- Beryl hit Texas as a Category 1 hurricane and was still lashing Texas with torrential rains, tornadoes and life-threatening storm surge as high as five feet in some areas after weakening back to a tropical storm Monday. Nearly 3 million homes and businesses have lost power as downed trees and flooded roadways left stranded drivers in need of rescue. Janet Shamlian has more.

This is the scariest category 1 hurricane I’ve ever been in. We were not expecting it to be this bad. I was unable to sleep because I thought my windows would explode from the wind. The wind was so strong that you could hear it beating against the walls.
For real i didn’t even go outside the entire time it was here and now that you mention it i heard the walls of my house as if someone was banging it with a hammer.
Yes, it was rough from 1 am-2 am to12 pm-2 pm!!
Thank god it didn’t stay a Cat 4, only reason the cat 1 was this strong is because the Northeast of the storm was strongest and it’s bands came in waves. You guys experienced 3 waves, with each wave being stronger and stronger

I evacuated Houston just in time...i knew this one would be bad.
Sending ❤ and prayers to Houston.
Where’d you go?
And how did u know

I was so surprised when I came to Arkansas for a four-day trip the hurricane happened in my city Pasadena, Texas
In Texas here, it's very hot and bad out here, my house has no power and the pool in the backyard only helps temporarily (its freezing), I really hope the power is fixed soon because a lot of my family is getting sick and there's so many bugs (flies and mosquitos mainly). If anyone else is in Texas rn, hope yall are fine and still kicking
Praying for you and your family. 🙏Are you in Houston?

Not a surprise for the power outages Texas area had power grid issues before the storm, because of the governor Not wanting to upgrade the system, now inorder to fix it it's going to cost even more than it would have before. Hopefully the people of Texas will receive the help they need to recover.
Texas opted out of the national power grid over twenty years ago. Texas now must replace or repair its own power grid. It can not accept electricity from neighboring states.
@@robinhollenbeck367 A relative of mine works for a power company in New England and the government of Texas has made contact with them regarding helping out and they had to refuse because they have a union and Texas is not part of their mutual aid agreement, Texas wanted to go it alone and now they are stuck because the union electric workers are not allowed to go there to assist them. If they were part of the union mutual aid agreement they would have already been there preposition to help the people of Texas. My relative said he has already gone to most of the other New England states and Ohio, North and South Carolina ,Georgia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, when they have a natural disaster, but they are not allowed to go to Texas because there power grid is considered to be belonging to like another country. Texas opted out of the power grid so they are now on their own.
Got nothing to do with that ELECTRICITY was DEREGULATED by the Bushwackers and no one has done anything about it since. That's why it's a big mess

@@Blueheeler2013 you might have power now but Texas's power grid is a disaster and they may have rolling blackouts and when things are getting repaired they need to borrow power from power supply from other parts of the grid to get essential services up and running in hardest hit areas,,like hospitals, police stations and fire stations and water treatment plants and other public places like community centers for people who are seniors who don't have air conditioning or food. It may take weeks to get to residential homes.

I learned my lesson after Hurricane Harvey, that was it for me because i knew it would happen again. Too much asphalt and cement in that town.
Just like Harvey, no one took it seriously until it was too late, lost countless cars and home floodings. Looks similar here
Why tf would you still live in Houston
Any word on what areas are flooded near Galveston? I wanna run out and get me a cruchwrap supreme but it ain't worth dying over. Nobody is delivering. Also the power is out and its hotter than a hookers door knob on nickel night in here. When can expect crews to be working to get it back on again?
Stay home. Nothing is worth risking your life or those of others that might need to save you, especially for a crunch wrap Supreme. Check your priorities.
Yall better start preparing yourself properly these aren't typically storms anymore, the temps are rising every year meanings storms are getting more dangerous
It is warm water that intensifies a hurricane. Usually, a storm weakens when it travels over cooler land. However, with a holiday weekend heatwave in Texas, could the land cool the storm enough to weaken it?
Did I mention Abbot ditched you?
Really surprising people think they are driving boats. Nothing that important. Now your car is ruined and you go anyplace anyway!!! Stay home and safe as possible.

@@kingkeenangaming756 ah, I wondered the urgency given all the power outages. My friend runs a salad franchise and has a small staff tomorrow to dispose of spoiled food in fridge and move frozen items to coolers with dry ice. If power comes on, they still probably can't open due to dressings and such that are probably above safe temp standards. Apparently it only takes 4 hours for spoilage in a fridge. Cheers
I was quite surprised to see how unprepared this area was thinking that the storm was staying on its original track and not getting more preparations in place just incase it took a more northern track. Now there will be hundreds of thousands without power in this ridiculous heat longer than really what they should have been. 🤷♀️🇺🇸👍
I heard it might hit San Anton.
Reminds me of the map in Left4Dead2.
_" Hell and high water "_ it was called.
Lack of electricity is the governments fault. Driving in the storm is the fault of your tiny squirrel brain

Well at least the astros can’t cheat
I hope Houston stays safe. Unfortunately, the Governor of Texas is mad stupid. Obviously the Gulf Coast is out of the state's control, and there is a solution to improve the power grid. However, it's a band aide over another band aide. Texas knows how hurricanes just keep on coming, and the state is still building crappy power lines only to get damaged again by mother nature. The cycle will never end until the power grid improves in Texas. When? LOL

Texans didn’t take this storm seriously, this is what happens when you don’t heed the warnings.
Not much really happened and I’m from Houston. the usual idiots driving into deepwater on the freeways, blah blah blah
Its mainly the power outage its hotter than a mug out here and no power sucks
Those saying “not much happened.” Are the lucky ones. Many hard workers are having to clean up the mess in their yard of large trees. Someone in my neighborhood lost their life from a tree falling on their home. We are still without power. All day my family were in the heat cleaning up. If you stood outside all the neighbors were also trying to clean up their yard. Many gas stations were out of gas and many house holds only had electric stoves. Which was hard for many families to get food when restaurants and fast food chains were closed.

Where’s Biden Where the Natl Guard?!!
@@GlobeTrotter713 The governor of the state has to request help and tell FEMA and the national guard what kind of help they need and where ,Texas is a big state and some places need more help than others but they have to know where to go, obviously the governor has not given any thought or direction, on where and how much each city or county would need.
