**UPDATE** since this video was made Leave No Trace Principles have been updated for SUMMER 2022 and LNT is asking that all campers, hikers, etc PACK OUT ALL HUMAN WASTE. Yes, that means bagging your poop just like you would for a dog.
    PACK OUT YOUR POOP :)
    Happy Camping!

It is natural but the reason human society developed sanitation and sewage systems was because human waste everywhere was a health hazard … it’s lucky that only a minority of people excrete in public places like this . If we all

I worked for Amazon for several months, driving one of those huge blue vans, during COVID . . . when there were no open to customers bathrooms anywhere. I used a pee cup like yours, but modified somewhat. I placed a quart Ziplock bag inside the cup, folding the top couple of inches outside the cup. Inside the Ziplock bag, at the bottom, I placed half of only the absorbent part of a baby diaper (cut the rest of the diaper away with scissors). I bought Dollar Tree packs of diapers - very inexpensive. When done peeing, zip up the Ziplock. Toss when at next trash bin. The portion of diaper absorbs the liquid and ALSO COUNTERACTS ODORS.

Have found pee cup also. For pooping, carry a small stack of newspapers. Put 2 or 3 sheets spread on floor, poop on to newspaper, wipe with adult personal wipes. Place wipes on the poop and carefully fold paper with poop & wipes wrapped tightly inside into a small bundle & throw away in trash can when you stop for gas. If you are nervous about bundle coming apart you can place bundle in a plastic bag after you have finished. The wipes are great for a fresh feeling & clean hands. The newspaper has ink that helps with odor till you get to dumpster.

I was driving a few hours to visit family with my infant and became very "ill". I had cramps that came out of nowhere and had absolutely NO time to prepare, so without any shame, I pulled off and used my son's baby diaper. I already was good at taping them shut right away nice and tight and tossing them in proper receptacles. I advise keeping a few on hand because they will absorb it all (poo, pee, or vomit) and there is no concern regarding spillage. There is no shame in any of this, especially if you are sick. They are also great for your emergency kit if you ever should have to cover a bleeding wound.

I knew a woman that was in her 70s that had been mostly living out of her car for years. She had monthly income but had so many bad experiences renting it was pretty much the choice she had made. We were friends and as such I knew that she had bladder control issues and routinely wore an adult diaper. She told me this and it was because she was tired of having accidents. This meant that she would often have to use a bathroom that was suitable for getting "cleaned up". As an adult one should learn that you have to have respect for people that deal with their own burdens. Turns out she had cancer and was more or less "dying" the whole time I knew her. Found out that something urgent had happened and she went to the hospital for something that wouldn't ordinarily be considered that bad. She never left the hospital under her own power. Rest in peace, Kim. The diaper idea may be a good option for some people especially if you are going to be on an Interstate highway for hours because waiting for an exit ramp leading to a nearby bathroom or even just a place to park may be a mistake.

I had a really bad case of diarrhea after a Fourth of July potluck picnic and after several weeks of Imodium I took one Pearl size dab horse dewormer and that did the trick. Good to keep in your first aid kit and use whenever you're not feeling so good. A little dabble do ya! Haha! Safest drug that big Pharma ever made. The reason it works so well is that it does not kill the parasites but rather paralyzes them and when you're immune system takes them out it is also taking out all the bacteria and viruses that we're feeding on that still living parasite. I trust horse dewormer because horses have very sensitive stomachs and they're not going to add anything bad. Available at your local feed store without a prescription because the horse Lobby is so strong.

Yes and the biggest scam in American history is the “composting toilet! Not ONLY is there ZERO “composting” happening, but you can’t use a composting toilet WITH diarrhea, vomit, menstrual blood and tissues, or ANY antibiotics or strong psychiatric or chemo medications.. and human feces has OVER 300 TRILLION pathogens! Now that more people are camping as a lifestyle and even homeless, THEY CAN NOT poop in our dwindling forests, woods, land, etc. Pathogens sink into our water tables. The Colorado River which supplies CA with water, is so contaminated people don’t drink the water!

While doing a road trip during Covid many restrooms were closed so I made a "potty station" by moving the passenger seat up as far as possible so I could squat on the floor board in the back seat. I used an old ice cream bucket that the pee could be dumped out of easily. That worked better for my balance in a squating position inside the car. I have used a pee cup as well at other times.
For BMs (poop) I put a small plastic trash bag in an old ice cream bucket and did my business. I then placed that bag in a very heavy duty zip lock bag. To disguise it, I placed the Ziploc bag in a shopping bag and threw away in an outside trash can when possible. The Ziploc bag helped with odor control as well as spills. The next time I do this, I'll have a second bucket with a lid that I can store the BM filled bags until I can dispose... My dog was a little too interested in the poop bag. LOL

For #2 I use a 2 gallon bucket with noodle padding around the rim. I use a disposable bag with the small compressed wood pieces (like the pellets used in a pellet stove) or used in animal cages (purchased at north 40). It absorbs liquid & odor perfectly. I store my roll of disposable bags, TP, & zip-lock bag of pellets inside the bucket with lid when not in use. Works great for me. We use a pop up tent for a changing room/bathroom outside the tear drop if staying a few days.

As a parent I have traveled with a low tech potty training "toilet" and I think it's worth consideration. Some fold up, some are one piece...they are small, but if you are squatting you aren't sitting on them anyway the size is less important. Some of them have a removable bowl that you can put a plastic bag on.
Keeping an umbrella (or two) in your vehicle for privacy can be really helpful as well.

The Shewee is great after a bit of trial and error at home in the shower. You just have to be sure to press it up firmly onto your perineum rather than at the front. If you press evenly all round or harder at the front edge, wee can leak out at the back. The front takes care of itself if you press moderately hard at the back. The benefit once you have the nack is you have the option to wee standing up with just your flies down like a man. I put tissue in my pants first then pat dry and dispose. That way you can picnic toilet like a man does and don’t feel vulnerable pulling your pants right down and squatting. You don’t get wee on your shoes and you can also wee into a screw top bottle if you need to go inside the van. Love all these tips, Brooke. Stuff your best friend will tell you… xxx

No squatting, can be wearing skirt & no one knows. The freedom of feeling like a boy is amazing!! (Haven’t been in snowy area BUT you know I’m writing my name in snow the 1st time🤣)
I practiced practiced practiced in shower to learn pee funnel. In my suv I prefer my Nancy’s 64oz yogurt container. It’s low, it’s wide. It’s lid holds liquid without spillage. Put that doggie pee pad underneath & fold up for reuse when you’ve been "a good, good girl" & haven’t spilled.
Just an idea that I use-no tp. None. I bought couple packs of washcloths@Walmart ($6 for 18) in white. I cut each cloth in 1/2. Just throw in with laundry. In my suv, I’ve got my hillbilly bidet squirt bottle to keep clean & healthy. After the Covid TP fiasco of 2020, I decided to save $$$ & the washcloths have actually been great. Also got few packs of black washcloths for, well, you know. You CAN poo in yogurt container, too. I don’t mix poo/pee. Pee is stored in detergent container til I find a public toilet.
*IF you’re worried about someone seeing your bare bum peeing in trees-you will NEVER see them again. Stand up straight & proud with your empty bladder & no wet pants&go live your best life!

My favorite solution is to use a plastic coffee jug with a snap-on lid. I can set it on a surface or hold it under me. Another way I go is to sit forward on the bottom of the cars' door-frame, and go on the ground. It is virtually undetectible as you are shielded by the car door, and have your pants only part-way down.

Saved me many times while traveling for my job!! This country has so many beautiful, wide open areas thankfully. So ya definitely gotta plan to use some kind of toileting options if you are going to travel thru them. 😁👍My friends and family know that toilet tissue is an acceptable gift for me any time! 🤪🤣

Loved this video, I've been a (female) truck driver for 20 years and this has always been a big issue. Nowadays I use a large margarine container, lined with a large ziplock (for #1). This works great, because you can use it a couple of times and no clean up. I'm usually able to go #2 at a rest area or outside on an exit ramp, between my truck and trailer. Anyways appreciate this video, happy trails to you🙋‍♀️❤

My go one and 2 is, Walmart, RECTANGLE shaped, plastic small trash can. It fits front to back with no splash or miss. Scented trash bag and baking soda..You can also use the hard plastic big gulp 52 oz with hard plastic lid and handle, place it inside the can and then just empty that. It's great for inside the vehicle space and splash back wise.

When traveling a long distance I’m telling you the large cup with a lid has been a lifesaver for years but since c19 and traveling at different states… you learn really quickly how to pack down a car van or suv 🚙 for camping into at times. A hint I advise is when you go to the gas station let them know you need 🧊 and get the largest cup with a top.. they will charge you like 50 cents to 75 cents for the cup. And have some paper towels scented bags and baby wipes 🧻. And ℹ keep the odo ban spray in the truck 🛻 for sanitizing issues and freshing the vehicle from additional odors. Ty for this video 🔥🔥🔥

For gig work I used an inflatable bedpan I bought on Amazon. It was a 2 pack for $6. I line it with a bag & a gel pad. Looks like those old school commercial paper towels. I think they’re called commode liners? Those are about $20 for 80. During Covid no one let you use the bathroom. I threw the sun shade in the windshield and have heavy tint everywhere else. Kept a roll of tp in the glove box, and had a giant bottle of hand sanitizer in the cup holder. Slid the bed pan under, pulled my pants to my knees, and sat down. Stood up and wiped, holding the steering wheel while I slid it back out from under me. Pull up pants, tie up bag, sanitize, sun shade, and back to work. Hope this helps. We can't always count on all the modern conveniences we've all become use to. Look at the people in Texas that lost all power, water and 100 people froze to death. All the emergency fixes for almost every emergency is on utube. For extreme heat, extreme cold, just check out the peppers and homesteaders, it's amazing the things you can learn. I had only one poop emergency. I pooped in really cheap thrifted, small stainless steel soup pot with lid, together with (from a cheap bag) horse pellets and a little kitty litter in a compostceable bag. I forgot about it for weeks and when I finally found it didn't smell, wasn’t moldy or anything. Stainless steel wouldn't have absorbed the smell like plastic. (I saw this idea on line, I don't remember where, sadly.)

I came up with the idea of peeing in a quart-size yogurt container, and using small squares of an old 100% cotton sheet instead of toilet paper when I retired from work two years ago, for two reasons: (1) my income was suddenly half of what I made when working; and (2) I was no longer getting 40 hours a week of free access to my employer's toilet paper and flush water. Water is expensive where I live, and stores are sometimes out of t.p. with so many people hoarding it. So now I only use paper and flush the toilet for poop; the pee gets poured in the sink drain, and the cloths get a quick rinse, tightly wrung out, and draped over a hanger. The humidity is low where I live, and the cloths are dry in a couple of hours. I have a separate half-bathroom for guests, so no one is alarmed or grossed out by my eccentric behavior.

What a great video! Thanks Brooke for tackling a delicate issue. I like your transparency and honesty. For me, I haven't camped from my car yet, but I carry a quart-sized yogurt container with a lid for emergencies. I've used it in the city many times when I can't get to a public facility. I can actually pee into it without spilling a drop while seated behind the wheel. Sometimes I squat in the back seat. I've done this in sparsely used parking lots, etc. So happy to hear that you found the same solution after spending money on those other gadgets. I like the pee-rag option for at- home use too. I'm trying to not use toilet paper except for #2 at home. Saves money as saves on clogging the sewer or septic system. Thanks so much! Keep on with posting your tips. Much appreciated.

I love that you have shared your experience on this topic!
I live on a semi truck several months at a time. I do not get off the truck just to use the bathroom. I have a plastic office garbage bin that is about 2.5 to three feet tall. I line the top edges with foam pipe insulation and double bag with strong, 13 gal kitchen garbage bags. I put a cup or two of livestock bedding pellets in the bottom that are exactly like Feline Pine pellets, only cheaper.
I will immediately find a garbage can after going #2 but will wait 24 hours if it's only #1. The pellets smell great.
I disagree about the availability of suitable garbage cans. You can use rest areas, gas stations at the fuel island, camp grounds, and any truck stop or travel plaza. There are many more to choose from.
I also do this in my rv. I don't like black tanks or blue chemical. I might try pee powder in the future.
Looking forward to more of your videos. 😁

I have been using a modified luggable loo, I use a plastic coffee canister to pee in while on the toilet seat and put the lid on and store it inside the luggable loo until I can empty it. I’ve used the nut butter jars w screw lids and they work well. Only downside is the capacity. I graduated to a large tall glass pickle jar (more capacity, no drip lid) and am a happy camper! I can get a number of uses out of it before it needs emptying. Happy times!

In my camper van I use a rectangular plastic container. Place a used produce bag in it , put it in the toilet and close the toilet lid. Out of sight out of mind! Just tie it up and toss then replace the plastic bag. I do this even in RV parks because I don't like having to use the dump station. The black tank stays clean most of the time and I never have an odor problem in the tiny bathroom.

If necessary plastic bag is then put into screw top container.
