    I completely understand what you mean. I wear wash and gos 99% of the time because the thought of doing a braid/twistout or a protective style like braids or twists is just exhausting or even worse, it turning out badly and I’ve wasted my time. At least with a wash and go, I can redo it or turn it into a puff or low bun. I would love to see more “lazy natural” content.

    Edit. Now I have shoulder length hair and doing my MSc in data science. If she gets in the way again 💇🏿‍♀️💇🏾‍♀️. I think she knows her place now… in braids 🤷🏾‍♀️🥰

    NO BUT SIS. You are PREACHING. My gosh! I wasn't sure how to articulate what I've been feeling about my hair recently, and I still find it hard to find the words but just know, EVERYTHING YOU SAID was exactly it!! I literally have a weekend trip (going away tomorrow, woo!) and I was considering staying up ALL NIGHT to do braids or faux locs or SOMETHING.... when really, I have this head of hair that is FREE (can we talk about it?) and a load of products that I can take with me to maintain a cute style. I'll be honest, the hair style I want, I can't achieve with my VERY thick hair (our hair is almost identical) and I didn't think it went with my outfit choices but SO WHAT! Honestly, I'm not killing myself over the crown I've been born with. So in short lol... I'm not doing this anymore WITH YOU!!!! Be blessed, sis! Love from the UK x

    I have never been the type of natural to do all the things to my hair simply because I don't feel the need. People see my hair in it's extraordinarily healthy state and are amazed when I tell them, "No I don't use a million products, I don't deep condition all the time, I don't do these fancy treatments and I don't use "protective styles". I keep her clean, hydrated, and leave her alone.That is it, that is all! I learned a long time ago that our hair as it comes...is already presentable. Baby if she clean, hydrated and yours, Your Fine! So just let her be LOL

    Whewww girl I'm tired too 😓 When my hair is done and braided, I'm more confident and want to go out. I've spent years and years trying to understand my hair and take care of it. I've tried regular wash and gos, stretched wash and gos, twist outs and braid outs. I'm just still not a fan of how it looks on me but I love it on other people!!! How frustrating? I wish I was that natural that ended up loving her hair in these styles. I really tried.
    Me 5-10 years ago would have never considered locs. Me now, I WILL be getting locs. When I started looking at locs on Pinterest and watched videos of the process, I fell in love with them. The journey people go through to loving their hair and themselves more in locs is what I want. Put you first girl!

    I didnt realize the amount of time I freed up with not worrying about my hair. Since the rona, I have been washing, blow drying and twisting my hair up. It would take all weekend.. and i would be ok with it because i felt accomplished and saved money. I realized my time is just as valuable as money and knowing when to hand over the skill to the professionals was a reawakening! I also have 4-5 routating styles that I feel cute in. That is good enough. I hope this was a good release for you! Excited to see this journey!

    I think the mentality was that back then we struggled to do our hair it was a nice little break to have someone else do our hair and not have to deal with it but guess what? We have evolved. Wash, condition and style doesn’t take all day anymore. Detangling doesn’t take 8 hours. And we are doing our own protective styles. We like doing our hair and we are good at it. So it doesn’t really make sense to keep doing a cute little “tradition” that no longer serves us. We can wear a wash n go or a braid out or mini twists or even large twists on vacation. It’s okay. It’s beautiful. It’s the path of least resistance.

    Honestly, as a person who went natural about 3 1/2 years ago with a big chop, I never plan on working that hard for my hair. I do get the urge when I see the braids and different styles. But as a full-time worker, getting my master's and having a full-time job it is not worth it. I do twist out 2 or 3 strands that I keep for a week, then I do a bonnet at night, let it get volume, then rock an afro for another week. When I get braids, I do not get any extensions; I just use whatever is on my head. I will also wash my hair, blow it out, and wear that style. I think people assume they need to make these grand gestures with their hair, and they really don't. I get more compliments on a blowout or an afro than any other time. IT IS ABOUT CONFIDENCE IN YOURSELF!!!

I haven't braided my hair in over a year and this is the longest I've went without braids. I actually bought braiding hair at the beginning of spring and it's just sitting there because I no longer want to take the time to do it. It's so much easier to literally wash and go. All I'm saying is you are not alone in how you are feeling. Girl every now and I I think about braiding my hair and I go look at the packs of braiding. Man, I gave up on hairstyles a while ago. The last few years since COVID hit especially, I just protect it at night and let it do its thing when I get up in the morning. If I gotta go somewhere, I'll put it in a big puff and that's it.
    Sometimes it just feels like the expectation for us to Do Something with our Hair (something I've heard for years growing up from even my own family) is just too much.
    As I get older, I've just been appreciating the process of just letting myself be. I had the energy to do crazy styles in my 20s but I'm in my mid-30s. I. Just... Don't have time for it anymore. I'll do it if I want to try something out but my day to day should be about me just being at peace with me.

I'll be damned if I have to spend the whole day on my hair. my braider doesn't even take more than 5 hours to do medium/small box braids that are waist length. there's no reason for me to be in my hair for more than 2 hours

    • @ifeoluwaogunkola8328

      What I learned from the no oils no butters thing is to simplify the routine. I shampoo, deep condition, use 1 or two products to style my hair (usually twists for a twistout). Took me 2 hours today to wash detangle and twist my hair. Shampoo with hair loose in a downward motion. Deep condition for how long it says on the package, no more no less. Section to detangle. Use two products max to style. My hair is shiny and manageable and I love it.

    I'm sitting here saying, 'but why not do a wash n go?' 🤣🤣🤣 in all seriousness them type 2, type 3 hair types will do the same curl routine no matter what and save other styles for a real special occasion so I dunno whyyyyy Type 4s think they gotta act different. shoot I washed my hair before work and that wasn't a chore 40 min wash, dried until I lost patience and went to work. I'd say get comfortable with a cut that looks good when you're hair is undefined so you can rock a fro

    • @xtelfolaj
      @xtelfolaj Год назад +8

      You are so right. Type 3's have no problem wearing their hair as is. However, type 4 always choose to wear stretched styles. I wish I can master wash and go without the tangles, or the knots it does to my ends. I think it's very easy to admire the comfotability type 3 have in the non-stretched state because type 4 has very high shrinkage.

    • @TheVeritasForYou
      @TheVeritasForYou Год назад +12

      @@xtelfolaj I think Type 4s really gotta confront their issue with shrinkage because my thought process is, 'i like this tight curl pattern' rather than 'my hair is actually thiiiis long when wet'. my priorities were embracing definition and shape rather than hair length. we can't have the same expectations as we did when we had straight hair, I think some folks are still hung up on that.
      I started my journey with a professional to lock down my wash n go and get a hair cut that works for me when I want to rock a fro and I think thats the best advice for those on their journey that have styling fatigue like this. We are not our hair, it doesn't need to morph and change every week for us to be relevant, and having a simple, quick and healthy routine is far preferable to setting aside a whole day for some braids

    • @TheVeritasForYou
      @TheVeritasForYou Год назад +3

      @@xtelfolaj the most important things to realize, something RUclipsrs rarely say, is that your hair needs to build up the ability to remain hydrated when it's dried and that not everyone can last the whole week wearing a wash n go. those things need to be accepted in order to get the style down pat. It also all starts with a cut, specifically 4 every 3 months. I needed that many trims to stop my hair from knotting at the bottom. don't stretch or fluff, let your fro shake itself out of the cast and you'll be fine

I feel more beautiful now especially since I don't have to put much effort into looking like somebody lol.

    I love this for you! I love to wear my hair out on vacations after my very first one as a natural where I put in my own extensions that looked horrible and I hated it the whole time. It's always been so much easier for me than styled hair and it wears out nicer because it really is better moisturized. Love your videos and StarPuppy's

    This video was so needed lol!! Puts a lot of things into perspective. I have braid outs and wash n gos in rotation as far as day to day styles go and I'm quite fine with that. Heading on vacay on Saturday and had my mom do knotless braids for me because I actually do need a little break from doing my hair and personally didn't want my hands in my hair at all during vacation as I'd be in the water a lot.
    Needless to say, natural hair is as hard as you make it imo. Love the idea of normalizing natural hair on trips/vacations though. I've done this many times and it was literally more than okay loll. Glad you were able to release all that and come to a cute style with the curls

    So no lie I just had the black girl breakdown. Like I have so many hair strands and my hair is so long that no one wants to do my hair. Like I don’t trust many hairstylists I’m very selective bc everyone CANNOT do my hair. Anddd I’m hella pre-rich so I can’t waste money like that. I really be borderline panic attack doing my hair. It got to the point that I’ve seriously considered relaxing it. What I usually end up doing is a simplified version of the style if my anxiety hold off to make progress with the style. If not then I’ll just leave my hair to do what it’s gone do. No one knows the difference if you don’t tell em. Oooh why don’t you start a series called “It really is that easy…” I’m sending healing, happy, and tame the mane energies your way boo.

    gurl I relate to the breakdown. I love my hair but I'm in the process of relearning it cause it started breaking due to a lack of protein and nutrients cause I went through a depressive state and I didn't have the best relationship with food and my hair has definitely suffered for it. my hair changed from porosity to the rough feeling of my individual hair strands, to the elasticity and splits and the overall dry feeling and the breakage that I keep having to cut. I had a healthy hair journey for a year and I got the length and the density and everything I wanted with my hair. and now the thought that I have to start over has really made me not want to see or even deal with my hair (which is the opposite of what my hair needs rn). Idk if the structural damage is even salvageable, I'm not sure if it needs a detox if I should get new products, or if giving it protein and taking vitamins will stop my damage, and having to go through that process again is tiring.

    Ever since I went natural 3 years ago. I never put my hair in a protective style. I felt hair really isn't that fragile, I don't need to treat it like fine porcelain glass. I accepted all hair types will just get split ends and knots and it is what it is. I will just trim regularly its just hair and it grows. And I was right my tight coiled hair has reached shoulder length, yes naturally their were ups and downs but that's expected. But I retained my length and thickness. And avoided most of the stresses that I didn't want to deal with.

    I’m cutting my hair next week for a similar reason. I redo my hair weekly but I usually wear it in twisted styles and I move slow so it takes a while. I’m also a perfectionist when it comes to the outcome and one time I spent an hour trying to make one part straight and it was the most frustrating moment. I used to really like seeing a picture of a style and recreating it or when someone would compliment it and ask who did it. But I don’t enjoy doing my hair anymore and maybe it’s because I’m in my second year of law school now and am going to share a bathroom for the first time in a few years but I don’t want to keep spending a day doing it. I don’t wear wash and go’s often because I feel….inconvienced by them?? I like them but if I see one side got squished or is crooked the perfectionist come out and my hair is too dense to do a loose puff with a wash and go. I don’t really want to plan my life around when I do my hair. This past year I would get a text from my friends asking if I wanted to get food or hang out and I would either respond saying I’m doing my hair right now or I would have to think about how late I could stay up to do it before the school week started. If someone tried talking to me while I was doing my hair I would talk to them through my bathroom door or get a scarf to cover up while I was “in process”. Since I don’t feel inspo anymore I have been doing the same style every single week and it feels like a waste. I’m also cutting because I don’t like how insecure it makes me when it’s not done (whether that be twisted or wash and go) and the attachment I have. And I have convinced myself that since short hair looks good on all the pretty people I see I’ll like it on myself shorter than I had it before when I big chopped after transitioning. I like how big my hair it and how much hair I have but that’s until I part it in half and see no end lol.
    Hope your hair doesn’t stress you out anymore! Just realized how long my comment is.

    …I had that exact moment the last time I went to a salon and relaxed my hair: I had booked weeks ahead, travelled for over an hour, got messed around and overcharged only to come out like grease ball with a chemical burn on the nape of my neck. As I was sitting on the train home I thought never again ! I think it happens to all of us at least once😂!

    I love your channel and Star Puppy. I believe natural hair is hard when we make it hard. When we go into elaborate styles and want our hair to be something it's naturally not, that makes it hard. I have 4c/b hair and I can wash, condition moisturize and put it in a clip to wear a high puff in like 30-45 minutes. I think it's what we make it. I feel you on the burnout though Sometimes we just gotta keep it simple to keep our peace ✌ 😌 🙏

    I just keep my hair in flat twists and twist. I wake up and go. When I wanna be cute I slap on a wig. My hair grows fast in those styles. I recently had a moment where my hair was shedding excessively. I believe it was stress but I was tired of seeing it fall out so I cut it. I kiss my hair but I’m going back to what I was doing.

    I think we need to redefine “lazy natural”. I don’t consider myself lazy, I’m just not excessive (and yes, I think long-term protective styles are excessive). I do my simple wash n gos and alternate headwraps. To me, ‘lazy’ is neglect and my routine isn’t giving that. Twists on my own hair is the most I’ll do for vacation hair. If that.
