With as how skittish, scared, and trigger happy as cops are these days, this family realizes just how close they were to being killed. When you have extremely low hiring standards with no accountability, this is the type of situation you get. Although the taxpayers ultimately pay for cops' mistakes, I hope a lawsuit is filed.
Too bad the cops still don't get it. That SGT with his "no one gets hurt when they listen" is the biggest load of crap ever. This is what happens when you have just justified everything that has ever happened and refused to ever take responibility. Yeah no cop has ever shot someone who was complying. What a load of bull.
They are so scared because they are taught to be scared. This is the procedure, and they are told that the most important thing is THEIR safety. "Do whatever you have to do to assure your own safety." I don't know if there was any other details about this "stolen vehicle", but even if it WAS the correct vehicle, is someone driving a stolen vehicle automatically a violent and dangerous person? It seems excessive even if they DID have the correct vehicle, unless they had information indicating that it was stolen by a violent person. Be cautious, stay back and give orders from a distance, but pointing your weapon at someone who has shown no signs of violence just seems like the wrong way to go.
Officer who ran the tag and started all this without a simple double check needs to be fired for cause. No excuses from the department or the union. If that doesn’t happen this man should be able to make a “simple human mistake” like they did with that officers family, imagine that.
I lost track of how many lies they told. The reason it was such a coincidence is because it wasn't. It didn't come back stolen. It came back as non existent. The cover-up is worse than the crime.

It literally makes me sick to my stomach to hear these cops say, "no one ever gets hurt if they cooperate." "You cooperate that's how it ends, every time." If that were true Daniel Shaver among many, many others would still be alive today. Hearing the cries of these parents is heartbreaking. There *have* to be better ways of investigating than going right to this, and we need to start demanding that police are held legally to them.
My first thought was of Daniel Shaver when I watched this. Crap information and scared, adrenalin charged, officers make for disastrous results. The female officer was just too dense and uncaring to imagine how afraid the family were. When there is little or no sympathy for the demise of officers, look at this case and Daniel Shaver, to see how frightened officers, will kill, and then blame the victims, even when they are trying to co-operate. Disgusting show of incompetence.
Daniel Shaver is exactly why you should not perform all the commands they give. Get out of the car, get on your knees facing away from them with your hands high in the air. Then do not move. Make them come to you, no matter how much they shout. You can't guarantee you can walk backwards and do every single thing they tell you without moving your hand by accident. They will immediately murder you as soon as you make one wrong move. You are better to just remain motionless.
The female cop that started this whole mess… 7:20 “Let me explain to you what’s going on and why everything is happening the way it is. Okay? One, if everything checks out, we’re good.” No ma’am. We are not good. 7:46 “that’s why everything is happening the way it is. For our safety. And for everyone else.” Except you, the people we pointed out guns at. 7:55 “we’ve got your son. He’s back there. He’s fine.” No ma’am. He’s not fine. He’s traumatized and will forever be scared of getting pulled over and cops in general.
Hope this video is played on every major television station. One of the worst comments made was ad long ad people cooperate, nothing happens. Go tell that to the man who had his hands in the air and the cop released the dog on him which bit his ass up. These cops trying to explain their faults not mistakes. Why was the tag run in the first place?
The good thing about the apology being on video is that in a civil suit it's basically an admission of wrongdoing on the part of the cops. Open and shut case for the eventual lawsuit.
The license check from Arizona didn’t come back as same car, tag etc. the cops lied to avoid a lawsuit and they could’ve cared less about that family and what they just experienced. Shameful
Agreed. Their account wouldn't withstand even a moderate level of scrutiny. Imagine the odds of the same license plate number for two vehicles of the same make and color in two separate states. Cops were quick on their feet with a story. That kind of agility is learned through practice. They've covered each other for a long time
@@gman6352 Plus, the officer who originated the whole incident and looked up the plate explained at 7:20 that when she looked up the it it came back as "no associated vehicle".
She asks him "What do yu mean by that?" & when he comes back with a well-stated answer, she INSTANTLY starts downplaying, shaking her head & admonishing him about being terrorized. But that look on her face when she turned to the other cops, looking for someone to cover her ass -- PRICELESS!!
When the cops get a "hit" like this, there should be procedures in place to have to double check it, and then have a second person also check it independently before you do the felony stop. AND felony stops should only be done on people who are known to be or you have a good reason to believe are violent.
They always want to charge you with "resisting arrest" and "obstruction of justice" or "disorderly conduct" or "failure to ID" but what did they do to get those charges to begin with because they weren't charged with anything else but those things.

White cop 'apology' was merely a congratulations that they had passed their "Simon Says" test. If they'd done anything wrong on this illigitimate stop - like pick up his dropped phone - there would have been 'consequences'! So, the cops are allowed to make mistakes, but a family illegally stopped at gunpoint can pay with their life if they make a mistake. This "cop safety first, citizen safety be damned" policy has gone way too far. Today's cops behave like a gang of cowards unwilling to take the slightest risk for the sake of the civilians they should be serving. Above all else, they serve themselves.
The absolute incompetence of the female LEO that started the whole thing is baffling. No knowledge of geography, spelling, or investigation tactics. Just sees an out-of-state vehicle leaving a hotel and assumes it's stolen then types the plate info incorrectly. Shameful. I sincerely hope that the boy is OK. He seemed pretty traumatized.
I work on NCIC every day and here is my question...when the tag came back as stolen, why did they not verify the COLOR, MAKE, & MODEL of the vehicle and see if it matched the description of the stolen vehicle? It is true sometimes when you run a tag out of one state it comes back as a stolen vehicle from another state as a "Near-Hit". That is why the Dispatcher/Officer should always do a vehicle description check (as well as check the state from where the return came).Highly Unlikely that 2 vehicles with the same "Tag Number" are also the same color, make, and model of vehicle. When a stolen vehicle "hit" pops up, ALWAYS verify the description of the vehicle! EDIT: Pointed out to me several times that it didn't come back as stolen....that makes it even worse.
It didn't even actually come back as stolen. Officer Pat explains in one of the bodycam videos, that it showed it came back to nothing (in az) when they went into CYA mode, it suddenly turned into "a perfect match, everything, it's unbelievable" Good choice of words, because I didn't believe it for a second.

It didn’t come back as stolen. It came back as “incorrect registration.” My guess is that the plate number either doesn’t exist in Arizona or it’s registered to a totally different vehicle. If it’s registered to a different type of vehicle and they had entered the correct state, I could see them thinking someone had put plates from another car on this one. That would explain why they thought it was stolen.

That female cop is a huge liability if she gets something simple as running tags and got it wrong.... this family is traumatised and she's acting so casual.."my mistake" she said. Disgraceful!!!!
Sadly, many female officers are a liability. No one that I know confuses AR with AZ!

This is disgusting and heartbreaking!! Those kids will never forget this! The female cop is a disgrace! If she cant get abbreviations right she doesn't need a freaking badge!! She couldn't even give a good apology. Even at the end they still tried to twist it on him talking about the stupid plate frame.
Stupid people with guns and badges, make me nervous. Who ties their shoes for them? This is what happens with quota hires.
There are plenty of dumb male, and dumb white male cops.

Almost all police budgets continue to rise across the country and new hires are the largest portion of those budgets followed by more military gear. And at the bottom training for said new officers... the training is corrupted to be about getting around rights and everyone is out to get ya... ahhh real monsters... but yeah so more cops are gonna come next year with less experience and actual training... I wanna look at moving out of America. It seems like the only option...

"Do whatever you have to do to assure your own safety."
I don't know if there was any other details about this "stolen vehicle", but even if it WAS the correct vehicle, is someone driving a stolen vehicle automatically a violent and dangerous person? It seems excessive even if they DID have the correct vehicle, unless they had information indicating that it was stolen by a violent person. Be cautious, stay back and give orders from a distance, but pointing your weapon at someone who has shown no signs of violence just seems like the wrong way to go.

That statement was just as stupid as the fool that doesn't know state abbreviations.
Tony Timpa cooperated and he ended up stone cold dead before the ambulance ever arrived.

Officer Pat explains in one of the bodycam videos, that it showed it came back to nothing (in az) when they went into CYA mode, it suddenly turned into "a perfect match, everything, it's unbelievable"
