10:57 Kopi Luwak is coffee beans that come from the remains of civet or palm civet animal droppings. The main reason why civet coffee is expensive is because of its unique and natural process. The mongoose will only eat high quality coffee cherries. 17:33 The man wearing glasses on the left is Mr. Mohammad Hatta. He is the First Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia. The man on the right is Mr Soetan Sjahrir. He was the First Prime Minister of the Republic of Indonesia The man in the middle is the First President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Ir. Sukarno The origin of the Red and White flag dates back hundreds of years. The red and white color as a national symbol was first found in the Mount Butak Inscription from the Majapahit kingdom around 1294 AD. Red means "courageous" while White means "holy" or "righteous". So that Merah Putih means "dare for the truth" The Red and White Flag, or better known as the Sang Saka Merah Putih Heritage Flag, was first flown as a symbol/identity of the Indonesian State, on August 17 1945. The flag is a flag sewn by the First First Lady of Indonesia, Mrs. Fatmawati.
Indonesia was colonized by six countries, namely Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch, British, French and Japan. But the majority of Indonesian society has begun to forget the past and focus on Indonesia's future.
@@RailwxyMC Do you know anything about Indonesian history? So read history. When Indonesia was controlled by the Dutch, the Dutch fought against France and France won the war.
Most Indonesians (at least in daily life) don't have grunge against Dutch and Japanese anymore, heck Most of the youngsters love Japanese culture so much (weeb culture is big here) and we have big import/export relationship with Japan. We treat that as history in the past. Funny that recently Dutch sent a representative to Indonesia and had him apologize for what happened in the past. The man is very visibly scared meanwhile we're like "chill bro, are you okay?" Although there was some tension from a company called Freeport. Basically, it was a US mining company that is the largest and most profitable gold mine in the world. To simplify, this company was a pact that Indonesia and the US had because we needed the US to help Indonesian independence. The tension comes because most of the profit is owned by them and the locals almost do not get the benefits except for the cheap working job. Nowadays finally Indonesian government has successfully fought back gained more than 51% share and has the right to own the company. Very good as Papua is one least developed provinces in Indonesia
Indonesian people are basically patient and forgiving people, people who love peace. Let the past be history but look now, the countries that once were Colonizing Indonesia now has good relations
tbh as Indonesian, personally I have no ill-thoughts about the Dutch but not to forget about history. It's more like, I think of it more as "we WON against them and our ancestors fought for the Independence & it was not a gift or anything like that". I think it's pride? Also, this is modern day, where we have our own problems we need to solve in the country.

Naif sekali anda. Orang munafik.
My grandfather used to be good at Dutch but never used it in everyday life. Every day you use a regional language when you go to the office or government, then use Indonesian.
5:21 you might have seen something similar. If you watched Pirates of the Caribbean (I forgot which one), you will see the East India Trading Company (EITC). It has some similarities, not only the symbol but also how they conducted trades throughout those era

the flag .. Red reflection blood/courage, white reflection bone/purity ,the colors basicly from the ancient kingdom of Majapahit Empire which is genuinly indonesian ancestor and the color now used by USA,UK/colony like malaysian, etc.
6:50 No, I think we dont have resentment or hatred in recent generations to all countries ever rule us like spain, england, france, portugal, nederland or japan but if there is something happen like the policies of european or those countries like banned indonesia if we dont wanna export our nickel to them, we will fight them and remembering them again what they did in the past that they want to colonized us again in modern way.

I have to say that Indonesia have quite a good relationship with Dutch these days also with Japanese who ruled Indonesia for 3.5 years but the painfull feel more than 350 years of Dutch time
Currently about two million people with origins from the Indonesian archipelago live in the Netherlands. - In 1949, after Indonesian independence, 350,000 people were exiled to the Netherlands. These were Indonesians with European ancestors, and natives who did not want to be part of the republic of Indonesia. - In 1950, about 16,000 Moluccan soldiers and their families were brought to the Netherlands by military order. - In 1963, a Papuan migration began to move to the Netherlands, because Dutch New Guinea was handed over to the UN, after which the Indonesian army intervened and made New Guinea part of Indonesia. - In 1966, another group of Indonesian people came to the Netherlands, this group was exiled by Suharto because they were suspected of communism. - In 1975, after the independence of Suriname, the Javanese diaspore migrated to the Netherlands. The migrants were descendants of the Javanese who worked as contract workers in Suriname in the 19th century. - In 1998, approximately 6,000 Indonesians of Chinese descent migrated to the Netherlands. The Indonesians of Chinese descent became involved in riots. Even into the 1980s, there were many small conflicts in the Netherlands between the different population groups from the former Dutch East Indies. But the different groups have since sought rapprochement and now live together peacefully. In any case, the 3rd and 4th generations focus more on the future and on the Netherlands. The economic ties between the Netherlands and Indonesia are good. The Netherlands is the fourth largest investor in Indonesia after China, Japan and Singapore. Indonesia trades a lot with Rotterdam because it is the gateway to the EU, Indonesia is important for the Netherlands because of its access to ASEAN markets. Since 2010, Dutch Prime Minister Rutte, the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Dutch Ambassador to Indonesia have apologized for the past crimes of the Dutch military. Since 2011, the Dutch government has also provided financial compensation to relatives of victims executed by Dutch soldiers. Surviving relatives can receive €5,000 (rp 83,000,000) per person. Family members from the island of Sulawesi received compensation between €10,000-20,000 (rp 165,000,000-330,000,000) per person. In 2020, King Willem-Alexander apologized live on Indonesian television for the past crimes of the Dutch. The Dutch government has also ordered all Dutch museums to return stolen art from the former colonies. Since 1966, the Netherlands has donated between 80 and 100 million euros in development money to Indonesia every year. The Netherlands stopped this in 2017 because Indonesia is rich enough and the Netherlands would rather donate the money to conflict countries. In short: The Dutch government and Royal family have apologized for the abuses of the Dutch in Indonesia (which country and monarch in the world has done this?). History lessons in Dutch schools are also being rewritten so that Dutch students have a more complete worldview of both the positive and negative sides of Dutch history. Dutch museums donate all the looted arts to Indonesia, and the Dutch government provides financial compensation to Indonesian surviving relatives. The Netherlands cannot alleviate all the Indonesian suffering for the Indonesian people, but the current generation of the Netherlands is trying its best to condemn their ancestors.
I'm pretty bothered when he thought it was shaped by dutch, it was shaped by old kingdom called Majapahit and the country called Nusantara, but because Majapahit was ruined and colonial era is come and taking their own region like malaysia, singapore, philipine and more, it was devided. CMIIW
Forgive but not forget in order to learn that the same thing would never happened again in the future, for all aspects, minor or major, vicible or unvicible. That is how Indonesia appreciate our independence. And these efforts are still doing by our goverment. Because the fact is, there are still many companies owned by foreigners occupies here in Indonesia which indonesia have no properly share provit
Generally most Indonesian don't hold any grudge to either Dutch or Japan because of the colonization eventho because of the Roundtable conference between Indonesia and Dutch, Indonesia had to pay the Dutch East Indies debts which only in 2002 they were able to clear it. Anyway no grudge or whatsoever between two countries nowdays. The Dutch people love Indonesian foods and a lot of Indonesian went to Netherland to study. The red and white flag's colours are derived from the banner of the 13th century Majapahit Empire, which had ruled in present-day Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, southern Thailand, Timor Leste, southwestern Philippines. The meaning it self, red represent courage and white represent purity.
PS if interested there is a documentary about dutch history and its colonies , 1 the golden age and 2 the iron century . Some on has put english subtitles under them , and tells a lot about dutch collonies including Dutch Brazil , And how indonesia was subjegated in the 2nd half of the 1800s
3:50 .They don't use spices anymore nowadays, because they have stopped colonizing the world (especially Indonesia). They prefer to use chemical ingredients.
Spices was used to preserve food/meat before refrigerator was found.. Imagine you kill a cow, but you have to finish eating all of it the same day, because it will going bad the next day. but if you put spices (nutmeg) on it, it can last for 10 days without losing it taste. Thats why it was so expensive back then.
@@TeacherPaulReacts Salt will make the food salty.. Too much sodium/salt can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke. Nutmeg preserve the meat by killing the bacteria and fungus, it slows the decomposition/spoils. and clove will add the aromatic on the food/dish. The Arab traders brought the spices from far east/Indo to be traded in north Africa, Marocco, Egypt. The first European who knew about the spices, of course the neighbors, the Spanish and the Portguese.. They're the first who started an expedition to find the Indo land. then followed by other European. And the first European who found the Spice islands mentioned in the video, actually the Portuguese.
Most indonesian is chill about the colonization of the past, it is a thing of the past that we have learned from, we think differently that we didn't get to where we are now without those history, like the flag some may say it has meaning but most will say it just a dutch flag but indonesian just ripped the blue because the dutch wears blue uniform, the indonesian language we adopted some of dutch words and from japan believe it or not we mostly play playstation rather than xbox and some japan culture we adopted also like bowing slightly to greet someone and the most imprtant thing without those history we wouldn't found so much valuables in indonesia, so yeah we pretty chill
3:07 surprisingly Canada and Finland have them beat, but all their islands are like... Bup-bud-dup~ little islands in the lakes, so does it really count? Eeeh 🤷🏻 -Barby(? idk how his name is spelled)
The red and white colors of Indonesian flag originated from the old Majapahit Empire flag and also the Mataram Sultanate flag. Both kingdoms used red and white colors in their flags respectively. Red means bravery, white means purity.
History of the Red and White Flag The Indonesian flag has existed since the time of the Nusantara kingdom. The First Kingdom was Majapahit, which was based in East Java, which made the red and white flag a symbol of its greatness in the 13th century. The meaning of the red and white flag is that red means brave and white means holy. Another meaning, red symbolizes the human body. While white symbolizes the human soul. Both complement and perfect Indonesia. So the red and white flag has nothing to do with the Dutch flag. Why do some people think the Indonesian flag comes from the Dutch flag with the blue ripped off? In fact, the Hotel Yamato Surabaya incident occurred on 19 September 1945, a month after the raising of the Red and White flag during the Proclamation of Independence on 17 August 1945. To be precise, on September 19 1945, Surabaya areks tore the blue Dutch flag which was flying at the Yamato Hotel, Surabaya. Arek-arek Surabaya was angry with the Dutch who were considered to have raised the flag arbitrarily. Arek Surabaya's anger was natural, because Indonesia had proclaimed independence a month earlier. Apart from that, Indonesia is focusing on promoting the spirit of independence in all regions in Indonesia. As a result, an initiative emerged from Arek Surabaya to tear down the flag. This event also became the momentum that triggered the events of November 10 1945, which would later be commemorated as Heroes' Day. Terimakasih Bro Paul❤
these days many african american play a victim card(BLM) because their ancestor was enslaved in america, but the american slavery just last 89 years from 1776 until 1865. but my ancestor was enslaved by duch for 350 years. yet we never start a riot in the name of "indonesian live mater". because we know we are free now. and we held no grudge to dutch anymore because we know that is just a past and we are thankful that now in the present day we are free and independence
INDONESIA sebenarnya bukan dijajah BELANDA sebagai Negara, Tetapi Para Pembisnis/Pedagang Belanda yaitu VOC, yang diberi kekuasaan sama halnya sebuah negara belanda itu sendiri . . .
Indonesia are so huge and diverse so that some people on the frontier islands actualy think that the Javanese are colonizing them, especialy during the New Order where the central goverment introduce "transmigration policy" where people from densly populated Java are migrated to every part of Indonesia with the goverment support, just like what the european did during colonisation.
@@TeacherPaulReactsyeah..i mean Beside that.. Why they never interested to use the spices while selling.. Or maybe they don't like spices Btw.. Yes... Next to the part to please
At that time, the price of spices in very expensive at europe, that's why the europe country goes overseas to find the origins of spicies with any method..
6:55 my answer would be yesn't. Yes I hate the old Dutch and Japanese, but on the other side they're no longer colonizing us. Instead, they work with us in many aspect which also benefits us as a country. So I think the trauma as a whole nation is still there, but we're living in a different world right now
The meaning of the red and white flag. Red my blood and white my bone lol. Namely red means brave and white means holy. Another meaning red represents the human body, while white symbolizes the human soul. Both complement each other and perfect indonesia.
Fyi Paul ... Indonesia land with all richness of HIS CREATIONS : with all resourcess (nature, culture, human, diversity, etc) is second to none in the world, with a lots of properous kingdom & Sultanate across Indonesia Island that time ... that was why drove several countries, mainly the Dutch colonized us as long as 350 years ... leaving a lot of pain n sorrow, provided no education for people, especially the poor but the wealthy only ( my parent were in that bitter periode ), leaving us weak, uneducated & left behind ... how the Dutch brutally robbed our natural resources like spices, employed our people to build roads n train track along Java Island with no salary & no mercy ... But now ... Since our independence in August 17, 1945 ... every one can see, who Indonesia truly is ... Awakened, strong, diverse, unite, prosperous & keep moving forward ... Keep achieving our dreams ... ❤❤❤😊😊😊
Elderly might resent the Dutch (and Japanese). But that's the generation of my grandfather (where the majority of them should be passed away by now). Younger people are generally not (started around my parents' generation).
Forgive not forget. Come here for more hospitality, we will serve you different next time. We promise you a land for your last burial, bring all your dutch here, we miss you deeply to our blood and bone.

We don't hate the Dutch. Even though the Dutch colonized Indonesia. Even so, there are good things for our country. Even though they colonized for 3.5 centuries, there are still Dutch legacies that are also useful for you Indonesian citizens. This is different from Japan, which colonized Indonesia for 3.5 years but destroyed Indonesian culture and order by stealing, killing and raping almost women in Indonesia. Nothing matters The slightest kindness from the Japanese invaders. Honestly, we hated the Japanese colonialists more than the Dutch colonialists. Dutch colonialists still taught good things by establishing Dutch Indonesian schools
We dont really have those resentment. but sometimes to raise the spirit of patriotism/nationalsm we use some slogan about our past history, and of course it doesnt sounds good for hollanders
Indonesia's resentment toward the Dutch and Japan is long gone, what's left is inferiority towards the West. I'm going to argue that that's why we are 'kind' to foreigner because I think we can still feel that they are our superiors. It's very difficult to peel off. Although we are also kind and smiley towards one another, so we are probably that kind. But we have to realize that we do have an inferiority complex. We always feel the need to prove to the world that we are great every chance we get. That's why videos like yours are filled with comments from us that sounds like 'look look! see how cool we are? see? see?' I do that too lol
Ya, sampai sekarang nenek saya menceritakan bagai mana kejamnya penjajahan, merenguk hak hidup yg layak, Belanda 350 thn, Jepang 3setengah tahun lamanya hidup di tindas, belum harta benda di curi.
The exploration of the oceans carried out by European nations since the 15th century AD carried the mission of gold, glory, gospel or 3G which then gave rise to the practice of colonialism and imperialism. So, what is the meaning of 3G, historical background and purpose? Spain and Portugal were the pioneers of Western ocean exploration to all corners of the world with the aim of discovering new places which would later be the beginning of the era of colonialism and imperialism. The Treaty of Tordesillas, signed in Tordesillas, Spain, on 7 June 1494, and ratified in Setúbal, Portugal, divided the newly discovered lands outside Europe between the Portuguese Empire and the Spanish Empire (Crown of Castile), along a meridian 370 leagues west of the Cape Verde islands, off the west coast of Africa. That line of demarcation was about halfway between the Cape Verde islands (already Portuguese) and the islands visited by Christopher Columbus on his first voyage (claimed for Castile and León), named in the treaty as Cipangu and Antillia (Cuba and Hispaniola) The lands to the east would belong to Portugal and the lands to the west to Castile, modifying an earlier division proposed by Pope Alexander VI. The treaty was signed by Spain, 2 July 1494, and by Portugal, 5 September 1494. The other side of the world was divided a few decades later by the Treaty of Zaragoza, signed on 22 April 1529, which specified the antimeridian to the line of demarcation specified in the Treaty of Tordesillas. Despite a considerable lack of information regarding the geography of the New World, Portugal and Spain largely respected the treaty. The other European powers, however, did not sign the treaty and generally ignored it, particularly those that became Protestant after the Reformation. Similarly, the indigenous peoples of the Americas did not acknowledge the treaty, and as the legal foundation for the discovery doctrine,[9][page needed]it has been a source of ongoing tension regarding land ownership into modern times. The treaty was included by UNESCO in 2007 in its Memory of the World Programme. Originals of both treaties are kept at the General Archive of the Indies in Spain and at the Torre do Tombo National Archive in Portugal History and Background In the book Principles of Political Geography (1957) written by Weigert and W. Hans, it is stated that on June 7 1494 the Treaty of Tordesilas was agreed upon by the Portuguese and Spanish. This agreement was an agreement to divide the world between the two most influential Catholic kingdoms in Europe at that time, namely Portugal and Spain. The Portuguese Empire controlled the eastern world, while the Spanish Empire controlled the western world, which was determined through special calculations The Treaty of Tordesilas was actually the idea of Pope Alexander VI from the Vatican as a solution to the rivalry between the two Catholic kingdoms. He issued a policy or fatwa on gold, glory and gospel, aka 3G. Thus, the aim of the Portuguese and Spanish in exploring the oceans, apart from gaining wealth (gold) and glory (glory), was also to carry out the mission of spreading religion (gospel). The exploration activities carried out by the Portuguese and Spanish covered almost all parts of the world, including the archipelago or what later became the territory of Indonesia. The first arrival of the Portuguese in the archipelago was in the early 16th century AD. Spain had intervened in this area but then had to leave after the Treaty of Zaragoza was agreed on April 22, 1529. Meaning and Purpose of Gold, Glory, Gospel Apart from gaining wealth (gold) and spreading religion (gospel), another important goal is to gain glory (glory). This glory could take the form of power over colonial territories, as well as its influence on Catholic kingdoms in Europe. This means that exploration into new territories was not only to establish power over those territories, but also to strengthen the position of the Portuguese or Spanish kingdoms in Europe. As an analogy, a nation that explores the moon, not only for lunar exploration, but also has an influence on Earth society. When the exploration was successful, their power or greatness was recognized by other European nations. The more numerous and powerful their colonies, the stronger the position of the Catholic kingdom in Europe. People affiliated with the kingdom also tended to obtain nobility and be respected by their rivals. Gold Gold means the desire to gain wealth in new discovered territories. The wealth exploited from these new territories was then used for the interests of imperialist kingdoms/countries such as Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, England, France and others. Glory Glory is defined as glory or in more detail gaining colonial territories to be controlled through ocean exploration. So, Western imperialist countries once had many colonies in various parts of the world. .Reported by the Encyclopedia page, glory means the glory desired by the officials of the Catholic kingdom, both Spanish and Portuguese. The two nations competed with each other to obtain colonial territories and establish influence in the areas they explored, as well as honor among the Europeans themselves. Gospel The Jesuit mission requires that the sacred task of preaching the gospel needs to be carried out everywhere, wrote Usman Nomay in an article entitled "Portuguese and the Christianization Mission in Ternate" in the journal Fikrah (Volume 2, June 2014). Thus, the gospel is a religious or missionary mission. Apart from gaining wealth and glory in new discovered places, imperialist nations also spread their religion in these new territories.
U got it.. Its not because we have no resentment...but before voc, we were already Moslems and we believe in Our God Almighty. ..if the voc didn't colonized, we could be more fantastic than european...anyway...we refuse to use dutch as our language even as second language...like commonwealth countries use english as their second language or like french d autre territoires use french as their linguafranca....no chance for dutch to show off their glory of the past

The origin of the Red and White flag dates back hundreds of years.
The red and white color as a national symbol was first found in the Mount Butak Inscription from the Majapahit kingdom around 1294 AD.
Red means "courageous" while White means "holy" or "righteous".
So that Merah Putih means "dare for the truth"
The Red and White Flag, or better known as the Sang Saka Merah Putih Heritage Flag, was first flown as a symbol/identity of the Indonesian State, on August 17 1945.
The flag is a flag sewn by the First First Lady of Indonesia, Mrs. Fatmawati.

The man is very visibly scared meanwhile we're like "chill bro, are you okay?"
Although there was some tension from a company called Freeport.
I think this whole apology thing is total nonsense
why should we have to make excuses for something that happened 400 or 500 years ago
Indonesian people are basically patient and forgiving people, people who love peace. Let the past be history but look now, the countries that once were Colonizing Indonesia now has good relations

CMIIW

Ahh, that's neat! I thought only salt was used to preserve meat
Spice is also use as medicine, preservative and food ingridient.

-Barby(? idk how his name is spelled)

INDONESIA sebenarnya bukan dijajah BELANDA sebagai Negara, Tetapi Para Pembisnis/Pedagang Belanda yaitu VOC, yang diberi kekuasaan sama halnya sebuah negara belanda itu sendiri . .

Merah melambangkan keberanian, putih melambangkan kesucian, itulah makna merah putih.

Indonesian people I love peace but that doesn't mean we afraid of blood... for 350 years in every generation we have had many warriors who dared to sacrifice themselves for freedom, now in the internet era you can find out how many heroes Indonesia has who died fighting imperialism... one of the mottos left behind by our ancestors "one dies, 1000 grow"',,, freedom or death... Western countries always say that Eastern women are lagging behind in their two rights... Did you know that the first female admiral in the world was in Indonesia... Admiral Malahayati from Aceh Indonesia,,,,she led 2000 women with 200 ships in war again Dutch and Portuguese army,,you can check in RUclips...,,we love peace, it doesn't mean we are afraid of blood...and nowadays you can check netizens which one is the most polite and the most brutal,,, Indonesian netizen, one of the most polite and the most brutal...polite when the person facing him is polite...but when something that concerns his homeland is disturbed suddenly it can turn into very brutal and not polite,,,,Microsoft once released a ranking of Indonesian netizens at the bottom, aka the most brutal,,,because they have experienced the brutality of Indonesian netizens...,,,,thanks for reacting to the history of my country,,,,,,and sorry my English is Google translate
Dutch and Indonesia, we forgive but we never forget, coz Dutch never been say sorry for what they have done for Century in Indonesia 😊
Dutch colonialists still taught good things by establishing Dutch Indonesian schools
millions lives were losts due the dutch colonialism in indonesia and the treasures of ancient kingdoms were stolen.
That's why videos like yours are filled with comments from us that sounds like 'look look! see how cool we are? see? see?' I do that too lol
red means bravery, white is holy.
That line of demarcation was about halfway between the Cape Verde islands (already Portuguese) and the islands visited by Christopher Columbus on his first voyage (claimed for Castile and León), named in the treaty as Cipangu and Antillia (Cuba and Hispaniola)
The lands to the east would belong to Portugal and the lands to the west to Castile, modifying an earlier division proposed by Pope Alexander VI.
Originals of both treaties are kept at the General Archive of the Indies in Spain and at the Torre do Tombo National Archive in Portugal
History and Background
In the book Principles of Political Geography (1957) written by Weigert and W. Hans, it is stated that on June 7 1494 the Treaty of Tordesilas was agreed upon by the Portuguese and Spanish. This agreement was an agreement to divide the world between the two most influential Catholic kingdoms in Europe at that time, namely Portugal and Spain. The Portuguese Empire controlled the eastern world, while the Spanish Empire controlled the western world, which was determined through special calculations
The Treaty of Tordesilas was actually the idea of Pope Alexander VI from the Vatican as a solution to the rivalry between the two Catholic kingdoms.
Meaning and Purpose of Gold, Glory, Gospel
Apart from gaining wealth (gold) and spreading religion (gospel), another important goal is to gain glory (glory).
Gold
Gold means the desire to gain wealth in new discovered territories. The wealth exploited from these new territories was then used for the interests of imperialist kingdoms/countries such as Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, England, France and others.
Glory
Glory is defined as glory or in more detail gaining colonial territories to be controlled through ocean exploration.
Gospel
The Jesuit mission requires that the sacred task of preaching the gospel needs to be carried out everywhere, wrote Usman Nomay in an article entitled "Portuguese and the Christianization Mission in Ternate" in the journal Fikrah (Volume 2, June 2014).
