  • I’m using the Florida weave method again this year! If you’ve never seen how it’s done, this is how I made mine last season. Do you support your tomatoes?

I have always used natural twine and haven’t yet had an issue. This is basically what I plan on doing in my new 4x8 bed this year. And I may also use chicken wire in a different section for other stuff like peas and beans

T posts arewonderful! I like to use square premade string trellis it comes in a big roll and will last for many season, or many many garden boxes!

It’s a personal choice but I’d prefer not to support the plastic industry.
You can add tension to the natural twine by twisting it.
If you need to buy more twine, you’ll be supporting local business. Anyway, just my opinion and not everyone is going to be able to do it.

I agree. I'd rather not have any plastics near my plants and food. OG all natural materials are the way to go!

Yeah plastics are out if hand, they've even found traces of microplastics in stem cells now, holy hell...

With you on this. Convenience that comes at the cost of our planet isn’t really convenient in the long run.

Aaah!!!! Plastic twine! I used cotton twine last year & it totally lost its tension. I still got a great harvest, just a droopy one. 😅

Also Florida weave works best with determinate variety tomatoes

I recommend this for a small back yard garden, but absolutely not for a larger size one. It took me so long so many hours I suffered in the blazing hot sun. It took two people three days.

Unfortunately, any large garden trellis is a lot of work, but the ones I've used previously didn't really work well. I plan to try the weave this spring.

      As a note, I've tried:
      - above the plant (t-post and conduit) individual string lines
      - cattle panels held up by t-posts with string holding the plant until the grow tall enough
      - tomato cages

Ooh, Why? I am choosing a method for my first tomatoes, and would be interested in hearing the downside.

    • @jaket8947
      @jaket8947 Месяц назад

@@beevie4081 Just never had a good experience with it. We get enough wind storms that it breaks the stems and it's easier for me to use another option that let's them flex some, and I grow a LOT of tomatoes.

Wow instead of using stakes, you use huge metal stakes

  • @JohnJohn-wr1jo

T stakes and the Florida weave is for beginners. No way would this method work for anyone hoping it would support indeterminate tomatoes for more than two to three months.

I can solve all these issues by not growing tomatoes.
