In this age of pollution awareness, do they run these trains on commercial trips routinely or is this just a demo run of the old times?

They are commercial profit making operation. They only run because there is a demand for tickets to ride behind a steam locomotive.

@@LinesideSouthEast And no questions raised on the levels of pollution this causes by burning coal ?
I know thermal power stations also burn coal but that is processed coal and under controlled conditions. The coal burnt by locomotive engines is just raw coal and that is evident with the volume of smoke billowing.
