I know this is weird but the thing that REALLY got me about this scene is how he was in a dead on SPRINT after him instead of that cliche fake run you see all the time...it really gives the scene just that much more emotion and I applaud for that 👏

Dale Midkiff who plays Louis said interview that whole scene and when he yells he invisioned real life scenario of his whole own kid if had happened to him that was great acting, it's also crazy that a scary movie like this would make you cry, I can't think of any other scary movie that I've cried to besides this one?

This scene is particularly tragic because it shows how life can suddenly become dark in the blink of an eye. One minute, the family is having a picnic with their friend Jud, laughing and having a great time. The next, their toddler is dead and so are all their hopes and dreams for him.

Everyone gets so mad when they know where his middle name is from. Most people hear it and know exactly where it’s from.
Thankfully he’s 17 now and likes his name. But it always makes me laugh that I picked his name from this movie.

For me, this was the second most heart-breaking scene in the movie. The wasy Louis screams is just soul-wrenching. The first was when Louis has to kill Gage by injecting him and Gage cries out in pain. The look on Louis's face is just... devastation. Even all these years later I still remember these scenes with clarity just because of how emotionally impactful they were.

I felt bad for the whole family by default, but I did NOT feel sorry for Louis or Rachel. They neglected their child not once but TWICE, near a super-busy road. Its not like they did not know about the trucks or even SEE a neighbor pull their child out the road in time! I know the story claims the Evil influenced them to be more neglectful, but not at the beginning....& they were just crappy parents & I think the Evil knew they were vulnerable because of this lack of intelligence.

But unfortunately his forward momentum made it impossible for him to stop, and he stumbled out in the road. I'll just share a little story; I live in Eastern Europe. The house right across the street was the first house built in our street. The woman living there lived until 101. She died in 2015. In the 1940s she had her first child. We live on the main road, but back then a truck would pass through here maybe once a week, even less. We were basically one of the poorest parts of the world at the time. People still mainly used horses and carriages.
But exactly at that one time a week that a truck passed by for 10 seconds, her son was out on the road and got hit and killed on the spot. She never recovered from it.

    People really misunderstand this scene.
That said, this scene depicts 2 important things that the book explains a lil better: everyone's reactions are different to tension.
Louis races to save the kid out of pure instinct and so does Jud while Ellie and Rachel freeze in fear and shock. Jud knows he will never reach Gage, which is why he runs and yells his name wildly in frustration. It happens in real life. People react different. Simple as that.
The second thing that is happening here is the power of the Pet Sematary at work.
The place facilitated this tragedy and Louis was warned of this but he could never understand it, no one could. It just explained better as ''the place gets ahold of you".
From the moment Gage started running after the kite and Louis became distracted, it was all falling into place.

    • @matatosky
      @matatosky 3 года назад +14

@@mercedesbeatrizescubet6807 Well, I see the similarity but no, it's not the same.
In Final Destination, it is known that Death is stalking them and unraveling its different works to achieve its purpose.
Although, you never see Death in the movies, it is portrayed as a supernatural force that is out to exact the plan it had for its victims originally.
In Pet Sematary, it is a Wendigo.
An ancient Native American demon whose power domain lies in a place where Native Americans laid their dead to rest and believed that the soil had magical powers to bring them back to life.
Once they realized the dead came back to life in a completely evil way because they no longer had a soul and the possession replaced it, they condemned the grounds and stopped using it, as they felt that it was the workings of a malign presence.
Early Native Americans didn't have an actual religion until settlers brought it upon them but they were spiritual and they believed in good and bad forces, just like any other.

Same. Stephen King is amazing pushing the boundaries of what people back then were willing to write about, especially in horror genre - creating such a strong emotional reaction to something no one wants to think about. Used to be a bit of a fictional rule - not placing fictional children in extreme danger/horrific situations. It's been used more since then because it really ups the emotional stakes. This was the one horror book that had me unexpectedly stifle-sobbing. (So embarrassing when this happens on public transport.) It was so wrenching. Also, the way SK structured it in the book, so we're not experiencing the death in real time - just a jumpcut to the funeral, installing a flashback. Them being at a funeral put me in shock because one moment there's the possiblity of death/harm to the child, even some semblance of crazy hope, but the next its the total immersive full acceptance that Gage is dead, for family and relatives and the main character (Dad) and all the grief like a tonne of bricks (instead of the confusion and disbelief, shock and numbness that comes with the initial accident - usually just adrenaline and dealing with what has to be done). It's like being ripped from the adrenaline, and plunged into the emotional horror, bypassing the stage where your brain tries to get a grip on things, and then cleverly, and mercilessly, we're taken into the father's flashback of the death, with the grief overlaid and turned up full-bore. Experiencing the grief and self-blame over the adrenaline was torture, and so masterful, and even though all the details are left out of the movie, they're so imprinted on me that I can't stand to watch this scene. Also, Gage looks exactly like my youngest son did at that age. (Having said all this, I'll be embarrassed if I find that's it's not how I've remembered it - I'm old now ...)

This movie hit too close to home for my family personally. My cousin almost became dead like Gage at that age. And he was about his age. My grandparents lived on a house like that right before a huge high way. Everyone would go maybe 60+ MPH on that road. And he had walked out in just a diaper.
But the trucker stopped and grabbed him out of the road thankfully. And ever since the rule was you go past the flag pole without a adult you got spanked after that.
That happened about the same time that movie came out.

Better to be spanked and cry for a day than for your entire family to mourn for decades.

Dang the same thing but with me I was about the same age and we live on a busy street with a bunch of shops around us and gas stations, our house is only about 60 feet from the road and when we had a family picnic I went running towards the road and to oncoming traffic my dad said he ran as fast as he could but I was too far away, the thing that saved me was our dog named boots he came running and tackled me down and took me to my dad man I loved that dog and I didn’t even know that until he died and I was old enough to understand this scene still gives me chills especially when the father starts screaming wow

Crashed a company car trying to avoid a kid that wandered out into the middle of the road. I swerved at 45 to 50 MPH. Ended up rolling over multiple times. The caravan I was driving was crushed over the drivers seat but i didn’t have a mark on me. The folks who’s baby it was thought I had to be dead till the rear window was shattered by a glass breaker. I just crawled out and calmly called 911. Dash cam saved my rear proved that according to the police my reaction was just a second early enough to miss the kid completely. Company decided that I was going to make calls from the office from that point on
