Anakin literally could not live without Padme. When she died, Anakin cease to exist, until he learned about their offspring where he began his conflict as Luke said, but was not enough until the live he saved once, almost ended the offspring and that’s when Anakin returned one last time to destroy the sith (Vader and Sidious).
There is actually a canon comic that reveals that Anakin wanted to leave the Jedi order, and after the order refused Obi Wan to train Anakin outside the order, Obi Wan himself threatened to leave the order if that's what it took to fullfill Qui-Gon's wish and his own love for Anakin.
