as someone that works in an airport - gate 1 does exist, it's primarily used for passengers with mobility issues. Jeremy's case i believe was made specifically for the show.
Actually there was a company or 2 actually planning on making them. There was serious consideration being given to making them when the episode aired, they had a website and everything but I can’t for the life of me remember the name. Hammonds was a custom job I think.

You could make a laptop similar but you would have to have separate batteries for the motors, laptop batteries will not handle that sort of current and would either not power the motors at all or explode due to overdraw.
Can you imagine if an old looking dude in an airport opened his luggage and took out a steering wheel, laid his luggage on the ground and clicked the steering wheel into place. Than sat atop it, squealed 'SPEEEEEEEEED!' and started to scoot across the lobby to his gate? Hilarious.
You can tell that particular scene is scripted because of its' ridiculousness but also because if you did that at an actual airport they would probably throw you out the tallest window they had. They have null/zero tolerance for sexual harassment even when joking at the security check-in.
I just love at 7:40 they have the end scene of Jeremy asking where the plane is, and him falling just right at where a Ryanair plane is close by - sums up Ryanair perfectly. The airline which lands quite near an airport.
Real situation: Once I had to bring my Segway to my holiday home. Unfortunately it didn’t get accepted for check in, and then the staff said that we were running out of time, so just literally put the thing together and then ride it to my waiting Chauffer out by the departures area. I caused quite a shock when I was riding my Segway out to the car. They allow skateboards in most airports. Check beforehand but you should be able to ride your skateboard as well.
To be fair to the grand tour, it has to appeal to a wider audience. Top gear broadcasted on BBC 2, and was therefore primarily seen by a British audience, therefore the writers needed only to appeal to British people when they wrote bits and jokes. For the grand tour, they are on Amazon prime, which is more international, and therefore needs to appeal to a wider audience. That being said the general humour and banter still feels close enough to the original top gear, despite the level of scripting in both shows, the conversations on trips and the like seem to be mostly genuine.
Tonoight on Bottom Gear: I break my humerus after a slight lapse in spatial positional judgement, Hammond creates the only known case of error 58008 after trying to motorise a laptop, And both of us are now wanted in several countries for killing a man via use of a sunglass stall.
3:14 That check-point security guy has got an odd small & short patch of hair on the back of his bald skull. Did he shave his head but decided to keep that patch?
