I just love you Kate. You are so cute funny and smart. I'm a frugal minimalist, too. I learned a lot from you about practical frugality. I'm also a single mom of two grown up daughters who are also frugal. You inspire single mothers and people who cares about our future
This comment just made my eyes water in a great way! I appreciate your kind words more than I can say❤️🙏 Thank you.
Commas are cute.
Am 56 in October children are adults most married have my home pension don't want anything but respect peace and quiet peace of mind
YASSS!!!!!
Great video. I heard someone once say as you go through life there is a point when you stop accumulating items and you start reducing.
I might be close to that point! LOL!
My number 1: is traveling - i plan way ahead and save and pay way ahead. Example next week I'll be paying for a cruise I'm taking in Nov. 2025. End of this year I'll put a deposit for a trip in 2026. I'm retired and 73.
Great idea!!! I'd love to go to Egypt.
LOVE!
I use a library e card to read more. It took me a bit to be willing to read electronically but I love it now. I do also buy books but not as often. I do this to save money but also space in my apartment.
Love this Lisa!!!
I don’t buy things I don’t need. I have a small condo.
I enjoy me time watching you tube freedom and peace of mind
YESSS!
I love to garden and grow fresh vegetables and fruits. Picked fresh blue berries this morning and dug up 3 gallons of potatoes.
Love!!
Sounds lovely. I love to grow flowers
I loved this,Kate! Thank you for inspiring us and reminding us to focus on what is important. ❤
You are so welcome! Thank you Robin!
I love to read too. Im in a book club. I get my books on amazon every other month. I also get used booked for $2 and have several waiting for me.
I love this!! Thank you for all your advice and frugal tips!!
I look at it as what can I actually use it for (if it is not consumable), like organizing bags or bins. I try to ask myself what I will use it for and if the answer is 'I am not sure' or I will find a use for it later' it is a big no on buying and bringing into my house. I did just replace an outdoor shelf for $25 and I am so excited that I know exactly what I will use it for. I will also try to get more consumable stuff (tealights, wax bars, laundry detergent, stain remover) etc. from friends (PartyLite, Scentsy and Norwex) when I can, as that is getting something useful for myself and supporting friends!!
I have also, like I have mentioned before, gotten really honest with myself on spending/impulse purchases and realized that as much as I want to support friends, I have to dial it back. I was buying something through them because they were having a sale and not because I actually needed it 😞 Learning a lot about myself through the 12 week year and also watching another RUclipsr (Kristen Boss)!!
YASSS LYLA!!!!!!!
I struggle with this a lot so I give myself an allowance each month in cash and online.
By doing this it has actually help control my spending habits and vigilant in buying and once gone I have to wait until month but buy essentials only.
LOVE!
Good job! I do the same.
56 year, in july i will work 32 hours a week( 4 days a week). Reduced it with 1 day. Living simple, still can save enough.❤ no extra jobs just 1.
LOVE THIS Linda!
Congratulations
YES!!!
Example: for me, kitchen gadgets and food supplies are something I try to reduce the need for. Many of the channels I watch on RUclips often speak of buying in bulk and freezing. But I live in an apartment with an apartment-sized fridge and don’t have endless room for bulk freezing. So, I go by the one in, one out rule in my freezer. I can buy something but only if I use what is taking up the room that the new item would need, first. I do have a lot of cabinets in my apartment kitchen, but again, I don’t buy things unless I know I have a place for them. Otherwise, I have to donate something to make space. I am working hard to surround myself only with things that mean something to me or that I will use, what I call “Useful Beauty.”
LOVE your channel, Kate!
In '21 we began a massive reorganizing and sorta, kinda decluttering effort which was prematurely and abruptly interrupted; 'ya know the type which makes a bigger mess before making less of a mess. '22 began with a number of organizational recovery and decluttering things on the list along with a consorted effort to use up what we owned towarss decluttering. It began by using all the opened and partially used things in the kitchen, 8n the house, and in the garage; as a natural consequence we bought less "stuff" and fewer things and we celebrated every container sent to recycle or the landfill garbage. By mid '22 our general spending budget went pretty close to complete bare bones as we dialed down on buying and began the "use what you own" and "make do" adages in earnest. In '23 we continued on with some financial savings type goals in mind, the sudden unplanned death and replacement of our only driver in April, and a general internalized reduced spending life style. '24 has us saving for some bigger ticket items put off, simply a good idea, or about to definitely be needed; and getting them done. In the process we continue to declutter, have taken smaller reorganization bites, use up what we own with a make do approach at times, and expand our frugality efforts both in daily living and with our projects even if it takes investment purchases. - Certainly for ourselves, using up what we own and also a list of wanted and needed purchases has worked wonders for prioritizing and reducing our spending. Even the small stuff like tape at Christmas went on the list; and we looked one more time before buying this time.
Thank you so much for sharing with us Terry! Making magic happen in time!
Decluttering everyday here. Sometimes it is just a very few things and sometines it is more. We don't need most of what we buy. It is easier to manage less. It is easier to clean, find things, and less stress.
I'm also into juicy currently watching Bridgerton.
SPEAKING OF JUUUICY!!! I have only seen Season 1!!!!
I buy books at dollar tree, yard sale, thrift shop, only buy new if it's a friend or someone I know is the author. Supporting friends.
Dining al fresco is one of my very favorite things to do. I've come to realize the happy feeling I get from it is the same on my own front porch (also in Maine 🙂). And it's much cheaper (and healthier) than a restaurant!
Me too thanks to Kate
Walking the dogs is a great freebie, or even better walk a family member/ neighbours dog who perhaps struggles to do so. Good karma and good exercise! 😊
YASSS!!! Love it Ashley!
My next book club book will come from the library.
I'm also going to write a list of hobbies I enjoy doing infrequently or want to try or start (plus your list of current priorities). I have a lot of supplies already, or they're cheap or freely available, so I would save money by using what I have when I feel bored! Thank you for the idea 🎉
Love this Cindy!!!
For anyone wondering, most libraries have apps to get ebooks, audiobooks, movies, etc.
I love the "where is it gonna go". I always wanted to stay away from big or large toys for my kids because they took up so much space.

MY FRONT PORCH ROOM LOL … I’m finally putting effort and money in it … Buying Rocking Chairs today they will cost 200.00 for both but I’ve wanted them literally for years… I WILL GET SUCH ENJOYMENT OUT OF THEM… while I set and listen to the birds drink my morning coffee and look at flowers PEACR
Great list!
I downgraded my home size- no room to fill in with unnecessary extras.
I like your white board format.
Thank you so much!
Just found out I'll be buying a $400 ticket and needing a bit of spending cash to make 2nd trip to Fl next year. (Went this year already). My niece is having a 2nd knee replacement and will need lots of care, house cleaning, cooking, errands and rides for her & husband to many Dr. Appts. Not how I planned to spend my vaca again this year. (Wanted to connect with nature with other outdoor lovers.) So...your help saving is going to be very helpful!
Absolutely!!!! You've got this! You are such a good person Judith. So kind and loving. Your niece is so lucky to have you.
Love the video
I also love reading and I'm apart of a book club. I've been purchasing my books from Amazon, but wanted to try audible books, but I didn't want to pay, since I'm in the middle of working the snowball method. So, thank you for mentioning that RUclips have a free audible book platform. I always gain good information from you. Thank you 😊
Many libraries also offer some sort of audible book program too.
Thank you so much!
@@terryhenderson424 Okay, Thank you
Reading (research type), gardening (veggies), cooking (food preservation) & beading basic & native american. All can be cheap or free & I could make money with them.
Love your list!
I used Dana K. White's container concept to keep my scrapbooking supplies under control. I have to use up what's in my tote before I can purchase anything new, which I will be doing tomorrow. 🙂 I also love using my library.
YASSSS!!!
1 in - 1 out 👍🏻
YAS!
This content ist sooooooo good! Greetings from Austria , Europe 😊 Alexandra
That means SO much to me! THANK YOU Alexandra:)
Love this! It is truly all about finding the things that you love and finding contentment in them. 🥰
YASSS!!!! Thank you Joel & Christy!
Since the beginning of the year we have streamlined our spending to the point that we’ve actually cut out enough spending that we are using that savings for a car payment ( yes, we needed to replace a vehicle)
YASSS Niki!
Live by powells in Portland! Lots of used books! My favorite!
I'm also an avid reader and yes, I do support authors I enjoy by purchasing their books. With that said, I will also search garage sales, thrift stores AND we have a Half Price Bookstore that I love!
See you tomorrow!
Yes please! ❤❤❤❤
The only Niknaks I'm interested is the South African Brand Simba Niknaks or Willards Cheese Naks
Kate, I really love hearing you speak and motivating us!! Maybe.. can you use a mic for your vids? So I can hear you more clearly and more binge watching ur vids.... !
The control over buying staple items, make one staple run every 2 to 3 months. Eg. Buy enough toilet paper, paper towels, toothpaste, etc for your predetermined time period.
Another tip is to take pictures of your pantry before you go food shopping so you know what you do or do not need to purchase.
Buying the Correct Book is the one You Underline and read several times
Re video: I would suggest to invest in a better quality microphone.
I watch John Campeia, Dan Mirro, and Chris Stuckman to gage how bad do I want to biy a movie
I enjoy traveling so I pause & consider do I prefer this item or adding the cost towards funds for my next vacation.
❤❤❤
Our local library will buy 2 books per person in our house for free-we request-they order and call when in, we check out, read and return. They now share with like 52 other libraries so if at another one they will ship in 1 time per wk. and let you borrow for 5 plus wks. to read and return to our local library
Love this!!!!!
I really like how you narrowed down the things you love todo to 5 activities, I need todo the same because I tend to buy to much stuff to do things, that I’m not sure I even have the time for now. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. 😊
You are SO welcome Heather!!!!
I love reading too. I have bought far too many books so I have decided to read the books I own before thinking about buying anymore and then probably using the library. Your videos are a great help to me!
This makes me so happy! I'm so glad you're here!
I only buy books if I will read it again. I do a lot of free entertainment. I do the one in one out rule.
I use RUclips instead of Netflix
Kate I love how you broke down this concept creatively. I plan to do the same . I like it because it centers you to think about what truly you want to spend your time on🎉
Thank you so so much Carmen! So glad it was helpful!
Great video!
Thank you Martha!
I am selling years worth of accumulation to now use those funds to add time to our planned trips. It greatly motivates you to minimize, when the result is 10 days in Spain, or a week in Singapore. 😊😊
YASSSSS!!! So awesome!
Good Morning Sunshine..Hope you have a great day

I carefully think about my purchases. Only buy that adds to my happiness.
Im not perfect sometimes I will buy without too much thought but my limit is 20 Australian dollars.
Kate you have encouraged me. Thank you
Watching you are in my top 5
Thanks so much!!!!!!
I am planning an epic trip next April for my 65th birthday, so I am doing a no spend for the 12 week year. And the next one. I have a netflix subscription and no others. I have my groceries down to 2oo or 3oo a month. I am flying business class from the West Coast of Canada to the East Coast and taking trains all the way back to the west. About 125 hours on 3 trains. I will stay in hotels in Halifax, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. On the train from Toronto to Vancouver, I will have a bedroom with a double bed, a TV a washroom with a shower, and room service if i want it. I have been saving for 5 years and now the train booked! I love trains. Its a trip of a lifetime!
AN EPIC TRIP! I LOVE THIS!
Sounds wonderful. Enjoy the journey.
Hi from Madawaska,Maine I’m a fan of your posts
So glad you are here my fellow Mainah! Thank you so much!
I check the library before buying books and so far as clothes shoes and accessories I see if they’re really needed or really wanted and why. I don’t even purchase purses anymore and I cut down drastically on perfumes jewelry etc. Quality over quantity always
I have developed a different mindset about buying things. If I buy something and do not use it I consider that the same as throwing money away. I also have come to realize that most media has a very low resale value. For example a book I spent $35 on, an online resale site offered only 22 cents. Not even a dollar. So I have decided to try to get things for free for example at the library. Or used at the lowest cost. Not to purchase any item unless it is something I will make use of.
❤❤❤😮😮😮😊😊😊
I don't shop 2 shop. When I need something then I go and get it its that simple.😊😊😊
I loved this exercise! My top 5 right now are reading, running, watching sports, spending quality time with family, and making friendship bracelets. The bracelets are a great craft that doesn’t cause too much clutter (embroidery floss doesn’t take up much space) but brings me so much joy. I also look for string at thrift stores! Once I found some in the Goodwill bins 😂
I read 100% for free through my public library. Running costs money for gear, fuel, and race entry fees but I try to take good care of my things so they last longer. I pay for RUclips TV (a household expense) but no other streaming services. Quality time is mostly free, except for restaurant meals.
Love this Elise!
I just stop going to Home Goods 😂
☺
I love to read too and have an Amazon Prime Kindle Unlimited subscription. I also use the library. I was tempted to join a monthly book service for hard back books. But I don’t have any bookcases since I decluttered them. The question ‘Where will I Put These?’ was a game changer and stopped me in my tracks.
YASSS Leigh!
Great video! May has been a low buy month for me and I've discovered that I prefer cooking at home to eating out. I love to cook and my partner loves my food, so it's working out great. We went out once for sushi cuz I don't make that. It felt extra special because it's once a month instead of every week. June is going to be my declutter month. My goal is gratitude for all that I have. Thanks for your support! ❤❤❤
🙌❤️
Thank you. I do that with pantry items. I quit buying specific recipe spices or condiments. It usually expires and has to be thrown out. Saves me a ton of money by cooking with simple ingredients. Thank you, Carolyn from Maryland.
Thank you so Carolyn!!!!!!
Hi Kate! This video made me think :-). I enjoy reading and most books are ebooks from the library these days. I have a yarn problem though, have lots of yarn, have cut back buying in the past couple of years. Flower and vegetable gardening can get expensive, but I have learned to save seeds and start veggies and flowers from seed in the spring. Along those lines, I buy perennial flowers, and divide every few years to increase flowers around my yard - and even trade plants with other flower friends. Kitchen gadgets! Have discovered over the years new things that come out really don't add much value to cooking. One perk of my part time job is we wear uniforms - helps keep clothing costs lower! Hope all of you have a great Memorial Day Weekend!
Donna!!! So happy to see you. Thank you so much for watching and sharing with us:)
"What delights you?" What a great question! I love how some activities can yield multiple delights. My dance class provides movement for health, new steps to learn for mental stimulation, social connection, accountability, and the joys of music. With an annual membership of $10, it is well worth the investment. Thank you for another thought provoking program, Kate. Keep those delights flowing!!!
YASS Dance class!!! Thanks for watching and sharing with us. So glad you're here!
This video is exactly what I need right now! Excellent content. Thanks, Kate!

If you like to mix your history with a good story, check out the Nineteenth Wife. It is the story of a nineteenth wife of a nineteenth wife in the early days of Mormanism. There were some notes in the back of edition I read but as an uncollaborated historical story, it is found among the fiction books.
Thank you, Terry! This sounds interesting! I'll check it out this weekend too.
