1c especially has some fantastic episodes, the whole devil and ms chalice trilogy of episodes were incredible and definitely showed the highs the show could go.
YES FINALLY SOMEONE TALKED ABOUT BATTLE KITTY YES THANK YOU NICKTENDO it deserves SO much more recognition than it currently has. It's SO funny and unique, and the story is amazing. It's disappointing to know it might never get a second season because Netflix hates good things
Louder and Prouder was a welcome surprise for me. As someone who loved the original show, I felt it carried over a lot of what made the series so memorable. Like, sometimes it'll tell a grounded story about coming of age, and the next thing you know, Al Roker is this terrifying being from another dimension trying to steal your soul. It didn't miss a beat there.
Hey! I worked on Battle Kitty, thank you for watching and reviewing our show! So much work goes into all of these shows and it's nice that you took the time and gave each one a chance, and spread the word of their existence! Hopefully, more people will give our show and the others on this list a try too - looking forward to watching more reviews of yours in the future 🐱
Thank you for the nice comment! I've gotten tons of messages from people who either watched Battle Kitty and were happy to see it here or were inspired to give it a shot. Glad you liked what you saw!
I put battle kitty on for my little brother to watch and ended up watching the rest by myself, I loved the characters and the jokes. I only wish I could forget it to re experience it all over again, truly thank you for contributing to the show :D
At least slippin’ Jimmy has the not deserved honor of being part of the breaking bad universe (even if I consider it not cannon), which is the universe with the funny bald man cooking meth and the funny man saying BITCH
Surprised you didn't mention that Battle Kitty actually has a lot of OK K.O alumni. Same voice director and character designer and many of the same writers and storyboarders. When I saw the credits, I lost my mind at the awesome people that worked on it.
Perpetually impressed with both the music choices and the volume mixing in these videos. Also 100% agree on Bee and PuppyCat. Vibes> everything else, even if it means that its ambitious plot is sometimes sacrificed a little. Great video, although I definitely missed hearing your thoughts on returning shows.
I really like this format. It allowed you to highlight a lot of shows that normally would slip through the cracks. Also, fun fact: the Kung Fu Panda shows have had a different Emperor of China in each, since none of them are canon with each other or the movies. Though I think Paws of Destiny is easily the strongest out of the three shows.
@@NICKtendoReviews oh I greatly apologize. Michael is a legend in their own right. Btw got to the part where you brought the show up, makes me wanna listen to as much of the soundtrack as i can find again. Great video so far Nick! Finding out about a ton of new shows i never even heard of thanks to it!
Nicktendo, we had our ups and many downs in animation. instead of cartoons I just wanna say this year was a fun year of comedy from Nicktendo, his videos got funnier and funnier throughout 2022. Thank you nick
Even though Tuca and Bertie's last season was a bit shaky, it deserved a much better send off than what it got. It's sad not many people covered it while it was on.
I really love your humor in all your videos, you don't linger on the humor or let it detract from your reviews, but it's still very there. I've always lurked but I've been really into your channel as of lately. Great stuff!
Given that Sonic Prime is about Sonic traveling through the multiverse, it would be awesome for the show to have Sonic vist the Sonic SatAm universe. I'd imagine it to be like the TMNT 2012/TMNT 1987 crossover in a way.
A lot of shows do 16-episode orders and split them into 2 "seasons". It allows studios to market a show as successful enough for 2 "seasons", while also avoiding the necessity to renegotiate contracts with employees working on the show that would normally happen every new season. Pantheon is one of those shows. Season 2's already done, just without a network.
21:13 Couldn't be more true I was rewatching your OK KO retrospective earlier today and am drawing OK KO stuff right now as I watch. I miss it so much.
1. Supernatural Academy looking like a Disney cartoon probably stems from how the series is animated by Icon Creative Studios in their first ever adult cartoon. They're mainly known for animating Disney Junior shows such as Goldie And Bear, Elena Of Avalor, TOTS, The Rocketeer, Alice's Wonderland Bakery, and Firebuds. Even their work outside of Disney is usually kids shows, such as Transformers EarthSpark and the Netflix preschool shows Action Pack and Super Monsters (the latter of which carries the same director, producer, and mostly similar voice cast as Supernatural Academy). 2. Peter Hastings co-created Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight. He also developed the 2011 series Kung Fu Panda: Legends Of Awesomeness, a show that had similar complaints on Po's character not being written well. He's definitely better with wacky, episodic comedies like Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs, Pinky And The Brain, and the Captain Underpants show. Interestingly, the Amazon series Kung Fu Panda: The Paws Of Destiny is the most well liked Kung Fu Panda show, but has a similar complaint over Shifu and the Furious Five not being there. 3. The animated Monster High show is developed by Shea Fontana, in her third series with Mattel. She previously developed the 2015 DC Superhero Girls series with Warner Brothers Animation and the 2018 Polly Pocket series with Wildbrain. Elements of those shows are present here, such as the older kid audience and high school setting of the former, and the trio dynamic of the latter (the main trio of Clawdeen, Draculaura, and Frankie is similar to the trio of Polly, Shani, and Lila).
Man. This was a really good vid. Very ambitious to look at every animated show this year. I feel like if this were done a decade to 13 years back it wouldn’t be so hard or infuriating, just because the streaming services are like option paralysis. Like back in 2010 as a kid I used to watch every cartoon out, even if I hated it. But now as an adult, I have to be very careful of what I watch because there’s just tooooo much going on in western animation. I feel like to reference the advice you wanted to ask for a 2023-2024 version would be just to make the video at a later date, like March, so you can actually process each show and see the entire season and see which works and which doesn’t. Just cuz hypothetically, a show could have a strong opening season but the mid to end of the season sucks, and vice versa. But this was a top notch review, and I hope you’re having an awesome 2023
Can you believe there were like a dozen less shows that debuted in 2022 compared to 2021? I get what you mean about giving myself more time to see where each show goes, but I feel like a good chunk of these won’t get another season. Also some seasons were 6 episodes and others were 16 episodes so limiting it to one season kept things somewhat fair. I do think I should’ve given myself the opportunity to watch another Season of Cuphead or The Dragon Knight cause they left mixed first impressions. I definitely have an idea on how to cover more returning shows while sticking with this structure. Part of whether or not I’ll return to this idea hinges on if the number of shows that release don’t reach the 30s again. Thanks for your comment, I always appreciate seeing what you have to say!
I binged all of Daniel Spellbound in like one night, and it works best watched all at once like a really long movie. The past was fast enough that I didn’t get bored but not too fast that it was overwhelming. I’m looking forward to the second season and inevitable canceled 3rd season
i really do commend you for wading through SOOO much animation... like recently i haven't been someone who's able to sit down and watch something and focus my ALL my attention on it and nothing else, especially if it's something that doesn't catch my interest at all the way you say some of the examples here fail to for you,, you're doing very important work tbh. like genuinely having your reviewal of everything in one place for one year in a single video is so informative but you also keep it fun to watch!! great job as always ^_^
After watching this video, I decided to give Battle Kitty a shot and wow its one of the greatest shows ive watched on netflix in a long time. I was so surprised to see how utterly underrated it is.. I'm hoping real bad a season 2 can happen. Thank you for introducing me to it, and for making a great video.
Disney+ has been killin' it with their animated series: Louder and Prouder, Baymax!, Cars On the Road, I Am Groot, Zootopia+(some not all of it) and Scrat Tales! And I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan as I've only seen the original trilogy, prequel trilogy, the first two movies of the sequel trilogy because everyone keeps telling me how bad The Rise of Skywalker is, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Andor, the first three episodes of Kenobi before giving up and random episodes of CG Clone Wars. But I've heard good things about Tales of the Jedi but haven't seen it.
Will say I’m really thankful for you giving the Nick shows a fair shot here. While their schedules remain absolute garbage I do think the quality in Nick Animation’s productions are going up.
So much of these are Netflix series I've never even heard of... of course part of it is Netflix being bad at marketing, but at the same time jeez you can see why they did some tragic cuts last year
11:50 ah yes LOVED The Cuphead Show not only did I get the game of Cuphead for Christmas but the show itself felt like a nice throwback to those Old School Cartoons from the 30's One of Netflix's best Cartoons
Glad someone mentioned BotBots feels like that one got really drowned out by other stuff this year. Which is a shame because I liked it way more than I expected I would. Also great video I love lists like this since they spot light stuff I normally would have never heard about before.
Alicorns are actually a combination of the three main pony races, they also have Earth pony strength and their innate magic, though for some reason g5 completely rerconned the fact Earth ponies have their own magic alongside unicorns and pegasi and I genuinely don’t know why since it’s a direct continuity from g4
My young cousin watched that new mlp show when she visited me the other day, and my god, THEY WOULD NOT STOP TALKING. I know there's supposed to be a lot of dialogue on a tv show, but there was never a major break between lines. Gotta keep the viewer's attention!
I'm glad I checked this video out. Now I have a bunch of new shows I'd never heard of I wanna check out. Those being Dead end paranormal park, daniel spellbound, little demon, oni thunder god's tale, transformers botbots and el deafo.
10:08 OH! So you're a Big Nate fan too, apparently. 👍 Neat. I watched the show too and thought it was fine, but there was too much gross out humor. Regardless, the CGI characters have a decent stop motion animation and has fun with mixed media. Emulating the drawings from the books as well.
I watched a handful of the Netflix ones, so it was cool to hear an opinion on those. I'm super interested in Hamster and Gretel, but Netflix and Prime Video are the only streaming services we have, so there's a lot I've missed over the years. I saw a preview of Botbots and hated it, so I never gave the show a chance, but after this video, maybe I should. I also avoided the interactive Kitty show, because from the previews I saw, I didn't like the personalities of the main characters. But I might have to watch just for the interesting animation. Oni is definitely on my to-watch list, and I should be starting it soon. One thing I started doing this year is ONLY watching 1 episode of a show per week. It makes shows last so much longer and I end up appreciating them a lot more as a result. I get a whole week to process the last episode and I often find myself thinking about the events of the last episode, and theorizing what could happen in the next one. It really changes your entire perspective of a show when you refuse to binge and just wait. I know it isn't possible for a video like this, where you have to watch and cover so many shows though, lol. And just for people who do stuff like this in general. Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight felt like its own thing separate from the movies. I don't think it's supposed to be canon, and approaching it from that mindset helped me enjoy it a lot more. I really liked how Po, while occasionally bumbling, was depicted as such a Kung Fu master, and was able to influences Blade throughout the series. Klaus and Veruca were very interesting characters to me, and it was always exciting to see another piece of their character, motivation, and backstory. They were probably my favorite part of the whole show. The second season just came out last week, and I'm actually watching the 2nd episode tonight! Very intrigued to see where they go with it.
43:23 I luaghed so hard when i heard this music, like it doesent just slighly sound like kahoot music but like its so close i would fit PERFECTLY into the "game"
The issue I had with the Bee and Puppet Cat having season 1 condense into three episodes is that they rushed Derkard and Bee development and the "twist"! I get they didn't want to redo the Lazy in Space to make the season 1 flow better but still, maybe they should of done season 1 into five episodes instead?
There’s 2 cartoons that kinda carried Netflix for kids 2022. Cuphead show, and sonic prime. With Disney, they had some pretty good ones with hamster and gretel carrying because it was from a known writer/director, the god, Dan Povenmire.
Thanks Nicktendo of sharing this video while getting started this year. While last year that I can’t stand any cancellations and mergers ruined us, at least hoping we’ll get better things soon. That’s just me, but still.
What a nice list, I cant wait for almost all these shows to be cancelled in two weeks due to greedy and quite frankly bizarre corporate decisions before they can find their own footing in the landscape of animation :]
really glad I stumbled into this video, introduced me to some pretty good shows that I’m binging rn (really liking battle kitty, planning on watching botbots later)
I really appreciated the effort and time it went into this video. Especially with how disrespected modern animations get from studios. Subscribed and going through your older videos now.
2:36 Another great use of sign language in a children's show was Blue's Clues. It was one of the first preschool shows to utilize sign language and portray deafness.
Smiling Friends is clearly the magnum opus of the year! Pd: This is technically a 2018 show, and released overseas on 2019 But seems the hype surrounding it took place this year… Nick, what do you think about Bluey? (If you've seen it, of course)
I watched some new and slightly older shows on Netflix back in September when I was apartment sitting for my sister, Dead End and Bee and PuppyCat being a part of that group; I *loved* Dead End and... was frustrated with BaPC... I watched the first few episodes back in the day (on 3DS lol) and it was fine just... I don't know, something was bugging me about Lost in Space. I watched the whole thing but I wasn't really enjoying my time with it by the end, I probably won't be watching next season (I will look at spoilers though)
Watching the original dnd campaign before the animated show definitely makes the legend of vox machina feel more rewarding, but that being said it’s a massive time sync and I don’t blame anyone for not being willing to watch it all. Most fans of the og materials consensus so far is that it’s been a faithful adaptation thats managed to condense the campaign and one of its most influential arcs nicely into season 1 with a few tweaks here and there to help it out. As someone who’s been a long time fan of cr I recommend watching season 2 (with the first 3 eps being out today!) if you’ve started to like this found family group, things only get better from here :)
I think it would be funny if an episode of bot bots start with a battle between a few autobots and deceptions destroy a corner of the mall and just see where it goes
When I saw an image of Slippin' Jimmy, I thought it was a silly meme parody thing. I wish I was right lol. This was a cool thing that let me know about shows that I hadn't heard of. Sometimes for good reason but now I know Battle Kitty exists. I got a backlog of stuff to get through that looks good. I did watch Big Nate and Dead End though which I really liked. I've seen others but those stand out the most. (I like Make Your Mark and Hamster & Gretel even if they're not ideal versions of what they could be, Hamster's gonna stop after season 2 anyway)
Even though the girl who liked Beavis was a legit crazy person I was still irritated at Butthead for misleading Beavis into believing that she wasn’t into him even though Beavis could’ve potentially scored with a chick
I actually like that gave some decent emotion or character to their dynamic. As for the Paramount Plus show, B&B doesn't seem to miss a beat. It's just as stupid and humorous as the old show (or the 2011 revival).
39:49 i need my plus sized bee back and the cleavage crab back lmao its sad you where with the show originally but hopefully they wont take anything else out
My favorite cartoons of this year are Vox Machina, Cuphead, The Boys Diabolical, Hamster and Gretel, Bee and Puppycat and Smiling Friends. I still don't saw Proud Family, Pantheon and Sonic Prime.
I like how he didn't just yell about how a lot of the shows he watched were trash, as I see that in a lot of commentary videos. I also like how he pointed out pros and cons in all shows, that's also hard to find.
39:26 Small yet funny story on the whole "Netflix didn't know how did bee and puppycat as" thing I remember being on Netflix a while ago finding something to &(this was a glitch btw)for some reason the anime & true crime section were mixed together for some reason And apparently mines wasn't the account that was having this issue Netflix made a statement saying that we're sorry & fixed the issue
the cuphead show absolutely grows into its own in the other seasons, definitely give the rest of it a watch it’s so good
also holy shit fairview came out this year? it feels like it came out in 2021
I wanna be in the next season
1c especially has some fantastic episodes, the whole devil and ms chalice trilogy of episodes were incredible and definitely showed the highs the show could go.
I thought it only got 2 seasons
it technically got one, which netflix cut down into three parts, they released all three this year, and fans are trying to get them to greenlight more
YES FINALLY SOMEONE TALKED ABOUT BATTLE KITTY YES THANK YOU NICKTENDO it deserves SO much more recognition than it currently has. It's SO funny and unique, and the story is amazing. It's disappointing to know it might never get a second season because Netflix hates good things
Ikr! It’s a great show!
And I think Maxo worked on the soundtrack which he made some pretty good music for some mobile games.
very good show

I love your videos its a shame RUclips weirdly always recommends them to me like days after they come out
Not to be a RUclipsr but ringing the bell to be notified for new videos should help fix that
@@NICKtendoReviews how do i do that

@@NICKtendoReviews i did it! thank you for the help
“So, what have we learned today? Don’t do this.”
I think I’ve found myself a new channel slogan.

I luaghed so hard when i heard this music, like it doesent just slighly sound like kahoot music but like its so close i would fit PERFECTLY into the "game"
Battle Kitty is inspired by Miitopia? I need to watch it now.
0:01 why this goes hard
9:21 took the words right out of my mouth when I first heard about this show
The issue I had with the Bee and Puppet Cat having season 1 condense into three episodes is that they rushed Derkard and Bee development and the "twist"! I get they didn't want to redo the Lazy in Space to make the season 1 flow better but still, maybe they should of done season 1 into five episodes instead?
i’m so glad someone acknowledged battle kitty, probably the biggest surprise of this year tbh
Paranormal Park is different than most as it felt like a cartoon soap opera something I've not seen in terms of animation as a genre
0:14 Batman Caped Crusader is still being worked on, just that it won't be on HBO Max anymore.
Appreciate this list! I will watch Battle Kitty :)
Finally I haven't seen many people cover dead paranormal park, but its one of my favorite shows and I love it.
What a nice list, I cant wait for almost all these shows to be cancelled in two weeks due to greedy and quite frankly bizarre corporate decisions before they can find their own footing in the landscape of animation :]
Only when referring to Netflix. The others are fine, even WBD said in a recent article that they aren't gonna be cutting any more shows.
Slippin' Jimmy in bottom 3...
The Slippin Heads will not take this kindly.
When does all the new cartoons and animated kids shows in 2023 ranked video come out since it’s almost the end of the year
Working on it, It’ll probably be the video after the next video
Very wonderful summary, thanks for the work you put in
Great vid Nick, I gotta especially complement your choices in BGM cuz Klonoa, 3rd Strike and Ollie King OSTs? Nice
I try really hard to not just play Mario music. Thanks for noticing!
really glad I stumbled into this video, introduced me to some pretty good shows that I’m binging rn (really liking battle kitty, planning on watching botbots later)
I really appreciated the effort and time it went into this video. Especially with how disrespected modern animations get from studios. Subscribed and going through your older videos now.
"Come join the kitty walk" has been haunting me for awhile
Not every day where I see Cartoon Network’s Clarence referenced in a video, but I appreciate it.
2:36 Another great use of sign language in a children's show was Blue's Clues. It was one of the first preschool shows to utilize sign language and portray deafness.
Smiling Friends is clearly the magnum opus of the year!
Pd: This is technically a 2018 show, and released overseas on 2019
But seems the hype surrounding it took place this year…
Nick, what do you think about Bluey? (If you've seen it, of course)
Your music throughout discussing Chibiverse is actually an 8-bit Animaniacs theme and not Mario Party Superstars' Horror Land.
Please do another one of these! Or if it’s too much work, you could do two a year, one in early January one in early July, just covering half the year
16:42 you haven’t watched a Transformers show before? Animated and Prime are the best ones if your looking for recommendations.
I do hope that the Cuphead Show comes back & doesn’t get canceled by Netflix on a count of their greed for money.
Even though the girl who liked Beavis was a legit crazy person
I was still irritated at Butthead for misleading Beavis into believing that she wasn’t into him even though Beavis could’ve potentially scored with a chick
I actually like that gave some decent emotion or character to their dynamic. As for the Paramount Plus show, B&B doesn't seem to miss a beat. It's just as stupid and humorous as the old show (or the 2011 revival).
39:49 i need my plus sized bee back and the cleavage crab back lmao its sad you where with the show originally but hopefully they wont take anything else out
You should definitely do a ranking of all the cartoons from the 2010s if you dare
I did something kinda similar to that in early 2020, covering the best & worst of each year that decade
My favorite cartoons of this year are Vox Machina, Cuphead, The Boys Diabolical, Hamster and Gretel, Bee and Puppycat and Smiling Friends. I still don't saw Proud Family, Pantheon and Sonic Prime.
Batle Kitty sounds very intresting because of the interactive factor and the Cup Head Show also look really fun.
I loved this! I have so many new show suggestions to get through! I'd never heard of some of them!
why is this video on the cuphead show song playlist
Shout-out to 18:11 for the Klonoa music 🙃
I'm pretty sure Big Nate is the first ever Nicktoon to use licensed music.
Spongebob used a Tiny Tim song in the pilot. IIRC that's the reason some season 1 box sets are missing that episode (for licensing reasons)
the absolute visceral doubletake i did when sage off of nanosweep 2 starts playing oh my lord
35:18 no way... the real... the real PENUT!?!?!?/1
I'm still suffering OK KO withdrawal after nearly 5 years.
Ey, welcome to 2023 Nick! I'm looking forward to what you will be discussing. 👍 😁
35:18 its that one scp that snaps people's neaks (i forgot the name of it)
I love the series of battle kitty
Bee and Puppycat is my favorite
Hamster and Gretel is like the only one of these I’ve watched. And I definitely agree the first episode looks really cheap for some reason.
Bee and Puppycat being 2nd gives me a smile because I fuckin love that show
I like how he didn't just yell about how a lot of the shows he watched were trash, as I see that in a lot of commentary videos. I also like how he pointed out pros and cons in all shows, that's also hard to find.
If I made any spelling errors tell me
That's what I admire about him. He's more fair but also breaks down why something works or doesn't work. 👍
@@cheesysamich You spelled "commentary" wrong.

Small yet funny story on the whole "Netflix didn't know how did bee and puppycat as" thing
I remember being on Netflix a while ago finding something to &(this was a glitch btw)for some reason the anime & true crime section were mixed together for some reason
And apparently mines wasn't the account that was having this issue Netflix made a statement saying that we're sorry & fixed the issue
[Please insert Jeffrey Dahmer in a school girl outfit here]

This was a great video! Thanks!
