The end from when they charge at each other to the Samurai dying gazing at the sea. Is a very philosophical moment. The main character choosing peace instead of hate, the Samurai staying true to his honor. To see him pass away looking toward the sea, where Japan is. It's very inspiring!

yeah, the samurai were kind of death cultists. He was basically wearing a deathrobe(the white kimono) so he figured he was dead from the start. The Chinese guy found love in this movie and had something to live for.

FINALLY!!! Someone else appreciates this movie! I saw this movie in my youth one night. I woke up and it was on TV and it got my attention due to the honor these men had with each other and the way the fight took on a more-realistic sense (meaning basically losing body parts in a sword fight). When I saw this movie, there was no internet yet and American TV did not show such brutal fights on regular TV back then so this was a shock to me. Every once in a while, I still think about this movie; yet, I had no idea about its title.
    Thanks Midnight Pulp!

the 80s swordsmanship is more like a transition from 60/70s to the 90s, the character's costum looks like 70s, but the camera movement at shots are similar to the 90s.

Very true. But I'd say Norman Chu's samurai is a lot more three dimensional compared to the standard "Japanese villain" in Hong Kong cinema at the time. The arc for this Japanese "antagonist", if you can even call him that, is actually way ahead of its time. Gotta cut some slack for the production, it is a lot easier working with non-foreign actors at that time.
