The British soldiers weren't there during Japanese's occupation (1942 - 1945). And the Dutch who suffered defeat from Japan, some were killed, some were captured, and some were expelled by the Japanese.
After the Japanese lost the World War II (15 August 1945), and after Indonesian first president Soekarno declared Indonesian independence (17 August 1945), the Dutch asked for help from the British to accompany the Dutch in securing and disarm the rest of the Japanese in Indonesia (because the Dutch don't have enough money and military equipment due to the impact of WWII). That's why on 23 August 1945, the Dutch accompanied by the British invaded Indonesia. It became the very first invasion in history after World War II.
However, because the Dutch used the "excessive violences" to locals, and the remaining Japanese had already given their weaponary and military trainings to Indonesian, the war broke between Dutch, British Vs. Indonesian soldiers & resistances. It was called as "Indonesian Independence War" (1945 - 1949).
The US noticed the war in Indonesia, and asked the Dutch to leave Indonesia alone, including the British, because their initial purpose was just to secure and disarm the remaining Japanese troops in Indonesia. The British agreed to go home, because the war had become too bloody and took the life of one British general. So, the British left Indonesia in 1946.
But because it was hard for the Dutch to leave Indonesia after hundreds of years of colonization, the Dutch stayed and continued their military aggression against Indonesian soldiers & resistance.
After many international pressures on the Netherlands, and the US threatening to cut off all economic aid for World War II rebuilding efforts, the Dutch was recognized as Indonesian independence in 1949, and left most parts of Indonesia (except West Papua until 1962).
In 2005 (60 years after 1945), the Netherlands through their Foreign Minister (Bernard Bot) officially recognized Indonesian Independence on 17 August 1945. And in 2020, Dutch Royal King Willem-Alexander apologized for "excessive violence" during the Indonesian Independence War.

interesting facts. 1. Indonesia was colonized by the Netherlands at that time the Netherlands was colonized by another country if I'm not mistaken it was France. 2. The Netherlands and Japan colonized Indonesia but the big war was the Indonesian people against the British troops / NICA (old version of NATO). 3. The Netherlands controlled Indonesia in terms of territory but not for language, culture and religion. 4. Many troops from the British side defected, especially troops from India and Pakistan. 5. England's involvement made Indonesia wary of England and even the formation of Malaysia. 6. The USA pressured the Netherlands when the Soviet Union and China intervened.

Indonesia was once attacked and colonized by Spanish, Portuguese, British, Dutch and Japanese countries. They want to take all of Indonesia's natural wealth to bring to their country (to enrich their country). Apart from colonizing them, they also brought in missionaries to impose their religion.
    The Arabs never colonized Indonesia.
Gujarati traders from India who are Muslim came to Indonesia to trade, mingle with Indonesian people and preach.

There was once an attempt to form the Maphilindo state, a union of three countries: Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia (at that time, Singapore and Brunei were still part of Malaysia, and East Timor was still part of Indonesia). This initiative was called the Manila Accord and aimed to establish a federation of 'Nusantara' nations. However, it did not come to fruition due to the betrayal by some high-ranking officials from Malaysia who were under British control. They violated the Manila Accord by proclaiming the Federation of Malaysia without informing the Indonesian and Philippine parties.

Even though the Indonesian people's weapons were very simple, such as hoes, sickles, swords, axes, machetes, daggers, spears and sharpened bamboo... the fighting spirit of the Indonesian people still burned to defend Indonesian territory which was being attacked and wanted to be controlled or seized by foreign nations, such as Spain. , Portuguese, English, Japanese and Dutch.

    Countries that colonized Indonesia:
    1) Portuguese (1505 - 1595)
At first they came to Maluku to trade and look for spices
    2) Spain (1521 - 1692)
Just like the Portuguese, they also came to Maluku to trade and look for spices
In the end the conflict that occurred between the Portuguese and the Spanish in Maluku (Indonesia) resulted in an agreement, that Spain had to leave Maluku and trade in the Philippines while the Portuguese continued to trade in Maluku.
    3) Holland (1602 - 1942)
They also intend to trade and look for spices
    4) France (1806 - 1811)
    5) England (1811 - 1816)
    5) Japan (1942 - 1945)
The Netherlands surrendered unconditionally to the Japanese in Indonesia on March 8, 1942 and since then Japan began to colonize Indonesia for 3 years and 8 months, from 1942 to August 1945.
Japan was the most cruel country when it colonized Indonesia
*** Indonesia has a variety of superior spices such as cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, cloves, pepper and ginger, all of which make Indonesia the largest spice producing and exporting country in the world.

interesting info! The Dutch ruled Indonesia/the archipelago for approximately 350 years/3 and a half centuries, whether it was the VOC or the Dutch themselves or at the time when the Dutch were a French colony, but the interesting thing is that even though it took so long, it actually formed a very large and high level of nationalism in Indonesia and deep hatred. to Dutch colonialism so that Dutch culture, religion and language could not dominate Indonesia and of course there was also a youth oath/declaration before the proclamation of Indonesia in the future. so that the majority of Indonesian culture remains, the majority religion of Indonesia is Islam and of course Indonesian is the official language of Indonesia.

India has the newly-built Parliament building has a mural that shows the map of ancient India. The mural depicts an undivided India (Akhand Bharat) .... Akhand Bharat means ( Undivided India), also known as Akhand Hindustan, is a term for the concept of a unified Greater India. It asserts that modern-day Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Tibet are one nation.❤️💯🇮🇳

In 1512, Alfonso D'albuquerque arrived in the Moluccas, while Antonio de Abreu discovered the island of Timor and reached the Banda, Ambon and Seram Islands. where is it on my ancestral island that spices originate, anciently thousands of years ago my ancestors only sold spices to Arab traders, during the time of the Arabian peninsula controlled by the Ottoman caliphate, the price of spices was very expensive and sold more expensive than gold, 1 gram spices worth 2 grams of gold .. because of the high prices of spices sold by the Turks, at that time many explorers from Europe on large ships explored the world looking for the origin of spices, an Arab navigation guide who gave the location of our islands, so the predators Greedy European infidels came and colonized our nation, if only the Ottoman government did not sell spices at very high prices maybe our country would not have been colonized by Europeans for hundreds of years

If the Netherlands never colonized the Indonesian archipelago, there would be no Republic of Indonesia, but different countries/sultanants with their own languages, traditions and religions. Before the Europeans arrived in the archipelago, the various Indonesian sultanants and tribes were at war with each other. After independence, not all areas such as Aceh, South Moluccas and New Gunea wanted to belong to the new republic of Indonesia. But Sukarno wanted the entire area that encompassed the Dutch East Indies. In principle, Indonesia has continued what the Netherlands did first.
The British soldiers in Surabaya were not English soldiers, but Indians and Nepalese. Most of the European and Australian soldiers were prisoners of war in Burma and were certainly not combat ready.
And one of the reasons why the Netherlands withdrew from Indonesia is coercion by the US. The US threatened to stop the Marshall aid for the Netherlands. The Marshall aid amounts to billions of dollars to rebuild the Netherlands after the war. The strange thing is that the US demanded that all European countries give up their colonies. Many countries became independent in the 1960s. But in the end, the US later had a lot of influence over Asian and African rulers, so the US (CIA) controlled, so to speak, many African and Asian countries without colonizing them.

    And FYI,
at the time after Indonesia proclaimed its independence in 1945 The Dutch carried out military aggression with the help of the British to reclaim Indonesian land which was claimed as Dutch right but the operation failed because the US and the Soviet Union stepped in to mediate the conflict After that the Dutch recognized Indonesian independence in 1949 The Dutch recognized Indonesia's independence in 1949 because if the Dutch recognized it in 1945, indirectly the Dutch also admitted that they had invaded Indonesia and had to pay compensation. But the good news is that the Netherlands has admitted its mistake and recognized Indonesia's independence in 1945 2/3 years ago. and apologized to Indonesia for the invasion they had carried out The Netherlands also said it would pay compensation for the attack periodically for the next 30 years but I don't know the details, sorry
