how you keep a straight face talking to these people is beyond me
How do they keep from rolling their eyes either!
By being highly empathetic, and having a high EQ in general. Should they be laughing at an elderly lady who dug herself into a hole financially after her old man had passed? A senior citizen, who is not fit to navigate the murky waters of online dating, and who may even be struggling with some level of depression? I have SO MUCH RESPECT for the Catfished team just for their empathy alone.
@Merlin_and_I *should* they laugh? No. Absolutely not. Would it be understandable if they lost their patience, laughed or rolled their eyes? Yes. However, I completely agree with you. The fact that they are so empathetic, non-critical and generally patient with these people is a sign of emotional intelligence.
Clever editing.
The photoshopped photo of the guy in the trunk was too funny 😂
Linda, please, please stay away from online dating. Stay away from internet.
So true. I don't think there's any way to help her other than setting up a firewall. If she can become tech savvy enough to disable that, maybe she's ready.

Well the world is interesting. Who would think old men think the same.
But having watched a doco on older prostitutes apparently there is a market for it 🎉
Not even, Kelvin looked straight up in his 20's and possibly gay. These people are just delulu.
I’m almost 70 and a young man crushing on me would creep me tf out
There are actually men who like this lol but even the ones who do, they go after older women who look like Helen Mirren, not your average grandma. Same thing with younger women being attracted to older men, they still have to be super attractive for their age. That’s where the delusion really sits : the attractiveness imbalance
Right?! Me to!
Linda would benefit from a health checkup including a mental health evaluation. She sounds liable to fall for this again.
Really…a guy young enough to be your grandson is in love with you? This is beyond delusional.
It's stupidity. Plain and simple. I know that triggers some but it's clearly the truth.

Her son needs to take control of her internet activity and financials.❤
Poor guy. It sucks to have to save a loved one from themselves.
I can see her son is in a painful predicament: wanting to protect his mom from predators, but still have respect for her privacy and autonomy. I do feel it's time to begin oversight of her financials, especially if she gives so much $$$ she cannot pay her bills. That's imperative. Next step would be some counseling, with a professional who could help her come to terms with loneliness and aging. It's foolish of her to fall for boys young enough to be her grandsons.
My thoughts exactly. This woman can no longer manage her basic funds and bills appropriately (hence the needing of her relatives to pay her RENT ffs) , and she is instead flushing money down the toilet rooted inTopic for the Catfisher crowd: many of these victims are aging boomers who are likely dealing with some basic mental issues and even cognitive decline. And this combined with general Boomer naïveté concerning the internet in generrqlthe idiot. Of course the scammer follows the same script they all use, every single time.
True, but it is so, so, so hard to get a conservatorship for loved one.

Most victims of romance scams are the type that believe everything on the Internet is real and truthful
The word "stupid" is such a bad word nowadays that it's practically as bad as a racial slur, but honestly this woman is just stupid. Anyone who says otherwise should be challenged to explain exactly who IS stupid by their standards. Being desperate and lovesick (or just horny, in the case of the male dupes) explains a great deal of why most of these people fall for this, but just being stupid and feeble-minded should really get the lion's share of the credit. No one with an IQ above about 80 is going to think that these ridiculous scenarios the scammers use to finagle gift cards out of their dupes are reasonable. No one. And when the scammer moves from one wacky, highly implausible predicament to an even zanier one as soon as the previous one is resolved - all of which can of course be fixed only with Apple gift cards - only the very stupidest would go along with it. These people need to be told the whole, un-sugar-coated truth, and it will invariably involve the word stupid if they're being dealt with honestly. None of these people should be allowed to handle their own finances, and retailers that sell grift cards, er, gift cards, should make reading & signing a scam warning declaration mandatory for any gift card purchase.
No way a guy who looked like that would be interested in her! I am sorry but it’s reality.
She's declining - it isn't her fault!

Rude and cold
I’m convinced some elderly people just get completely absorbed into an online fantasy world in which they’re young, good-looking and instantly have dozens of gorgeous people in love with them. Obviously not all older people are capable of this break with reality, but some truly are and it’s pretty scary.
Before the internet, some older widowed ladies (like my gran for example) would read Mills and Boon novels. Trashy but a perfectly good outlet for romance fictions, and much cheaper than these scammers
The face when he’s in the trunk kidnapped 🤣 but in a serious note, this is why catfish pushes for family to be involved. Check in on your family people!
The trouble is how many times have victims familes told them it is a scam and they still carry on believing the person is real.

I don't believed for a second Linda didn't send money to the "military guy". I am full of respect for Chris ❤
Scammers must have fun coming up with these ridiculous story lines.
It’s always the same thing. Military stranded in another country, kidnapped by a foreign adversary cause they owe a bunch of money or they working abroad. Nothing creative
Idk, the stories all seem to follow a similar script. It never ceases to surprise me, what people can fall for. . . I feel sorry for Linda, she's clearly dangerously lonely since her husband died.
Yeah, for the maybe 10 of them in the entire country who actually dream this stuff up. There are only just a handful of scenarios & contexts used in these scams, and they just get reused over and over again. Old rig worker / boss, celebrity who is secretly unhappy with their current relationship, U.N. doctor, etc. I wish they actually DID come up with more ideas so these wouldn't seem so tedious!
They are probably laughing after they get the money from each story.

Her son needs to take conservatorship immediately. It's NOT invading his mother's privacy at all! The lady clearly has the beginnings of dementia. It's a sneaky, insideous disease. You don't see it, if you see the person on a regular basis. I went overseas for a few years and my mother was not the same person when I returned. She wasn't that old either. My sisters living with her hadn't even seen it. It just gradually got worse. It progressed quickly towards the end but she still had lucid moments. He son has to PROTECT HER FROM HERSELF. I wish them well.
That is such a caring comment. You do have a point. Even if she does not have dementia, there is something wrong with her decision-making. I am not saying this to be cruel, but something proactive needs to be done. I am also sorry about your Mother. Things like dementia are so terrifying.
I said the same thing about another one of their patients. Because that is exactly what they are, early onset dementia patients. You can tell it by listening to them when they rehearse some of these ridiculous azz stories as if it's actually real. Something is sketchy about her son. He said she's been scammed repeatedly by people online, but he doesn't seem to be that upset about it. I think he talks to prn stars online and he probably thinks they are in luv with him. I mean, he claims he checked out somebody that was her boyfriend, but clearly that wasn't true. That son is not spending any time with her.
I don't think she has dementia I think she's just not very smart, to put it nicely. I agree with you otherwise.
Something in common with all of these alleged "victims" is that THEY are unfaithful. The truth always comes out that they are chatting to and falling for several different scammers all at the same time. These "victims" are red flags themselves.
Yes so true!!!!! My mom has "married" so many of them and has been "dating" fake celebrities and so-called prize coordinators for years and started all of it when she was married in real life!

She has some sort of supratentorial problem, for sure. Needs a medical work up in my opinion.
100% agree! She looks completely detached from the whole situation as they are trying to tell her the truth.
Just in the span of one short video she has fallen for two ridiculously absurd scams that most people could figure out in about five seconds. This will assuredly guarantee her a steady supply of contacts from scammers now that she is probably at the top of their suckers list.
At least 2. Clearly she is big on lying to her family.
This guy is a badass, look how chill he was in that trunk while being kidnapped!
Look at her face. She's not gonna stop. She's not stupid. Shes deluded herself because she's terribly lonely :(
No, she's absolutely stupid. A lot of the men and women on this show seem to be genuinely intellectually challenged and I think that needs to be addressed more.
BTW: when she refers to her husband as “my old man” that is a term of endearment for people in that age group.
Right, teen age and 20-something hippies in the 60s & 70s used to say "my ol' lady" and "my ol' man" for boyfriends & girlfriends and instead of husband & wife
It's funny how that term has now become literal, because the people who use it ARE old now.

@@uninsurable9028 They absolutely dont! Especially in their 70's! Many many ppl get on fine without the romantic side and do love being with family and friends and thats enough.
That photoshopped pic with him in cuffs is so funny 😂😂😂😂
For sure
Really. I laughed out loud.
They need to get Nana in some senior citizen clubs down at the YMCA😂😂😂😂😂
Here's a big tip...if you're 70 years old n a 20 something year old is saying they want to spend the rest of their lives with you, giant red flag!
Some people are just beyond help...nobody in his right mind would believe that that young good looking guy would fall for that
@@mailinnrodriguez3209 iam no where near 70yrs old and even I would NOT believe a hot young guy of 25 would be interested in me (maybe if I was a billionaire 😂) the ego of these people SMH 🙄
Chris needs to take her laptop and get her a flip phone without Internet.
Do people not own mirrors? I'm sorry, but the lack of self-awareness is astonishing.
I think they still think they're 25 and hot.
@Kdkat2024 exactly 💯👍👏👏 I always say if half these people actually looked in the mirror 🪞 half these scams would easily have been avoided. 😒
Age, attractiveness, common interests etc. don't matter! These young, handsome men are always into older, totally mismatched women for that indescribable Factor X that can't quite be nailed down, but they just know when a woman has it. Oh wait, yeah it's "access to money and a willingness to use it to buy them gift cards" that's the magic Factor X.
This!
So sad. Those faces toward the end. Oh my gosh!
I’m in decent shape for 61 but no way would think 30 years old hot guys want me lmao . Why would she even want someone that young?? Gross
The new guy from the military was immediately apparent that women were not his primary interest. Then his actual photos confirmed it. So many people get scammed that it seems like a huge issue deserving some type of legislation.
Why did no alarmbells ring when kidnappers wanted giftcards. Can you imagine they go for that now "Listen up coppers, I got 20 hostages in here, I want a getaway car, a plane ready at the airport and I want a steam giftcard worth of 100 dollars, asap!".
That photo in the trunk😂😂😂😂I am deceased 😅
😂😂😂 How the scammer tried to call Breanne out?!
These real identities of her boyfriends didn’t seem to phase her. I’m willing to bet there are more that her son and Catfish don’t know about.
Her son said he knew re the new guy but then it turned out that wasn't kelvin. So there's at least 1 other!!!
So if I smuggle ‘kilos of cocaine’ into Canada, I have to pay a fee of $800 to go free? Do I get to keep the cocaine? Sounds like a good business opportunity😂😂😂😂
“Babe I’ve been kidnapped and the kidnappers need you to pay in gift cards” are you serious 😂😂
Yeah they're definitely a looksmatch... Do these ladies actually own a mirror??
Ikr, that's one of the most baffling things to me!
I remember back in 2021 when my hubbie had just died, I made the huge mistake of putting "widow" on my Facebook page. Immediately, a person who I realize now was a scammer, began casually dming me on Messenger. I was of course very busy at that time but when I finally found time to chat with friends again, he had already blocked me (out of frustration I guess).
My point however is this: even tho I knew next to nothing back then about scammers, I am a hundred percent sure that if that fake profile had asked me for money, I would have never, ever sent it, plus I would've realized something was terribly wrong. So tell me, how the heck do these scam victims not get the same red flag alarms going off in their heads?
That's exactly what I don't understand!
Even more so when the scammer pretends to be a celebrity. Like, even when I was at my most attractive (at age 18) I never would've believed some celebrity had fallen in love with me online. But so many elderly women do. . . how?!
The problem is they have an inflated ego, and they are lonely and gullible
Many of the victims are recently widowed or divorced and haven't worked through the grief - which is hard and takes time. Instead, the scammer distracts them from their grief with all this romantic woo. At the end of a lot of these SC videos, the victim cries and admits they are still not over their last relationship. Also there are a lot of people, men and women whose previous relationships have been negative or abusive, so the love bombing and gradual controlling behaviour feels 'familiar' to them.
@ all of the above was the case with my marriage, but guess what, I still would never have sent money, much less keep sending money until I was broke, much less send all of the money he had worked so hard for multiple decades.
It’s a mystery to me!😂😂
Linda lies alot to herself and to her son. Her Son should get a conservatorship or guardianship for Linda
Yeah Linda should not be in charge of her finances. As long as the scammers use different names and a different scenario (maybe the handsome young military guy or the oil rig worker), she will keep giving them her money until there's nothing left.
It’s very difficult and expensive to get a guardianship. Most people don’t want to go through that.
@@uninsurable9028 there are other options.
My boyfriend, Johnny Depp, told me there are so many scammers like this online.
Say hi to your boyfriend Johnny Depp!!!!!! 🤣 🇦🇺
No doubt I just had the same conversation with Brad Paisley the other day.
This woman is soooo unbelievably naive. I feel for her and hope that her son can help her
