The Fiat 2300S Coupe Is Suspended in Time

  • There might be no better way of describing the owning of a vintage car than as an island in an ocean of technology. For Pierantonio Micciarelli of Milan, Italy, this island comes in the form of a Fiat 2300 S Coupe. With so many rules and regulations to owning a vintage car in Italy, owning a car like this isn't just a means of transportation but a dedication to style, craftsmanship, and commitment. In a world of technology, this leaves Pierantonio, and many of us who choose the vintage car lifestyle, suspended in time.

a little island inside the ocean of technology and modernity... that's so cool.
I kind of have same feeling when I'm in my old BMW. Respect to Mr. Micciarelli and all Italian cars. From S. Korea.

I love his passion for the design, all the little elements that make the car such a beauty. It's so easy to get hung up on the power, skidpad numbers, and 0-60 times, and in doing so, overlook the soul, the ethos of a really special car. May you enjoy your 2300S Time Machine for many, many years, Pierantonio.

FIAT, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Maserati, Ferrari, Lamborghini - they all built masterpieces in the 60's and 70's, and Porsche, BMW and Mercedes, Jaguar and Aston Martin, too. But the Italian designers were able to make dream cars out of vehicles that were "everyday" cars, which were accessible and affordable for Joe Public.

    Hi Dario,
I had a Gulia GT junior 1.3 when I was 20.... I used to steal it from my mother... A gift from my dad. A beautiful, little thunder... Alfa electric blue, with wooden radica Nardi stearing wheels... A friend of mine working on the Monza circuit, used to let me drive on the race track and I was supercrazy about that. I'll never forget the sound of the engine and the perfection of the gearbox... What a car...
    Enjoy your jewel.

And I thought the UK was bad for driving with the fuel prices and tax. Classic cars effectively banned from the cities, and this from a country that is one of the automotive temples. This man has a real American Dream. Maybe the money saved on gas in the States compared to all those miles in Italy would pay for the cost of the shipping! My first comment on your channel, although I'm working my way through all the videos. Absolutely love the way you produce them, having the owners tell the stories and the pleasure they get from their cars. Nice variety of cars too.

    • @maltfusion6743
      @maltfusion6743 10 лет назад

Hmm tiny car, basically no engine, beautiful design with intricate details so how is this car the American Dream? I always welcome people to the wonderful world of italian classics but I just fail to see the connection with american cars which weigh 5000 pounds, have waterbed suspension, interiors are made from cheapest plastic and the 'small block' is 289ci/4.7 liters?

Maltfusion Did you watch the video to the end? The owner talked about his dream of shipping the car to the States and driving there. That's what I meant :) As for American cars, many are guilty of what you describe, but there were some bright spots. They were also designed for their environment. Domestic demand isn't sufficient for interiors as good as the Europeans or suspension as sophisticated, because that increases cost. American car makers demonstrated in some of their concept cars, Cadillac Sixteen is just one example of their capabilities, but the demand has to be there to make production viable. Away from consumer cars, the Corvette enjoyed dominance at Le Mans over the 911s and Ferraris the last 10-15 years or so. The capability was always there. The original Mustang was so popular because it was accessible to ordinary people. An equivalent European car would probably have left it behind once the road became twisty, but these people didn't care. They could obtain a car that was fun, looked great, sounded exciting and allowed them to have something that made them feel special instead of settling for the standard Chevy Nova, or a Plymouth, or whatever else their parents drove. Ford could have made it more sophisticated, but that wasn't the demand of the American consumer. Suspension is also not as important in the States where there are not as many narrow, winding roads as we are accustomed to in Europe. Several tuner firms will fix that for the demanding customer, though. The last 10 years has seen American cars progress significantly to the point where they aren't quite at Europe's best, but making a choice between the two doesn't mean choosing a greatly inferior product. The Japanese and then Koreans gave them the kick up the ass to improve their product, that had survived through a mixture of patriotism and cheap gas prices. Latest engines in Ford's cars, and the Corvette and Camaro's suspension, have been widely acclaimed by European journalists as a big step forward. I personally have a great respect for cars from many different countries and enjoy examining how they are different products of different environments. I just love the variety of muscle cars, naturally aspirated screaming Japanese sports cars and roadsters, turbocharged British hot hatchbacks. Actually, if you go back to American car makers such as Auburn and Dusenberg that were victims of the Depression and the collapse in demand for luxury cars, they made some sophisticated and very nicely finished cars. Unfortunately no maker filled their void after things picked up. The top end Cadillacs and Lincolns were OK, but the Auburn Cord and the Dusenbergs were glorious cars.

Muscle cars are awesome and there are fine luxury cars from US from 30's to late 50's but the claim about the Corvette dominance over 911 in Le Mans is complete nonsense. As far as I know Corvette has one victory over 911 in 2011 and 911 has gazillion class victories and one overall victory in 1979 with the insane 935K3.

There is a small error though, as Ghia was an Italian (established in Turin in 1906) coach-builder, Carrozzeria Ghia.

Even if I'm Italian, I prefer to drive with gloves a nice old car and ignoring who designed it, rather than being an expert like you. From engine characteristics the Fiat 2300 Inline 6 is very close to the japanese
Toyota 2000 GT DOHC Yamaha engine!
The Fiat is a HEMI OHV but with v shaped hanging valves and very light Abarth type rocker arms and ultra light pushrods, so this small inline 6 revvs more than the japanese DOHC small inline 6 than compared to a Mercedes Heavy 230 inline 6!

I wish some day to have a car that demands to be dressed like that to drive it :)

I live in Milan, i've got classic cars and bikes and I have to say that what Mr. Micciarelli says is not properly true: yes we have those regulations but they are not applicable to classic/ historic relevant cars, they can be applied only to less than 20yo veichles that comply to old emission standards.

2.59 ~ 3.34 ... if more people had treated beautiful cars like this there may be twice as many on the road today

Can Petrolicious help make this happen .. Getting this car to the states. The number of people that would fund this. To have the opportunity to see the car at different cities! And to follow it also via this channel for the rest of us.
