As a NICU nurse- I baptized any preemie that was in danger of dying. Unfortunately, many of those preemies did die. It was many years ago, when we did not have the medical advances we have today. I always felt in my heart that it was the right thing to do.
I wanted to baptize my grandchildren as well. This explanation makes so much sense!!!! It's very painful to have raised your children well in the church and made sure they recieved all their Sacraments and then they don't do the same with their children.
I have the burden of being raised pagan, my mother was a pagan hippy. She took me to Catholic Church when I was 14 and I was confirmed, but within a year I think, she left the church, ruined the priest and went back to being pagan. I came back to the Church seeing the error of my ways last year. It was a long road. I raised my children pagan, my son is now atheist. I want and have been teaching my grandchildren the catechism how to pray and pray the rosary, against my son's wishes. My daughter-in-law is ok with it. But neither are practicing Christians although she believes. Her father is evangelical. I pray for my family regularly. My husband an ex Lutheran professed agnostic, now says he prays, but refuses to take me to church. I have no other way to church so I watch Father Mike and Father Chris. But I worry myself along with my family is damned because I didn't raise my children in the Church.

God bless you Father. It's painful to have small grandchildren not baptised. We will continue to pray for their parents and keep believing in the love of God for them all. He longs for them to return even more than we do!
Thank you so much Father Allen. I wondered about this same discussion. I could never get a strait answer. I have seen newborn babies Baptized in the kitchen of a person's home just before the baby passed away. Thank you and Bless you Father.
Thank you Father. We had our daughter 'emergency baptized' when born by a non Catholic minister before she was transferred to Riley Children's Hospital. Many prayers answered. We were able to have her baptized in Catholic church by Priest months later.
Excellent, very well done and with great insight and understanding. This is something i needed to hear and you answered all my questions. It is obvious the Holy Spirit was with you in this video.
I was baptized but strayed from God and the church as a young teenager but came back to the Lord on 9/11 but when my children were born when I was not living a life in God and never had my children baptized. For the last 20 years I have been trying to get my daughter to attend mass get baptized and live a life pleasing to God but she refuses because she is angry I didn't have her baptized as a child. I have been very sick with heart , blood pressure, M.S. Raynauds and other sicknesses and pray I don't die before seeing my children baptized.
Keep faith in Jesus Christ….as Father said before the end of this video, (remember, no soul is beyond my mercy (Jesus) Continue to pray and believe what God can do because there’s nothing impossible for God! I too raised my 3sons in the church and sent them to catholic schools….we have now 7 beautiful grandchildren but no baptisms. This will not make me sick…Jesus I trust in You! Mary also is an amazing and powerful intercessor! Pray the rosary and Divine Mercy! God Bless!❤️
Praise be Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior! When my children were small I was told that my Children could not be baptized in the Church because I married through the J.O. P. When my children were 1 and 2.5 their grandfather, a Deacon in The Catholic Church baptized my children and said that it was a real and true baptism. I raised my children catholic thinking they were baptized in the Catholic faith. A Priest recently told me those were not valid baptismal’s. What is the canon that speaks to this? Praise be Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior!
It sounds like their baptisms weren't _licit_ but were valid. If their grandfather, as deacon, used the proper prayers of exorcism and anointing, then according to what was described in this video, at least as far as I understand it, it was a valid complete Rite of Baptism. But if he did it without permission of the Bishop, it's probably not licit. I think, from what I've studied, that a valid Sacrament carries grace for the person who receives the Sacrament, even if the Sacrament isn't given licitly, but the minister of the Sacrament who knowingly administers it illicitly has to answer to God, either directly (at death) or through his superiors - his bishop and the pope (in life), for his disobedience.
In Canada we are told that a Deacon can baptize…..he cannot say Mass (but can do the homily) and cannot hear confessions and confer holy orders. I tend to agree with the aforementioned that most likely their baptisms werent’ licit …but valid!
When I taught religious education, First Communion, out of 20 children, only about 5 went to Sunday Mass. I asked a parent why they weren't taking their child to mass and was told that they didn't have time with little league and sports. I let her know that our Church had 7 masses at different times, perhaps one of those times would work. Don't know if they ever went, since our church does not require proof of attendance. I was sadden with the thought that some parents just get the sacraments for their children, so they could have a celebration or get the sacrament over with. This is an example of not following through with raising a child in the Catholic religion.
@@ccbarr58 It was not the Children's fault, but the parents. And they were never sent away at our church. The word not welcome is not a Catholic belief. Many blessings.
This was my question. My grandchildren haven't been baptized but my son is atheist and refuses to "brainwash" his kids or let me. Their mother says she wants them baptized but my son is adamant.
Thank you so much for asking. Actually, only one parent has to desire it and the children can be baptized. The other parent is not required to consent. God bless
This is very helpful! But I do have a query... My son’s bestfriend (14yrs old) has just opened up to me about demonic attacks he feels that is occuring at his home in his room. Over the last 2 yrs as he has stayed over on oaccssions, he has begun to desire become a catholic. He opened up recently to me about his deep fears, and he denies having been involved in any occult rituals. But he has watched paranormal shows continually for years. He has asked me if he can become Catholic, however his parents are of different denominations within christianity. He has the desire... i can see it. Is he protected by Baptism of Desire? This would be a very helpful topic... in thenmeantime I have armed him w sacramentals, prayers, rosary and St Benedict medals, exorcise holy water and salt.
Thank you all...Divine Fathers of The Immaculate Conception. Can you explain the teaching in The Hours reading... Mary and The Church....passed on by The Earlly Church Fathers....How do the New FATHERS of Holy Church teach this Now? If The Head And The Body are Truly.....ONE in PERPETUAL DIVINE MERCY through Jesus. Is not John 17 realized?
This is why ordinarily Clergy administer a Baptism. Only under extreme circumstances like the child is dying and the parent/guardian isn't present and you know for certain that the child is Unbaptized than it would be acceptable for Laity to Baptize in fact it would be an act of love.
As a boy in England Children were normally baptised soon after birth in Church but anyone could baptise a baby in danger of death For example even an adult in a serious accident without a priest Let's face it nobody knows how parents no matter how religious they seem will influence their children or not When my wife became Catholic the priest simply performed an if you are not baptised already type in case her protestant baptism wasn't done right because you can't be baptised twice It's also important for the Church to have a record of who is and isn't baptised so not ideal to have anyone and everyone doing it
To be baptized as a Catholic, one needs at least one designated godparent. Talk to your parish priest about having another member of the parish to be your child's godparent.
What is done for service to the Lord, He sees and He knows the love of a parent or grandparent and God our Father understands. If holy water or chrism oil happens to land on a forehead and while cleaning up the spill a baptismal prayer is recited will our Father turn a blind eye? I know He won't. Out of your love for that person your prayers of love will be recorded and because He is always faithful to our prayers of love He will stand on them in good faith. I know that as a firm believer and follower of Christ Jesus. I read my bible and I know my Father's heart and it is one of love always.
My roommate is not Catholic but Lutheran, but desires to be baptized asap. Can I, as a Catholic, baptize him using the Church's formula? I know and seen that some Protestants baptize " in the name of the father, and of the son, and holy spirit". He doesn't follow organized religion, but DOES BELIEVE IN GOD AND THAT JESUS IS THE WAY TO HEAVEN, AND SERIOUSLY DESIRES TO GET BAPTIZED. I TOLD HIM THAT AS LONG AS A PERSON SINCERELY DESIRES IT, ANYONE CAN DO IT
I baptized my goddaughter’s son in the womb. I baptized my Jewish husband whom I received dispensation to marry. No way I’m letting them be lost. That’s exception number 3 to Ruke 858 - no way am I doing nothing when I could baptize.
What about an adult that is unconscious and with no chance of recovery? This person had never been baptized and, although believing in God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, wouldn't commit to formal religion due to believing that, as an alcoholic, they were unworthy. I sincerely feel that, had they been conscious, and aware of their imminent death, they would have gladly consented but a priest was not available.
I don’t know how things work out, but I can’t believe we would have a child miss out on the chance to go to heaven, so we would rather have them go to hell just because you are not the parent. That sounds scary to me. There are people in communist China and other countries who have underground churches because they found the truth and risk their lives to worship God. I think we should honor God, more than religious beliefs. I I secretly babtise my grandkids and they make it to heaven. When we all get to heaven I think God will say ‘thank you for doing that, otherwise this little soul would have not made it to heaven. We are talking about life and death here guys, and may I remind you, hell is permanent. We must be willing to risk our lives to save as many souls as possible, especially our loved ones. That’s why saints of old were persecuted because they wanted to save souls from going to hell. I know this will be critiqued, but I also know that it might save 1 granny who will risk it and take her grandkids on the narrow path to heaven, who knows they might make it to heaven.
It seems to me that the Church is not truly recognizing the great power of Baptism by placing "any" restrictions on it. Christ said, "Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.". Mark 10:13-16. In that the Church recognizes Baptism by other faiths why does it place the demand that the parents agree to raise the child as a Catholic? Is it not most important to bring the child into the grace of Baptism and then do the best we can to lead them into the Church? Isn't that in fact exactly that which occurs with 100% of Baptisms? Sadly, in this day and age, many of our children have fallen away, despite our best effort and constant prayer. Canon Law "is not" the word of God, and can/should be changed.
@@kimfleury I don't know. One translation I found said "they" and another "people". The only place I found "parents" was in the New Living Translation (which tends to put things in modern terms).
I agree. These churches want to keep members joining for when they pass the collection plate around. I've had several churches pull the same crap on me. John the Baptist never adhered to any such "rules" and Jesus chose to be baptised by him. The Bible teaches that baptism pleases the Lord, so I'm pretty sure any man placing himself and his "requirements" between the two is NOT doing the Lord's work, that's just common sense- which SO MANY people seem to be lacking these days, as well as critical thinking. Just look at Susan's comment: "The wisdom of the Church is never in error." WHAT?! The wisdom of God is never in error, NOT the church(es).
