    Enjoyed your video & especially the sound effects from you - lol.
    I've done what you are doing, as I have a Dagger Exodus with KayakSailor sail & genoa. It's hairy when the wind gets up & tries to blow you over from the side; lean into the wind, lean, lean more, more, bloody hell! Lol.
    I cheat these days as I've made two outriggers to use on really windy days kayaking in the North Sea. Going for a kayak sail tomorrow. Regards, JohnnyK from the UK.

      Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the comment! It's a lot of fun sailing a small kayak as you know. Enjoy yourself out there!

    I did that and flipped the kayak even with the side floaters . A strong gust of wind caught me by surprise and I didn’t let go of the sheet and tipped me over like a piece of paper . Learned my lesson and I’m now more cautious and realize that a strong wind can topple you over very easily if your are not careful.

      During high wind, He should open only half sail to prevent surprise gust wind can flip the kayak.
      It is too risky with full sail open like that

      did you break the mast when you flip over? I've been wondering how well these fiberglass rod handle the stress of a flip and roll.

    Also when are they going to make a larger rudder? It has to be simple for them to make a slide on adapted rudder. It simply slides over the stock rudder. Make it quick

    So entertaining! I’ve been sailing a Hobie 16 for over 20 years and miss it so much 😞 I just got a 2007 Hobie Mirage Outrigger bare. So now I have to build it up and OF COURSE, the first thing will be a sailing kit with a furler. You can’t fly a hull on this but watching you gave me a whole new realm of excitement. Any tips on adjusting mine from a double kayak sailing it solo?

    • @joshnicolet524
      @joshnicolet524  3 года назад

      Thanks Naomi! I don't know much about your 2007 model so I'm afraid I don't have any tips to share. With the sailing experience you already have I think you'll do great finding a way to make everything work. Sailing a kayak is slower than a purpose-built sail boat but it brings along its own element of fun with it. Best of luck and enjoy your time out there!

    Hey Josh how did the Furler Kit work for you, any input?

    • @joshnicolet524
      @joshnicolet524  3 года назад +1

      I highly recommend it. I think Hobie did a great job with their kit and I have no reason to switch to anything else. I had thought about trying my first season without the furler kit but I'm glad I got it right away. I followed Hobie's installation video very carefully and I had no problems when using it last season.

    What is the difference between the outback and the passport?

    What is the difference betwee the outback and the passport? Do you think the outriggers are a good idea?

    • @joshnicolet524
      @joshnicolet524  3 года назад +1

      I don't know much about the passport. I'm sure there are some good reviews out there that cover the differences though.
      As far as outriggers are concerned, I decided to try out the sail kit without them and then add them later if I felt I needed them.
      At this point, I won't be getting them as I feel I already have enough stability for the conditions I'll be in. I think this comes down to personal preference as some people might feel more comfortable with the outriggers.

      @@inikolov not sure I understand? The furler device will make a huge difference and make it much easier to sail. You can make one for about $4 out of PVC. I loved sailing my Outback and soon after had no choice but to step up to an AI. It’s addicting!!

      Here’s one with instructions. Main thing is a furling device and then having the sail line come back at you so that you can control the tension.
