This was Stanley Jordan's big hit that was all over smooth jazz radio in the late 80's and early 90's (dig that DX-7!😄.) His style is clearly out of the George Benson school of jazz, but that is some crazy technique. I wonder if he ever picked up a Chapman Stick or Warr Guitar?

Nice! I have not listened to Stanley Jordan in a very long time.
As always, this was a very tasty piece. I have always admired the way Stanley Jordan plays and the sound and feel he creates.
Thanks for doing this. Keep it up!

Thank you for listening to my song. I did not know jazz, when I was in college I heard about Jordan's tapping approach, picked up Magic Touch out curiosity. That album was in my frequent listening for two years. There is a video where he plays within the ensemble, a piano and guitar duo - by himself!!

I saw Stanley with Kenwood Dennard, before Woody began teaching at Berklee. What a great band!

I lived down the road from kenwood when i was at berklee and would see him walking home. The bass dept also brought him in often to tell jaco stories.

Saw him in Austin in 1985 or 1986 at the Bass Concert Hall on the UT campus. Very cool night. His opening act was a then-unknown vocalist who performed solo named Bobby McFerrin. It was totally "unique musician night".

Love this performance. JT Lewis on the kit! Great drummer, great guy. I think he's been gigging with Vanessa Williams over the past several years. Yossi Fine, killin' it. Can't make out what kind of bass that is.

Wow. That was really good. So smooth. I normally don’t like “jazz guitar” that much as the tone bothers me but he had a great tone here. Not sure if it’s the tapping or the guitar/amp setup but this was nice.
And funny you mention piano. When my oldest son started music he was doing snare drum but didn’t like it so we started him on piano lessons. He learned a ton about reading music and some music theory then he decided to start guitar and he said it was similar to piano. I didn’t get it but it did benefit him.
And then moving to bass….the guitar playing helped him there and then bass playing made him a better guitar player.
Oh how I wish I took music lesson as a kid. I’d still have it today but now at 49 years old, I’d probably forget where I put my guitar!

Jordan's main guitar was built by Vigier Guitars in 1984 (custom with super low action). Amazing how he taps complex chords so cleanly. Also, wouldn't Miles be the progenitor of smooth...? Don't know but it seems intuitive. Ok, looked it up, Grover Washington seems to be considered the father of smooth...Peace J.

yeah no Miles Davis is not smooth jazz. Yeah Grover is great..

Improving solos on bass isn’t your role - unless you’re Marcus Miller or Victor Wooten or Stanley Clarke.
