Maybe a GoPro type of camera on your head/hat/camera for video?
@@Twobarpsi I've got s few clips like that I've got to put into some videos. Unfortunately sometimes its frowned upon to show game footage of professional games. So it won't be of those games.

I was a team photographer for the Senators/Getty for years, some of the best hockey I’ve shot, met a lot of good people too.

Very entertaining! The thing that surprised me most when I started shooting sports (high school) is how demanding it can be. I don't edit and upload on site and I'm not a pro, but I do collaborate with a journalist now and I do send pictures. It can be physically demanding depending on the sport and setup, but it also takes tremendous concentration! I know how spent I feel after a football game (2 camera setup, with a 12 pound 400 2.8) because I'm constantly moving and concentrating. It can be hard work! Kudos for being able to do what you did at the game and pay attention to the vlog!
Thanks for watching and commenting! It can be grueling. Like you said running around with all the gear and keeping you concentration is hard. It was tough to find the time to film and work. Edited out a lot of "down" time when I'm really focused on the game.
Love that kind of content, that's exactly what I'm looking for when I'm looking for sports photography on youtube.

Have you ever used any assisted strobes rigged in the rafters? I am super super curious about that and it's hard to find any information. 🤔
Thanks! I haven't used them. Normally reserved for the team photographers. But I know you need some good lights with fast flash duration.
@@Paul_Rutherford that makes sense. I wonder how much of a difference it makes
@@huser56 I'd say they improve the look of the images and you can do more interesting images with them if you change where they are placed and their respective powers. I've seen really cool images with the background very dark or cool shadows displayed when shooting from above. But the recycle time on them means you really have to time the images well because you can only shoot about once a second.
That's a good point. It's a toss up because the recycle time is slow because you most likely need to turn the power up pretty high. And still need to use high speed sync to freeze the action, Interesting.
I'm curious if your Shutter speed needs to be faster with hockey compared to Basketball ? I know you've covered that before in one of your videos.
@@huser56 Actually with those stadium lights the flash duration is really quick and it is whats freezing the action. You are basically lighting the entire playing surface and not using any ambient light. So no need for high speed sync. I think i tend to shoot a little faster for hockey. But it really depends on the gym/rink. If I can shoot 1/2000 that is what I want to stick with, but that rarely happens with non-pro gyms.

how did you get a job with the nhl for photography? and if you don't mind sharing, how much do you make? just an estimate or something works
I freelance for Imagn Images and Getty Images. I explain how to get the credentials in a different video about getting credentials that will be more helpful than a text explanation. The pay isn't amazing per game, as I get more to do high school sports. I don't know about a staff person though.
I would LOVE to know what that is attached to your laptop and how you get it to stick like that??
Haha. I used velcro to attach my card readers to the back of the computer. Easier to have them stuck there then hanging off the side when on an assignment like this. Or sitting on the couch editing.
What are you shooting with and why?
I shoot with Canon. 1Dx mark ii and an R5 for hockey. Happened to start with Canon a long time ago and haven't felt the need to switch. I believe any company now makes great gear that will be perfect for 95% of users.
Just wondering how you transferred you're images so quickly
Practice! I tag the photos during stoppages in plays so I only upload the selects instead of having to sort through 2000 images. Not doing much editing and once I edit one it is essentially cropping and pasting settings from the previous images. Before the game I prepare a code replacement so I can caption quickly. Only sending about 10 images at a time so it isn't much. Hope that helps!
