A moment that came in the same epi as 'Don't you dare'.....The key activation.
My favorite moment was Knott taking a hit from a dragon's attack of opportunity in order to save Jester. Sam is such a clutch player.

I think the reactions they have to each of these events demonstrate without any question (not that I have any doubts, but some people still bring it up at times I think) that the shows have not been pre-scripted or anything of the sort. That it really is for all intents and purposes improv on the spot gaming - as it should be :-) Excellent countdown! I still remember watching the cupcake one as it happened - soooo cool. hehe
"You need me more than I need you" I'm still thinking about that moment. Fjord fighting back was incredible!!

That whole exchange was terrifyingly beautiful. The absolute power Brennan displays through that character and the absolute futility shown on the faces of the players portraying characters who were previously haughty was marvelous indeed. ✊
Man, you could do a top 10 for calamity alone. There are just SO many killer moments

I feel like "Delilah Briarwood, We are going to sunder you" from C3 is worth mentioning if only because Laura got the ANOTHER Briarwood kill.
I put that next to cupcake in terms of the accomplishment. Both times she got one over on Matt. Delilah (and Matt) were ready for an attack, and she still got the jump on her (and him).
"You lied." At the end of C3 ep23. That moment got me into critical role.
Oohhhhhh. This should have been on there. It hurt so damn bad and had me stressing for WEEKS
The Counterspell moment hits incredibly hard when you take into account the love that Sam and Liam have for each other.
To Sam, he wasn't just trying to save Vax, he was trying to save his best friend.
One of the most powerful moments in the campaign that I would hope to see translated in LoVM.
Shorthalt was a DAMNED BEAST during that fight.
I so wanted to hug Sam. The pain in his actions. That's the moment I fell for Sam. I love the entire cast, but that moment of sheer open and raw emotion moved me like no other.
100% Matt Coleville (sp?) does a video about that moment and surrounding it that cuts the core talking about what you're saying here as well - that was enough to make me tear up all over again.
@@zorkwhouse8125 sadly it looks like he's blocked that video. I can't find it in his list, and when I try to go to the link, it says he hasn't shared it. Which is really too bad because it's a really beautiful video.
My favorite thing I've seen said about that moment was from, i think, a comment on the original e114 vod: "6 people walked into that fight willing to fight a god, 1 walked in willing to fight 2."
I love watching Sam's eyes in the cupcake scene because he's totally reading Laura's spells.
but the best Sam's eye moment is when he sees Laura roll to steal his flask because he then consistently RPs thinking everyone but Jester stole it.
C2, Yasha's, "I have so many flowers now" and so many episodes later, Beau's, "Do you wanna, like, go on a date or something?" Gave me all the feels.
They have so many great moments. I wish Ashley could have been full time earlier as I’d have loved to see more of Beau and Yasha.
I love how Marisha starts with "MY Mom" as she is so her characters it didn't even occur to her to say that in 3rd person. In that moment she had found "her" mom

One of my favorite moments is when Caleb gives the Bright Queen the Luxon Beacon. When I was first trying to get into CR I bounced around C2 and came upon that episode and when it ended with that 😘🤌 I knew CR was actually something really special and I've been a huge fan since.
That moment really shifted the entire campaign, I knew that it was basically impossible they wouldn't become aware of the beacons presence in the room so it was just a matter of if they get into a fight and lose the beacon or they somehow escape and are just on the run in unfamiliar and hostile lands indefinitely. I was definitely glad for Caleb/Liams decision in that moment. I was seriously just slack jawed the entire time

The Nott speech of "He is MY boy." That was one of first things in C2 that I went "holy shit this got real."
LOVE POTION! Also all the pike and grog moments - her teaching him how to read and them drinking when Pike uses the earring to talk to Scanlan even though he can't hear her. The whole first half of Jugs and Rods is so f*!king funny (I'm a campaign 1 critter)
I'm about halfway to taking offense over Pike's earring scene not being on this list. You can see the entire cast's reaction of "How dare you make me feel these emotions!"
Travis is such a hype man, i love his support and reactions to everyone's things. Between him and Aabria in Calamity, i was killing myself at reactions alone
The clips of their reactions to Calamity are really must watch. Whoever thought to sit them next to each other is a genius.
That counterspell moment is going TO BREAK EVERYONE in Legend of Vox Machina. Cause the new fans aren't gonna know it's coming, and the old fans will be waiting for it to come.
I’m so curious how they’re going to get that in and make it make sense and be as impactful as it was in the original show.
I think it will be tricky as the full impact of that scene kinda requires meta knowledge of how DnD works in regards to spell slots that they haven't established in LoVM.
@@majorzipf8947 I don't see how they can, it transcends the game. I wouldn't even try. I mean Scanlon should definitely counterspell. Unless they come up with some way to make Scanlon have to choose between one spell or the other (wish or counterspell) I can't see it working effectively in LOVM and thats fine. Not every moment can be translated and some moments will have more impact when translated.
My theory is that Scanlan will get an item that grants wishes, and then he'll only have 1 wish for the fight and they set it up real good that he's planning to use it on Vax, and then in the fight when everyone's at their lowpoint (including Vecna), they see him begin to teleport and Scanlan has to use it, maybe even including the "Is it worth it?" line to Vax right before he uses it.
@@majorzipf8947 This is how I think it COULD be done. Ioun gift Scanlan the Wish spell that can be cast only once. Then let Scanlan confide with Pike that he is saving it for Vax. He says something like "I wish you will stay and meet your end" with teary eyes. Easy to communicate that he only had one shot
i feel like an underrated moment is when Grog and Tary kill two guards in Vasselheim. I was listening to the podcast for that episode at work and had to go into the cooler to laugh it out, seriously the funniest CR has ever been!
If you haven't actually seen that scene, look it up: the reactions of the rest of the group while everything just came apart and Grog goes with "ok, everybody dies", it's just priceless.
I'm surprised "Whoever it was, just put it back" and "I am of the Empire, but I am no friend to the Empire" are not on this list. Unless I missed something.
As magnificent and deserving of the top spot Jester's cupcake is, I couldn't put it on a list without mentioning those other two moments.
Campaign 2 was so beautiful.

ep 97 reveal is a big one for me but rip
grog's 2 natural 20s to finish the boss in "A Search For Grog" was an epic moment
His natural 20 coming out of the Pokeball, as well.
It was e0ic, but Grogs nat 20 and the following kill of Kevdak had more impact because it came at a time when it was high stakes, life or death, campaign lives or campaign is over.

This list featured more story-based moments.
Travis had some great moments with all of his characters. He rolled some clutch high rolls or crits to save campaigns.
Its so crazy, I don't blame people who think CR is scripted.
@@I_Of_Providence to roll two nat 20s in a row is unreal, it's a 1 in 400 chance. So it's pretty epic for the players and makes the moment even more memorable. It happening at a live show in front of hundreds of people is even more crazy.
Cupcake scene, I think, is easily my favourite bc no matter how many times I watch it, I still feel the tension and anxiety. And well, all of Calamity is amazing, but especially Sam's speech, or when Cerrit saw the two eyes of an invisible person.
Campaign 2 is littered with so many wonderful moments, from the gentle kiss Molly gives to Caleb in the manticore cave, most of the M9 seeing the ocean for the first time, Essek coming to the Xhorhause for dinner, jester telling Caleb that his actions don’t define him and he’s a good person all the way to caduceus divine interventioning the wild mother to bring Kingsley to life.
I was in a dark place when I started C2, I was lonely, I felt left out of society and the world. Then I came across this beautiful band of lovely messes and like many throughout their journey they showed me that is love that makes people that no matter what life is worth living just to make the world a better place than you found it.
Happy 8 years of CR everyone, I love you all and I hope there’s just as many more to come!
I was watching random movies today and came across the Avengers first film and just realized that Ashley Johnson is the waitress in the end of the movie. How the hell did I never notice this before.
I always liked the Fjord throwing his sword in the lava.
Agreed on possible C2 bias. “Fix him! Fix him!” & Kerrek’s letter to Keyleth from C1. ‘You lied.” From C3. The end of C1 ep115 .
I love the last line of C1 so much. Such a perfect ending
Personally,. I disagree. I think C2 was setup to create and enhance these character moments. As shown by the fact that theres a dozen more C2 moments that could absolutely make this list. I mean, how on earth did the life and death of spurt not make this list, or the bright queen, or avantikas judgement, fluffernutter, or fjords sword. C2 was built to create those moments
@@JKSSubstandard of course you could be right but in my opinion C1 has equally iconic moments in number and impact. From the beginning these nerdy ass voice actors knew how to tell stories, say yes to each other, and immerse themselves in Matt’s world.
Fix him should have been on there. And Kerrek’s letter is one of my favorites of all time because of how much both Kiki and Marisha needed it at the time. Not to mention Patrick’s incredible writing. Breaking can be making. In that context it was so powerful.
@@jasonmkc7797couldn’t agree more. C1 made me weep and roll with laughter and scream with frustration. C2 was good but IMO, C1 shook me in a way C2 never did.
7:11 even after all these years…. This still breaks me. The look between Liam and Sam… there’s so much said with so little words. I would have put this at number 2. The cupcake definitely deserves number 1. She literally won D&D that night. Gah. All of these were so good. What a fun trip down memory lane. Thank you Luna and all the Critters who made this list happen. It’s a lovely little gift.
My favourite is in Dalen Closet with Scanlan wedding gift for Vex. Oh and just all of the Search for Grog
The counterspell scene with Sam & Liam's reactions is my #1 it’s so beautiful and gut punching tragic at the same time. Such an iconic moment of a wonderful friendship!
It's a one-shot, but horse stacking from Elden Ring. I've never laughed so hard in my life.

The Cupcake moment was the most legendary CR moment of all time for so many reasons, more than I care to list here, but I like some of the subtle things you might miss, like the moment where Sam sitting next to her sees her pull up Modify Memory, which leads to him telling the others to back off when they start to get worried in-character. And then Liam nodding before she names the spell, as he was probably the only one (not counting Sam of course) who figured out what she was planning. Not even Matt or Tallesin, who are SO good about these things, knew what was coming. Laura Bailey won D&D.
Fun video! I'm surprised at a handful of legendary moments that *didn't* make this list, like Scanlan's Banishment counter, Fjord throwing the sword, Grog's double crits on the godling, Nott's backstory, Chutney's betrayal... or really anything from EXU Calamity, if we're being honest, lol. But that's what future videos are for!
Another thing I loved about that scene is Laura didn't forget it. Later on, she sent some more cupcakes to the hag.
Im shocked the final wish isnt top 2 with the cupcake. My friend tried for years to get me to watch but the show seemed boring to me, it was that wish moment that brought me to tears without context
Yep. I started with C2 & had no intention of watching C1, but then my brother showed me the Wish/Counterspell scene & I was like "OK, I'm in."
For me one of the best moments was from C2 when Nott kills the baby manticore. That threw the whole episode and campaign on another level.
A second point would be Notts revelation of how she became a little goblin girl.
And the revel that the Meatman of Marquette was Scalion
I feel like Ashley is also a stand in for us (and Aabria when she's in a game) ❤

As someone who started watching this around episode 20 of Campaign 1, I watched all these moments live. It is heart-warming and well deserved how far they come since then and excited to see what the future holds for them!
All so good, but I wish something would have made it from EXU Calamity. I loved "The Second", Sam's final speech, anything with Bolo, anything with Sam and Abria, simply Brennan saying "fire", anything.
I loved Marisha's callback joke in campaign 3, "Acid" and how slowly it got Sam.
The moment that made me want to watch CR was Nott revealing her backstory
Laudna's reveal of her origin still is one of the moments that resonates the most with me, but those were all great moments.
My favorite bit from C3 is Laudna's "I prostrate myself on a spiky rock" speech.
Omg YES. the whole rock conversation with Ashton had me rolling.
Omg yes the whole scene is basically a skit if they ever animate c3 they won’t have to change anything 😭
One of my favorite moments is from 2x75, where Taliesin is consoling Travis, and gives a speech right up there with his smackdown on Trent. It’s given me hope on numerous occasions.
“Eventually, some day, somebody will pray for a miracle, pray for something to save them, to whatever gods are nearby, and that prayer will be answered because you’ll show up. That’s how it works. That’s what a champion is.”
Last episode of C2 with Cad rolling that INSANE divine intervention is a top 10 for me. But these are great as well

Liam is such a genius of sad beauty. That one shot was a love letter to his friends, so vulnerable and appreciative and loving, and it was so inspiring to watch. May we all know friendship like the CR cast, and may we all be able to appreciate it and express it as well as Liam.
Some moments from C1 that are worth a mention. the killing blow on Kevdak with Grog & Vex's poke ball; Pike's Divine Intervention during the Vorugal fight and Sarenrae's fist coming down from the sky to punch Vorugal; and Grog holding Scanlan's lifeless body just saying "Fix Him" that one gets me every time.
My whole fascination with Critical Role has been the player's reactions.
I love seeing these players during powerful or intimate exchanges with each other and when Matt guides them through these immersive and incredible pieces of storytelling.
Thanks for sharing some of these marvelous moments and memories.

I like Scanlon's counter spell when vecna tries to banish pike or grog. It completely surprised Matt and everyone else.
THIS - I was looking to see if anyone else posted it. This would be near my top I think because It did surprise so many people.
Keyfish, poor Matt is just like "I just rolled and killed my wife" I felt so bad for Matt.
It isn't really "a moment" but a fairly long scene that comes to mind as one of my favorites. It just gave me so much joy and made me really appreciate the creative exuberance of Matt Mercer. I'm referring to the restaurant scene in "A Taste of Tal'Dorei". Matt was just over the top fun during this whole scene and the whole group was obviously riding along having a great time.
One thing I always thought of with the cupcake moment is that Matt gave her a freebie with it when he could’ve done something to try and shut it down, Laura only mentions that the cupcake is laced with the dust after the hag eats it, and had he known that ahead of time then she probably would’ve had to roll a deception check to convince the hag to eat it, so he would’ve been fully in his right to ask her to do that retroactively, but he let her have it
Favourite moments for me are when Vex aka Laura threatens Grog aka Travis about if he loses the broom it is great especially how Ashley tries to protect her friend.
Basically any Vex moment where she is obsessed with brooms and flying especially when they lose the carpet and the other her the screams from the other room

Whenever marisha hits liam in any game its so funny as you can see liam having a ptsd moment when marisha says im not that unaware 😂

I would have added two scenes from campaign one: Vax and Grog drugging Scanlan into falling in love with Percy (leading to Vex's "I will cut you!"), and the broom incident that made Travis fear for his life from the wrath of Laura. Also, I would have added Nott's backstory reveal.

I am surprised not more have mentioned it. For a character that was as much comic relief as anything else (outside of combat) that moment gets me in the feels every time.
A good list. For me the Black Powder Merchant would have to be on the listl Also the Character Introductions of the Darrington Brigade One Shot.

Yes! Victor’s reveal was top notch. I LOVE how they all snap to attention when they hear that first “yEs?” through the door.
I don't know where I would put it but I absolutely love Kiki's Feeblemind on Raishaun. Marisha's reaction was priceless!
One of the moments I can never forget is when Percy and Keyleth had that debate of when a city "falls".
That was so good. I really miss the Kiki Percy dynamic. They’re friendship was so good because they were so different and really valued their differences.
When scanlan has his meltdown moment - he totally took me in. I seriously thought he was RL pissed and I was freaking out.
Molly’s death feels like its missing, absolutely brutal scene.

Uuuhhh how about Arkhan pulling the rug out from under everyone and stealing Vecna's Hand?!
I think Joe himself said WotC made that moment canon in their realms.
I also want to add "Is she your favorite" to this because wow that was a punch to the gut.
When joe completes his grand plan at the end of C1 blew my mind. He wasn't a regular but he pulled it off!
That was epic, true. That whole scene actually and the one before it with Sam's counter to the banishment.
I'd honestly have to say either the final fight with lucien or Molly's death. I find them to be iconic because they changed the whole party. Without Molly's death we would have never gotten to see the absolute cinnamon roll of cad and probably never gotten fjords turn to the wild mother. And in the lucien fight we see the power of love actually working to beat a bbeg. The reveal that Molly was helping, then rewatching it. Chefs kiss. Perfecto.
The dust of deliciousness clip is so good, but its even better within the context of the whole episode after everyone had gone in and tried to deal with the hag. Nott was ready to restart the war between the dynasty and the empire and Beau was literally going to sacrifice herself to end the curse, the stakes were all really heavy, then Jester just strolls in and tricks her. It was amazing.

- Grog and Scanlan search for the Lord of the Quadroads (E103, about 25 min. segment)
- Jester shares the craziest thing she's ever seen (strong bug, C2E38 02:00:00)
I can think of one more moment that would fit as well - it's the sort of last episode of C1, with the wedding at "Dalen's Closet" I think that's the name of it (it was made as a part of a stretch goal for the kickstarter for the animated series). But the final wedding scene in that episode is one that will leave you balling after having seen the rest of C1 and is definitely a top tier moment in all of CR. I won't spoil any of it by saying anything about it, just everyone who's watched C1 needs to see that episode as well.
Hiiiii! I have a rather unusual list and I won't bother trying to think of ten because paring it down wood be so difficult. But I do have a couple.
1. "I am going to tell you the story of how I murdered my mother and father. "
2.cupcake (of COURSE!!!!)
3. "I counterspell it."
"At what level?"
"...9"
4. "You love her ' and you're killing her!!!"
5. "Your eyes open for the first time. "
6. "I cast feeblemind" ( all the way through the resurrection ceremony in the next episode)
7. "It's okay. You killed one of us. Everyone ready? We're going to kill her together. "
Arkhan yeeting off with the hand of Vecna should definitely have been on the list.
I was happy to witness such an amazing moment during their 8th year annivesary stream.
Love those moments where Matt just calmly throws out bits of an old character's backstory into the new campaign. Just like these little moments of you are my dear friends and I love you. Only it's the guy who grog accidentally made a lord,. Or Kiki's mom after all these years.
Just shows how much heart he has. Also it shows that there are all sorts of things moving around despite the players being ignorant of them just waiting to be discovered
Come on, you've got to have the arrival of the Chroma Conclave and the destruction of Emon.
Hi Luboffin. For me, Grog Strongjaw dropping from the pokeball to kill Kevdak. That is an epic and iconic moment. I would put the top 4 as Laura's Blueberry Muffin, Grog's Pokeball, Sam's Counterspell and Vecna's Hand (which I think was also not mentioned).
Cad's mic drop is so iconic! If you do a round two and looking for some more Cad wisom to put in the poll there's that amazing "moving to green beans" speech he gives to Caleb and Fjord over fish and chips while the girls get their magical tattoos.
And one I think is criminally underrated from around the time Fjord ditches the Sword of Fathoms and accepts the Wildmother - E75 specifically. Caduceus talks to Fjord about what championing a god means and how someday, someone will pray to whatever god that will listenfor a miracle to save them. And it will be Fjord that's there to do it. And that *that* will be enough. Got me right in the feels that one did
Love these clips, one of the fantastic thing that I feel never gets mentioned enough, during the cupcake scene, after the role has happened and has been successful, Matt hangs for just a moment after describing the effects of the spell, and Laura sets him up perfectly with what Jester does and says that allows Matt to continue such a great scene.
One of the scenes that i i can never forget is pike and grog sitting in a whitestone bar drinking after scanlan had left, and them just acting being drunk and how they miss him, that shit always hits so hard
The battle of the Goliaths between Grog and his uncle was amazing... also the Katzenprinz monologue from Liam was a very high moment of good theatre and storytelling.
Good list! The dust of deliciousness bit is what got me into CR in the first place. Iconic!
Exandria always talk about the hubris of the wizard and the things they brought down into the world, but they never knew about a certain Voice of the Tempest who, instead of turning into bird when falling from a cliff, CHOOSES to turn into a gold fish 😂
YES! Ah, this was a treat. And it's so true, Travis is absolutely a stand-in for the audience-but I feel like he and Ashley share that spot. Sometimes I rewatch things just to focus in on each of their reactions.
I definitely agree. For exciting moments, Travis definitely takes it with his contagious hype, but for dramatic moments, nothing beats Ashley and her enthralled expressions. I rewatched "You lied" so often - or rather I rewatched Ashley watch "You lied" so often.

Where Sam rolls and denies the banishing of Grog against Vecna and after his defeat, the stealing of his hand (IIRC, mind's blanking at the moment) It was just such an outstanding bit of RP and SO much luck to have it work out like it did it's worth being on the list.
The most relatable thing to me is how Ashley just *palms* Liam’s head
Numbers 10 and 9 back to back is just perfect!
Two of the best funny scenarios for me is "Scanlan Love Potion" and when Jester saves the group with Polymorph twice as the turtle. And I can't believe that the scene of of the group hanging on the Sun Tree there.
When Vax'ildan made his reappearnce, I like how everyone was flipping out and Liam couldn't get a word out cause he was in shock. He said in 4-sided dive on how Ludinus knew Vax would appear to save Keylith. And he explained that they knew from when they attacked Keylith before which is when Orym lost his husband. I would suggest watching the entire hag scene back and pay close attention to Marisha, while yes Laura's play was epic, had that not happened/worked Beau would have been gone. You can see Marisha going through it in her own head and had decided to take the deal that was given Beau. Like she is on the verge of crying that whole time and Matt actually ignores/misses(not sure which it is hard to tell) Marisha stating that beau goes and knocks on the door again. There was a lot going on. I think it speaks volumes to the kind of thought and the effect a good game can have on its players. The simple fact that Marisha was full on ready to give up Beau and say good by to that character in that moment is also epic in its own right.
Oh man I forgot about that. It was so heartbreaking watching her go through that. I freakin love the woman.
One of my favorite moments of c1 was at the end of 113... They are about to reach the top of the Titan and they found three figures in their way. That moment is amazing to watch for their reactions.

Addition: I think the reason Sam is so calm in the Cupcake incident is because he and Laura had been talking, trying to figure out who had the Dust. She he knew she had a plan. Maybe not exactly what it was, but he knew she had one. Though, Sam might have had an inkling, as Scanlan used Modify Memory back in Campaign 1.
My all time favorite moment is Keyelth saying "Call me child ONE MORE GODDAMN TIME!"

I would argue the Chroma Conclave reveal was pretty iconic. It sure shook all of us to the core. And for those of us that started with C1, that’s a hard one to top.
This reminds me: In C1, Scanlan mentioned not knowing who his father was? I so expected the gang to find out, or use the headhunter that they had indebted to Vox Machina (originally came for Taryon). It would have shown the party cared about him, and helped rebuild rapport? Or, for Scanlan himself to investigate that mystery in his time away.
Also Talesin's facial expressions at the end of the cupcake scene were priceless and confused.
Not part of the mainstream, but Liam in Ashley's and Talesin's oneshots was amazing. I won't say more,. Worthy mentions otherwise.
I think one of my favorite guest member moments has to be Arkhan cutting his hand off and stealing vecnas and then teleporting away.... jaw was on the floor at that moment
I think to truly do Critical Role justice, you would have to do a top 10 from each campaign. C3 can have a top 5, since we can assume we are at least half way through.
C2 for me had way more memorable moments. Caleb's "I cast Wall of Fire" is vivid, cause I think it was the first time I actually did a proper freak-out while watching. Up until that point I had been noncommittal on who was my favourite character, but at that point it was decided.
Did moment 3 (Caleb's Gift) include the whole tower tour during your livestream? Cause that was like an hour of just Liam talking, and describing all the rooms, lol. I think I remember Matt saying something like, "That was the easiest hour I've ever had to DM".
