  • The Juggernaut Jug band perform their instruments.
What do you get when you blend jazz, blues ragtime, swing and original music with washboards, washtubs, kazoos, jugs and various other sundry hardware? Nothing less than the strange concoction called the JUGGERNAUT JUG BAND, based in Louisville, Kentucky. While members of the band are accomplished musicians, “They don’t let virtuosity get in the way of having fun.” (Washington Post) Each performance is a challenge to the audience to have as much fun as the band. Don’t let their antics fool you though. Their exuberant music is the result of skillfully conceived arrangements and unique vocal harmonies.

In March 2015 the Juggernaut Jug Band celebrated their 50th year as jug band music's 'Keepers of the Flame' in the music's birthplace, Louisville Ky, by performing for Prince Charles (who tried playing spoons) & Duchess Camilia. For several years The JJB has been the most popular concert act on The American Queen, the largest steamboat plying America's waterways today. Every September they appear at The National Jug Band Jubilee, which has featured jug bands from all over America, as well as bands who've come as far as from Japan !! Michael Jones book on jug bands, 'Louisville Jug Music, From Earl McDonald to The National Jug Band Jubilee", which has a full chapter dedicated to The JJB, was released at the 2014 Jubilee. They're also featured in Mike Dewe's 1998 British book,'That Skiffle Craze', & Todd Kwait's Documentary,
'Chasin' Gus's Ghost', which also features other former jug band musicians, including
Bob Weir, John Sebastion, David Grisman, Jim Kweskin, Taj Mahal, Geoff & Maria Muldar
amongst others. For the 15th consecutive year they performed at a festival in Ann Arbor, & headlined The National Washboard Festival in Logan Ohio.
In February 2016, they'll be featured on a Japanese Travelogue show,
filmed in The Speakeasy of Louisville's 'Even Williams Bourbon Experience.
FYI - Jug band music isn't country, hillbilly or bluegrass. It's a style on playing any type of popular music, typically with a sly sense of humor, so virtually any tune can be played 'jug band style'. Go see them live. You'll have a 'jug hugging 'good time.
