By Sherlock's own admission, Mycroft is actually smarter than him. He's just lazy.
Quite true, Mycroft is one of the most antisocial characters in literature. He’s wholly disinterested in other people, to the point of misanthropy, even going as far as to only venture from his house, to two places, his work and the Diogenes Club - in which it is absolutely silent aside from a few rooms where one can if so inclined entertain other people. Mycroft is more intelligent than Sherlock, however, his intellect is matched by his indolence and introversion. Sherlock is much more into the joie de vivre and adventure, where Mycroft is far more happy sequestering himself away from people, due to I imagine, pomposity or as I’ve stated, misanthropy.
@@morningstar6552 I believe Sherlock also said that Mycroft, when he gathers information, is more apt to sorting and categorizing it, whereas Sherlock is apt to processing and interpreting information.
He's hardly lazy, he basically controls the British government (or rather "is" the British government as sherlock would put it). He just puts his mind to vastly different things than Sherlock.
Takes a great deal of effort to get into such a powerful position and stay there.
@@Tyrunner0097 When the Holmes brothers work together, they are unstoppable. Both of them are also fairly uninterested in humans as a whole, because of how superior they are to most folks. Only those of merit are of interest to them - Irene Adler, Dr. Watson, and even the evil but competent Professor Moriarty.
So basically Shikamaru
any one ??
Stephen Fry as Mycroft is brilliant; just brilliant.,
I can't think of anyone better suited for that role than Stephen Fry.
@@dkix89 Mark Gatiss was better
A shame they didn't do more with him but it's the little things that count.
@@gottdervater8408 tbf I agree with you both
Gatiss had the better attitude for the role. But Stephen fry actually looks like the drawings of the character.
Any intelligent role is a Stephen Fry role.
There's so much attention put on the role of "Iron Man", but RDJ truly killed it as Holmes. Really hope there'll be another movie...
It's already been confirmed.
I wouldn't even mind a Mycroft Holmes spin off series... with Stephen Fry ofc
also with SGT. OSIRIS
@@chrispetesch9245 If it is I hope Arsene Lupin appears as an antihero
I Love the SH series! I hope there are a few more! RDJ and Jude Law, what a combo!
I love how Sherlock and Mycroft kinda have this way of talking to each other like they’re speaking a different language. If you listen closely, they are subtly greeting each other and saying they miss each other. Then, later Sherlock hints that he noticed Mycroft driving Moriarty somewhere when it was passing Baker Street, then John chimes in, pointing out exactly how much Mycroft knows about Moriarty faster than Sherlock.
“I see your boot maker is ill, dear Brother.”
As I detect that you’ve recently changed the brand of soap with which you shave…
I always love how they try to one-up each other when gathering intel.
Testing one another as a way to see how they're doing. If they are slower or inattentive, something must be bothering them, or they're ill.
@@matasa7463 That, and it's fun. It's rare to have someone who just gets you.
I just love how both Holmes brothers can notice the slightest irregularities:
"Bootmaker is ill" - Sherlock's boots haven't been either replaced or fixed.
"Recently changed the brand of soap" - Mycroft smells different.
"A new bow for your violin" - Sherlock's violin sounds different.
Same bow, New strings
@@johnnyyellow5725 Its all elementary
It's nowhere close to the introduction of Mycroft in the books
@@jayadevmenon7086 The window competition was so memorable despite or maybe because it's something they do all the time
The moment where Watson earns Sherlock’s full trust. Pays off later on in the final confrontation with Moriarty.
I forget which Holmes case it was, but there had been one scene where Watson was nearly killed. In that moment, when Holmes was attending to Dr. Watson, showing a normally-uncharacteristic display of concern, Watson knew Sherlock cared about him.
This is affirmed when Holmes, after making sure Watson was okay, turned to the would-be killer and informed him coldly that if Watson had been hurt or worse, Holmes had no problem whatsoever with killing the person who hurt Watson.
@@karazor-el6085 It was the story/adventure of the 'Three Garridebs', where the fake Garrideb/a.k.a Killer Evans from the States, took a cheap shot at Watson while pretending to settle for a truce b/w the two.
Watson had already earned Holmes's trust a long time ago. In these movies they are already best friends, that is why Sherlock was in charge of John's bachelor party.
Man I love Stephen fry as mycroft
He’s absolutely brilliant!!
Physically, Fry fits the part of Mycroft quite textly
Yes, indeed he does.
Stephen is also quite an intelligent man, so mentally as well
I just realized that despite his immense powers of observation and knowledge of his brother's proclivities, Sherlock didn't notice Mycroft sitting and hiding in the shadows literally five feet away from him, not to mention Mycroft was waiting in the exact location Holmes and Watson came to a stop.
Mycroft is to Holmes what Holmes is to Watson.
Love how he calls him Sherlie ..
I am listening to the audiobook on the complete works of Sherlock Holmes by Stephen Fry and his role as Mycroft just makes me happy.
Where's the part when Mycroft refuses Watson's handshake?
That's a very sensitive subject these days...
@@Ojachachannel it’s all elementary my friend
This is the Holmes brothers' equivalent of punching each other in the shoulder.
RUclips: You should watch it.
Me; I agree.
Fry's head is enormous!! Look at that gob!! He's got a busted clubbed foot in the middle of his face!🤣😂😂
When you realise Warner Bros releases all the Sherlock Holmes clips before they release Sherlock Holmes 3
Mycroft goes to the Diogenes club, Jeeves goes to the Ganymedes club... If you're sharp as a whip, get yourself a club membership!
0:42 cannot stop imagining bosie and oscar ^^
Dude called Sherlock a chimney sweeps boy 🤣
I'm *so* /glad/ you brought your brother.
THREE GENIUS'ES talking about things which have very little relevance to what they are going to do,inside the building, remarkable movie, the next one will be monumental
i want another sherlock with same actors directer and everything else please xddd
Was looking for the part where he gently pushes a homeless man with his cane and goes "scuse me".... sadly can't find it...
8 years are passing so fast
Word, pal. Word.
Here we are 11 years later lol.
Love ❤️ Mycroft! Shirley 😂
Hilarious, all three! One thing: bows don't have 'strings.' They get rehaired w horse-hair. :)
Another old video that got recommended to me. Yay!
Stephen Fry will always be a national treasure.
I like Mr. Fry's Mycroft.
this robert is better than ironman
0:38 that was almost Shakespearean-like.
HA that was funny.
I've never noticed hust hownmuch RDJ channels Basil Rathbone in his portrayal.
Hey Warner bros, We want more SHERLOCK HOLMES movie.
Shouldn't that be "same bow, new hair" @0:36?
No, Sherlock must've changed the strings on his violin, that's what he meant.
True
But downey is horrific

I'm sorry, but Robert was not the greatest casting for Sherlock. Stephen was a great casting for Mycroft, except that there is no way those two could ever be genetically related. 😅
Possibly the worst Sherlock Holmes ever portrayed on the silver screen.
Fuera mrd
Lol , he is the only American actor in the list of top 10 Sherlock Holmes portrayal. He won golden globe for best actor as well . Your comment makes zero sense. His Sherlock Holmes is more from books as well .
@@guddurathore2015 he has zero acting ability and is too short to play Sherlock anyway. Now Basil Rathbone was a superb Holmes.
@@helveticaneptune537 @Helvetica Neptune 🤣🤣 lol . What are you saying , Robert downey jr. is one of the best actor in the world. Ever watched Chaplin, tropic thunder, the judge, natural born killers, kiss kiss bang bang , the soloist. And he will do what he is asked to do okay and that is the problem of writer . I love him as Sherlock Holmes and he did a great job
I think you are forgetting Will Ferrell's portrayal.
