Jade should be admired for her ability to resist three decades of potential character development in order to remain true to her roots as an NPC. The Girls Gone Wired video is legitimately the most interesting she's ever been on her own, and modern NRS would destroy every copy of it if they could.
Tanya going from MKX to MK1 is going from one of the most fun characters in the game to the definitive anti-fun character, it's gotta be the biggest glow-down in MK history. Also, Sydney Cross is beautiful and NRS did her so dirty, imagine being a professional model and having to put "MK1 Tanya" on your resume.
With this one video you've already put more effort into this undercooked rivalry than the developers.

I just googled Sydney Cross and I'm in disbelief. They did the same thing to Kelly Hu/Li Mei and it's gaming's most nonsensical trend; the equivalent of chopping your 7-inch dick in half right before you smash.

I checked her out and she is also not too beautifull although I kind of like Tanya in MK1 she is one of the 3 best looking females in the game right after Megan Fox and Sindel
@@tsvetelin6556 There is a point, because that human-demon duality is the point of the character, and part of what she hates about herself, so it's a good idea to widen the gulf between the 2 halves as much as possible, by making her human form as beautiful as possible, and perhaps err more on the repulsive side, with her demon form.

I think it's interesting that both Jade and Tanya are traitors. But whole Jade betrayed Outworld for her best friend Kitana, Tanya betrayed her own people for herself. Jade values others whereas Tanya only values herself. Great dichotomy. Until MK1 and this was all ditched.

You know out of all the rivalries like Sonya Blade vs Kano, Ashrah vs Nitara, Kitana vs Mileena, Scorpion vs Sub-zero and Quan chi.Out of all of these there's always one rivalry that didn't have proper fleshing put and that's Jade Vs Tanya

@@vishaldutta4375 That's definitely the case for Tanya and Liu Kang (Tanya's can also be Illusion-enhanced, like I said), but it's the least plausible for M1K Scorpion, since his Fire powers are pretty random, and there's nothing to justify him being such a god-tier elemental user, like Raiden or Fire god Liu.
@@CynicalWarlock I hope we get some anwers in the upcoming story mode dlc like why his powers are different from that of his brother bihan what's going on with his family in this new timeline cuz he does teleport and it is as hard to digest that he can go through some other plane of existence as it is to accept that he turns into fire but then again in previous timelines he did turn into ice and in m1k invasion mode his brother bihan does that turning into ice and travel through ground and appears somewhere else that's why I thought may be ha can do the same in this timeline as well just with fire and ice , and mk universe is full of teleporting characters and also there Rain who can open water portals and move through them as well as throw his opponents into them as well (I don't have any issues with that as he is half god) but I do wonder which water realm/dimension he opens portals to ? @@vishaldutta4375 Yeah I wouldn't get my hopes up - NRS just follow the rule of cool, without searching for an explanation.
As for Rain's portals, I've actually given this some thought, in the back of my mind. Most portals in MK (not just the games, but live-action stuff, as well) look elemental, in nature. Most look kinda like fire portals (yellow-black, with fire-like ripples), some are green, some water portals like Rain's.. and even though this is coincidental, it does unwittingly suggest that you can use any one element to teleport. Perhaps, when the One Being was split into the multiple realms, the dead space between them became this wormhole, or 'corridor' that you can use to travel between realms, a.k.a. portals. And since the realms/Kamidogu kind of each have an elemental theme, maybe the different corridors are elemental as well, so a proficient Fire user might open up the Fire wormhole, while a Water one might use the Water one.
Definitely a bit contrived, and needlessly complicated, but I kinda like it.
It would be cool to see these two interact in a future game or just pre fight intros

The more time passes the more I wish the reboot of M1K never happened with the way they handled a lot of the characters.
M1K's story just feels like the result of bad ideas that were the result of bad ideas.

I severely hope they don't butcher Jade's Character and make her evil... I want their rivalry but not at the expense of Jade... Maybe a friendly rivalry? Or just make them not like each other? Just because two people hate each other, it doesn't mean they both aren't good.
See that's the problem with this timeline - everyone's goody-good and watered down. Doesn't leave much room for conflict and rivalries to naturally blossom.

I wish we saw more attention paid to the rivalry between Jade and Tanya and it got the same care as the Kitana and Mileena rivalry. MK1 was a missed opportunity to not include Jade and explore their rivalry. They basically turned Tanya into Jade in MK1 in a way, and it's stupid that MK1 has all the main Edenians except Jade.

jade has been leaked for KP2 so hopefully we get to see this rivalry again very soon.
They also flat-out erased Edenia, as a realm, which makes this all the more ironic.

Yep, one of many non-canon stand-ins.
I like the interpretation of Tanya wielding some fire or light elements. While Scorpion explores rage, revenge (I swear, Konami should have payed some money to make their Revengence title in official dictionary) Tanya could have represented positive sides of fire like safety of light, welcoming nature and comfort of warmth, just as good as the counter sides of ambition, greed, opportunistic chaos. She was a symbol as an ambassador, an instrument of progress, that drove the most progressive civilizations (I don't how to put more of Prometheus in one sentence). But left unchecked, in the darkest day, she consumed everything she once protected, to get free of its previous shambles. Raising nothing, but her cold ambition. Her fire didn't save lives by its warmth, it betrayed the closest ones to it, and turned cold forever all the others. But it's just my minor imagination.
Also, it would be interesting to see Jade switch sides in M1K. It's unlikely, but it would be an interesting perspective. Tanya is no longer an ambassador, but some sort of a loyal guard now. An enforcer. And countess Jade... Well, even the brightest colour could be corrupted. I would like her to take side with new Shao, but on more reasonable basis. Earthrealm can be a danger to an Outworld, and Liu Kang as one of the most powerful beings is not the most trusted person. Companionship can be between equals. Power dynamics change extremely, when one is much more superior, than the other.
That Prometheus analogy is golden. That whole paragraph is a perfect summary of Tanya, and how I see her. Makes me wonder what an OG timeline Tanya that actually redeemed herself and lived up to that positive fire would look like..
..right before she dies, of course, because tragedy.
My hot take I put jade and Tanya over kitana and mileena. The way they twist and turn mileena story is she a clone? is she family? is she kitana sister? Can be confusing to some I know I depends on the writer of the story line. However the point you hit upon is Tanya like rain is the sell out Edinian holding into the notion of I will do what I will to survive or the I was done wrong so now it’s ok for me to do wrong narrative. I feel that is complex and you could explore a lot with that. Jade most of the time seems like more of a sister to kitana than mileena does hence their dynamic. But with this new story line what happens to jade? Mileena is on good terms with both Tanya and kitana.

I just realized Edenia has a huge familial/bloodline/inheritance drama vibes. Sindel, Kitana, Mileena, Jade, Tanya, Rain - all these characters are either part of the line of succession or have problems with the line of succession. So much potential for a political drama.
As for Jade's place in M1K.. yeah, the writers didn't think that far.
I wonder if we'll see Jade in this new timeline. I hope she'll be a future DLC character, I know a lot of people think that just bc new Tanya uses a staff and the addition of Khameleon mean her chances are low, but I disagree. It's not like we've ever had characters who used the same fighting style before. *Cough* terminator, RoboCop, erron black, etc
I think Jade can be different enough to be playable, especially if she has a new origin.
As long as she at least looks as decent as Kitana/Mileena/Sindel, I'm down for it.

There's just two problems with the notion that Jade's green is precisely like Reptile's green.
1. Reptile's Green (Force) is a straightforward combination of Blue Ice (Water) from Sub-Zero and Yellow Fire from Scorpion.
2. Tanya was introduced after Jade.
How to rectify this?
Secondary color ninjas for the women add a notion of (reversing, subverting) the element but not the color. Perhaps to indicate a corresponding subversion of the morality of that character?
Kitana's Blue Wind = Earth is the opposite of Wind; Jade is more grounded compared to Kitana and more willing to entertain morally grey actions to defend her.
Tanya's Yellow Fire = Water is the opposite of Fire; Jade retains the nobility and loyalty that Tanya discarded for self-preservation.
Earth + Water = Shadow

I like the more pragmatic, less magical explanation for the purple stuff, but the glow, the sound effects, they seem to suggest something more magical or, at the very least, alchemical.

I think Jade and Stryker being a team/thing could be interesting. Stryker fighting to save the Earth and Jade learning about the Earth though him. Given the fact that they both truly show up in MK3 I think this could be interesting.
Very unorthodox team up. I like it.
Stryker is about the last person you'd expect to have any kind of meaningful interactions with Jade, yet that's part of why it would be so powerful. This short-lived, underpowered nobody impresses the immortal superhero assassin with his grit, battle tactics and his commitment to saving his realm, despite his role as a meager enforcer, which is something Jade ends up relating with.
@@CynicalWarlock Also you could play with their shared hatred of Mileena. Jade sees her as a representation of her world becoming no better then outworld, while Stryker as his unexplained beef with Mileena that goes across timelines.

I agree I think Jade and Tanya have an interesting contrast to each other. I like that Jade stayed consistent with her morals or more so her code of honor while Tanya was going all over the place. I wish they had explained in more great depth why Tanya feels like treachery and deception is better or why would she betray her own people. It would also be interesting how being double minded or even double natured messes with Tanya's mind have her a bit unstable unpredictable who enhances her character of being fishy. She could be that character where villain or hero are wary to trust her because of her deceitful ways but she has worth and knowledge that either side could use. Also I'm still trying to think how could Tanya be a traitor in MK1 because having her and Jade in there as good girls would sorta be redundant if you ask me. They honestly gave Jade's traits to Tanya in MK1
As for Jade she's rock solid in who she is. She's for edenia and for her best friend kitana. Her rivalry with Tanya could be also due to the fact that Tanya basically got that edenian privilege and you still betrayed your realm while Jade was molded to be Shao Kahn's weapon, but she never allowed her circumstances to have her forget her loyalty is to edenia.

My ideas on Tanya are very similar to yours. She's a complicated character and her own worst enemy; shades of Mystique, from the X-Men, especially the OG animated series, as well as the X-Men: Evolution version.
I also wanna make her a somewhat tragic character, whereby she's initially forced into a few fight or flight situations, early on, where she *needs* to be a lying betrayer to survive, but then that becomes the only way she knows how to operate, and ends up pushing everyone away and becoming her own worst enemy, secretly filled with self-loathing because of it. Exactly the kind of unstable "I'm perfect and everyone else is wrong, but also I secretly hate myself" personality that you mentioned.
MK1(2) neutered a lot of these characters, and Tanya looks like she suffered the worst of it. They present these as improvements, like everyone's good now, but character-wise, it actually strips a lot of what makes these characters what they are.

I'd need a lot more cocaine to tackle M1K Tanya.
@@CynicalWarlock I like that her being a mystique-esque type of character. It could be as Edenia was being invaded she felt like hey I need deceive and betray in order to survive and that leads her down that path. Y'know what just occurred to me. Tanya can also be like Demona from the Gargoyles cartoon. Demona didn't start off as bad but as she continued to make mistakes and go darker to survive she lost herself.
Yes MK1 messed where the ones who are normally bad guys are either turned good or nerfed which makes sense because Lui Kang made that timeline and that was their biggest mistake because it makes sense for Lui Kang to do that to a timeline but now they messed up for future storyline. I had an idea on how to fix some of the mk1 timeline but as you already know that's a challenge right there
Mk1 was just such a massive character switch up for Tanya that made her feel like a stand in for Jade. Which is one of my biggest problems with mk1 since most characters and dynamics felt like cheap knockoffs of already existing material. Such as Subzero and Scorpion being super similar to Cyrax and Sektor, Raiden being an almost complete copy and paste of Liu Kang which they did almost nothing interesting with, Kenshi essentially acting like Sonya with their dynamic with Johnny, and with the already mentioned Jade and Tanya.
Kenshi also is similar to Kabal (the REAL Kabal, not the constantly retconned bad guy version of him) being a former criminal atoning for his crimes. But yeah, totally agreed on what you said here. Tanya is a treacherous asshole who uses people around her yet somehow the fans decided that her romancing Mileena was honest in MKX... and it all went downhill from there for her.
It was inevitable, really. Tanya is the one black female character in Mortal Kombat, so she was gonna get whacked with the woke stick sooner or later.

while Kitana is my favorite female MK Kharakter (basic I know) I think I prefer Jade and Tanya's Rivalry to Kitana and Mileena's Rivalry actually due to everything you said. Though I think Tanya being good in Fire God Liu Kang's timeline could have worked, I think more should have been done with her character still as she feels very basic and while looking back that Jade x Kotal wasn't a inherently bad idea on paper, it was executed poorly in that it came out of nowhere and took any agency that Jade had as a character and the relationship just felt forced (maybe it's just cause I am not a fan of the idea personally). But I think a very interesting characterization for Tanya is that like in MKX and MK1 she does care about Edenia she is willing to Betray it like her Midway counterpart if it means it will "better" her home, so she may not be loyal to Edenia like Jade but she still cares about Edenia just in her own twisted way.
That really is the secret: give each their own points of view. Same goal, radically different ways of going about it.

As an Edenian Stan I loved this video 💛💚 . I am so annoyed at the Massive Downgrade that MK1 Tanya is from her appearance, her gameplay, and her lore/story. I feel what should've happened was because the Umgadi take firstborn children and indoctrinate them to serving the royals and worshiping Delia and Argus that Tanya would be someone totally against having her life be decided for her and she would forge her own path. She could harbour resentment for the royals for forcing her into a life of servitude and this is where she would betray them to gain her freedom. Since the Umgadi don't know who their parents are you could do something where she finds out that she is the illegitimate daughter of an ambassador and she feels that she is owed a life of privilege that was stolen from her. I feel like since Jade is also a countess in the new era she should be Sindel's closest advisor. Rain was also done very dirty in MK1. Why did they make him a mage? He could've easily been Sindel's seneschal and spymaster and retain his ninja identity and maybe for added depth he uses Tanya and feeds her secrets promising her freedom in exchange for ousting the current regime. Honestly, I thought the New Era would allow them to be more creative but so far its been incredibly shallow, watered-down, and dry. I would love a video on how you would fix the immense damage that has been done to Tanya. Also my all time favourite MK character Empress Sindel was done dirty in terms of her look in MK1. Her MK11 design was really nice and like with MK1 Tanya didn't faithfully portray Sindel's face model (Dari Dorj) either. And she also feels watered down in terms of her gameplay with her lack of multiple banshee and hair manipulation powers
Damn, you're right - Dari Dorj is much better-looking. I can kinda see the reasoning for Sindel, she's supposed to have an older, more regal air, and truth be told, they didn't butcher the model nearly as much as they did Tanya's, but it's still somewhat needless, I think.
That's a good plotline for Tanya and Rain - the 2 betrayers of Edenia.. Edenia which is now just Outworld, I guess. The more I look at M1K Rain, the funnier the court sorcerer vibe seems. I feel like they're desperately trying to negate the ninja heritage of some of these characters.
How would I fix the immense damage done to Tanya?

I think MK1 Sindel isn't that bad, but I think a far better choice for her face model in my opinion would be Gong Li who is also a mature woman, despite looking youthful and she's very elegant which would be perfect for Sindel. I think my main issue is her outfits. I don't know what her default outfit is supposed to be. It looks like a jumpsuit that been torn to shreds. If you at her Mk11 concept art specifically the Past Sindel Speeds they blend Asian/Ottoman elements beautifully and it looks very unique. The fact that they made her Asian and didn't make her look like a fantasy Chinese Empress seemed like a missed opportunity. There are so many cool outfit ideas you could have. It's also funny that royals barely have outfit changes except for the Shiva Ranatai outfits and the Earthrealm characters get more costume changes in the story than them . It is customary for royals/nobles to change their outfits for different events and even have changes in the evening and the afternoon in the same day. This would be a great way to have more unlockable skins instead the barebones variety currently being offered. Another outfit idea I had was a Geisha-inspired outfit for Kitana.
@@harveysidhu7030 Yeah, Sindel's main MK1 outfit lacks any kind of regal elements. The belts, the functional look, the exposed calves + small heels - makes her look like a hip aunt, rather than the queen of an entire realm.
You're right, as much as I hate MK11 Sindel, character-wise, I like her look and outfits.
I mean shit, Gong Li could play Kitana, Mileena, any one of the Edenians, as far as I'm concerned. Heck, play em all. Not a soul would complain.

@@CynicalWarlock Sorry, I just wanted your thoughts on if MK1 Tanya can be seen as basically them doing another massive retcon like with MK11 Sindel and would you deem MK1 Tanya as character assassination? Though she did receive some backlash for her change, I think ultimately it was given a pass due to it being a new timeline where anything goes. My Massive Copium Headcanon is that MK1 Tanya is doing a long-con deception and that secretly she has her MKX outfit hidden in her kloset, she has a hair straightener hidden in the latrine, and her kobu jutsu is hidden in her purse and she waiting for the right moment to betray everyone, do her bob with the cute bangs, and seduce everyone with her sweet little lies. Or what they can is kill MK1 Tanya introduce another Tanya from another timeline and have it seem that she is just as forthright but she is the klassic deceptive Tanya we all know and love. I know, massive amounts of copium was smoked to concoct this convuluted storyline, but by the Elder Gods, it's the only way I can stomach what they did to my girl. @@harveysidhu7030 Yes, M1K Tanya is character assassination. Even in the context of the in-universe reboot they got going on, the fact that they changed not only her morality and allegiance, but fundamentally altered her looks, powers, weapons, clothing and fighting style, means she's a different character, altogether. If they did the same to, say, Johnny Cage, everyone would be up in arms about it.
Slapping a Mercedes logo on a Prius does not make it a Mercedes.
As to whether or not they'll backpedal to the old version, it's possible, but highly unlikely, at this point. And even if they do, it'll be too little, too late. A similar thing happened to Devil May Cry. When, after 4 titles of building up the world and characters, they announced they'd be rebooting the whole thing and showcased the new, bratty, short-haired, f-bomb-dropping Dante, everyone was up in arms about it, so much so that by the time the game got released, they toned it down and made him a little more like the old version (but still pretty yucky) and the whole game acted more like a kind of prequel for him, promising to turn him into the protagonist people know and love, in the next game. Which never happened, cause they axed the whole thing.
I foresee a similar fate for this new MK timeline, and many of its characters.

It's interesting to think of Tanya in the Brazilian MK4 comic, which I consider the best Mortal Kombat comic done so far, but Tanya in that comic is a bit strange and quite different from how she is canonically.
In MK4 it's explained to us that she was an ambassador for Edenia, who rescues a group of refugees but it turns out they were Shinnok and his gang. Tanya knew this and was working with Shinnok all this time but pretends it was an accident.
In the comic, however, this is a genuine accident by Tanya. She was taught by her father to help others and they betrayed her (ironic, right?), and this is why Shinnok managed to conquer Edenia. Tanya feels guilty about this, plus she has a huge grudge against Raiden, Liu Kang (who is named as "Edenia's Protector") and Kitana for not doing anything about it.
Because of this, Tanya makes a deal with Shinnok to free Edenia, in exchange for killing Liu Kang who she considers a false protector.
Of course, Liu Kang defeats her in a single page. Despite this, Liu Kang is haunted by the thought of Tanya. After having ended Shinnok's conflict, Liu Kang keeps having nightmares about his confrontation with her and thinks about how much she resembles Kitana.
I don't consider this version of Tanya much better than the canonical one, but I thought it would be interesting to bring up. I feel like if we combined the two versions, it would result in a very interesting Tanya.

There are definitely shades of a better Tanya in there, the key word being 'conflicted'. Regardless of how well-intended or downright rotten to the core you want to make her, she should be at least somewhat conflicted about what she's doing.

Warrior, if it's not hard, I would love to see your analysis on Kabal and how both Midway and NRS writers ruined him after MK3 and gave everything that made Kabal great to Kenshi. They gave the Mavado/Red Dragon rivalry to Kenshi in Armageddon and MKX, and they gave 'the guy with disabilities who no matter what fights back and never gives up' stuff to Kenshi. Kabal didn't join the good guys after the events of MK3 and chose to be vigilante...... yeah, that's a similar event that happened to Kenshi after deception. Coincidence 🤔?
But here's the thing: Kenshi was AN ASSHOLE in the early games. He joined the SF not because he wanted to help them find Cyrax, but because Shang Tsung was in Outworld and he wanted to kill him. He was basically using them for his own selfish goals.
Here's the difference between him and Kabal (at least, in early games): if you and your friends were attacked by some street thugs, Kabal would instantly jump out of the shadow to help you, because he wants to destroy the crime world, he wants to help, he doesn't want others to suffer like he had. But Kenshi won't save you because he'd be like: "If I help them, will I get something in return? NO? Well then, good riddance to these poor guys. I'm not helping them"
Kenshi was a USER and an ASSHOLE in his debut (he was an asshole way before he met Shang Tsung. He was the swordsman who was killing other swordsmen just to prove he is the best), but when deception came out, the devs were like: Actually Kenshi is a goody two shoe guy. He helped free Ermac. He's such a cute protagonist. And Kabal..... pffff who cares about him? .... He's always been bad. That's what his video bio in deception says (no kidding, it's straight up says he's evil)
That's something I've always wanted to ask: if you don't like the vigilante Kabal, why is his stuff worth giving to Kenshi? 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
And now in M1K Kenshi is basically Kabal. If Liu Kang was smart, he would give Kabal something that he never had in both prior timelines.... it's the family that always accepts and loves him no matter what. In Deception, I could buy Kabal's whole "fall from grace" story, maybe because the Earthrealm's heroes still didn't trust or even like him because of his affiliations with the Black Dragons. Plus he had no relatives, so it's understandable. But Liu Kang could've changed that by giving family, that Kabal would cherish and protect. But they didn't do that sadly.
It's frustrating because Kabal is actually one of the characters that would benefit from a reimagining. Both visually (don't Darth Vader the man, let us see what a Kabal in his prime would look like), and story-wise, with the family bits you mentioned. I do think him flirting with the dark side is part of his character - considering how much misfortune fell upon him, it's normal for that to always be a temptation, but I see him as more of a Gray Jedi, than a Sith.

@CynicalWarlock Also, it's kinda funny how in M1K Johnny and Kenshi became best friends, but in the old timeline, Kenshi hated Johnny and didn't want him to be a leader of the heroes in Armageddon. In the bio, it was stated that Takahashi was planning to overthrow Cage and take the leadership for The Forces of Light on his own. You'd think after the events of Deception with him meeting Sub-zero, he would start to embrace the idea of comrades more, but nope. So I'm guessing his MKX bio, where it said Kenshi had become "humbled" and vowed to rid of evil after he got blinded, was also a lie 🤣
Kenshi had never learned from his mistakes. That's a misconception MKX introduced. In MK3, it was Kabal who got humbled after his horrific burns. He learned from his mistakes and tried to do better this time.

I don't find the problem with *"the white eyes was meant for this spesific kind of kharacters"* but i also like that others than the Dead also have this design, and what makes it better (for me) is that they know this issue (somehow) so they did something with the eyes in the later games

I’m confused by the royalty in Edina I don’t think they’re descendants of aurgus so are they warlords or something?
Their lineage is never explained, but it's not like Earthrealm is openly ruled by Raiden, or other gods; Ray-Ray is just a protector, much like Argus is for Edenia.
No idea how Edenians choose their rulers, but there's probably a strong bloodline component there.
though the polar opposites trope for a rivalry is common as shit, I think it works well for jade and tanya and just mk characters in general cuz there's always a lot to explore when realizing the potential
and both jade and tanya haven't been done justice since the 3d era is still baffling to me though mkx tanya was a good effort

I’m sure Jade will be in MK1 and also if you noticed the costumes get hornier because I remember hearing that they wouldn’t get as much backlash from it.
Yeah they keep oscillating between "We. Are. Mortal Kombat, bitch" and "nono, we're woke now", over and over again. But for the most part, the base M1K costumes work. Struck a decent balance.
mk9 jade and mkx tanya are probably the best characterization of them in the modern era and with the way mk11 and mk1 did them dirty I don't feel to optimistic if jade is a dlc character because they will butcher her character again...

Shinnok (satan) invade the heavenly realm and assault the eternal palace of the elder gods from there, that was gold. not even in X they use there second chance to do that right.
And one of the many missing things in DECEPTION Lost forever is jade and tanya rivality. Shao empire, shinnok brotherhood of shadow, Onaga return, Tanya has help all of those to ill edenia. And jade has fight them all. They are made for one another has enemys. in the netherealm Era tanya is like a evil version of the old jade try to save edenia by all cost, wierd right?
other thing i miss is Mileena and Baraka relationship, especially has see on Deception they were toxic and brutal to one another, Not the cliche one side innocent good, and the other vile and bad. Like all the other many ships in the netherealm Era tanya and mileena feel coming out of nowwhere for me, and they really stick on that, and sure will they do, to Kotal and Jade the year we finaly get Jade back.
That's such a good point about MK4 - it's Edenia's game, it's trial by fire, and there wasn't a single Edenian on the roster, before Gold.

@@juliojosetorrealba4274 Yeah story-wise, MK4 was a good idea executed poorly. Shinnok was pretty generic, defeated in one game (same problem in MKX, honestly), Liu Kang was still the hero, it was very by-the-numbers.
I like how Tanya is probably the least trustworthy character in all of MK (that is, before mk1). Like she managed to betray pretty much everyone in the series

I really hope they fix Kotal and Jade's relationship in M1K but thats only if there added as DLC, also i feel like in MK12 some of Tanya's selfisness is still there and I believe one thing she does is violate the umgadi's vows of chastity and having a relationship with mileena but I'm not 100% sure on that.

It's fast-paced, characters move well, the rushdown and defensive options were fairly well-balanced, all things considered, and the amount of creativity - both on the developers and the players side, with freedom of expression through combos and playstyles - is unparalleled. Ever since then, it's like they stuck cement in every fighter's boots, and bashed half the IQ out of their skulls. Movement is awkward and slow, combos are simplified, the fights look less dynamic, and there's less room for player expression.
You know, with how much Jade hates Tanya in the old timeline, one might think that in that version Tanya seduced Jade instead of Mileena... before betraying Edenia to Shinnok, of course. That would make their rivalry even more personal.
Also to your comment on the naming of special moves, I got to say, I don't really think that Johnny Cage, Nightwolf or Shao Kahn use the element of shadow for their 'shadow' moves. I think they are just using the soul element, and this is what would make sense based on the lore (Johnny has got his anti-god abilities potentially provided by the souls of his ancestors, Nightwolf has got his shaman spirits helping him, and Shao Kahn, well, has got billions of souls at his disposal). They just give off the after image effect which they call shadow for simplicity. Jade, however, is not supposed to use souls as she has no access to them, so maybe she is actually using the real element of shadow? Just a thought here.
Yep, that's a good alternate explanation for these moves. But then Jade has to use Soul too - it looks exactly the same as the other moves. And then Shadow can't be justified as an element cause only Noob uses it.
Tanya seducing and betraying Jade in MK4 might be one of the few retcons you could make that would improve the story and characters.
@@CynicalWarlock If we base our analysis predominantly on visuals, then yes, great point. But maybe there could still be some other shadow users? If we go with the 'Reiko is a wraith/revenant/whatever-he-is-in-the-Netherrealm' route from MK4, some of his moves could be considered as being purely shadow-based. Shinnok could also be in the same group (that could actually allow us to distinguish Shinnok's shoulder charge from Shao Kahn's; the former is using actual shadow magic, and the latter is using the power of stolen souls that is presented as 'shadow-ish'). Admittedly, in that case shadow magic could be seen as the Netherrealm-only power, and Jade would be left hanging... unless we do some mental gymnastics with the fact that in her first showing as a playable character Jade never left any afterimages during her shadow-ish attacks, she was just... fully green. So maybe unlike Shao Kahn, Nightwolf and Johnny Cage, she uses her own soul energy to enhance her attacks, like Liu Kang and Kung Lao do?
Speaking of Jade's abilities, I have always liked using the 'enchanted weapons' approach for young (lol) Edenian characters. All Edenians have some magical abilities, but Kitana's generation is a bit too distant from its divine ancestors, so Kitana, Mileena (still counts!) and Jade need to use additional tools to channel their magic. Thus, Kitana uses the fans to channel her airbending, Mileena uses sai to teleport her to where they are at any given moment and them to herself, and Jade could use her bō staff to channel... whatever she is channeling, to avoid attacks and enhance her own moves. (Funnily enough, Jade's weapon attacks were purple in MK3, so - Illusion?) Even Tanya could be using some additional tools for her fire-based moves. Just... not the staff. She stole enough from Jade. In the "MK: Annihilation" she even stole Jade's name.
Rain is obviously a whole different story because he is a son of Argus, and is therefore closer to the 'source' of magic. Speaking of, wouldn't in be interesting if all Argus' sons had some weather- or nature-themed powers, like Rain? We have so many fire-wielders, we don't really need Taven and Daegon to just throw fireballs. Make them more unique and maybe more people would want to see their return. Also, let's change them even further and make them a two-in-one character, where they have to share the same body but have different fighting styles and special moves. In that case, they could represent two sides of the same power. Netherkast guys suggested that Taven should be the god of sun based on his moves, and I like the idea, so let's use it and throw in some Sekhmet-Hathor dualism from Egyptian mythology. In one of the myths, Ra sends the goddess Hathor, in the form of Sekhmet, to destroy mortals who threaten him. What if Daegon is the evil form of Taven (the destructive sun/son vs. the one bringing life) and the real conflict of "MK: Armageddon" is the internal one? Should the new god of Edenia kill all the warriors, or should he grant mercy? And that would make Argus the god of sky - and fittingly enough, his bastard son brings rains and storms...

Nice thing that she imbues her self with fire, making her move faster, as high temperature(something that fire brings) is known to accelerate the particles(molecules) of a substance, hence it moves faster.
Didn't actually give a fuck about Tanya for a long time. I saw that a lot of people hate her, but I never gave a shit. But then I found out that she was gay and that, that was the breaking point.
You could say that jade's weapon set is her switching from bodyguard to assassin.

The Terminator comes out of mist at the LAPD in Terminator 1 and at Cyberdyne Systems Corporation in Terminator 2. The Terminator is metaphorically impaled with a stake and comes back to life in Terminator 2. Then he symbolically goes to Hell willingly.

Cynical Warlock. The4thSnake has a video on how many MK characters show their feet in the history of the series. He includes Shang Tsung and Bo, Rai Cho and even makes a joke about Shang Tsung's IN-SOULS. ODOR ANNIHILATOR. Hehe... He cuts to Bo, Rai Cho vomiting. It was an April fools video.

Cynical Warlock. Kitana and Mileena are two sides of the same coin. Perfect femininity and savage femininity. A LOT of mythology (including Nordic) presents this juxtaposition. I absolutely love CASTLEVANIA Curse of Darkness. I think it's better than Skyrim. If you would do a 💯 percent playthrough of it for me I would 👍 and ❤️ every video of it you did for me. It's actually ahead of it's time by 6 years. Riding monsters, hero GOW and Dante's Inferno. Stealing/pickpocketing enemies, before Skyrim and bird/dragon riding, before Skyrim. The Innocent Devils are loaded with tactical and combat options and you basically get every medieval weapon under the Sun. I LOVE that game.😁
Haven't played any of the Castlevanias, yet, but I've recently seen the Netflix series. Loved it.
@@CynicalWarlock Please, consider my request. You play the game as Hector, a devil forge master. Your nemesis is Isaac. Another devil forge master. The innocent devils you get throughout mainly serve as devices for level progression but their so much more than that. You get a Fairy-type, battle-type, bird-type, mage-type and devil-type. There is a sixth innocent devil, but it's just for luck. Luck matters in the game. The Fairy-type uses healing and poison. The battle-type uses combos and can lift heavy doors, even be ridden. The bird-type can carry you and even has long glide. It can also become a dragon to breathe fire and carpet bomb your enemies. The mage-type can freeze time, but can also indicate your enemies. The devil-type take you under the floor to pass through cracks in the walls, but also has a radius of destruction effect. The game is very good. Maybe you can find an emulator. It's DEFINITELY worth your while.

@@CynicalWarlock Watch CASTLEVANIA Curse of Darkness all cutscenes on RUclips. The story of the game is really good. I don't want to give away too many spoilers. The weapons, armor and innocent devils make the game as good as it is. They are a ton of fun. You can even make a Gatling gun, an electric guitar or using a frying pan as a weapon. I prefer a mace, war hammer on a bat.
Cynical Warlock. Mileena is sexy because her mask is a metaphor for something else, guess what? Sonya wore sneakers, or tennis shoes in MK1. Kitana and Mileena should wear sandals, as they are royalty. Li Mae was barefoot in MKDA. She should've been barefoot in her MKDA alternate. Only the men have sensible footwear in Mortal Kombat. Why did they make Kano, of all people in Mortal Kombat barefoot. In Shaolin Monks he's given boots. Reptile had his best design in MKDA. You should make a video about that. Do you play Skyrim?
That's a bit of a hot take about Reptile - his MKDA incarnation was very polarizing. I think it's a bold choice, and can work with a couple refinements.
I didn't even remember Kano was shoeless; that makes no sense, even for a hobo, cause first thing he'd do is steal a pair of shoes.
Never played Skyrim. Played a bit of Morrowind back in the day, but that's about it.

MKDA had some good stages. MKDA Shang Tsung looks like the historical Dracula with a beard. Nitara should've been barefoot, It would make sense, her being a vampire. Sindel makes me hate her voice actress. She's man-voiced, like China. Galmar Stone-Fist sounds better than NRS Shao Kahn. look him up. You'll laugh when you see what I mean.

I like Lords of Shadow 2, great game. I wanted him to become the big monster that he transforms into for the second round of the boss fight with Dracula in the 2-D games.

Cynical Warlock. I hate Tanya too. Mortal Kombat has too many female characters. The more you do something the less special it becomes. Sonya was fine. She was really good in Deadly Alliance. Imagine if the game had no female characters. No rampant feminism and consequently no controversy. Mileena is still my favorite. More female characters need to be barefoot in Mortal Kombat. I read the Shang Tsung foot fetishist comment on your last video. I am one. Seriously though, it would suit them better for Mortal Kombat. Instead of 4 inch heels.
For realism's sake, yes, most female characters could do away with the heels. Can still have them stand on the balls of their feet, to keep that heeled look, and have the best of both worlds.
I don't think having many female characters hurts their originality. You don't apply that same logic to the males. Only 2 genders 2 work with, can't be too picky.

What's really sad about the m1k Tanya model is that the actress that they modeled her face from is actually very beautiful in real life, NRS goes out of their way to uglify the females and to hypocritically objectify the males and it's just such bullshit. The sexier stuff that they wore back in the classic era was an integral part of their femininity and character just as much as it was for the aesthetic for their wardrobes. Between the woke political nonsense and the greedy ass microtransactions NRS is going to learn the hard way that you can only disrespect your core fan base so many times before they say screw this franchise and either move on to other things or go back to the old games
They did the same with Li Mei (and Sindel, to a degree). Once again, I can't help but note how hypocritical it is to care about 'sexualization', in a game where people rip each other's arms out and play golf with them.
I genuinely wonder if people will move on from the series. Mortal Kombat is the rare franchise that regularly attracts both old connoisseurs and young new people, so both groups would have migrate away from it, simultaneously, en masse.
