  • Have you ever wondered what life is like on one of the most remote Pacific Islands? The beautiful island of Atiu in the Southern Cook Islands is the second most visited island in the outer southern group (after Aitutaki) - but this unique Pacific spot has a population of only 366 residents...
Don't be put off by those figures however, as there is plenty to do on the island! We spent our days exploring the incredible Anatakitaki Caves (and swimming in the freshwater underground pool), driving around all the backroads on the island, jumping into the turquoise waters of Atiu Harbour, visiting a Tumunu (a village bar) and joining the locals for a beautiful White Sunday church service.
    Atiu is amazing.
In this episode we stayed at the beautiful Atiu Villas.

I'm guessing that Enuamanu means "land of the birds." Enua being the island and manu being the bird. See, I've been to the Cooks a number of times, so I'm a papaa who's able to extrapolate various Rarotongan words.

Hard to believe I visited Atiu in 1998. I fell in love with Atiu coffee. Visited the coffee factory and the caves to see the Kopeka bird. I stayed at the same Atiu Villas. So dark at night I could not see a thing. Glad you had a great time. I did. Cheers.

Thanks for posting guys. My dad was born on Atiu decades ago. Sent to NZ as a teen & never made it back to the islands again. My wife & I had our first trip to Raro 5 years ago unfortunately we never visited Atiu, planned for next time. We brought Atiu coffee in Raro.

I've been to Rarotonga several times and even went to Aitutaki and its mystically colorful lagoon. But one Cook Island I would love to visit at some point is Atiu; it seems like such a peaceful, very unique island, the more I hear about Atiu the more interesting it gets to me! I know Atiu has excellent coffee because I've had plenty of it in Raro.

@@AwaywiththeSteiners I've also never been to a "makatea" type island before so I'm sure it would be a very geologically different experience from what I'm used to.
