When is Kent going to be granted "National Treasure" status? One of the best guitar players in the world.
Tommy Emmanuel, I personally feel before he kicks on to the next plane of existence with his beloved and awesome brother Phill, will award a CGP (Certified Guitar Player) designation/award to Kent Nishimura. No other person deserves this award to be bestowed upon them to be along with the other CGP's.

Wow! I saw Tommy Emmanuel live in Würselen, Germany about three weeks ago. If I closed my eyes while listening to this I would definitely think it was him. Kent's covers are absolutely fantastic. So many times one hears covers and isn't sure which song is actually being covered. Kent not only masters difficult covers of single instrument songs (like this one), but also songs where he captures the way multiple instruments interact on a song. Superb!

Once while sleeping I woke up and immediately wept, cried because right before waking up, usually the best or the worst part of a dream is right at that very moment, and I had been dreaming that I was playing the repertoire of Earl Klugh and I was so happy that I was actually crying of happiness. Earl is embedded very deep in my psyche, incredibly talented, you'd all agree with me...
Enter Ken. He is still a young teen, and he's been lately taking over that niche where Earl Wilbert Klugh Jr. has been for ages. This incredibly gifted performer comes to my mind in such a large repertoire, and playing along with some of the great performers of classic guitar, pop guitar, you name it, this kid is incredible. If love to listen to him perform "Light my fire" by the equally incredibly talented José Feliciano, and play with him, making a studio album with all his hits, Chico and the man, Aranjuez, his romantic tunes, whoever has listened to our José knows he is one great performer and showman. And Ken's style would be perfect in all these Feliciano's songs. But this is not about José, it is about Ken, he only needs to hear from the immense repertoire of guitar and not guitar music I am pretty sure he could play in an incredibly beautiful form, this young man will be remembered, have no doubt. If I had his address I'd send him some of the José Feliciano's songs, I am pretty sure that out of his hands all it'll come out of is bliss, a trip, a voyage to another dimension, indeed, this young man isn't even starting to climb, but once he starts there ain't nothing that could stop me. Somebody get me his email address, there may be a few capitalist partners that would like to jump in a venture where this talented kid is featured. Puerto Rico is where thousands of artists start their meteoric careers. We are a great public and know when we are in front of a prodigy, and indeed Ken is one prodigy.
Except his name is *Kent, not Ken... 🙂✌

I like your tempo.
Tommy is a great innovator and showman, but I love that Kent plays this piece without attempting to recreate any of the extravagant theatrical liberties that Tommy takes with timing.and attack when performing (probably to keep it interesting to himself after all these years).
Kent’s faultless internal metronome lays it all out where it can be gently appreciated, yet he does not sterilise or mechanise the essence.

Came across this old video of Kent’s rendition of Tommy E’s Angelina…didn’t know he covered this tune. I think this is about as close to the original as it can get. But glad he has moved on from here and brought to us all his other spectacular arrangements of classic tunes……
