on doing the reviews.

Thanks for sharing Dan, I love my Cometa's, a self admitted fan boy, my only gripe with the design on these is the lack of a sturdy scope mount pin hole, as you know the holes on the fusion and fenix etc are tiny and serve no purpose, if you lodge anything in them they foul the safety, you can see the top of the safty slide though these small holes. But super accurate and great looking rifles.

      Hi Peter!
I agree and I'll be having a chat with Cometa about this. It's not a massive issue like you've said as one piece mounts lock on there no problem at all but it's an odd design choice I'll admit.

@@bigdansairguns83 Although I hale from sunny Orsett 😱, I have been living in Spain for many years, I like most of my rifles to be around 10.5 to 11.5 as I target shoot only, but the max over here is 18FPE, both my fusion and fenix were delivered with 20 joules, and shook the scopes clean off the back of the rail, even a one peice Hawke, not so much of a problem now as iv shortened the springs. But if your not sub 12 that poor design can come into play. Happy shooting Dan.

You know what Dan? I think you're right, that is an object of wonder, easily as pretty as the Weihrauch HW98 laminate which was what, two or three hundred quid more? And at the price it's a real contender for the contents of my piggy-bank...
One question though: is the air stripper removable? It'd look better in anodised black and the option to use a silencer would be good.

    • @bigdansairguns83
      @bigdansairguns83  18 дней назад

      Hey David!
That's why I love them, to get a rifle of a similar spec as you've mentioned you need to spend a massive amount more and even then I'd be stunned if it were as accurate and refined to shoot.
The air stripper is removable but it comes off with the entire shroud I believe. To be fair you don't really need a silencer as the rifles are very quiet to shoot even with just the shroud.
Originally the shroud actually used to house baffles, Cometa removed them on later batches as they didn't make the gun any quieter!
That said if you'd like a rifle with the laminate stock and 1/2UNF take a look at the new Cometa 150 year anniversary rifle on our website. Comes with open sights as well.

They're a great gun but as Ian has said they're a tuned HW99s. The Fusion is doing this straight out of the box and not even run in.

@@ianwhite5799 Yes the entire purpose of the IMP MK2 is that it is tuned and this is how 'you' receive it out of the box. However the Cometa Fusion is giving the IMP good competition and a run for it's money and is about £100 cheeper. It's definitely a bargain.

@@MrRockstar1968but that is not what is meant by the saying " out of the box " as it refers to something as is direct from the manufacturer.

i have two plastic triggered versions. ive put several thousand through them. Its a shame the blueing is utter junk! ive got 60 year old and 50 year old rifles with perfect blueing. The cometa has gone rusty where I hold it to cock it. regardless of being well oiled.
es una pena que una carabina muy buena tiene que tener oxido! tendre que cambiarle el cañon.

Spot on with the blueing, I oil mine after every session which is a pain but seems to work better, you can actually see it dulling the more you cock it, but the rest of the gun makes it worth it.

I've not had this issue nor heard of it but I'll pass it on to Cometa and see what they say. Is it a newer rifle or an older batch? It might've been a dodgy batch of bluing a while back as I've never had this issue since I've dealt with Cometa. I'm sorry to hear this though.

Yeh. The bluing i have , at least from 12 years ago has always been very light and with a somewhat transparent look to it compared to older rifles.
I dont think its an isolated case as my local gun shop the other day mentioned that cometas bluing is generally sub par
I will likely end up ordering a replacement barrel and being more zealous with oil for that rifle.
But next to a 60 year old webley, its a shame..

Dont think its bluing on Cometa’s its blacking.

That trigger is just a stick , I'm sure someone could have come up with a better design, ?

      Hi Phillip!
It's a damn nice stick though as sticks go. 😉😂
That said I agree that some more curvature would've been nice. But in its defence it's a lovely feeling thing.
