Thanks, Greg, for pointing out Mystery Science. Their website is awesome! As Yaron pointed out, we still have American business, a lot of good can be found there.
Wow...this was terrible even by ARI standards. Tara: "Too many people obeyed the lockdowns!" Greg: "Too many people dismissed expertise because of stupid conspiracy theories!" Yaron: "Doctors who were pretending to be statisticians".... Yaron is the indefensibly laughable one out of the bunch, given the fact that ARI's entire gimmick is about spreading the ideas of a *novelist* who *pretended* to be a philosopher (Ayn Rand). Ayn Rand's "philosophy" amounts to a garbled hash of plagiarized tidbits: A pseudo-Aristotelian metaphysics and epistemology (whic is what gives "Objectivism" the thin patina of - seeming - credibility it has. The rest is basically badly recycled Nietzsche. Rand's "heroes" are basically Neitszche's "ubermenschen", standing triumphantly above a sea of untermenschen ("looters", "Moochers", "Human ballast", "parasites", "Savages" etc.) Realistically, the only genuinely "original" thing Rand devied was to turm Immanual Kant into the Objectivist version of Satan - blaming everything she/her followers didn't like as "Kantian", etc. Utter incomptetence from ARI - as per usual. Just sayin'.
Yes to all of this! Dr. Salmieri’s comment on “ignoring expertise” in favor of conspiracy theories is especially rich considering that he and his cronies spent the last decade trying to convince their acolytes to ignore “the experts” on climate change which they were convinced was a type of “conspiracy theory” devised to by environmentalists to shut down industry!
Excellent analysis of current culture and what can be done to head it toward good values.
I enjoyed the presentation, I hope ARI will produce more panel discussions in the future.
How can I join your Organization?
Can you Please add subtitles for the art of fiction course in aynrand University app?
I was disappointed that the room wasn't set up well for watching a panel talk.
