The thing about snow in Germany: Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg have the Alps, which mostly shield them from the warmer southern air streams and simultaneously catch all the rising humidity which then forms clouds and thus it snows there a lot. to clarify on the "weed in bavaria" meme. bavaria has the harshest punishments for weed (or any drug besides alcohol and tobacco), while places like berlin it's like a slap on the wrist and it being taken away (if it's a sensible personal use amount) while in bavaria you can go to jail just for some crumbs, being tested positive for marijuana and sometimes even just having paraphernalia.
10. Bochum, song by Herbert Grönemeyer about that town in the east of the Ruhrgebiet in the west of germany. You have to know about the time line it is about, cole mines, steel produktion and the coming end to it. The Ruhrgebiet has it's own charm
Regensburg: name derived from the Latin name Castra Regina (King's Castle) for the settlement when the Romans built a stronghold there, previously there was a Celtic settlement. Has nothing to do with 'rain'.
Most of them are correct :D Some details on some of the memes: Saarland is the German Alabama in terms of joking about siblings liking each others too much. Abitur is the highest education degree you can get from schools and allows studying at universities. The difficulty varies depending on the state you live in and Bavaria is known for the hardest Abitur in Germany. Frankfurt am Main is German Wall Street or German New York City (because of the few skyscrapers which are generally super rare in Germany) while Frankfurt an der Oder is a small town near the Polish border. The get confused a lot which is why they contain the nearby rivers as a clarification. Sachsen is German Florida in terms of politics. Bavaria is known for its conservative and pedantic population and politics. Its very clerical but got the most financial power across all states in Germany which is one of the reasons they feel imperior to other states especially to the former eastern part. They love to get drunk but faint when they see someone with a funny cigarette.
Its true, we don't get that much snow as southern germany here in the north, the temperatures in summer are also lower then in the south. The reason for that are the oceans which kinda work like a heater in the winter and a freezer in the summer.
Sachsen = [saksn], similar to English "saxon". Note that German "-chs" is almost always "ks" or "x" (Fuchs, sechs, Ochse, Lachs, Büchse). Only when ch and s meet from two different words, they are pronounced like ch and s separately (Lachsack, Buchstabe, Kochsendung).
@@That_guy-s2l no. Most things have already been explained by other comments, only one thing to add: „Bubatz“ is another colloquial word for weed. ( 6:55 ) And I live in Munich… the rent prices really are horribly high.
As for the alcohol thing: I'm running a small cinema in a small town in rural Saxony-Anhalt. Some time ago, a terrible car accident happened where a young man was killed, and alcohol was involved. The mom of one of the other persons in the car rented our cinema for the young folks to come together after the burial, she had edited a video with pictures of the deceased and their friends - as people do, so far so good. BUT: the first picture showed the deceased boy with his mates in a car all of them had bottles in their hands, and so it went on, and guess what: those kids had nothing to do but chugging away beer and Cuba Libres to see their friend off who died as roadkill because of DUI. That's how things go here.
Years ago I was at a funeral service for a colleague of mine who had severe drug and alcohol problems and sadly ended his life with it. His friends from his favorite pub were also there and got totally blasted at the funeral party. Somehow I know that's how my colleague would have liked it but I couldn't really unsee the irony of it all.
Well I'm from Bonn - near Cologne. Absolutly true what they say about the avarage guy in cologne and we are proud of it. (in reallity of course it is not true but cologne is a hotspot for the LGBTQ community in Germany. A survey from 2019 found 10% of the city population are LGBTQ which is over the german average of 6.9% and that most cologne people are positive about this. This also shows in cologne culture on many occasions like first and foremost on the carnival but also CSD-Parade, in living a colorful-lifestyle and in the saying "Jede Jeck is anders".

Cannabis legalization was approved yesterday in the Bundestag and now has to be confirmed by the Bundesrat, the second chamber of legislature, as well so that cannabis can be legalized from April on here in Germany. It then will be generally legal to possess cannabis from the age of 18 (the consumption itself was never illegal anyway, but the legal argument has often been that you can only consume cannabis if you are in possession of it). You also would be allowed then to carry 25 grams of cannabis in public and grow 3 of your own plants at home.

Sachsen is pronounced like "Sacksen" with emphasis on "Sack". 😜 (Joke aside, say it like "Saxson".) ... And Sachsen is a bit known to be right winged lately. They were left winged before that. It's one of our "new" federal states struggling to feel representated after reunion. Not to exuse the shift, I'm against AfD and right wing ideology. But things don't come out of thin air and IMHO it should be adressed to allow a shift again. (And of course not everyone thinks like that there, but we only ever hear the loud ones.)

Weed is currently illegal in Germany (but it's about to be legalized in some time soon according to the government) The Bavarian State Police ist Well known for overreacting/using drastic measures when there is suspected Weed use, while in States like Berlin you'd get a fine at max (or the police won't even care at all) Also, the Bavarian Prime Minister said something about how Weed shouldn't be Legal because of Drug Tourism, while the main Tourist attraction in Bavaria is literally a festival about drinikng ungodly amounts of alcohol
Northern Germany is lower elevated and has a sea climate, so snow is a rare thing there, while the South is higher elevated and has the mountains near, so snow happens way more often
Consuming weed (or called Bubatz as a joke) in Germany is legal, while possession, buying, selling, accepting (for free) and giving (for free) is illegal. It's kind of weird. Currently we have a limit, varying from state to state, on how much you can have with you you without being prosecuted, but it is still up to the individual police officer if they file a case or not. In Berlin the limit is 15 grams, but I once was caught with half a joint (the other half was consumed already) and the police stopped me, searched me, filed a case and afterwards the case was settled by giving me a pamphlet about how Cannabis can ruin your life and with numbers and addresses to where to get help. All for just 0.4 grams (yes, they weighted it haha) But at the moment our federal politicians are trying to legalize it. If everything goes through, April 1st will be the day weed will be legalized in Germany.
Hey, I'm from Germany and I really enjoy your videos. Maybe you could do a collaboration with a german youtuber at some time who would explain the memes you don't understand.
Servus! German here, born&raised in Bavaria, currently living in NRW (near Cologne and Aachen) And I can say snow is pretty rare nowadays, used to snow a lot more in the south too but these years all you get is one weird phase at the beginning of the year where it gets cold as fuck. It’s much more mild in the north but that’s because the elevation is higher in the south.
5:54 just a few days ago the last voting was held. Consumption will be legal for all of Germany starting on the first of april. In Bavaria the fines were generally the highest, because the CSU was a very strong political party there and they strongly opposed the legalisation. However they lost a lot of their voters in recent years because of corruption scandals and general unhappiness in the population, so they are not included in the current government, which is why the legalisation was possible.
3:11 Thats not a Brandenburger moving to Berlin, that happens in way too cramped trains. Thats just a regular moment when you try to find your mobile internet. You realize you gotta be mobile yourself.
Laws are currently changing to legalisation of weed, but in the past the consumption was decriminalised- however possession and buying obviously weren’t and there were other things like how much you were allowed to have on you and not get shit for it
This video hinted alot at videos many germans know and put them into context with common stereotypes for different regions. Some of the clips are definitly worth watching. The antivaxxer woman for example is from a documentation from SPIEGEL TV on youtube about the antivaxxer/esoterik/right szene during covid.
The one with Bavarian state police and weed is true and mostly politically motivated. There was a news article a few months ago that uncovered that one of the governing parties promised a local police chief a modernized station in exchange for speaking out against the legalization. Also, they need it for themselves. Check out the "SOKO Nightlife" case from Munich.
Norther germans like me are know to be cold. And a typical greeting is "Moin" or "Moin moin". I think that's what the joke is about. ... But we are not cold. We are stoic and go to the basement to laugh. Edit: And yes, I like call it here little england. It's always raining and gray. Especially on christmas. Snow is rare. But when the sun shines, oh boy. I immediately fall in love again and forget all weather depressions.
Grew up on the bank of the river Ruhr, moved to Münster, then to Bonn, then back to Münster. I remember seeing enough snow to build a snowman and all that from my childhood but at least since I moved away (and it feels like more so over time), snow days have been few and far between. Especially for my 4-5 years in Bonn, I only saw a bit of sludge for a couple days total. There was that freak blizzard a couple years back when people were skiing on the streets in Münster but the exact same happened in Madrid, so that isn't saying much. The reason that there is more snow in the South is the higher elevation closer to the Alps. There is also more snow in the East bc it's further inland, which causes more extreme temperature differences (to a degree). For example, there was snow in Berlin when our current government came into office. Meanwhile in Bonn, there was no snow and while it was cold, you could still walk to a nearby shop in a t-shirt if it wasn't too far. Think maybe a couple degrees centigrade.
I'm so tired of seeing "funny memes" calling all East German citizens Nazis. I know it's supposed to be funny, but when people from other countries see something like that and maybe even believe it, it's not so funny anymore. Please don't tell me these memes are from some stupid sub-Reddits like "Ich iel". Sorry for the rant.
The Rundfunkbeitrag is like a tax for public radio and television (and some youtube channels). *But*. it's not a tax, it's a bill you get from a company, which used to be known as GEZ. They are notorious for overbilling, adding massive fees for missed payments, and especially, tracking people down who are trying to avoid paying. They can just get your contact info from registration offices, and they are typically the first ones to know when you're moving. Historically, they would knock on your door and check if you had a TV or a radio, at least they don't do that anymore. You don't mess with the GEZ. Also, definitely try Mettbrötchen. first step to german citizenship.
Bavaria is literally german texas. Its the exact same dynamic, including constantly threatening to secede and never actually making any moves towards it.
The reaction and overall mentality concerning weed highly depends on the area. The government isn't particularly fond of it anywhere, though it is being legalized after public pressure, but the people often don't have a problem with it. Living close to Berlin, I certainly can't say it seems taboo there. I've had someone yell across the street that we could buy from them on one occasion and I know a lot of people who smoke weed personally. Culturally, especially among young people, it's not that big of a deal.
The thing with Brandenburger moving to Berlin actually depends on the age of people. When their young, in their twenties, everyone wants to go to Berlin to study and party. Not only Brandenburger. But when getting older, having a family and small kids, many move from Berlin to Brandenburg, because no one wants to raise a kid in a big city. They searching for the nature and peace of Brandenburg 🌳🌳🚣 🌳🌳, where kids can play on the street where you don't have to worried about violence and drugs on schools.( I guess, it happens here too, but not that often.) 🌳
4:50 Two snowflakes meet over Munich. One says: "Let's have a little fun and shut down the rail traffic". The other answers: "Don't worry, I can do that alone. You take care of the airport".
So awesome you are planning to come, but are you sure ,you just wanna come for the Mettbrötchen? Not our customer service desert or our famous German rudeness?! That's cutting deep. 😂
5:55 it's decriminalised in the way that you can smoke it. The dumb part is you are not allowed to posses it. So technically if you can smoke it without possessing it you are good to go. If you are posses it to when smoking you have a problem. (spoiler you are) Until some years ago you could be arrested for any amount even if you are holding it in you hand while smoking. Now you are allowed to posses enough to make a joint. (0.5g) I think people got in trouble because they found crumbs/debris of it in carpet, collected it all and it was enough to get them charged with possession. Also you are not allowed to drive and it's considered a DUI if you have any THC in you blood. Going so far as the theoretical part of the drivers license has a question about this. Where they consider it unsafe to drive if you consumed any cannabis/marijuana in the time of 1 month. (since technically THC can remain in the body for that long)
Northern Germany has less snow because it's closer to the ocean. That means the summers aren't as warm and the winters aren't as cold. The southern climate is more continental.
Sachsen / Saxony was completly screwed over by the reunification. basicly every company left for the west, so mass unemploymanet happened so since then to now about 3/4 of the population left, leaving behind broken and empty villages and parts of cities, a very poor elderly population and nothing to do. Its the poorest and most boring area of germany. Saxony used to be one of the most left wing states and did a complete 180 when the system screwed them over
It gets even worse: Erzgebirge!!! Somehow, the AfD party found a climate there to grow like mold or puss, infecting the whole area. The big cities Dresden and Leipzig are ok, but there's always Aue, Schwarzenberg, Stollberg, Crandorf... places that have been so screwed over by the reunification, that the remaining faex populi there is the ultimate substrate for right-wing populist ideas.
Actually Weed is about to get decriminalized in this week (at least they say so...) and this will get in affect on the 1st of April But there are still doubts that it will really happen, they were postponing for a long time. Right now it's illegal, some Police care about it, some don't and if you only have a few grams for personal use some DAs wont process, but some will (at least in Bavaria) So you are not safe at all when having weed with you.
In the last 30 years the winter climate changed quite heavily here so the winter/snow meme is not really that correct anymore. But basically the southern parts are way higher altitude and therefore colder. But in recent years the south has been extremely warm and you'd only really get snow in the foothills of the alps. And the north is often under the influence of cold artic/russian winds from the east while the south often still get's the warmer influence from the atlantic.
story time: when we were in cologne for our guild meeting, we had trouble finding our hotel at 3 am, so we stopped to ask for the way , two dudes were really helpful but when they walked away from the car we noticed that one of them only had assless chaps on, nothing under it, bright cheeks shining late at night.
Sachsen (pronounced like zuxan, in english called Saxony) and Thüringen (Thuringia) are pretty much the most right-leaning states in germany, they are where the at best right-populist, at worst fascist party AfD is most successfull. Interestingly though, the party "Die Linke" (literally "the left") is the strongest party in Thuringia despite barely having any success in any other state. The frankfurt one is easily explained, there's two cities named Frankfurt, and when people want to specify which one they mean they add the river the city is next to, so there's Frankfurt am Main, and there's Frankfurt an der Oder. If you were to buy a plane ticket to Frankfurt, you'd end up in Frankfurt (Main), which is both larger and more well known than Frankfurt (oder). When a person from Frankfurt (Oder) says they are from frankfurt, almost everyone assumes they mean the other one, which I imagine must be pretty hard.
Don't mix up the letter combination 'sch', which is pronounced like you try to do, and 'chs' like in Sachsen, which makes it sound like 'ks'. In this case it's similar to the english pronounciation of saxon, just change the o to an e 😉
Sachsen or in english Saxony is historically the region with the poeple most loyal to the state and being mostly rural known to have many right wing people. in the 90s after the reunification and the last years again, Saxony is one of if not the state with the highest votes for right wing parties. I think you have seen one of those Pegida marches in another video as well, that is also a saxony thing. Obviously not everyone from Saxony is like that but know how it is. And to the point of weed, from April 1st weed will be legal to own and consume in germany but I also know people from Bavaria or Munich specifically that got stopped by the police just because they looked like they would smoke weed. Everything I have ever heard or read about Bavarian police is absolutely awful but of course again like most media there is a heavy negativity bias so you should take that with a grain of salt. The thing about the youth trying to leave eastern germany is because still 35 years after the reunification there is still a gab in income, infrastructure and such. Wohnungsbesichtigung in Berlin means apartment viewing according to google translate, it is when you check out an apartment before renting and there is way too few of those here especially in Berlin. The Heute Show had a segment on that last year that we have several hundred thousand apartments less than we would need, Maybe check that if you find it. And the drinking thing, well there is just nothing to do in rural areas so you start drinking early
Nord Germany is really flat there for warmer therefor less snow. Badem Württemberg and baveriya is at least 500m higher in average. And farther south the alps begin therefore its colder

to clarify on the "weed in bavaria" meme. bavaria has the harshest punishments for weed (or any drug besides alcohol and tobacco), while places like berlin it's like a slap on the wrist and it being taken away (if it's a sensible personal use amount) while in bavaria you can go to jail just for some crumbs, being tested positive for marijuana and sometimes even just having paraphernalia.

Saarland is the German Alabama in terms of joking about siblings liking each others too much.
Also there are mountains in the south. The higher you go, the colder it usually gets.
Sachsen is the german Pronoceiation of the State of Saxony

"Wohnungsbesichtigung" is seeing a flat that has been put out for rent, and Bubatz is a metonymy for weed.
Most things have already been explained by other comments, only one thing to add:
„Bubatz“ is another colloquial word for weed. ( 6:55 )
And I live in Munich… the rent prices really are horribly high.
Where you been? Good to see you again.
Surprisingly accurate considering the usual standards for videos like that

Weed is currently illegal in Germany (but it's about to be legalized in some time soon according to the government) The Bavarian State Police ist Well known for overreacting/using drastic measures when there is suspected Weed use, while in States like Berlin you'd get a fine at max (or the police won't even care at all)
Also, the Bavarian Prime Minister said something about how Weed shouldn't be Legal because of Drug Tourism, while the main Tourist attraction in Bavaria is literally a festival about drinikng ungodly amounts of alcohol
good to have you back
Northern Germany is lower elevated and has a sea climate, so snow is a rare thing there, while the South is higher elevated and has the mountains near, so snow happens way more often
All for just 0.4 grams (yes, they weighted it haha)
But at the moment our federal politicians are trying to legalize it. If everything goes through, April 1st will be the day weed will be legalized in Germany.

And I can say snow is pretty rare nowadays, used to snow a lot more in the south too but these years all you get is one weird phase at the beginning of the year where it gets cold as fuck. It’s much more mild in the north but that’s because the elevation is higher in the south.

About the legality of Cannabis. The Bundestag will vote for a legalization on Friday. (homegrowing and cannabis social clubs)

"Why German Sounds So Aggressive"
Coming to germany mainly for Mett. Youre already german in mind pal :D haha

Did I miss the Sachsen-Anhalt part, or are we being generalized with Sachsen again?
Sachsen-what? Yeah, nobody will ever know about you. ;P

Bubatz Legalization is about weed legalization, bubatz being a slang word for joint
You have to try Mett Brötchen with onions! It´s amazing and I eat it all the time. Love it.
Culturally, especially among young people, it's not that big of a deal.
i live in northern germany (right by the baltic sea) and yeah, we maybe get good and deep snow every 3-4 years :(
Hi, Mert! How do you know I`m from Sachsen? Here is my answer: you HEAR it!!!
Very strong and very cringe but funny dialekt! Unmistakable! 😂
If you try Mett... make sure to film it. Not that i like to watch people throwing up, but...

Sachsen is the german word for Saxony. Aa a communist saxon, I can confirm the meme😂
5:55 it's decriminalised in the way that you can smoke it.
The dumb part is you are not allowed to posses it.
So technically if you can smoke it without possessing it you are good to go.
If you are posses it to when smoking you have a problem. (spoiler you are)
Until some years ago you could be arrested for any amount even if
you are holding it in you hand while smoking. Now you are allowed to posses enough to make a joint. (0.5g)
I think people got in trouble because they found crumbs/debris of it in carpet, collected it all
and it was enough to get them charged with possession.
Also you are not allowed to drive and it's considered a DUI if you have any THC in you blood.
Going so far as the theoretical part of the drivers license has a question about this.
Where they consider it unsafe to drive if you consumed any cannabis/marijuana in the time of 1 month. (since technically THC can remain in the body for that long)
melonpan is a cultural icon, it was the last clip from the video.
Sachsen = Saxony
Maker of the video apparently didn't bother with proper translations for the specific regions within Germany.
9:08 THE AMORITES, WHO DO NOT LIVE IN HOUSES, WHO EAT RAW MEAT, WHO DO NOT BURY THEIR DEAD
Sachsen = Saxony, Federal State in the eastern part of Germany
The south has more snow because it has higher mountains and is further away from the sea.
Geh nach Frankfurt und frag nach dem Zauberkraut oder den Premium-Impfungen
If you try Mett, please only REAL fresh one! Go to a local butcher to buy it, not to a supermarket..
As someone who has moved thru half of Germany, majority of these are accurate 😂
story time: when we were in cologne for our guild meeting, we had trouble finding our hotel at 3 am, so we stopped to ask for the way , two dudes were really helpful but when they walked away from the car we noticed that one of them only had assless chaps on, nothing under it, bright cheeks shining late at night.
Rangers are a great team!
I enjoyed watching them getting beat by Frankfurt.
Where do you think Sassenach comes from?🤔
Bubatz = Weed

Don't mix up the letter combination 'sch', which is pronounced like you try to do, and 'chs' like in Sachsen, which makes it sound like 'ks'. In this case it's similar to the english pronounciation of saxon, just change the o to an e 😉
„Sachsen“ means Saxony basically.
