  • A red tide, a red stain in normally aqua blue water, comes from a naturally occurring microorganism in the Gulf. It's leading to thousands of pounds of dead fish washing up on shore -- and having a human health effect as well. NBC’s Sam Brock reports for TODAY.

I mean, a red tide in itself is natural. What is not natural is having fertilizers, etc leeching into the ocean and feeding it.

This is good, more vacations need to be ruined, more businesses need to fail. Having dead dolphins and dead fish wash up in peak tourism season on national TV is the only way Florida politicians might care for a minute. Their pockets are lined with polluting agriculture and commercial interests.

I live here in Tampa Bay Area; realistically I don’t see a solution for this state is way too populated. No one will ban fertilizer and go after Big Sugar. There are many other factors but that would be where to start

For a moment i thought you said ".. way too polluted." and I was almost going to mention excessive farming because of overpopulation.
It's very saddening to think that not enough people are aware of even care about these things that affect our environment and *natural way of life* .

We used to import a lot of our sugar from Mexico but the domestic corn/sugar lobby got our politicians to increase tariffs on sugar imports.
