nuna yobiznass The Advanced trim has front side glass that's different. That's it. The A-Spec has the same windshield as Advanced trim, which cuts down on noise. Yes, the 3D surround system is nice.
It’s a ‘tweener. Honestly, Classifications are mostly useless in 2018. For example, midsize sedans are damn near the size of full size sedans these days. You just need to go to the dealerships and determine if the size and price is right for your needs.
The 2008 RDX has a boost gauge but rarely looked at it. This one in the 2019 RDX is kind of weird like people mentioned in the comments. Red for in boost and purple/blue for vacuum .
Great informative video. I live in AZ and have owned sport coupes, sedans (Mistang GT, IS 350, 328i) and a '17 Forester. Currently I have a '18 Subaru WRX. I am considering again a Forester, Outback XT Onyx or this RDX A-spec. For a daily driver with a Belgian Malinois ( I'm a veterinarian) going to work, getting me camping/hiking/ski/ off-road areas with wife & son, long term reliability, good mileage, practicality which vehicle would you choose.?
I have an RDX 2015. I love it but I'm considering buying the new model for the Tech upgrade. Only thing I'm not sure of is going to the turbo4 from the six cylinder. I love that engine! What are your thoughts?
Any thoughts on advance over A-spec model? Is it worth the extra $$? Specially now on the 2022 mode? I am considering a 2020 advance as i want to trade my 2011 mdx.
It's not just Acura, but yeah, I wonder why reduction in size, cylinders for some brands see almost no fuel economy increases, while others see a nice jump of 3 or 4 mpg from downsizing.
I think you're comparing the base RDX engine with a X3 M40i, not the normal X3... I believe if Acura comes out with a Type-S version of the RDX it will be similar to the X3 M40i in power.
Small turbos are pigs if driven like a larger displacement engine. These are great for posting good epa ratings but real world mileage is almost never the same
edmond kim Advanced package is $4,900, yes. But, I'm not so sure it's worth it considering it doesn't include upgraded wheels. The HUD wasn't that impressive, the keyless hatch opening (by kicking under the bumper) was awkward, and the heated rear seats and wheel weren't necessary for me. The active dampers are a nice touch though.
The only things I car about is the adjustable side bolsters on the seats, adjustable suspension and HUD. I'd be willing to pay a $2500-3000 premium for those 3 things but not $4900
@@titanium7992 I am not one that wants upgraded wheels. Each time you add an inch, you drop ride quality for normal every day driving. Better handling with skinnier sidewalls, sure, but every little bump is felt more than standard wheels. I had that rougher riding card in my youth, I want a nice balance of handling and quality. Also, shorter sidewalls mean being more careful and driving slower on dirt and off-road conditions as well. I DO like those darkened rims and the black grill and trims though, and that adaptive damper option. Sad that both the A-Spec and Advance come up a littler short because you ditch one wanted item to get the other in both models...sigh. That said, I would lean to the 2000 more Advanced SH-AWD version and just be disappointed with the lack of blackened grill/wheels.
Great review Ryan! I wish you'd taken it off road. Do you think the RDX would do as well as the Honda Passport on the same trail and the incline that you tested the Passport? If we put a decent set of higher profile AT tires on the RDX, would you think that it becomes a bonafide off-road crossover? Thanks for the great reviews.
Nasir Mire Most of the low end German cars are rip-offs. Don’t get me wrong, the Germans make nice cars, but you have to add $10,000 in options just to get some basic level things you’d expect in a luxury car.
@@chadhaire1711 This gets much better than that, unless you drive like an idiot in which case they all get that low. BMW does get better MPG, by about 2 mpg, but you pay for that 3 times over in cost of vehicle (anything nice is optional on the BMW, they don't believe in "standard", it's how they gouge idiot buyers).
The adaptive cruise control is on par with other cars in the class. Nothing special to cover. It’s not Level 3 “self driving” autonomy. (Currently only available commercially in Audi A8.)
Why does everyone hate the Lexus system? Once you get used to it it's very intuitive to use. Acura's system on the other hand still requires hand/eye coordination. Even though it's true touch, you still have to look down at the touchpad to correctly select the icons in the middle. No, it's not "light years" better than the Lexus system.

"maneuver the Nimitz"....That was funny! This is a really nice car. Good all around package. Not sure yet if I could get over the learning curve of the touchpad 1 to 1 interface with no option for touchscreen. What do you think about the RDX with the SH-AWD and Techology Package MSRP $42600 vs the Audi Q5 Premium MSRP $42950 as per both their websites? Both are around the same price. Both have AWD. Both have turbo 4's. Same 4 year warranty. Tough call.
It looks stunning. But the fuel consumption is bit on the highside.. You wont get that selling in Europe unless they reduce it to around 30 mpg (combined). Oh and Europeans are more brand conscious..
I have owned the Advanced model since mid August and everything about the vehicle is letter perfect. Absolutely no problems and no complaints. Was probably assembled on a Wednesday!
Emanuele Favuzza hey man food news for you, the Pilot uses same chassis with the current MDX , and the Passport is based on Pilot, basically a frame cutt off in the rear. So It is a Luxury Chassis inside of a new shirt 👕 Tadaaaaaa 😇
The 2019/20 RDX is beautiful, but the one thing stopping me from getting it in 2 months when my current lease is up is the fact that I cant get the surround view camera with the Aspec pkg, even if I'm willing to pay the 5 grand more to get all the packages! Like you said in the video, it's a careless and stupid omission.
I have a question for the owners and those who currently leased this vehicle: i kept reading in the reviews in kbb and edmunds that this car lurches and jerks when it it either shifting gears by skipping gears or as it transfers power from fwd to awd then left to right. I hated that in other cars because it made the front transfer case or the transmission fail in less than 60k miles. Can you folks share your experiences?
I have not experienced this in mine. What I have experienced is all my lights being on when driving!!! Ex. LKS, Adaptive Cruise control, etc. in the shop now getting looked at. Has about 4850 miles on it.
Titanium finally got mine back last week. They replaced the camera at the top of my windshield. This controlled all my safety components for lane keep assist etc. I hope this isn’t for telling of reliability issues.
Personally I have no kids and I’m divorced therefore I don’t want 3 row Midsize 2 row CUV. I had lease 3 straight Lexus RX and it was great. However I didn’t release the Lexus because there mouse sucks. I test drove other CUV 2 rows and I test drove many competitors. I drive mostly on highway and I rather have a V6 over turbo 4. On the highway I discovered the V6 is smoother and it burn similar to turbo 4 or even better. I decided to get Nissan Murano fully loaded. I love that Nissan V6 over any turbo 4 including the X3, Q5 Volvo XC60.
Hi, I would get a Honda CR-V over this no power folding mirrors, no automatic steering adjustment button, no ambient lights cummon until they are fully luxurious I'm not getting this! Even the CR-V has more interior space cummon Honda!! The **interior climate control** is also on the infotainment system for all honda vehicles, unlike Acura. What do u think? Plz answer
I test drove a 2019 and bought a 2018. My 2018 is quieter and the trans was more responsive. Also, I love the V-6. I couldn't figure out why any one wanted black trim all over the car.
While it looks like fun I suspect just about no one buying this car is going to use the steering wheel shifting paddles and will likely never use sport plus plus. I would ditch that stuff (as well as the worse than useless moonroof) to get the dampers and more sound insulation.
Some details provided in the video are not accurate but I'm sure others picked up on that. Like overall cargo volume is no where near 77 usable cubic feet! Acura also notes almost 80 cubic feet. *Max cargo capacity behind front seats. Based on SAE J1100 cargo volume measurement standard, plus floor space between first and second seats and front seats moved forward. This figure compares more accurately with most competitive measurements. It's really around 59 usable cubic feet with the seats folded down. Also, there is no seat bolster adjustments on the A-Spec, only on the Advanced. Finally, that "exhaust note" that you are hearing is electronic through the stereo. Oh yea, what about that stereo! There is no mention of the quality, 14 speakers, wattage etc. It's probably one of the best features on the car, IMO. Overall, it's a decent review, still a bit late compared to many others that have been out for months.
@@chadhaire1711 you keep repeating it, but it doesn't make it so. As I stated, if you drive normally, you will get the EPA. If you drive like a 16 year old boy in his dad's sports car, yeah, you will see low teens for MPG just like any car, BMW, Ford, Kia, no matter.
Gorgeous looks, features and options. However, its my personal belief that it could use a big power boost in terms of a turbo V6. That acceleration to 60mph made me yawn. :(
RB Zee because it's not a race car or even a sports car. It's a 4,000 lbs SUV. The SH-AWD is plenty fast for a SUV. It feels just as quick as the TLX V6 SH-AWD I just parted with. I estimate it hits 60 mph in about 5.8-6.0 seconds. I love speed, but not sure why anyone would look down on that in a SUV.
Tony Chau FWD A-Spec is 3821 lbs. AWD is 4015 lbs. AWD Advanced trim is 4068 lbs. The A-Spec model is the least-weighing trim of the three. This is mostly due to no spare tire, but there has to be other reasons because A-Spec comes with 20 inch wheels and wider tires which should be heavier than stock rims on Advanced and Tech trims. Don't let the weight surprise you. My 2016 TLX SHAWD was around 3,700 lbs and no spare tire either. My MINI Cooper S is 2,550 lbs. Maybe less. Haha.
TMOD Aka The Master of Disaster I respectfully disagree. It is quick for it's size. I'm comparing it to the 2016 TLX SH-AWD I traded in, the 2018 RDX I drove for a few days, and the X3 I drove. 280 TQ and the new transmission really make this RDX SH-AWD seem sporty. Would 330 HP be nice? Absolutely, but this vehicle is by no means underpowered.
@@chadhaire1711 IF you drive like a teenage boy, with jackrabbit starts, lots of quick gas and brake and racing around ONE car just to stomp the brakes for the slow traffic in front of it, yeah, you'll get low teens...as with ANY OTHER VEHICLE sold, you will see below the EPA city rating if you drive like that. Just stop saying this please, we all know EPA city/hwy/combined is based on an "average" driver, not a teenage boy dealing with over-abundance of testosterone and hoping to get noticed.
I don’t know why people keep reviewing the navigation inside cars. 99% of people use their smart phone for navigation. No one in the past four years or more uses their in car navigation system.
Buyer beware. JULY 11, 2019 - An Acura RDX infotainment lawsuit alleges the systems suffer from problems with the radios, backup cameras and the audio and navigation systems. The 2019-2020 RDX SUVs are allegedly a danger to drive because of the distractions caused by the infotainment problems. According to the plaintiffs named in the lawsuit, the infotainment systems were a big reason they purchased the RDX vehicles, and now they wish they wouldn't have purchased the SUVs. One plaintiff claims the RDX infotainment system started causing him problems within days of buying the vehicle. The system allegedly would take up to a minute for the audio to start playing, so he called the dealership and was told everything was normal. The plaintiff also claims voice commands are frequently unavailable and the infotainment system freezes and shuts off while he is driving. According to the plaintiff, the promise of Android Auto was important to him but it's been 10 months since he purchased the RDX and still no software update has been released containing Android Auto. The lawsuit says Acura's previous dual-screen infotainment system was a combination of direct touch, buttons and a dial. But when the third generation Acura RDX was released in 2018, it was equipped with a new single high definition 10.2-inch display controlled by a touchpad. According to the proposed class action lawsuit, Acura knew the systems were defective before any of the RDX SUVs were sold. In addition, the plaintiffs say since the vehicles were sold, drivers have constantly complained about the problems. "This has happened to me multiple times (10 or more). I'm happily cruising along with my CarPlay running waze, Pandora and my radio will just stop working and the display stops showing CarPlay information. Another variation is I'm on the phone connected to CarPlay and I can place and receive calls but half the time no one can hear me speak (I can hear them)." "My vehicle is hardly 6 months old and the infotainment stop working 3 times with 6000+ miles. The dealer mechanic doesn't bother bring the vehicle into the shop, they come out, disconnect the battery for a minute or two then reconnect the battery and the system is back on. Next time that happens, I would ask the service manager to document it." Infotainment systems are known as severe distractions to drivers even when the systems work as intended, but the RDX lawsuit alleges a system that continually malfunctions takes the distractions to a whole new level. Acura has allegedly failed to inform the public about the alleged infotainment systems problems and continues to manufacture, market and sell the SUVs with the defective systems. Furthermore, Honda/Acura has allegedly been unable to find solutions to fix the infotainment systems and dealerships typically tell customers to wait for software updates. In some cases, technicians will replace allegedly defective parts with the same defective parts which leaves drivers in an endless cycle of problems and repairs. According to the lawsuit, Honda and Acura dealers routinely tell RDX customers to refrain from bringing the SUVs to the dealerships because there is no way to repair the infotainment systems. The proposed nationwide class action lawsuit alleges at least 100,000 model year 2019-2020 Acura RDX SUVs are affected by the infotainment systems. The Acura RDX infotainment lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Western Division - Banh, et al., v. American Honda Motor Co. The plaintiffs are represented by Hagens Berman, Goldenberg Schneider, and Niekamp, Weisensell, Mutersbaugh & Mastrantonio. CarComplaints.com has owner-reported complaints about Acura RDX SUVs and many other Acura vehicles.
You’re dead wrong claiming that Kia and Hyundai crossovers are “way louder.” If you look at objective noise measurements Acura and Honda tend to be dead last in a given vehicle category. It’s a ‘tweener. Honestly, Classifications are mostly useless in 2018. For example, midsize sedans are damn near the size of full size sedans these days. You just need to go to the dealerships and determine if the size and price is right for your needs.
Can you take this vehicle to the offroad trails that you do nowadays?
The 2008 RDX has a boost gauge but rarely looked at it. This one in the 2019 RDX is kind of weird like people mentioned in the comments. Red for in boost and purple/blue for vacuum .
Fantastic car. Too bad it's not sold in Europe.
This is beautiful, I can see traces of the newer accord in the rear or is just me ?
Those are design cues coming from the NSX (their flagship super car)
Lobster claws tail lights that many Acura’s and Honda’s have but it does look dam good
Great informative video.

What's wrong with their engine? Why a 2L 270HP 4-pot ends up having same MPG as X3's 3L inline 6 with 355HP?
It's not just Acura, but yeah, I wonder why reduction in size, cylinders for some brands see almost no fuel economy increases, while others see a nice jump of 3 or 4 mpg from downsizing.
I think you're comparing the base RDX engine with a X3 M40i, not the normal X3... I believe if Acura comes out with a Type-S version of the RDX it will be similar to the X3 M40i in power.
Small turbos are pigs if driven like a larger displacement engine. These are great for posting good epa ratings but real world mileage is almost never the same
Oh and the advance pkg is about $2000 more then the A-Spec
edmond kim Advanced package is $4,900, yes.
Ofcrs it can hinda passport is poor man's RDX afterall
Wow this car just makes BMWs X3 seem like a ripoff
Nasir Mire Most of the low end German cars are rip-offs. Don’t get me wrong, the Germans make nice cars, but you have to add $10,000 in options just to get some basic level things you’d expect in a luxury car.
@@panzer_TZ yeah. But if you wanted to get that badge you can get into a X3 for $38K .

Yes it does indeed. Rdx is a much better value for money compared to the X3.
I just bought the Advance and have one question. How can you adjust the zoom level in the navigation screen? It always reverts back to 500 ft.
Great review, though the advance trim is only $1,900 more than the a spec.

I wish you will talk more about the self driving mode and if it’s good or not
The adaptive cruise control is on par with other cars in the class.
No, it's not "light years" better than the Lexus system.
it sucks and so does the gas mileage of 15 mpg

"maneuver the Nimitz"....That was funny! This is a really nice car. Good all around package. Not sure yet if I could get over the learning curve of the touchpad 1 to 1 interface with no option for touchscreen. What do you think about the RDX with the SH-AWD and Techology Package MSRP $42600 vs the Audi Q5 Premium MSRP $42950 as per both their websites? Both are around the same price. Both have AWD. Both have turbo 4's. Same 4 year warranty. Tough call.
Its not that tough of a call, you get bunch of features in RDX for the same price. Audi will keep going up in price range to match those features.
The steering feel on Audi is nimble and the turbo lag is ok in comfort mode compared to RDX but lots of standard features in RDX makes it a bargain.
It looks stunning. But the fuel consumption is bit on the highside.. You wont get that selling in Europe unless they reduce it to around 30 mpg (combined). Oh and Europeans are more brand conscious..
Great review, but one thing I don’t understand is the purple turbo gauge meter? What is that suppose to represent turbo spool?
Ken S at least if the turbo fails you know where to look for
I have owned the Advanced model since mid August and everything about the vehicle is letter perfect. Absolutely no problems and no complaints. Was probably assembled on a Wednesday!
Finally, a mainstream Acura that doesn't suck!!!!
I was wondering if the new Honda Passport is base on the same chassis
Passport is same as Pilot, just shortened rear end. This has nothing in common with the Passport/Pilot. 108" wheelbase RDX vs. 111" Pilot/Passport.
Emanuele Favuzza hey man food news for you, the Pilot uses same chassis with the current MDX , and the Passport is based on Pilot, basically a frame cutt off in the rear. So It is a Luxury Chassis inside of a new shirt 👕 Tadaaaaaa 😇
The RDX looks great and sounds okay
The 2019/20 RDX is beautiful, but the one thing stopping me from getting it in 2 months when my current lease is up is the fact that I cant get the surround view camera with the Aspec pkg, even if I'm willing to pay the 5 grand more to get all the packages! Like you said in the video, it's a careless and stupid omission.
Yes, making the ASpec just paint and wheels is completely stupid.
I haven't experienced it but I have 330 miles. I'll update if the issue arises.
Titanium yes keep me update. I’ll respond with there resolution when I hear!!!!
Titanium finally got mine back last week. They replaced the camera at the top of my windshield. This controlled all my safety components for lane keep assist etc. I hope this isn’t for telling of reliability issues.

I Really like the RDX but the Fuel economy is just ok comparing to Subaru and RAV4 and CR-V

Adaptive dampers in the Advance are tempting, but I like the looks of the A-Spec better. That help at all?
@@drivingsports that's the problem. I like the red interior of the A-spec and i would like have more function on the Advance.

I quess you didn't test drive the new RDX.

While it looks like fun I suspect just about no one buying this car is going to use the steering wheel shifting paddles and will likely never use sport plus plus. I would ditch that stuff (as well as the worse than useless moonroof) to get the dampers and more sound insulation.
An 8-speed and a touch-screen infotainment away from perfection.
Wayy too many gears; the infotainment will be a deal-breaker for many.

It's like the Mazda CX-5. Fun to drive without race car speed.
@@titanium7992 this thing is 4000lb?
Maybe less. Haha.

Another variation is I'm on the phone connected to CarPlay and I can place and receive calls but half the time no one can hear me speak (I can hear them)."
"My vehicle is hardly 6 months old and the infotainment stop working 3 times with 6000+ miles. The dealer mechanic doesn't bother bring the vehicle into the shop, they come out, disconnect the battery for a minute or two then reconnect the battery and the system is back on. Next time that happens, I would ask the service manager to document it."
Infotainment systems are known as severe distractions to drivers even when the systems work as intended, but the RDX lawsuit alleges a system that continually malfunctions takes the distractions to a whole new level.
