When I first saw this , honestly I was thinking not the old school 351w,c,m . I was more in tune doing 5.8 Trinity out of the 2013-14 GT500's . Into a new edge platform, and why not ? That's where I would be the 5.8 Trinity build swap.
I run long tubes on my 95, get the right ones and they fit no issues at all... just checking this out because I’m getting ready to swap the 302 for a 1970 boss 302 👍. Nice ride bro 👊
I have a 2003 V6 Mustang, and have been wanting to do a swap like this for a while. Mainly because I want a CARBURETED V8 engine with NO computer parts. I have done a lot of engine swaps in older cars and built several hot rods and drag race cars. I also want to find a way to install older style wheels with the standard Ford 5x4.5 lug pattern, so I can use 14"/15" wheels suitable for RWL BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires.
I have a 2v pushing about 450 whp (upgraded/machined vortech, heads, cams, intake, intercooler, long tubes, etc ... just about every supporting mod you can think of). I'm honestly considering starting to hunt through yards for some of these parts (the K-Member, Bell Housing, Trans, a Motor to Rebuild, etc.) because when my existing motor goes, I think I want to go in this direction (for the love of the low end torque and sound. Check out our wilwood hand brake install video on the mustang. In that video you can see my gauge setup. The first option is doing electrical sensors and gauges. Analog gauges are also an option. If you go with an EFI setup. You will end up getting a dash/screen to match the engine management computer. The screen will show all of the gauges
M-6675-DRS351, this is the ford racing part number. This is a 7qt rear sump oil pan. You can also get a front sump oil pan however, you need a rear sump oil pan for a mustang
I did not use a stock gauge cluster, so I don't know exactly how to do this. But here is a basic explanation. If you want to use the stock gauge cluster you will need to keep everything as stock as possible (sensors and computer). You will have to reuse engine sensors (ECT, oil pressure, engine RPM and so on) and stock ECU which is a complicated mess depending on your goals for the car in regards to ignition and fuel setup. Basically you need to do a 5.0L (302) swap and use the stock mustand gt computer and all that stuff. I recommend you use aftermarket electrical gauges for simplicity and this allows you to use better engine management options (holley or MSD). I used a cheap GPS sensor for MPH.
One crucial part about the whole swap is that the cradle does not have to be swapped in these cars to the 95 gt cradle the cradle for the v6 and the 5.0 are the same they never changed them between the cars
From my experience that's not true. Your setup must be different than mine. I tried to use the v6 k member and I had clearance issues with the cylinder heads hitting the firewall. Also the v6 k member is the same as the one used for the mod motor 4.6. the v6 gets special engine mounts to fit the 4.6 mod motor k member that is in all new edge mustangs. Maybe you got lucky by using different engine mounts or something in your setup is different then mine. Anyway, there is more than one way to do this swap. I'm not surprised you were able to use the v6 k member.
Hey I’m planing on swapping a 302 into my v6 mustang, I was wondering what else I have to swap besides the Transmission K member Engine ofc Wiring harness? Drive shaft? Rear diff?
Great video. You said you used a stock GT engine K member. Any issues with just using a tubular K member instead? This swap is something I want to do very much to my 04 Screaming Yellow vert soon. Thanks!!
Pretty positive you don't have to change the k member 100 percent sure a 3.8 3.9 car you do not. Also worth saying headers from a fox will work as well. I'll confirm this with in the next few months as I'm swapping a 01 v6 car. Mine will be budget an will likely have a g.m. one wire alternator hei distributor and possibly will change the timing chain cover to run a manual fuel pump.
The 99-04 mustangs k member is setup for the 4.6L mod motor. The 3.8 has special engine mounts to make it fit. I recommend changing k members to a 94-95 mustang gt. Then the sbf will fit perfectly with correct drive line angles.
ALL 96+ cars will need the K member changed, V6 or not. They went to the 4.6 K member across the board starting in 96 and redesigned the V6 motor mounts to work with the 4.6 style K member.
I'm planning on swapping out my 4.6 for a pushrod 302 or 351 in my 98 GT because I just rather have a pushrod engine mustang GT because it's easier to work on and cheaper to buy parts for and it's a better motor.
2 out of 3 ain't bad. Cheaper yes, easier to work, slightly yes, better motor. Not a chance. I own 3 mustangs now. None are pushrod or straight axle. Embrace the innovation. Its faster, more reliable and more comfortable
"any ford cylinder head" did you look into the clevor setup? Cleveland heads seem to do the trick for engine masters challenges. A little bit harder to find but the aftermarket has it covered pretty well.
My 06 model mustang v6 took a crap and I am on a strict budget. However I do have a 351 Windsor and a CJ automatic what will I have to do to make the swap work?
So I can practically just drop in a sn95 gt 1995 v8 engine onto my 1999 v6 new edge mustang?? I’m about to pull a motor from the junk yard and start from there if that’s the case. Is t more worth it to do the swap or to turbo the v6???
I used the stock efi fuel pump bucket. Drilled a large hole in the bottom to help fuel fill faster. I used a plastic fuel line and attached it to the efi pump feed hose. Ran the plastic fuel line to bottom of fuel bucket. Cut a diagonal at end of fuel hose to prevent it from sucking to the bottom of fuel bucket
I heard the 5.0 V8 302 that came in the mercury mountaineer from 1998-2001 Came with GT 40 heads And I’m wondering what I should put it in because I have one sitting outside
I got a 69 351w block going in my 98 GT hopefully next month. I got the Windsor Sr. Aluminum heads 205cfm with a port job. I’m stoked. How long did that T5 hold up for you?
So i have a 72 f250 with a 351. Its bored 40 over with flat tops and cammed. It was used as a farm truck has 5k miles on rebuild but now it just sits. I also have a 02 gt i want to put that in. The manual from the f250 would i be able to use that bellhousing from that or would i still need to find an old 5.0
Stock K members are different between sn95 and new edge. The location for the engine mounts are in different spots. Use a stock 94-95 mustang gt k member. If you use an aftermarket tubular k member then it can fit in both sn95 and new edge because the engine mount tabs should be setup for a 5.0.
Pretty much everything is the same. Except I'm pretty sure you need a flat tappet style camshaft. Use the proper break in assembly lube for flat tappet lifters and you'll be fine. Google search comp cams break in procedure for a flat tappet cam.
I kept the stock BCM computer in the car. I only removed the engine computer (PCM). All that stuff still works with no issues. I still use the factory key.
Im working on this same swap in my 2000 new edge, I'm just curious if you ran into any valve clearance issues with the cam and rockers your running, I've got a set of 1.72 svo roller rockers and I haven't bought a cam yet just curious if I should be worried about the cam I buy
If you are using stock pistons. The f303 camshaft with 1.6rr rockers and with a cylinder head using a 1.84 inch diameter intake valve will clear. I have ran this setup in the past. The problem is when you run aftermarket cylinder heads with a 2.00 inch intake valve diameter you start to run into piston to valve clearance issues. Always measure and make sure!!! I made a video about this already! For your setup, if you run into issues, you can either notch the piston for bigger valve reliefs yourself or run a thicker head gasket.
Hey man, what rad did you end up going with. I dunno if i missed that part or not. Mine was a v6 manual and im swapping a 351w/C6 into it and was looking at the 99-04 automatic rads as they come with the tranny cooler.
Yes you can! However using the bell housing from a 94-95 mustang gt will make your exhaust fit with more clearance. If you use the V6 bell housing the clutch fork sits in a different position.
My car was a V6 originally. I used all stock parts from the v6. Stock pump, lines, cooler and steering rack. This also applies to brakes. I still use the vacuum assisted brake booster.
go for it! putting a turbo on a stock internal v6 will have its own challenges. keep the boost low and safe timing and you will be happy. I did the 351 swap because i wanted the V8 and was willing to swap the engine. Swapping and engine takes time an money but a turbo kit also does the same> Good luck!
Hey brother so me and my cousins are looking to getting into drag racing. We're debating between using a 351 Windsor or a gm 350. How does the 351 compare to the 350 in terms of cost for performance parts
Generally the 350 will be cheaper to build. Performance and cost is relatively up to you guys and what aftermarket parts you decide to buy. I assume your intentions are not to rebuild a stock 350 or 351, so both of those engines will need aftermarket intake, cylinder heads, camshaft and so on. If you want to go efi, I recommend LS or any modern chevy 5.3. If your staying carbureted either the 350 or 351 will get the job done but the 350 may be a little cheaper in the long run. You also need to keep in mind what transmission you want to use. Your engine choice may affect what transmission you want to use
To save money, no nothing wrong with going carb. However my stang is fuel injected now because I wanted the ability to tune my car on the fly for different events. Drag racing, drifting and so on. If you have some extra money I recommend going fuel injected. Have the ability to datalog is very convenient and helpful
Haha I have no idea. I would look to see if anyone makes turbo kits for a 351 in a new edge mustang. Or maybe modify a turbo kit for a 94-95 mustang with a 302
That burnout would be impressive if you didn't have your foot on the damn brake! Gurrrrrrr....so annoying! Great info & cool donuts. Thanks for making the swap look easy!
I wired mine separately from the cars original fuel pump electrical circuit. I did not use the electrical circuit already in the car because the fuel pump controller originally controls the fuel pump. I used a 12v holley blue pump (for carbureted applications) and wired power and ground to it and used a toggle switch to turn the fuel pump on.
@Crown Racing Co. they’ll be a sick set, I have an idea in mind that will be better than 180 degree headers. The 351 helps with mockup purposes. But I got y’all, i might send a set if you wear a decal, that’s later tho 😅😁. I gotta ask, stock k member or tubular?
From a closer look at more videos, I guess you are in MI not WI. So you probably can't help with info on engine swapped obd2 car registration in WI. Still like your videos.
The only computer i removed was the PCM which is the computer that controls the engine. All other computers are on different electrical circuits so you can keep everything else
Yes I did. I'm using a 2003 mustang v6 steering rack and power steering pump. Stock 95 mustang gt lower control arms and knuckles. However, I'm pretty sure 94-95 mustang gt and new edge lower control arms and knuckles are the exact same.
Off brand bbk shorty headers, 3in exhaust pipe with no cross over (true dual setup) and flow master 10 series mufflers. I dump the exhaust towards the ground before the rear axle.
I use a digital 6 plus Msd controller. 2 wires Power/ground from battery. 12v ignition on wire. Rpm Signal from tach is 2 wires. You can lookup MSD wire diagrams on google
I live in Michigan, we don’t have to worry about emissions. If you live in a state that requires vehicle inspections. Install catalytic converters on your exhaust system and work on your tune.
Did you run into a problem with your car not cranking that’s my problem I got rid of the engine harness and ccrm now when I try to turn it over I get nothing I’m lost
You are correct about the white/pink wire. Okay so that’s not the issue. Is the key paired with the car? I’m assuming you are using the same key that worked in the past? Does the car have any DTC codes related to anti-theft? All I had to do was bypass that wire for the neutral switch and I was able to crank my car.
Can you explain how you bypassed the white/pink wire? I ran mine a new wire from that white/pink wire and spliced it back into the engine bay harness near the fuse block on the driver side. Send me an email crownracingco@gmail.com and we can discuss further. I’ll have to look at my car and double check how I wired the circuit
@@CrownRacingCo thanks for the reply that’s exactly what I ended up doing with mine works like a charm ran new wire from the white and pink at the ign switch and spliced in by the fuse block fired right up
I switched to fuel injection. I use a Holley super sniper 650. I love it. No issues with anti theft because you keep all those electronics in the vehicle still. Only remove the computer for the engine (ECU)

Great video. You said you used a stock GT engine K member. Any issues with just using a tubular K member instead? This swap is something I want to do very much to my 04 Screaming Yellow vert soon. Thanks!!
I've never tried a tubular k member. My assumption is it would make the swap even easier. You'll have more room for exhaust headers.
that car is so sick
Thanks!
If you don't change the k member. You have to move the engine mounts 1 inch backwards towards the fire wall.
Thinking of doing a 557 swap with Kaase SR71 heads and a 6R80 6SPD Auto into my 2000 GT 😁
It’s the Lords work you are doing.
Hahahaha thank you! SBF for life!
How much horse power does this build with the carb did? I'm thinking of doing almost the same build.
Did the V6 power steering pump and alternator bolt right up or were adaptors needed??? I use to have the exact same color. Killer build btw 😀
They bolted directly onto the 95 Ford bronco accessory drive brackets I’m using.
Great video love the information picking up a new edge soon. what about inspection?
Just do the basics if you can. Compression or leak down test. Take a look at the spark plugs and check for oil leaks
"any ford cylinder head" did you look into the clevor setup? Cleveland heads seem to do the trick for engine masters challenges. A little bit harder to find but the aftermarket has it covered pretty well.
I never looked into it myself. But I have heard of other people using Cleveland heads on a 351w
Good job bud
You should paint your rear wheels like how the front ones are, it just looks weird when it all chrome
Car looks good and sounds good is it a bullet looks like it anyway like always God bless 🙌
My stang is actually a V6 body. The color is tropic green. It's very similar to the bullet green
I found a 80s 351w on Facebook and I have a 00 v6 mustang. What kind of wiring did you have to do to it?
The issue I'm running into is my belt drive on my 72 351w this V belt shit has to go!
Email us crownracingco@gmail.com and I'll send you an engine swap guide. Explains how and what parts are needed
Can you give more details on the fuel system? Did you have to sump the tank? And is it a return system?
Currently my system is return less. However, I recommend taking the time to make a return style system to prevent fuel vapor lock
If you email me Crownracingco@gmail.com I can send pictures and discuss further in detail
Would you mind if I did the same? I've swapped to full sn95 k member and suspension looking for info in reference to fuel system
I heard the 5.0 V8 302 that came in the mercury mountaineer from 1998-2001 Came with GT 40 heads And I’m wondering what I should put it in because I have one sitting outside
They are great heads if your power goals for the engine are less then 340hp/tq
I'm planning on doing this to my 97 wonder if it be easier
I got a 69 351w block going in my 98 GT hopefully next month. I got the Windsor Sr. Aluminum heads 205cfm with a port job. I’m stoked. How long did that T5 hold up for you?
The T5 held up great on the street. Stay away from a sticky tire at a drag strip or else you will blow up 2nd or 3rd gear.
So i have a 72 f250 with a 351. Its bored 40 over with flat tops and cammed. It was used as a farm truck has 5k miles on rebuild but now it just sits. I also have a 02 gt i want to put that in. The manual from the f250 would i be able to use that bellhousing from that or would i still need to find an old 5.0
Not sure if that bellhousing will work. Maybe do some quick research on google. But at least you know the 5.0 bellhousing will fit as a backup plan.
Do the new edge and original sn95 use the same tubular kmember?
Please reply to me.
Stock K members are different between sn95 and new edge. The location for the engine mounts are in different spots. Use a stock 94-95 mustang gt k member. If you use an aftermarket tubular k member then it can fit in both sn95 and new edge because the engine mount tabs should be setup for a 5.0.
@@CrownRacingCo awesome and one more thing you went through (3) 351w blocks what caused it and how to prevent it?
Cool video
I have 2000 ford mustang has 3.8 I wanting to put 5.0 are 351 w in it any input on what I would need to do
email us at crownracingco@gmail.com. Ill send you a 351w engine swap guide
could you use all those engine mods on a 85 351? in the middle of rebuilding a 99 v6 swap now!
And what kind of cam shaft break in do you suggest>
Pretty much everything is the same. Except I'm pretty sure you need a flat tappet style camshaft. Use the proper break in assembly lube for flat tappet lifters and you'll be fine. Google search comp cams break in procedure for a flat tappet cam.
@@CrownRacingCo 🖒
Will 94-95 mustang motor mounts fit on a 2000 v6 stock k member?
what did you do about the headlight and tailights? or did you do anything to them.
I had to use the taller valve covers for rocker clearance.
Hey man, what rad did you end up going with. I dunno if i missed that part or not. Mine was a v6 manual and im swapping a 351w/C6 into it and was looking at the 99-04 automatic rads as they come with the tranny cooler.
SVE aluminum radiator. I bought it from LMR. I got a radiator for a 94-95 mustang GT because I wanted the pressure cap on the radiator.
So can you use the manual v6 transmission with the 351 or no
Yes you can! However using the bell housing from a 94-95 mustang gt will make your exhaust fit with more clearance. If you use the V6 bell housing the clutch fork sits in a different position.
How did you get the power steering to work what lines and did you keep the hydro boost
My car was a V6 originally. I used all stock parts from the v6. Stock pump, lines, cooler and steering rack. This also applies to brakes. I still use the vacuum assisted brake booster.
What oil pan do you use? My woman just ruptured the oil pan on our 99 V6 due to it being lowered
I have a 2002 v6. I may just turbo the v6. If I do a swap, it would be a 351!
go for it! putting a turbo on a stock internal v6 will have its own challenges. keep the boost low and safe timing and you will be happy.
Is this car driven on the street? I have some questions about registering an engine swapped mustang in SE WI. Or is this a track only car?
That is correct we live in Michigan with no emission requirements... for now at least lol
Any regrets on going carbed over injected?
To save money, no nothing wrong with going carb. However my stang is fuel injected now because I wanted the ability to tune my car on the fly for different events. Drag racing, drifting and so on. If you have some extra money I recommend going fuel injected. Have the ability to datalog is very convenient and helpful
🤚🚫COYOTE🚫
LOVE THE OLDSCHOOL 😍🚘♥️
Now my question is... would a twin turbo in this build be possible?
Haha I have no idea. I would look to see if anyone makes turbo kits for a 351 in a new edge mustang. Or maybe modify a turbo kit for a 94-95 mustang with a 302
@@CrownRacingCo I'm going to do some digging, see if I can get it done. I'll let you know!
That burnout would be impressive if you didn't have your foot on the damn brake! Gurrrrrrr....so annoying!
Great info & cool donuts. Thanks for making the swap look easy!
How did u get the original fuel pump to work mine won’t work
I wired mine separately from the cars original fuel pump electrical circuit. I did not use the electrical circuit already in the car because the fuel pump controller originally controls the fuel pump. I used a 12v holley blue pump (for carbureted applications) and wired power and ground to it and used a toggle switch to turn the fuel pump on.
Awesome 👍👍
Hey, do y’all happen to be in Texas? I’m looking to make headers soon for my 302 new edge, would y’all like to get a set for the 351?
We are located in Michigan. Thanks for the offer but we don’t have a need for headers right now
@Crown Racing Co. they’ll be a sick set, I have an idea in mind that will be better than 180 degree headers. The 351 helps with mockup purposes. But I got y’all, i might send a set if you wear a decal, that’s later tho 😅😁. I gotta ask, stock k member or tubular?
What kind of flywheel did you use?
I used a 28oz SVE flywheel with 157teeth for the starter
From a closer look at more videos, I guess you are in MI not WI. So you probably can't help with info on engine swapped obd2 car registration in WI. Still like your videos.
That is correct we live in Michigan with no emission requirements... for now at least lol
So to put a 5.0 in a 98 v6 car all I need is motor mounts and oil pan and pick up tube correct?
email us, crownracingco.com and I can send you a 5.0 engine swap guide into a sn95
Did you remove stock computers? Wiring? Security things?
The only computer i removed was the PCM which is the computer that controls the engine. All other computers are on different electrical circuits so you can keep everything else
What wheels are those and where did you find that front bumper splitter?
They are XXR 531 wheels. I found the front splitter on eBay. You have to search around to find this kind with a longer bottom edge.
I would do a 363. Better performance overall. Especially if you use the Dart block.
Did you use an H-pipe? Thanks
I did a true dual exhaust. No cross over. This was only because I wanted to save on cost at the time.
Are you running fox style accessories brackets or sn95(94-95). I'm dropping a 302 in my 98
I'm running truck style accessory brackets. They are very similar to a 94-95 mustang gt accessory drive setup.
hey my man did you use the new edge steering components and control arms ?
Yes I did. I'm using a 2003 mustang v6 steering rack and power steering pump. Stock 95 mustang gt lower control arms and knuckles. However, I'm pretty sure 94-95 mustang gt and new edge lower control arms and knuckles are the exact same.
@@CrownRacingCo sweet thanks for the info! Trying to swap in a 387 w into our v6 new edge should be a hoot!
Exhaust set up?
Off brand bbk shorty headers, 3in exhaust pipe with no cross over (true dual setup) and flow master 10 series mufflers. I dump the exhaust towards the ground before the rear axle.
@@CrownRacingCo ok thanks so much
What type of wiring is needed for a setup like this? Meaning with the msd
I use a digital 6 plus Msd controller. 2 wires Power/ground from battery. 12v ignition on wire. Rpm Signal from tach is 2 wires. You can lookup MSD wire diagrams on google
And how would one get thru emmisions??
I live in Michigan, we don’t have to worry about emissions. If you live in a state that requires vehicle inspections. Install catalytic converters on your exhaust system and work on your tune.
Did you run into a problem with your car not cranking that’s my problem I got rid of the engine harness and ccrm now when I try to turn it over I get nothing I’m lost
Is the car automatic or manual? If it’s manual check your neutral safety switch circuit. Did you keep the stock harness for the starter?
@@CrownRacingCo I bypassed it just in case I think the white with pink stripe ran through the engine harness
@@CrownRacingCo thanks for the reply that’s exactly what I ended up doing with mine works like a charm ran new wire from the white and pink at the ign switch and spliced in by the fuse block fired right up
Has anyonee done this fuel injection and did you have to bypass antitheft
I switched to fuel injection. I use a Holley super sniper 650. I love it. No issues with anti theft because you keep all those electronics in the vehicle still. Only remove the computer for the engine (ECU)
I’m looking at doing this swap and I’m curious if it’s possible That I could text you about it.
Send us an email crownracingco@gmail.com I can send you an engine swap guide
