- 🔥 Uncover the Evolution of Piccolo: From Mentor to Family Confidant! 🐉Today, we explore the character development of Piccolo, one of Dragon Ball's most beloved characters and one of Akira Toriyama's favourites, whenever it's not Goku! We delve into the layers of Piccolo's narrative, moving beyond the surface-level jokes about being Gohan's "real father" to explore the profound evolution of his character within the Son family. From his origins as a vessel for revenge driven by his connection to King Piccolo, to his reluctant alliances and eventual transformation after merging with Kami, Piccolo's journey is nothing short of remarkable and of the reasons why Dragon Ball has become so beloved.
Join us as we dissect his pivotal role in the Android Saga and despite his diminished capacity in the Buu Saga, his immense sense of responsibility and emotional growth solidify him as a trusted member of the Z Fighters and a confidant for Goku and Gohan alike. But Piccolo's influence doesn't end there-post-Z, he remains an integral part of Gohan's life, symbolizing the stability and unity within the Son family.

Piccolo kills Raditz, “So Goku, I heard a position opened up to be your brother.”
Lol
Right as Goku's body disappears into the afterlife.
@@DSpiritwolfhe ranked up to Step Dad
Piccolo earned the right to be Gohan's uncle through the Klingon method.
I AM MAXMIMUM UNCLE
Piccolo went from beating up Gohan to feeling his heart skip a beat when being regarded as part of the family with Gohan as Pan's godfather.
Yeah, the "gokus brother" thing is technically an older idea than "gohans dad" i remember old fan subs translating gohans "piccolo san" as "uncle piccolo"
A better one to and not cringe
@saadsami8860 being ing his dad wasn't cringe while it remained a joke. But of course enough time and people and its ruined
Yeah, in my country's dub, Gohan calls him Uncle Piccolo, too.
One of the greatest characters in dragon ball. He started as a world domination obsessed psycho following in the footsteps of his dad to one of the most loyal friends Goku could ask for and the greatest mentor Gohan could ask for. The transformation he went through was really something
I feel like he's one of the greatest written characters in Dragon Ball, and he's got a very unique design too
Technically he was his dad due to being called KP's reincarnation, but you're right on the money otherwise. Going from being the embodiment of evil to merging with his other half and insuring future generations are fighting fit is one hell of a character arc.
Truly a great father to Gohan.
I wouldn’t mind handing control of the world to him lol.
That panel of Piccolo, Toriyama's favorite character, waving goodbye hits hard, man...
Toriyama himself did it, too.
Honestly the most perfect send off imaginable.
Piccolo really is a amazing character.
He was created to be Goku's downfall and to dominate the world yet ended up becoming a trusted ally, friend, protector and mentor to the Son Family and the world he sought to conquer.
It all comes full circle in GT too, he decides to go with Earth instead of saving himself.
Piccolo; Father, uncle, grandfather, and an all-around bro. Geez, I sound like an epitaph…
Piccolo the father that stepped up
Masako: “piccolo was only 8 years old when he fought Raditz”
Vegeta: HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Lets not forget that in Super, piccolo knew all of Pans likes and dislikes and was even lecturering goku on how to handle her 😂
Oh yeah, definitely co-parenting out here man😂
Not just Goku but Chi-chi too. Piccolo is like Pan’s fairy godfather
Idc what anyone says, Piccolo has more than proved that he’s Goku’s TRUE right hand man.
I really hope Toyotaro tries to do right by Toriyama’s favorite character by keeping him relevant.
Piccolo was a farther no one asked for but the one people should be grateful to get epically in a unfortunate circumstance. From living anti christ the guy only cared for evil and tyranny just as his farther before him but instead he grew up and unlike his farther he started to value in caring for others. He was a lonely kind in the rain now he has one of the biggest families ever. From training Gohan to preparing Gotenks them babysitting Pan. He proved he had a heart for such conviction and loyalty to the enemies he was once despised. He was a great poster boy for character development and growth. A person who deserves to get a hug at the end of the day
Look, i don't know what emotional distance you have with your dad, but it's spelled father
I don't have any emotional distance with my dad. I understand the spelling error however please refrain yourself from speaking about my personal life I do not know you nor do you know me. So please butt out and mind your own business unless it is related on the subject of this video
@@hatbatable wasn't a personal attack, just that you repeatedly used a word for distance instead of father makes it seem like you're distant and passive aggressively showing it
No offense was intended, just a bad joke
When I was growing up reading Dragon Ball, I always enjoyed the amazing fights of Goku, the pride and utter ego of Vegeta... but it was always Piccolo that I always looked to as my role model.
As soon as his redemption hit we got so much good content with him. Him being the team strategist, having some of the most important roles in the fight despite getting none of the limelight, and his growing relations with the Son family and the rest of the Z fighters.
He's broken so far from his father/previous incarnation that he's his own character.
But one of my favorite moments actually came from GT, where in order to save Goku and the Earth he gives up his afterlife in heaven by causing some destruction and tricking Yema.
After the dust clears and he sees the other terrified souls, he regrettably says "Sorry."
As I grow older my favorite character has become Piccolo and I'm not surprised in the least. 😃
Masako: we going over all piccolos memorable moments
Me: All OF THEM!
7:10 I prefer Piccoro being this uncle figure for Gohan than father, I always percived the character in that position, it fits well.
honestly my opinion on Piccolo being Gohan's Dad changed, He's more like Gohan's Big Brother
Today's is my Birthday masako! Turning 25! What a way to make it better than with Big Green love! 💚💚💚💚🙏🙏🙏🎂🎂🎂🎂
Happy birthday
Congratulations🥳🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Happy Birthday Danny boy
I always loved that scene in Super with the wedding photo. Aside from the hilarity of it, the photo is clearly the photo with the bridegroom's family as we can see Goku, Goten and bit of Chichi offscreen, so the fact Piccolo is in there shows they truly regard him as part of their family.
Honestly, both Piccolo AND Goku feel like Gohan's father. They both fullfill that role in different ways that compliment each other.
This is how I always felt. They're both his fathers.
Piccolo being Gohan's real dad hasn't gotten old, and never will :)
Piccolo is the main reason why I negate GT from continuity, with Android 17 as the second reason. That show did them dirty, their fight was awesome and Piccolo is still my favorite character in the show.
I agree, gt was the best time to pushed android 17 and piccolo. It made no sense to use Android 17 as villian where he should've been a hero especially with super 17 saga.
@@maroon9273Well, at least 17 ended up being a hero in the Tournament of Power.
Agreed
The very green, large heart of the family
Unlike Goku, Piccolo did eventually get his driver's license.
Now he drives a DODGE!
Thank you for this video Masako. Piccolo has really grown from being created from his father to destroy Goku to becoming a close family member and mentor to the Son Family. I would say Piccolo’s future is watching over Gohan descendants and Goten’s descendants!
Im just realising masakoX is 50k subs to "What if Vegeta turned good". Im suddenly hyped for no discernable reason.
It's kind of crazy how both Goku and Piccolo used to be enemies and look at them now being part of the family, Piccolo sure had more feelings towards the Son Family, But that doesn't mean Goku has no feelings towards the family, but Piccolo feels more responsible, since he had a big bond with Gohan and soon the same goes for Pan, And knowing the fact that Piccolo in this chapter is actually pretty upset of Goku not remembering Pan just to show you how much Piccolo has changed as a person, I can definitely see why Piccolo is Toriyama's favorite.
And let's not forget that his design is actually badass, especially with the cape
@@ArchonKujo Piccolo's design is just Timeless
the thing with Goku forgetting Pan is very OoC writing.
i wish it's just a joke that makes no sense in english. Pan means Bread.
@@ghoulchan7525 Oh, _that's_ the joke?
@@LoraLoibu before the chapter and translation came out. people just had some raw text so people speculated it was a joke.
Piccolo said he and Gohan had to pick up pan. and Goku was like "Bread?". but yeah now with the translation and full text, it's Ha ha Goku forgot his grand daughter. which is Out of Character.
crazy to think how our favourite monkey boy's once greatest enemy became one of his closest allies and basically became a fused god whom even shenron has tremendous respect for.
Big green apreciation! The father who stepped up! The green hearth of the family! One of the best examples of character development: from wanting to conquer the world and beign mortal enemies with Goku to beign one of the most loyal of Goku's friends and the best mentor gohan could have asked for! Awesome! 💚💚💚💚💚
Piccolo was the Uncle Scrouge of the Son Family in the Dragon Ball series.
Great video! Piccolo is my favorite character!
Piccolo from the jump was always going to be one of the best characters to appear in the franchise who only got better as it progressed whereas most people would just stagnate. I am glad he was a part of the show & that Toriyama made him❤
I am and always will be a Vegeta guy, but I really appreciate Piccolo's arc and how different it is than Vegeta's. Watching him take the lead in Super Hero and perform so well was a real treat.
I feel like Piccolo has the "fatherhood sacrifice" thing going with the Son family. Where it feels good to be strong enough to take on a little more of the family burden so your family doesn't have to.
Makes sense Piccolo will be watching over that family lineage for generations to come
Picollo the Uncle Grandad we all deserve
The only thing I'd say is a missed opportunity regarding Piccolo is that we never see him encounter King Piccolo. Even if it were filler, I would have liked for Piccolo to find the soul of his father in the Otherworld. Or, if Junior is meant to have the same soul as King Piccolo (which seems unclear), he could have had a vision of his former self while meditating. It would have been interesting seeing King Piccolo's reaction to the decile, decent man Junior became, and hearing Junior's justification for it.
Very nice video. Piccolo is just the Best x3
Piccolo will always be my favorite DB character.
Piccolo is the unofficial uncle that's just best friends with your dad. Everyone loves.that guy
4:34 the reason he acts adult is cause piccolo really is 100’s of years old, he just got a new body with the same soul and memories
Piccolo
From worst enemy to best dad
Glad to finally hear someone say would I’ve been saying forever. Piccolo is NOT Gohan’s father figure but rather more like a close uncle who was there for him even when his real father was absent.
The multiple views of age concerning Piccolo is always an interesting thing that is never explored enough. Mentally a few centuries. Physical an older teen to early 20s or 30s. Emotionally somewhere around 7. Years of existing post King....well as stated, around 8 when first teaming up with Goku. He looks like an adult, and has the wisdom of a Kami...so he is treated as such, but he isn’t really. He’s still learning and growing up, absorbing the influence and information from those around him. Glad he has found family.
The "Piccolo is Gohan's real dad" meme originates from the remastered Funimation Dub scene of Piccolo's sacrifice to save Gohan from Nappa. He says "you're like the son I never had" to Gohan.
good vid
Nice video
The driving episode is canon in my books. Goku is shown driving a car before the cell games in the manga. therefore, he had to at some point get a license, and thus, the driving episode must have happened. Post-boy piccolo is real
Demon King becomes a kind hearted babysitter?
I'd say that's classic Toriyama subversion.
I do think Piccolo is like a father to Gohan, but not in the “REAL” father meme kind of way. Gohan just has both a real father and a father figure
It never occurred to me until this video how much Piccolo has in common with Venom
“He maybe your father but he wasn’t your daddy” -Yondu
This sums up the the relationship between Goku Gohan and Piccolo very nice thanks marvel.
To be Loved is to be Changed
People always talk about Pan’s potential but they never mention Bulla. She has more potential than anyone. She should be the future main character.
I think Piccolo should be considered the honerary older brother of Gohan as he's only about 3 years older than him, so tough loving older brother and soft uncle of Pan seems like my perspective on Piccolo, as Goku is an adult when he first fought Piccolo, so Goku was basically fighting a toddler. Piccolo is basically a older brother figure to Gohan.
After that statement where it seems Piccolo took the place of Raditz...
...I truly could see a lot of things Raditz could've been doing if he took Piccolo's place in all honesty...
Nail: Did our hearts just skip a beat??
Kami: That is PRECIOUS.
Piccolo: Yeah, whatever. I gotta go pick Pan up from school.
Piccolo is more of a loving uncle
Considering the design, the turn around, and the maintained pragmatic amoral logic, I always considered Magus the proto-Piccolo, even if Toriyama was mainly only art on that, the timing seems too on point.
Piccolo is like: can I fix this family?
In the Philippine dub, Gohan calls Piccolo "Tito" which means Uncle. Never made sense to me until this video
I always see Piccolo as a brother figure to Gohan rather than to Gokū. He's like that one family friend who's noticably older than the eldest son, but not quite young enough to fit in their family dynamic so he ended up forming a close friendship with both the father and the son. In a way, he's a great mediator between Gokū and Gohan BECAUSE of his age.
you also forgot he is a grill master who makes the bunny go hop hop
If your gonna do this masterpiece Masako. Please give us episode 10 of what if piccolo had a son
Don’t interrupt the grill master
while I don't know about namekian lifespans, I hope there's always a Piccolo to help defend the universe
Joke? Piccolo was the one who pretty much raised Gohan so I'm not getting the punchline.
Piccolo: The Kami Father.
First comment I’m obviously the biggest fan
And not one mention of the Clothes Beam heh
Put simply, Piccolo is what Ox King should have been, except I’m assuming Toriyama, RIP, forgot about him as well.
Technically Goku is more Piccolo's Father and King Piccolo being the mom, Seeing as Goku Penetrated, and King Piccolo gave birth.
And also.. Piccolo "ate For Free"? Namekians only drink water. Piccolo tried Eating a fish that one time as a kid but realized it wasn't for him.
They can eat regular food, it's more of a social aspect for them, but they really only need water for nourishment
Did you already do a "what if" series regarding "what if the 25th Tenkaichi Budoukai hadn't been interrupted"?
Catch yuh LATER!!!!!❤
Goku used penetrate fist on demon king piccolo, which resulted in piccolo jr being born soon after. Could Goku be jr's dad, making piccolo and gohan more like brothers?
Huh, how very interesting how things have developed.
I wonder what’s next?
Also, i wonder what the Demon King would think of this development?
Now brother piccolo got to go to shenron and make a wish. Brother piccolo found him a beautiful woman that loves kids like he does.
Hear me out… What if Piccolo had a girlfriend or got with Chi-Chi.
Sure Namekians don’t have females, but Piccolo was raised on Earth so his thinking is probably some different.
You can pair Piccolo up with Janet! They have good chemistry.
He already has a lady friend in Janet.
Piccolo is only four years older than Gohan
That’s like saying Future Gohan is Future Trunk’s real dad.
Is it just the lighting? You look a bit frazzled. You good bro?
So it's not Piccolo Jr but
SON Piccolo Jr
Wait... Piccolo being Gohan's real father was supposed to be a joke? 0.o;
Son picollo
I just can't see the "uncle" or "big brother" role in regards to Gohan like some say, everything Piccolo does and their dialogue feels like a strict mentor and father figure to Gohan
I think it's very possible to claim Piccolo is a father figure to Gohan without claiming Goku is a bad dad. They act like different types of fathers.
@@matti.8465 If anything, Goku acts more like a big brother to Gohan, lol
0:15 thank you, half the jokes stopped being funny
Except Yamcha, I enjoy using him as a verb
Piccolo being gohan real dad neverbgot old unlesd your a butt hurt goku apologies
Piccolo is more like a uncle
There is a smudge on your camera lens
